Managing the Downtime
Date of Scene: 05 June 2018
Location: Xavier's School, Westchester, New York
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Speed, Hellion, Emma Frost

Speed has posed:
Girded for the social battlefield that is high school. Tommy has carefully crafted his casual appearance, to how his green button down is rumpled, and the folds in his jeans, he still looks presentable, but it has just enough 'I don't care' about it to be cool. Even in down time he's careful about these things. It was a survival skill, one he carried with him from mutant juvie, where the stakes were so much higher.

The rec room is quiet and Tommy's staked out the couch with all five foot eight inches of his lanky frame stretched out over the cushions, one hand behind his head, and one white Jordan clad foot tapping restlessly. One of the other kids left a playlist of Andrea Jackson music vids running on the TV but he's too much in his own head to really pay attention.

Hellion has posed:
Julian came floating by, hovering above the ground and into the Rec Room. "Yo, Tommy!" He says, offering a fistbump. "What's shakin'?" He asks, slipping down into the couch. His cobalt eyes take a look at the TV, almost immediately making a disgusted face and 'reaching' for the remote to change to something else. More channel surfing than anything else.

Speed has posed:
Tommy sees Julian coming and twists into a sitting position to surrender half the couch to Julian. "Hey," he greets bumping fists. "Oh yeah, some of the girls were watching that," he says about the TV. "Change the channel," he says invites as he rubs at his hair mussed by laying down on the sofa. As he does, he glances around the room, it's empty for the moment, "So, got to tell you something crazy," he says in conspiratorial tones. Damn all this sounded nuts when you said it out lout to people who weren't at the fateful picnic. "You know, Magneto?" he asks, like anyone with an X-Gene didn't. "Um, turns out he's my grandfather."

Hellion has posed:
Julian leaves the channel on the Gotham Knights game, it's just background noise after all. That was before Speed got to spilling the beans. His eyes go wide, nothing on his side of the family was cool other than his parents being rich flatscans. "No...fuckin' way! Magneto!?" Only the second person Julian ever really idolized. "Dude, that's badass!"

Emma Frost has posed:
It's true Emma Frost wanted to speak to her boys - she was collectively thinking of them that way, or beginning to at least - but it was also true that she was very intereseted in this conversation they were having. Which meant that for now she was hovering outside the rec room, hidden from view, listening to them speak. And trying very hard not to smirk to herself as the idol worshipping of Magneto began.

Speed has posed:
"Right?!" Tommy says, he'd dealt with the crazy and the wtf of the news he was glad someone else was actually pumped about it. "Totally crazy, I will spare you the details right now because ho-lee-shit, are they nuts, but Cliff Notes version, my flatscan parents aren't my parents, my real mom is complicated and my dad, fuck, I don't even know who that is, but the point is, Magneto is my grandfather and he totally wants me to come to Genosha. You totally need to come bro, it'll be awesome. I'd have mentioned earlier, but crap, I figured you might just think I went nuts or something, but it's true, it's all true." He seems as stunned as anyone about that fact.

Hellion has posed:
The telekinetic still looks a bit stunned, he's usually the one sporting 'Magneto Was Right' shirts around campus. Thumbing his nose at the milktoast teachers around here.

"Hmm, Genosha...I bet it's nice. Well, of course it would be, I bet you get to stay in his...White House? Palace? Mansion? Shit, it doesn't matter, you get to stay in it!" The teen leans back, looking up at the ceiling. "I mean, it does sound nuts, but really...our science teacher is a blue...cat, ape thing guy." Real eloquent there, Julian.

"So what's next for summer? You stayin' around here, before Genosha?"

Speed has posed:
Tommy would be right there with Julian with the Magneto was right t-shirts, but given he was at Xavier's as a charity case, he didn't want to push buttons. Though once he has an idea of what exactly his new family situation entails, he suspected that would change. "Yeah, sticking around, don't have anywhere else to go, probably going to do some of the college courses next year too," he says with a frown, he hadn't thought much about college until he learned his brother was going to Columbia. "How about you? Sticking around, going home? And yeah, /we'll/ be staying at the palace in Genosha, c'mon, not, not going to hook my buddy up."

Hellion has posed:
"Nah, I, my folks kinda just sent me away. I haven't seen them in two years." Julian looks a bit, meh about the situation. "I just tend to raise hell around wherever I'm at, Metropolis was great for that by the way."

The Hellion had smiled when Tommy mentioned getting the hook up. "That would be awesome, man!" He was super stoked about that idea specifically, going around and checking out the mutant haven he's seen about on the ads and such.

Emma Frost has posed:
AGain there's that blutter of a smile across Emma's lips. Amusement. Given her own relationship with Magneto, she found the boys' hero worship more than a little bit amusing, and something of quaint. She lets this line of inquiry go a while longer, not *quite* ready to interrupt. And who knows, perhaps she'll be given the perfect opening - something useful to draw them into line and to her cause without her lifting a finger.

Speed has posed:
Tommy grins at the mention of Metropolis. "Haven't been there since the Invasion," he says. "But seemed like a fun place to hang," he says. "But you should totally hang out here, then go wherever, not like there's much that can stop us."

The bit about Genosha earns a big grin from Tommy, "Yeah, saw the ads too, was thinking of visiting before I found out, but now, all the more reason to go. Wonder what it's like? I mean, being the a majority somewhere."

Hellion has posed:
"Yeah, cruise around Metropolis, Genosha, maybe take in some of the beach...wait, does Genosha have a beach!? That's what I'm talkin' about, Sun, sand, and...views."

The telekinetic is all smiles now, all of these plans, he wonders if Emma would let him go for that. Not that his parents would really care as long as he's not in Beverly Hills.

Speed has posed:
"Sounds like a plan," Tommy says with a grin, imagining it. "And yeah of course Genosha has beaches, it's an island, it's got to, right?"

What did Tommy know? Despite his powers he'd rarely strayed from the Tri-State area.

"Anyhow, should be great even if doesn't have beaches, it's going to have mutants and girls, and girl mutants, so, hey, can't really complain.," he continues with a grin.

Emma Frost has posed:
It's unclear how long she's been standing there, but there Emma is, replying to Tommy, "There are beaches, though they may not be what you're thinking of. Certainly not Carribeann quality. There's a sheltered bay, as well as the matter that Genosha is an island. However, I'm certain your grandfather will aquaint you with things properly when the time comes."

She nods to Julian.

"Actually, I'm glad I caught you boys together."

Emma steps inside and closes the door behind her.

Hellion has posed:
"Yeah, but isn't it around like, Africa? I think? So it's not like going to the Virgin Islands or something like that." Julian responds, right before Emma walks in, and he pipes down.

She mentions wanting to have brought the two together, and he glances to Tommy, then back to Emma. "Figures you'd know about it already." He says with a wry smile, only to stifle to allow his mentor to speak.

Speed has posed:
Tommy nods, "Yeah, it is," he says of the island locale. "Still going to be warm and whatever."

Emma's arrival is met with a stiffening of Tommy's spine.

"Ms. Frost," he says turning to face the teacher. "You heard, huh?" he says about the family tie to Magneto. He takes in what she has to say about Genosha though. "And you're right, I'm sure he'll get me up to speed."

The closing of the doors, and Emma's words catch his attention.

"Oh? What'd you want to talk about."

Emma Frost has posed:
"Well, amongst other things," Emma begins, "How the two of you are settling in and getting along. Though from what I can tell that second question may be moot. Still. Any problems? Things I should be aware of?"

"And yes, Julian, I am well aware of who Tommy is. You may be surprised to know that his grandfather and I go way back."

Hellion has posed:
Julian gives a smile, before he shrugs. "Not much really. We just have the lions share of awesome around here." He offers, holding his hands behind his head and leaning back. The boy seemed to have been fitting in just fine around here.

Speed has posed:
Tommy smirks, "Yeah, that's pretty much it," he says in agreemernt with Julian. "Jules and I are pretty good buds, I'd say."

Tommy considers the idea of Emma and Magneto knowing each and ultimately, it's surprising but not shocking he didn't have a lot of time with his grandfather yet, but what he'd had suggested he'd be the sort Ms. Frost would associate with. "A little bit," he allows. "But I could imagine you two would have things to talk about." Oh god what if one of those things were him. The thought shows on his face pretty clearly. "I mean if you're friends, or whatever." He could see it going the other way too.

Emma Frost has posed:
It's like she can read Tommy's mind, "Oh, we have many things we talk about.. Tommy." She lets it hang like that, allowing him to draw whatever conclusions he may wish to about them.

"And I'm glad to see you boys getting along. Though I wouldn't get quite so comfortable as that, Julian. You may be finding yourself at ease here, but remember, there is a goal. I brought you here to learn all you could about your abilities, and if at any time I find you are squandering that opportunity, we will have words, yes?"

Her tones suggest he might not like any conversation of that sort, were she to have to have it with him.

"However, on to more important things. I wanted to speak to you two about a small matter I've been thinking about. Regarding both your abilities, and your futures."

Hellion has posed:
Julian rights himself, sitting up straight and paying all attention. "Yes Ms, Frost."

The telekinetic has indeed been working hard on his abilities, not squandering a moment to learn from Jean Grey. Once the matter is brought up, Julian's interest is piqued. He keeps giving her his undivided attention.

Speed has posed:
Tommy blinks as Emma's comment is just so on the nose. "Good to know," he murmurs but in his mind he's turning over the hows of it and even offers a ~Can you hear me?~ in his thoughts.

Like Julian, when the idea of their futures is brought up, his interest is piqued. His head turns his way, and the usually agitated teen's eyes are focued on Emma.

Emma Frost has posed:
You don't have to be a mind reader (even though she is) to know what's crossing Tommy's mind.

"Of course I can hear you, Tommy. I wouldn't be who I am if I couldn't, now would I."

She says it like Tommy has any idea of who or what she really is. Even Julian likely doesn't know the entire scope of his mentor's abilities.

"I've been looking for appropriate young mutants to forge forward as the face of mutantkind. I find myself intrigued by the notion that you might fit the bill."

Hellion has posed:
Julian looks to Tommy, a little surprised. "Have you never done that before?" He's had entire conversations with Emma without speaking a word. But indeed, he knew she was one of the most powerful telepaths in the world, and that he hasn't seen every bit of what she can do. Mental powers have a way of staying hidden from plain sight.

Julian had had a conversation like this before, and per her instructions, he's been working on how to truly lead. He looks a bit proud as she mentions the two of them may fit the bill.

Speed has posed:
Tommy does the thing he bets most people do when they learn they've been speaking to a telepath, think of all the things he really hoped she didn't hear. To his credit Tommy is actually able to stop part way through and make himself focus on the subject at hand. It was a skill he picked up trying to stay focused on the slow ass conversations snails had with each other. Still was plenty of stuff to pick up before then.

"No, never," Tommy says. "Didn't know what her powers were before now."

It wasn't something he was just going to ask a teacher here. It was one of those tricky things in mutant society, do you ask the power question?

The mention of them as the face of mutantkind gets even more of his attention.

"Yeah?" Tommy asked, sounding both pleased and suspicious all at once.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Let that be a lesson to you, Tommy - never assume that someone in the room with you isn't a mutant. And always assume that they might be listening in on you." She nods to him. "Yes. I'm a telepath. A very powerful one, as it happens. However, outside this room, and a few cultivated others, that isn't a known fact. Should it become more known, I will know who to come speak to about this, do we understand one another?"

There's a moment's pause while she waits for him to parse that.

"As for the two of you, I've decided I will start with you. I may revise my plans and expand upon them, but for now, you will be the key. We are mutants, and to the world, that is a rather frightening thing. As well it should be."

Hellion has posed:
Julian regards the elder in the room's mentions of the world and Mutants. The notion of being the face of mutantkind was a heavy subject. But with his abilities, there was no much he couldn't do regarding telekinesis. The younger of the two boys nods and waits for more information from Emma.

Speed has posed:
Tommy nods, "Noted," he says about the prospect of telepaths. "And no worries, Ms. Frost I can keep my mouth shut." He means it too. He's seen a lot of things living rough in Mutant Town he's still not talked about.

"You have my word," he says with a sense of finality to it.

Tommy nods considering the rest. "Right," he says of people being terrified. "I'm good with that, better than being the ones who are afraid."

Emma Frost has posed:
"Good," Emma says. Both of Tommy's word, and of the interest of both the boys. "It isn't a simple matter of merely being who and what we are. We must be more. There was a concept once known as noblesse oblige. To whom great things are given, greater things are expected. It was the right of kings to rule, but part of that was the obligation to care for those who were lesser and unable to rule themselves."

She regards each in turn. "Do you understand?"

Speed has posed:
Tommy considers Ms. Frosts words, "Basically that noblesse thing is just a fancy way of saying because we are better we have to be better? People I mean."

He gives that some thought.

"But how, how do we take care of people who fear us? Or is it that we're suppose to look out for our own kind?" he asks.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Both," Emma says quietly, but emphatically. "Our own because they are our own. And the others because they can not be us. Yes. You are called to be better people. Their fear is just an obstacle. It should not be an excuse to do any less than you are worthy of."

Each is considered in turn. "Do you understandd?"

Speed has posed:
Tommy frowns, pulling his feet up on the sofa with him. "Sort of," he says. "I'll admit I'm getting lost on the last point, so what are we worthy of? And how do we get past other's fear to get to that point?" he asks. There's a smile then. "Actually maybe I got lost on a lot of it," he admits somewhat sheepishly.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Well, to begin with, you're worthy of rule. But it's not a light responsibility. If their fear keeps you from doing what is right, then you've failed. Both are tied intrinsically to one another. What you must always remember is that you are not what they fear. They fear what you might be should you forget what you are."
