Ragnarok pt. 13: Aftermath
Date of Scene: 11 July 2018
Location: Asgardian Ship on the Atlantic Ocean
Synopsis: The first rescue teams arrive on site to the downed Frigga's Mercy and start to the hard work.
Cast of Characters: Thor, Darcy Lewis, Melinda May, Batman, Lara Croft, Superman

Thor has posed:
Only an hour has passed since the Asgardian ship Frigga's Mercy fell from the sky. The Man of Tomorrow had done everything he could in his power, had braced himself and made sure to lessen the impact as much as he could and for the most part... it was enough. But even as the sun was setting distantly, the ocean's surface was marred by the scattered parts and pieces of the old space ship. The rear section still floated, still remained mostly intact. But spread across the last five miles in a line leading up to the vessel there were metal plates and gear spread everywhere.
Out on the surface of the now powerless ship, there were many people standing upon the deck. Already Asgardians were doing what they could to move supplies from the lower decks to the upper, to shore up the hull breaches and try and make sure the remnants of the ship are not going to fall under the waves. It was all a time of hurried repair that was embarked upon by the stoic people from beyond.
No sign of Thor had been seen since that last lightning blast that had powered the ship's armor array, but his is not the only name that's been listed as missing on the roster of survivors. Several had been lost in space when the ship initially vented, others might have been lost in the ocean. But for now at least some hint of peace has reached the people as they try to recover.

Darcy Lewis has posed:
Darcy was in her office when news broke. It had her Facebook first, but she quickly turned to her SHIELD computer to access news feeds and watched with baited breath as heros the world over moved to try to keep the ship from impacting too harshly. Half way through, her green eyes went wide, and she flew into activity. Supplies and after a look at the screen, rescue ships.

The ticker read that the US had sent out a rescue ship, Darcy noted, and so she called May, voice a tight sort of frantic to let her know about the crash and to let her know she had started organizing relief supplies, but right now, they were going to need ...something!

And Darcy was absolutely not freaking out that Thor's name was on the MIA list. Totally calm about it. O.O!!!

Melinda May has posed:
The moment news came down about the crash landed ship, May pulled a burner phone that has only one number in its memory and sends a text to a specific email account.

Keneng: Rescue efforts for crash underway. Anyone willing to lend a pair of hands be ready at (coordinates) if you need transport. Thirty minutes.

Then she takes the phone apart and snaps its sim card in half before dropping the pieces into multiple 'burn box' drops as she heads for the quinjet bays, already sending out orders via her commlink to prep her jet (yes, hers) and get it loaded with supplies and a water rescue team. She's not expecting a fight, she's expecting to be helping pull people out of the remaining wreckage. SHIELD's heavy lifter is already en route, but it's a considerably slower bird.

Now, about an hour after the ship went down, May glances back at the 'jet's complement of personnel and supplies. "ETA two minutes."

Batman has posed:
Batman replies as he flies out on the wing, "I have my own ride. Thank you agent May. ETA 60 seconds." He begins feeding the path of the ship into the nav computer and examining footage from several satilites tasked with tracking and watching the ship. He had been watching since it arrived of course but this was one of the many contingencies he planned for. Sorting through the debris for PEOPLE he focused on the people. Lives were lives and he was going to save any he could. Those he could find would be salvaged by grapple from underneath the wing.

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara is already at the jet by the time May arrives because... well, she'd already been on the landing field returning from over seas. She had her gear with her in a duffle bag, it wasn't on and she was dressed in casual civilian clothing but she was more than prepared to put it on while in flight. So when May arrives on the field she's moving to join her at her side. "I got your message." Lara says to the other woman. "I'm here to help. However I can." Her duffle is held at her side as she walks toward the jet as well now, lifting her freen hand up to remove her sunglasses from over her eyes.

Superman has posed:
Kal remained with the ship after it touched down in the ocean, and immediately set to work helping the survivors. The landing had been rough and it was miracle that the ship had not disintegrated; they had Thor's last minute charging of the armour plates to thank for that. Even so, there had been gaping holes in the hull where plating ripped apart during the impact. The Asgardians identified keeping the hulk afloat as long as possible as a priority, to give the world time to bring rescue to bear.

So as the others are approaching, Kal is working with the builders, pulling plating from the top of the ship, putting them in place over holes below the water line and welding them in place with eye lasers.

Thor has posed:
When their ships came on station and saw the steady debris trail that led up to that floating crippled ship, the sun had almost slipped beneath the horizon and cast the ocean in long shadows, leaving the flicker of illumination to be seen from afar. Small hand held torches and larger stationary ones were in position atop the damaged ship as many of the people from below had taken up a place on the hull itself. Stockpile of supplies could be seen as the heroes' jets fly above and past.
Far below a handful of Asgardians in heavy armor lift a gauntlet and wave to the SHIELD jet as it passes, though the Bat jet is likely not seen by them.
To Superman, Bjarke steps forwards, "It seems your people are come." He gestures with a nod, "You have our thanks, Superman. Were it not for you all would be lost." The old ship's captain grimaces as he leans down to give a hand with a large side of armor plating, his own strength not anywhere near as strong as Kal's, but enough to hold up his end at the least.
The Batman, however, will likely espy those survivors. Asgardians are a tough breed to perish as some have said, and infrared would assuredly pick the out against the cool water. For a moment a grim silhouette of a shark could be seen circling and making a darting pass at one of those lost overboard when the ship fell... but only for the aged Asgardian woman to /punch/ it square in the nose and send it to flight.

Batman has posed:
Batman is likely better at finding those in the water than most unless their name is Aquaman or Namor; super senses or no, since he also knows HOW to look better than anyone alive. As he finds them, he extends the loop for them to grab on to and flies them one or two at a time toward the ship; setting them gently down and heading out for more as soon as they are safely landed. If unable to reach, he will hover the ship and move out to lend a hand himself and bring them into the cock pit.

Melinda May has posed:
May's quinjet accompanied another larger jet of a different configuration, decidedly odd-looking in the air, but its strange, manta ray-like appearance becomes much more logical when it settles onto the water a safe distance away and gently floats closer -- a stable floating platform big enough for May's quinjet to land on. As soon as it's settled, the back loading ramp lowers and May stands. "First order of business, get everyone off of that other ship and over here." She's not air lifting them back and forth because this quinjet's VTOL engines are as obnoxious about displacing air as a helicopter.

The water support team disembarks promptly and begin working to create a bridge to help the people on the Asgardian ship cross over to the SHIELD vehicle and May taps at her comm, setting it to a different frequency that was likely pre-arranged. "May to Bat. Mobile platform is deployed. Drop offs can come here now, and there should still be room to land if you're VTOL capable."

Superman has posed:
Kal looks in the direction of the approaching ships and watches the SHIELD jet pass over head.

"No thanks is needed," he says to the old captain, working with him to bring the armour plate forward along the ship's spine. "I'm just sorry we couldn't do more. Have you heard from Thor yet?"

He waits for the answer, then together he and Bjarke swing the armour plate off the forward port quarter and into the water. Kal dives in after it to put it into place.

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara Croft is an experienced diver and as such she's prepped for the water rescue operation so by the time that the SHIELD personnel were arriving and disembark she was already in full gear with tank and mask on. She awaits her turn with the bridge team unloading first and then she moves to disembark and drop down into the water after testing her comm-check with another SHIELD agent.

Croft drops into the water with a splash, legs first and she's vanished under the water level. Her high-powered beamlight comes on and she begins to angle her body so she can swim beneath the surface and scan the wreckage, anything she might be able to help with... including boarding the Asgard ship to get people out if necessary.

Batman has posed:
Batman says, "Understood Agent May. I have located three more." He finds two younger asgardians and a burly fellow that is holding on to an Mead Barrel, brought all the way from Asgard itself. He refuses to let go of it and holds on to it with one hand while dangling from the loop while Batman brings the kids into the cockpit. He would have carried them in but with their speed and strength it is no problem for them to do so. He returns to drop them off, letting them land on the platform and immediately heading out not staying for pleasantries. There is a job to do."

Thor has posed:
The ones that Batman recovered seemed to be in reasonable shape for the most part, though a youth in what seems to be a lighter variation of the royal guard armor was tolerating a twisted limb that caused him much discomfort. But he rejected any offer of help, his reply being primarily, "I am fine, there are others in greater need." Yet the Dark Knight was able to deposit them to the ship, the black jet's presence drawing looks of awe and curiousity as the refugees lifted their hands to wave, albeit a touch nervously.
On the ship itself, Bjarke shakes his head. "There are those who intend to seek him, but..." He huffs and puffs a little as he sets the armor down for the Man of Steel to take it down into the water. As Superman puts it into place, Bjarke falls silent while the man is out of view, but then when Kal pops back up he finishes, "He would want us to make sure the ship is safe first."
Beneath the waves, Lara will espy the damage the plummet through the atmosphere must have done to the outer hull. There are places where plates had broken and tore free, several large outward explosive areas where something burst free, and a rather peculiar looking burn silhouette roughly in the shape of a man at one piece of armor that hangs free connected just by two beams. But that is it for now, or at least so it may seem. Nothing else though she might catch distantly, underneath... a faint clinking like something striking metal upon metal in the superstructure. Could be just damage, the pressure of the ocean pushing debris against itself... or it could be something else.
When May lands, she does get the attention of the guardsmen who remain, easily discerned by their armor and the spears in hand though many are missing equipment or armor plates. One rushes towards her, "We have wounded, how many may your ship hold?" He looks across the way towards the landing platform, then back towards the agent of SHIELD.

Melinda May has posed:
May looks at the guardsmen, bowing to them slightly in acknowledgement of their apparent status. "This ship, likely only about a hundred or so. But there are other ships -- much larger ones designed to carry entire cities' worth of people and supplies -- on their way. The most severely injured can be brought here for assistance. How many people do you have aboard?" She was concentrating on landing her 'jet on the platform so didn't do more than give the Frigga's Mercy more than a quick glance, but from the number of people she saw, she suspects a LOT more than a hundred.

"Lewis, help relay a head count back to Central and ask for more FLP jets, as many as can be spared quickly." Not that there are really that many of them to be had in the first place. They're rather special-purpose planes, and thus aren't usually in high demand.

Darcy Lewis has posed:
May's response was why Darcy loved May so much! Heels traded for the scuffed Doc Martins she kept under her desk, Darcy sat in the back, one knee anxiously bouncing. As the water-rescue teams begin to work, Darcy stands and moves with May, her eyes skimming about the gathered Asgardians. The sheer amount of need of these people upsets, and hearing that there are wounded that need transport, she glances to May.

"Yes, sir," Lewis says acknowledges to May, tablet held in a white-knuckled grasp.

Batman has posed:
Batman finds three women in their mid fourties, building their own boat out of debris from the ship. One wants to stay to finish the boat because she is enjoying it too much and ignores please from the other two to come, but the two that come with Batman point to another near a part of the ship that is sheening in some sort of chemical fire. He launches fire retardant in it when he sees some motion inside.

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara learned a long time ago not to ignore anything if it hits her attention and the sounds of metal tapping metal in an underwater scenario like this could easily mean a survivor is trying to ring their way to the minds of rescuers, so her dive continues... and she can hear over the comms that sharks are in the water so she has her electro-zapper ready should any mouth-and-teeth monsters come at her out of the dark, but her ultimate attention is following those faint metallic reverberations.

"I can hear something." Lara's British flavored voice speaks over the SHIELD comms, a bit 'tinny' through the underwater mic and garbled by the sounds of the bubbles from her breathing. "Might be a survivor." She adds whilst reaching the spot where she thinks the sound came from. Tentatively, the woman who's survive a ship wreck herself, uses the shock baton zapper to tap against the Frigga's hull, to try to respond to the metal sounds.

Thor has posed:
The guardsman's brow furrows as he pulls off his horned helmet and wipes his brow with a forearm, grimacing. "Our complement is three thousand souls, but some were evacuated during the emergency." The Asgardian frowns and looks back to her as he shakes his head, "I do not know, how many we have but we shall give you our worst wounded." That said he gestures to the side, "Harald, bring the wounded."
Harald looks at May, gauging her as if she were no to be trusted, but then he gives a short sharp nod and breaks away to head towards the hole in the surface of the vessel that leads down into the interior, their makeshift stairway supporting his weight as he moves. Bjarke comes over, half-running half-jogging and stops to look at Darcy and her partner in crime. "You are with SHIELD? I have heard tales of your people."
Meanwhile, beneath the vessel, Lara comes upon a bubbled pocket in the infrastructure and she'll see a young Asgardian boy, seemingly ten years of age though with such it is hard to tell. He holds a dagger in his hand and at the first sight of the woman in SCUBA gear he brandishes it warily, eyes mad with fright even though it's clear he's taken a hard hit to the side of his head, the bruise there already a frightful thing.
Outside, with Batman the survivors grudgingly accept aid from Batman, being drawn into his ship when he motions. And as he fires that fire extinguishing round towards the flicker of flames he can see the foam burst into life and start to cause those flames to fizzle out.

Superman has posed:
"Then we'll do what he would want," Kal agrees with the captain. He looks out at the rescue operations getting underway and smiles just a bit. "Good people," he says and nods in the direction of the SHIELD craft and Batman's jet. "Yours are in good hands, they'll get them to shore safely," he says. Then he gets back to work making sure the Asgardian ship does not start to sink. Nobody wants to contemplate the ship going down before everyone was off it.

Batman has posed:
Batman moves the ship down to see five more people trapped under a large plasteel container. They wave in greeting as they had been running out of oxygen. Even Asgardians need to breathe. He lovers more ropes but also makes the cock pit very full. He moves the wing at half speed as he moves towards the platform.

Melinda May has posed:
May nods to Darcy then listens to Lara's report. "Acknowledged, Croft." She promptly has two of the water support team switch out from setting up the bridge to get wounded across to suiting up to dive and assist Lara.

Her eyes then catch the man discussing something with someone in red and blue in the water and turns to Darcy again. "Give me your spare comm." How she knows the younger agent always carries a spare in case she fumbles her primary one... that's for her to know and Darcy to worry about.

Bjarke's approach also earns him a brief nod. "Yes. We brought what we could as quickly as possible, and more help will be arriving soon. The larger vessels are slower," she offers almost apologetically. Hush, Lewis.

Lara Croft has posed:
When Lara sees the boy brandishing the knife at her, she makes sure to approach more carefuly and as far back from him as she can. She emerges into the air bubble and slowly reaches up to take her mask / breather off and reveal her face to the child. "Hello." She says to him. "My name is Lara... I'm here to help you." Her voice is kept calm as the water laps around them both in the confined space.

Lara looks up and around to see if there was more access into the ship from here, but she doesn't see any... Her brown eyes go back to the child. "Do you want to get out of here and join the rest of your people? They're up above, waiting... for you."

Lara extends the mask and breather toward him. "Put this on and I can get you to the surface." It would be a bit of a swim for her without a mask/air... but she could do it.

Darcy Lewis has posed:
Much shorter than the Aesir, Darcy looks up at Bjarke, nodding to him.

"I am," is the reply. Not knowing what more to say, the spare comm is given over with out a fuss; too much else to fret over than how May know about hte comm (but it will be fretted over in due time!). She had to pause the last of her orders to Dispatch for those extra ships to do it, but it's right back to coordination of relief efforts. This is a far cry from a pet shop in New Mexico, but done with the same focused dedication. She likes Thor! Whether he knows it not, she's calmed him as Her Own. And she's fiercely protective of what's Hers. As the aesir are Thor's and Thor is Hers, so they are hers. Darcy taking this personally, there's no room for now for jokes.

Be shook, May!

Thor has posed:
Superman is given a short sharp nod by one of the other Asgardians nearby, "If you need to rest take some time, you have done much." Though Bjarke is already off again and speaking to the SHIELD people, the man seems to move constantly about the ship trying to keep tabs on everything despite the demands such attention would cost him.
But then another Asgardian smirks and pipes up to address the one who spoke before, "You do not know to whom you speak, Draldr." She gestures towards Superman, "This is the one known as Superman. A great warrior and tireless in his pursuit of ill doing. If we try to out work him he will work us straight into our graves and still be going long after we have passed." A dull chortle comes from those around.
Below in the pocket of air in the small chamber, the Asgardian child glares wild-eyed at Lara. It is no easy thing to contend with a child who is likely possessed of great strength and currently in the grips of fear. Yet at her approach she is able to get through to him, slowly... very slowly. "Lara. Did your people do this?" He asks as he pushes at a raven lock of hair that gets in his eyes. "Did you hurt us?" He holds up the tip of the dagger even as he takes a step back.
But then she speaks of getting to the surface and he looks warily at the rebreather she holds towards him. "How... do I know I can trust you?"
But then Croft might well hear the double splash of some of the dive team dropping over the side of the SHIELD vessel even as May's behest. She'll have backup soon, likely. But this situation might be... delicate.
Bjarke gives May a single sharp nod, then turns back and gestures for the other guards to hurry up. They quickly move past and start to bring the wounded up through that hole in the ship's hull, carrying the worst injured with makeshift gurneys and trying not to jostle them too much so in passing.

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara shakes her head side to side to the young boy. "I promise you we didn't do it." Did they? She didn't know, but she had to get the kid out of here so she had to tell him what he wanted to hear. "You can trust me because I'm friends with Thor. Look." She takes a moment to reach down to her belt and after a second she pulls up something that the child would definitely recognize... one of Thor's gauntlets. Its shape changes to the wearer's hand and currently its sized to that of her own, its etched with the symbols of the boy's people. "He let me keep this after I helped him rescue his lost weaponry here on Earth..."

She holds the gauntlet out to the boy. "You're welcome to carry this up to the surface with us and hold onto it for me while I swim." When the child reaches out for it she smiles at him and then holds the mask up. "I'm going to slip this on, okay, just breath easily and you'll be fine."

With the mask put onto the child then, Lara started to work up her own breathing, heavy breaths to inflate her lungs... and she'd set off with the boy in tote, his arms around her neck as she looked up into the darkness, maskless and holding her breath, kicking her feet and swimming up for the surface as fast as she can!

Superman has posed:
Kal smiles at Draldr, coming over to shake hands with both him and the woman who spoke up after. He thanks them for their own efforts and reassures them that ships with enough room for all were coming.

He notices Bjarke talking with the SHIELD agents. He drifts over to the ship of what appears to be the lead agent and lands on the deck nearby. "I'm still patching up holes below the waterline, to keep it floating," he explains to May without preamble. "Unless there's something more urgent?"

Kal waves to Batman as the Dark Knight drops off rescuees.

Melinda May has posed:
May starts to offer the small communications unit to Bjarke, but sees Superman approaching. "Nothing more pressing at the moment, I don't think. Though, this might help with coordinating." And she offers him the comm unit.

Hearing the divers splash into the water, she adds, "And we have a team of trained divers along with us in case you need extra pairs of hands under there. I think one might have welding experience, but I can't be sure." She gestures over the rest of the water support team moving to help organize and triage the wounded, though it appears they're already mostly well in hand. They're rechecking mostly to relay the information to the inbound larger vessels so they know what to expect.

The two divers make a quick assessment of the goings on and head for Lara and the boy with lights and secondary breather mouthpiece attached to their own air tanks. They don't know about the boy's fearful reaction to Croft.

Thor has posed:
The youth in Lara's care had quietly sheathed his blade, but as she instructed he listened to her and he gave a steady nod at each sentence. When the time came he seemed loathe to jump in, but with an almost visible reaffirming of his bravery he gives a grunt and leaps in, then moves with her as she guides him through the inky blackness upwards... upwards through the dark ocean, even as a silhouette of a shark swims menacingly closer...
But not close enough to threaten as she'll quickly see the two divers from above making their way towards her. One gets into position to make sure she reaches the surface and as they swim upwards offers his rebreather for her should she need the oxygen.
Bjarke nods towards May as they speak but when Kal comes over he steps to the side to include the man in the red and blue into the conversational circle. "Best to keep this hulk afloat. All else can wait, though medical aid for the injured is best tended to now." He looks towards May, "I will breathe much easier once my people are somewhere safe." He then frowns and looks off into the distance, "Or on land." A scowl flickers over the old Asgardian's features.

Superman has posed:
Kal accepts the re-breather with a smile. "Thank you, agent."

He nods in agreement with the captain, puts the communicator in place and heads back to work moving plating.

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara doesn't have access to her comms withher mask off so the boy is actually the ones hearing the SHIELD comm chatter now, and he can likely hear the divers coming to help talking to them both. Lara's afraid to hand the boy off though, not wanting him to freak out with that mask on for the first time in his lifetime... 'Welcome to earth' needs to be as comfortable an experience as possible, considering his closest thing to home just crashed here.

Lara makes eye contact with the divers coming her way but she looks upward and swims past them, a trail of bubbles slipping out of her nostrils as she goes.

It only takes a moment longer and she's breaking the water's surface with the boy, and thats when she gasps for air... sucking in the sweet oceany oxygen while making toward the bridge and the other rescuers, hoping the kid can see his fellow survivors and know that she was telling the truth about being here to help.

Melinda May has posed:
May nods to the two men. "Then we'll concentrate on helping the injured and keeping your ship afloat. Excuse me." A few quick words are relayed to the water support team, and the two divers who met Lara stay only long enough to see her safely to the surface before they dive again to meet up with Superman. Apparently one of the pair is the certified welder.

May steps over to help Lara and the boy onto the floating platform, apparently not caring at all that they're going to get her clothing wet. No, it's not apparent. It's true. She doesn't care if her clothes get wet. There are FAR more crucial things to worry about right now.

Thor has posed:
The young raven-haired Asgardian in Lara's care breaks the surface and looks around frantically for a moment, twisting to the side as he swims in place. But it only takes the space of several heartbeats for him to espy his crewmates and to see the wounded being ferried off the ship and onto that large floating platform. He spins around to face Lara, eyes brightening with urgent happiness as he murmurs in between waves of salt water washing over them, "Thank you, milady. Thank you!" And with that he turns and tries to swim across the way to the side of the ship and pull himself aboard.
Only for his seeking hand to find May's and with her help he is drawn up onto the deck with her aid. He looks to her and smiles happily, even amongst all this tragedy, vibrant with the miracle of continued life despite all that has befallen him. "Thank you as well, milady." And he breaks off into a run towards Bjarke...
Who seems taken aback, "Kald! What are you doing here and not with your mother?!"
"We were separated, sir." He says quickly, skidding to a halt before the taller man.
"Then go tell her you've been found. She will be fraught with horrid fears."
And as quick as that, one reunion is made. Even as for now the work carries on.
