Date of Scene: 22 June 2018
Location: Gotham City
Synopsis: Miyako pays a visit to the wizard in the phone book.
Cast of Characters: Harry Dresden, Origami

Harry Dresden has posed:
It's mid afternoon in Gotham, and Harry Dresden is enjoying himself, leaning back in the comfortable office chair behind his desk he has a paper back book in one hand, the pages spread damaging the spine as he reads, his boots propped up on the table, an umbrella stand holding both his blasting rod and cane, beside it a hat rack holds his duster. In the corner a small mountain of fur softly snores the Tibetan Mastiff Mouse curled up in on himself in a dog bed.

IT's during one rather loud set of snoring that the wizard speaks. "Mouse... Mouse.." he grabs a dog treat from his desk drawer to toss at the pup. "Mouse, tone it down over there, can't hear above your chainsawing over there." he teases the young dog who just eats his treat and pants happily back at his Wizard..

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore opens the door. It jangles. There are lots of people with ninja-like sneakiness in the city - she isn't one of them. She peeks around a bit, twirling a blank square sheet of paper in her horrifically scarred fingers with practiced ease, and waves in what she hopes is politeness. "..Hello? Sir?" She hrms, completely at a loss as to what the appropriate etiquette for such a situation might be.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden glances up at the ringing of the bell and pulls his feet off the desk and tossing his book down into the drawer he just had opened for dog treats. "Hello! Hi! Come on in." he says clearing his voice and motioning to the pair of chairs infront of his desk, a small end table set between them with pamplets resting on the table sporting such titles as 'Real Witches Don't Float So Good, Magic in the 21st Century, Want To Do Magic? Ask Me How! and Why Witches Don't Sink Any Faster Than Anyone Else - a Wizard's Perspective' are set in neat little stacks. "How can Dresden Investigations help you today?" he asks curiously.

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore bites her lip a bit. "I don't know. Maybe a lot of things. Maybe I can help you. We'll see." She moves over to the chair and sits, looking at the pamphlets in faint bewilderment that they even exist.

She looks up. "First thing? Do you know anything about a building fire at 263rd and Ginger? I felt I should ask, since the building was entirely made out of brick and mortar, before it burned to the ground, and, uhm.. the fire chief wanted me to ask around."

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden's eyes go dead his face going slack as he speaks. "Saw it in the paper, already had Chief Macgillycuddy from the thirty-two Ohh-One call me about it, I happened to be with Lieutenant Karrin Murphy of the GCPD working on a case at the time, neither she, nor I were anywhere near that building." he says in a flat voice.

Mouse on the other hand has gotten up, the four foot tall at the shoulders Foo Dog shouldering himself against the detective and resting his chin on the surface of the desk, he pants and smiles at the woman across the desk his fluffy tail wagging like an outboard motor..

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore shrugs a little. "Yeah, I know. That's why I didn't ask if you did it. Just if you knew anything about it." She frowns a bit. "Anyway, that's mostly just my excuse to wander in." She idly starts folding and creasing the piece of paper without looking at it.

"I don't really care that much. Mostly I came in because I was sick of getting asked weird questions for today." She pops the paper shape out idly and puts it on the desk. Penciled in black spots start appearing on the side, and the paper cow makes a quiet 'moo' noise before trying to graze on the desktop harmlessly.

"Because I don't really know much about what I am doing, and the only other person I have found to talk to wants me to read books that just weren't making sense to me." She sighs in frustration.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden visibly relaxes at the words spoken leaning back in his chair his eyebrow quirking as he listens. Then the paper cow lets out a little 'moo' that has Mouse's ears perking up and his head tilting to the side at the new sound, his nose snuffling at the paper and snorting at it sending it blowing back an inch and tipping over.

"Uhhh, I see.." he says as he looks at the still moving cow. "Other than Origamancy, what other skills or tricks have you devloped?" he asks curiously reaching out with his left hand to hover over the little paper cow a small thrum of his power reaching out to probe at the magics in the paper..

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore uhs, crinkling her nose and sniffing a little as the smell of the diagnostic spell reaches her nose. "Pretty much just a lot of ways to do things with paper." The cow rights itself and moos again, then goes back to trying to graze on the desk.

"I make paper flowers that do things, too, if that counts?" She looks a little bit awkward at not knowing any of the terminology, forseeing a long night of trying to remember words to look up on Google. "And I know a lot about paper that I didn't study."

She watches you examine the mindless, autonomous construct, trying to follow what you are doing, and sniffs a bit. "What are you looking at?"

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden shrugs "Depending on how strong your talent is you can generally hone it to have a sense about magic, I'm just feeling the energy around the paper that you put into it." he explains pulling his hand back from the paper to look back up at the young woman. "There's no real one way to learn magic I've come to find, I've run into minor, and major talents, helpped a few get a handle on their talent, met others that already knew what they were doing." he explains "Now, I know you found someone who's helping you and he's having you read books, but generally those books are from wizards that wrote them hundreds of years ago. Take this one read it and see if it helps, it's a book that was written in the last hundred years by a wizard that's still living and breathing." he says opening up another drawer to pull out a book. 'Elemental Magic By Ebenezar McCoy'. "I want it back, but don't feel like you have to rush to read it." he says handing the book over. Within it's pages is a simple nuts and bolts approach to magic, written in a rather secular and stripped down matter with no hyperbole, opinion, philosphy, or religion thrown in the mix.

"Magic, the way I do it is a matter of moving energy around, I picture the elements of the spell in question in my head give it a nonsensical word and then let my power flow through the word." he explains "Flickum Bickus" he says as all the lamps in the office suddenly light with a small flame..

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore ohs and considers the book. "Is the paper going to argue with the text? That's really distracting. It's like listening to two people having an argument. I'm used to listening to the page, not the ink, but the people writing were usually doing it the other way."

She reaches without looking and there is another sheet of paper in her fingers. She puts her hands on the desk and starts folding. The paper makes its own creases before she even makes the movement to make them. She tears a piece and the edge comes out straight like it had been cut with a paper cutter. She straightens and it starts to resemble a starlike paper flower of folded edges. She is obviously taking extra time to do it, going through the motions slowly. She lightly sets the flower on the desk, where it starts sprouting paper roots and changing a bit, growing slowly to lamp size. The flower turns and hangs, and starts glowing softly.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden listens and nods. "Seems like your talent might be giving you a bit of arcane dyslexia. Have you ever thought about getting a friend to read it to you? You ever had issues reading something off a piece of plastic or metal?" he asks before he smiles motioning to the 'sun flower'. "That's quite good.' he comments as the dog decides to make his way around to the other side of the table sitting down and offering a hand to shake. "The Woolley Doggosaurus there's Mouse.. He was a lot smaller when I first got him." the man says with a grin. "You seem to have a pretty good handle on your talent as is. What's this mentor trying to teach you? What are you wanting to learn?" he asks curiously

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore frowns. "She isn't really.. trying to teach me much.. She offered to help me find books to read, but I have tried that. And I haven't ever seen anything magic written on plastic or metal, so? I wouldn't know. Mostly I just kind of feel like I don't know what I am or who I am, and when I have tried finding anybody, they tell me to read magic books and.. I can't read magic books. I don't know anybody who would read to me. I just have firefighters, and they're really nice, but if things get weird, sometimes they're a little bit creeped out, too." She shakes your hand quietly.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden nods and sighs a bit sadly, thinking about the issue at hand he starts to stand up. "You hungry? I skipped lunch and I'm hungry." he comments "There's a great little steak place down the way, our kind tend to frequent there and if I'm not forgetting I might have a line on something that might be able to help you." he explains as mouse moves over to grab a leash from where it's been tossed in a corner the dog moving over to look at Miyako his head tilted and one paw up in a slight 'begging' position..

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore takes the paw. "It's good to meet you too, Mouse." She gives the paw a soft squeeze, wincing a bit, and shakes gently, then takes some prescription cream out of her bag and rubs it into her hands. "A bit, yes. We have a 'kind'? Why doesn't anybody ever tell me things like this? Or am I too visible?" She hmphs. "My first spell was in front of a TV camera. I didn't plan it that way. I wasn't expecting it to do anything."

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden grins. "Cause who ever you're talking to might not know about Mac's either." he says grabbing the book he pulled out and slipping it into the pocket of his duster as he slips it on the wizard wearing it even in the middle of the Gotham summer. Soon the staff, and a short rod of oak join him the latter hanging from a loop inside his duster. "It's just a couple of blocks away." he explains holding the door open as a gentleman should.

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore follows quietly. "Thank you." She doesn't have any magical items to bring. Presumably because she can't really make them in a lasting form. She keeps rubbing the cream into her hands, wiggling and stretching her fingers in obvious discomfort and slipping out the door.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden walks along the sidewalk, taking Mouse's leash from Miyako as he walks. "How'ed you burn your hands if you don't mind me asking?" his 'walking stick' tap tap tapping on the concrete as he walks at a leisurely yet ground eating pace with his long lanky legs. Soon he's darting to the side to go down a stairwell the pub set in the basement of an office building.

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore ohs.. "I had to push a big piece of burning wood off of a firefighter who was trying to help me. It seemed like the thing to do at the moment, and everything else was burning too.." She shivers a little bit and hugs herself. A little bit broken on that point. She follows quietly. "He wouldn't.. He wouldn't wake up, and I helped him. Later. I mean." She frowns a bit.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden nods as he slips in nodding to the man at the table "Two lemonades Mac." he calls out before turning to look back at the girl. "You like steak? Mac makes the best steak sandwiches and home fries around." he says pulling out a chair for Miyako before he himself sits down, Mouse being a well behaved pooch goes over to a corner where there's a pair of dog dishes seeming set out for him. "You might try working with thicker and thicker pieces of paper.. maybe eventually you'ed be able to manipulate unprocessed wood?" he suggests

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore nods.. "Steak is good, please." She sits and wiggles her fingers a little, listening and looking around the place quietly, giving an experimental sniff. "Maybe? I don't know how it works. Paper talks to me. Some things are.. less papery than other things. I'm not sure how to explain that. I don't even know what that would be CALLED." She pulls out a sheet of paper and hands it over. It's ordinary origami paper, nice quality but nonetheless mass produced mundane stuff.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden nods looking it over, Mac at the bar setting out two glasses of lemonade, the ice made from the same lemonade. "Drinks are up, I'll be back." he says getting up and making his way towards the bar before swirving to make a detour over to a near by booth. He talks to a short squat man for a little bit before it looks like he pulls out the book and then takes something from the man. Soon he's returning with the lemonade setting them down and pulling out something thin and bone white, rolled up like a little scroll. "See how that feels, and if you can read it." he says as he hands over what appears to be a super thin piece of leather about four by six inches in size. 'We The people of the United States in order to form...' the leather continues on with neat hand written script of the constitution. "how's that treat ya?"

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore touches the paper and goes a bit blank, caressing the edge of the scroll carefully. "I am a sheet of vellum, of the more traditional sort. The skin of a calf. Scraped, stretched, wetted, soaked in lime, soaked, dried, finished with pumice, cut and shipped.. Like they do with good copies of a Torah. Freshly made in the past year. I am guessing this is important for some magic workings. I was stored ready for inking.. The ink went onto me all at once, like it was always there. It's a copy of a document. A small form of it."

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden sighs and grimaces.. "So it's not just paper that you do that with.." he sighs reaching into his pocket and pulling out several small stone disks that have norse runes on them he holds one out to Miyako "Touch this, tell me what it tells you, if anything." he says getting up and walking back up to the bar when the steak sandwiches and fries are ready. Looking over at the short broad man he shakes his head as a no go for his initial idea. Quietly he slips back t the table setting the plates down.

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore hmms, and handles the rune in slight befuddlement. "It looks like a symbol on a rock? I don't know what the symbol means." She looks back up at you and shrugs a little. "Do I have to learn how to read these now?" She looks a bit concerned and sips some of the lemonade.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden chuckles and shakes his head "no, you don't, they're for a project I'm working on, this side means fire, and the other means torch." he explains taking the stone and putting it back in his pocket as he goes to start eating, drinking some of his lemonade. "I think the best thing to do right now would be to get your gift under control, right now you can't turn it off and it's going to hinder you in doing normal every day things like reading a book, or filling out paperwork." he explains

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore ohs. "..Yeah, a bit. I can read a bit, but when it starts getting harder.. like, about magical things.. the paper starts talking about its thoughts about it. And then sometimes it can get really hard to deal with.

She picks up a fry and starts munching. "Usually I just read things on my phone. It's easier. But the things I see online about magic don't seem like they make sense against what I already know."

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden hmm's "That's something.." he comments "I hear you can read all sorts of books and other things on those cellphones now adays. And that they come with cameras." he adds thoughtfully. "You could take a picture of the page and read from that maybe?" he suggests..

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore uhs, tilting her head. "Maybe? I mean, that's always a pain with the little screen and all. I hadn't tried that? Are they going to.. you know.. wiggle around or anything?" She slices some steak off and munches, thinking, and looks around a little more. "How did you learn any of this?"

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden's face turns a bit somber.. "Well, My mom had the gift, but my dad was just a stage magician, a few years apart from each other they passed away, and I was adopted by my first master. We had a bit of a falling out when I was a teen, and I happend across another wizard willing to teach me, I lived with him in Hogs Hollow Missouri till I was an adult then I moved out here to Gotham." he explains a bit. "The second man to teach me about magic was the one who wrote that book.

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore ohs. Quietly munches some more fries. "What was the first thing you DID? And how did you know?" She bites her lip and thinks a bit. She knows her answer but yours? "Or was it just something your mom taught you to expect? I mean.. I'm adopted." She frowns a bit.

Harry Dresden has posed:
"She died giving birth to me actually, and the first time I ever did magic, "I was ten, and the school was doing a spring olympics, and I really /really/ /REALLY/ wanted to do good on the long jump, so I ran for all I was worth, gave a little war cry and jumpped. Wound up beating the state record for highschoolers by about ten feet." he says with a grin.. "The next day I was adopted by the man who became my first mentor." he explains his tone becoming more subdued towards the end of his monolog

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore ohs. She thinks about that a bit. "After the fire, Ryan was in a coma. And I was in the hospital because of my hands. I wanted to help, so I.. started folding cranes. I don't know why."

She finishes up the fries. "There's this.. thing. You fold a thousand cranes and it makes a wish come true. I didn't think it worked, but some reporter thought it was cute." She sips some lemonade.

"It worked. All the cranes flew away, and he got better. People have been bugging me ever since."

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden nods and grimaces at that.. "Sorry to hear that kiddo." he says in commiseration.. "I'll tell you what, you come by my office on fridays after five, we'll work on some meditation techniques and some other mental exercises see if we can dial back your ability so you can read." he says simply finishing his sandwich and potatos and downing the last of his lemonade. "Sound like a plan?" he asks.

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore nods. "Okay. That would help.." She smiles some. "Thank you. Is there anything I can do to help though? I don't want to just be a burden." She munches the last of the steak and hmms.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden pffts "nah, but if you ever run across anything on the spooky side of town give me a call and I'll help you out. Just let my answering service know that Joanie Loves Chachi and they'll call me right away with any message you leave." he says pulling out a buisness card and handing it over. "I should get muttly over there home though it's getting late in the day." he explains with a smile

Origami has posed:
Miyako Moore nods, "Okay. I think I am going back to the fire station. Maybe I am going to get a call for something soon, I don't know."
