The New Mutants: A Personal Identity.
Date of Scene: 29 June 2018
Location: Xavier's School
Synopsis: The kids get a lesson on what it means to be a team, and band together defending themselves to a very pleased Emma.
Cast of Characters: Emma Frost, Elixir, Rage, Twitch, Hellion

Emma Frost has posed:
As promised, Emma holds another meeting for the New Mutants. And just like last time, there is pizza. Only this time there are less ingredients, and the pizzas are set out to be individual sized. Drinks are available. Emma, herself, is sitting comfortably, and ushers everyone in.

"Go on. Make yourselves dinner. And then we'll see who did their homework from out last little get together."

Elixir has posed:
<Homework?> Josh mouths to Tyler. He sets about making himself a ham and pineapple pizza.

"Hope Laura makes it, bet she's never got to do this before," he comments.

Rage has posed:
Heading into the kitchen is Andrea, wearing a pair of snug jeans and a baggy Xavier's sweater that drops off a shoulder. She takes a seat at the table, then selects a plain cheese pizza for herself. She glances down at her phone at times in her hand, chewing on her bottom lip in a worried tone.

Twitch has posed:
Tyler's there a little bit before the meeting is scheduled to begin, just to be on the safe side. He starts making his own pie, making sure that it's covered with meat and cheese before setting the oven to preheat. Looking back to Josh he nods his head, <Don't worry.> Then he glances around, "Yeah, it would be nice if she came by. I like Laura. One part of me wants to help take care of her and another part wants to fight Reavers with her." As he waits for the over to get hot he asks the teacher, "Would you like us to make you a pizza? Pepperoni, easy on the sauce?"

Emma Frost has posed:
There's a glimmer of a smile from Emmma as Tyler asks her about making a pizza.

"Very nice. I wondered. And yes, please."

Her gaze drifts from Tyler over to Josh. "Ah, I see you decided to join us. Welcome. You're a little behind on the homework, so you are given a by this time. The others, however, did have an assignment."

She eyeballs the members of the team who have shown up. "Which was, if we all recall, to find out something about our teammates that nobody else knows. I look forward to finding out what you learned."

Hellion has posed:
Julian makes himself a pepperoni and mushroom pizza himself. Of course it was made with a bit of telekinetic flair. "Andrea got into charity after a friend tried to commit suicide." He chimes in, his pizza ready for baking.

Rage has posed:
Andrea gives another glance down at her phone for a few moments, turning it about in her fingers. "I learned that Hellion is a huge fan of eighties new wave music and that Tyler really likes lasagne. Laura has claws that come out of her feet and that she has never been shopping before. Boris is able to follow after cars even while underground because he can tell the difference between vibrations of vehicles from the surface even in deep traffic." She glances at her phone again for a moment. "I haven't seen Tommy in awhile so I haven't had a chance to ask him. I do know that his brother is not really a mutant but he is kinda a sorcerer who's powers come from spells he casts."

Twitch has posed:
"Alright!" Tyler tells Emma before he goes about making a pizza the way he remembers her liking it. When the oven beeps to show that it's pre-heated he starts loading pizzas into it.

"I learned a bunch of stuff about the other guys, Ms Frost. Andrea has a fear of drowning. Hellion used to be one of your students even before you guys moved to Xavier's. Boris is a blacksmith. And Tommy's really strong in addition to being super fast."

Elixir has posed:
Josh looks over at Andrea as she checks her phone again. "Everything okay?" he asks her quietly.

He keeps working on his pizza as the others say what they learned.

Emma Frost has posed:
The tidbits get amused looks and lifted brow from Emma in turns. "Very interesting." She says it like she hasn't access to much of those bits already. Or couldn't glean them were she to care to employ her powers in such a way as to find out. However, that wasn't the point of the lesson...

"I'll have to ask of the others what they learned."

There's a particular grin for Julian. "Hellion, hrm?"

Then quickly as the grin comes, it's brushed away.

"Of course, here comes the actual objective of the lesson.." They really should start to suspect by now that Emma does nothing haphazardly and without ulterior motive. If they haven't realized it yet, they soon will. "What did we all learn through this lesson. Or, more to the point, why did I ask you do do this?"

Rage has posed:
Andrea gives another glance at her phone and stubs her foot against the stool. "Not really. I got a hit on the suicide awareness line last night about three a.m. of a young girl who is trapped in a room and a lot of bad people are outside of it. I don't think they know where she's at but she's terrified. I got an address and a name." She says a bit antsy as she rocks on the stool. ".. and I think we should check it out." At the bit about the lesson, she lets out a sigh. "To see how comfortable we are in giving out our deepest secrets to each other as a way of showing that we trust one another?" She hazards a guess distractedly.

Hellion has posed:
"So she doesn't have to look into our minds later for them." Julian offers with a devilish smile. He cracks open a Soder Cola while the others converse and chime in.

Twitch has posed:
"I think it was so we could get an idea of what each of us is willing to share with their teammates. How much people are willing to tell about themselves when you give them an excuse to," Tyler offers his suggestion of what they were supposed to learn.

Then he's focused on Andrea, a very concerned look on his face. "Yeah, I think we should probably look into that. Has she called the cops yet?"

Tyler glances over at Julian, "Wait, 'look into our minds'?" His eyes widen in surprise for a moment before he shrugs, "I guess it figures. Is that a requirement to work here?"

Elixir has posed:
"Yeah, that seems kind of urgent. I mean, 3 am last night... If nobody called the cops, that's like 18 hours ago," Josh says, talk of lessons put out of his mind. "She might have been found by now, or taken off."

Emma Frost has posed:
"Interesting theories," Emma nods. "And thank you Julian for so kindly providing secrets of my own."

Tyler gets a non-apologetic, "It's one of my many talents," Emma informs of looking into people's minds. "However, outside these walls, that is not a known thing."

She's entirely too casual, still sitting and regarding them all. "To begin with, you're all correct in some fashion. And, as expected, you've skirted around the larger issue."

She continues, "Yes. This was much about what your teammates were willing to expose of themselves. As well as what you were willing to expose. However..." And though she remains sitting, there's the absolute sense that she could be pacing the room about them as she imparts this next bit. "This was very much about forming relationships with one another. This was about trust. You see, in order to work as a team, you must first be a team, and part of that is knowing that you can trust one another. Both to give, and to hold, your secrets. Ultimately, your lives."

There's a small chuckle as her attention returns to Tyler. "And no, it is not a requirement to work here. You'll find I much prefer the time honoured method of allowing you to confess your sins all on your own."

"And before you think I've ignored you, Andrea, what makes you think that either *we* should look into this matter, or that you all are ready as a team to do such a thing?"

Rage has posed:
Tapping along the glass of her phone, Andrea furrows her brows. "Well, the cops picked her up it looks like and brought her home last night, so I guess for now she may be okay. I put the Starlight Foundation together to make sure that mutants who are on the verge of suicide or suffering from depression had someone to talk to and receive advice and assurances from that their life has meaning. I only get contacted when there is a high risk mutant involved. She told my hotline that everything she touches makes her head explode and that her friend isn't moving much. She was in distress and afraid she did something terrible. Sounds really young. I also figure if Miss Grey can take the team out to fight Reavers, we should be okay enough to talk to a young girl and let her know that she's not alone and that there are others like her who have been in that same place." She says as her eyes cut to Josh. "And maybe some conversation can help her decide her life is worth living."

Twitch has posed:
"Outside of the team I'm not going to give up anyone's secrets but my own," Tyler says seriously, with an almost proud expression on his face. "I think we're getting pretty close already. I'm not really a team sports kind of guy, but I know most of us are willing to help each other out and to provide someone to listen when you need it."

At the remark about sins Tyler chuckles a little bit, "I'm going to try not sinning for a while. See if that works out for me."

Andrea's part of the conversation gets the young man to quiet down and just listen, nodding faintly at the words.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma nods to Tyler. But it's really Andrea she focuses her attention on.

"Ah, now see, had I asked /why/ you should attempt to rescue the young lady in question, you would have provided me with a fine answer. I asked why you thought /we/ should be the ones, and what made you think you were ready for such a task."

There's a pause, where she relents slightly, "I'll allow that if Ms. Grey took you out, that there may be some validity to being ready. But it still does not answer why you think you are ready."

To the group, she continues, "All of you, actually. Seeing as we are fast shaping up to thinking of ourselves as a team."

Elixir has posed:
Josh looks confused by the question. "Because we're a pack. I mean, secrets aside, we spend nearly all our time together. Hell, we've already had to rely on each other for our lives, and for things we're not even talking about here. Real secrets. We turn to each, and we back each other up. That's more than I can say for my senior year basketball team," Josh says a little impatiently. "And we're ready because we've lived this, and enough other shit that we have something to offer."

Hellion has posed:
Hellion gives a look to Andrea, and Emma. "Well, in a team we have to trust each other to do what needs to get done. To get home safe, to achieve the objective. We have to trust the leader as well to make the hard decisions."

Rage has posed:
Giving a nod of her head as she listens to Josh and Julian, Andrea says, "And this school was built to help young mutants. A young mutant needs help. She may kill herself, or hurt someone by accident. If you don't think we're ready, then one of the faculty should go to at least make sure she's okay and talk to her. When they call my hotline, they're reaching out in desperation for help. For me, this means something on a personal level. I can't let this happen again." She says as her voice trails off.

Twitch has posed:
"We're able to relate to the girl. We're her age and we're all mutants so we've all gone through something strange as hell. Plus, if there's a threat to her safety then we can handle it better than anybody else that's here now, aside from you and Miss Grey," Tyler is quick to start explaining. "I think we're ready because we've already started watching each other's backs, these guys know more about me than my parents I think."

He looks over at Andrea, then back to Emma, "We should definitely go. Or send somebody to check in on her."

Emma Frost has posed:
"Weak response, Andrea," Emma says with a shrug. "A valid reason to step in, but avoiding answering the question."

"Which bring me to you, young man," Emma levels her gaze upon Josh. "Points for passion and enthusiasm. You make a partial case for being a team. Yes. You do things together. Perhaps even everything. A pack, as you say."

"However," Emma says, rising, now, from her seat. "As nice as all that is, I'm not asking you why you're appropriate to deal with the girl. I'm asking what makes you think you're a team, and further, what makes you think you're ready to step out as one. We've partial marks to our Healer there. A smattering of silver stars to the lot of you for stepping up one and all and banding together in expressing reasons for helping the girl."

Tyler is considered and gets a small noise of what might be approval. It's a shortlived thing, before Emma is back to her considered, and somewhat cool regards of the gathered members.

"Fine. You wish to form this team. And if I'm not mistaken, you think yourselves ready to champion the cause of young mutants. Good. Slightly further along than I expected at this point, but your skills are still lacking. We will work on that."

She regards each in turn before speaking again. "This team of yours. As you know, I am your staff advisor. As such, I am responsible for your actions, and your advancement. However, as it has been pointed out, a team has a leader. I think it only appropriate that you chose amongst yourselves someone to be your peer leader. And, I think, given the discussion of this evening, that perhaps we may all wish to discuss what it is we imagine of this team."

There's a slight glimmer, now, of what might be amusement from the woman. "I think, quite ahead of what I expected, you might be ready to begin deciding amongst yourselves what your uniform will look like. Also, I do believe the pizzas are beginning to burn."

Elixir has posed:
Josh crosses his arms as Emma speaks, feeling like his people are under attack and wanting to band together and push back. Right up until she brings up the double whammy of the team needing a leader and the pizzas burning. He jumps to his feet with a curse and pops the oven open. "Someone grab the oven mitts," he says, turning his face away from the heat.

"So does this mean we're going after the girl?" Josh asks.

Rage has posed:
Sliding out of her chair, Andrea stuffs her phone into her pocket and head to grab the oven mitts out of the drawer. She slips them on, then starts to remove the pizzas that are cooked.

Twitch has posed:
"They still look edible," Tyler declares as he scans the pies as Andrea gets them down one at a time.

"I hope the team can start going out and taking on threats to people, especially to mutants. Helping the police arrest people they're not suited to going after, like the Reavers. Addressing situations where we might be able to help folks like the girl on the phone, where other people might not be able to deal with her like we can, as people her age going through similar circumstances." Tyler nods a couple of times. "And I like dark colors for a uniform. We might need to sneak up on people and bright colors makes that difficult."

Elixir has posed:
"And space mushrooms, don't forget mushrooms," Josh interjects with a smile as he holds the oven open.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma returns to her seat, smiling while her back is turned to the students. Whatever face she might present to the them, she's quite pleased at this very moment.

Rage has posed:
"We're going to get uniforms?" Andrea says with a furrow of her brow in thought. "Will they tear apart when I use my powers? That may get expensive."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma laughs softly, "Actually, Andrea, you were the inspiration for the idea. Seeing as you insist on being so hard upon your clothing, and have yet to garner the control and experience to keep yourself in human form until you wish to shift, yes. The uniforms will be able to withstand most of the rigors of your abilities. Much as the X-Men themselves."

She shrugs. "After all, it would hardly do for my reputation to have any of you wandering about half naked while we're on a rescue mission."

Hellion has posed:
"I personally like red and black." Hellion chimes in, floating over his well done pizza. "I'll have to think about who to be leader though." He comments, looking at those present.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Consider that your next assignment, then. A team leader, and a uniform. Now, eat your pizzas before they get cold." And with that, Emma takes her leave. Some things you don't need your faculty advisor for.
