Synopsis: Tyler drops off a delivery to Shredder during their scheduled meeting, then has a heart to heart with him?
Cast of Characters: Shredder, Twitch

Shredder has posed:
Another day for training. Saki is dressed in his kimono, a pot of tea on the small table that serves as a desk. He sits before it, currently meditating crosslegged, his eyes closed as he waits for Tyler's arrival. Often he is more active, and Tyler has to wait to be admitted, but today, it seems that his schedule was clear prior.

Twitch has posed:
When Tyler is admitted to Oroku's office he performs as he usually does, carefully removing his shoes and placing them neatly on the mat before stepping into the room and approaching Saki to bow politely, "Master." He stands up straight and waits for further instruction, knowing better than to attempt to press the ninja master.

Shredder has posed:
"Gakusei," comes the answer from the master, and a few seconds later he opens his eyes. "Come, sit." He's not been offered such an opportunity normally. Often the training begins with a reminder of the last lessons. Failure to remember any of the lessons are exploited in an introductory spar, and can result in some nasty bruises. But today is quieter. "You are punctual as ever," he comments appreciatively.

Twitch has posed:
As he takes a seat as instructed, Tyler replies, "Yes, master." It takes him a moment of adjustment on the floor before he's seated identically to Saki. "I obtained the sample you requested," he reaches into his pocket to remove the small container, holding it between his thumb and forefinger.

Shredder has posed:
A smile crosses Saki's lips. "Well done, Gakusei," he compliments. "My efforts with you have been rewarded." He reaches out to take the container. "I trust you were not seen."

Twitch has posed:
"Thank you, master," Tyler hands over the container before going back to sitting still, resting his hands on his lap. "I wasn't noticed, master. I simply cleaned up after an accident."

Shredder has posed:
"I see," Saki answers, and he reaches out to take the tea pot. He pours some in both his own bowl, and in Tyler's. They are not the same, Tyler's is a fresh porcelain bowl, a slight off white with images of blowing leaves upon it, while Saki's is black with a silohuette of a mountain. "You are learning well. The art of ninjitsu is not simply about combat, but about silence. A ninja does not allow his presence to be revealed. This does not always mean his physical presence, but his spiritual presence. Your nature and your skills must not be flaunted, but must remain your secret, lest others be able to prepare for you."

Twitch has posed:
Tyler silently watches Saki pour their tea, listening closely to his instructor's words to make sure that he absorbs every part of the lesson. It's much easier to pay attention when your teacher has proven he can kill you. "Yes master." After a moment of thought Tyler speaks again, "Having an enemy that knows my abilities would be a big weakness."

Shredder has posed:
"It would." Saki says, lifting the bowl to drink the tea. "Tell me about where you go to school. You go with Miss Jackson, do you not?" he asks. Clearly, the question has more behind it than the simple surface.

Twitch has posed:
After taking a sip when Saki does, Tyler nods his head slightly, "I do, master." He takes a breath, seeming reluctant to say more on the matter, but he does nonetheless, "I go to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. It's out in West Chester."

Shredder has posed:
"I see. I believe that I had a visit from one of your instructors," he informs Tyler. "A visit I did not anticipate. A woman in her mid twenties, red hair. She seemed young for a teacher of high school students. Do you know who she is?"

Twitch has posed:
It takes Tyler just a second to realize who it is that Saki's talking about. His head inclines slightly in the older man's direction, "Yes master. She's the headmistress, Ms Grey." He says next, "Please don't kill her, master."

Shredder has posed:
Saki arches his brow. "Kill her?" he says with a frown, then laughs slightly. "A feeble attempt, Gakusei." He takes another drink of his tea, and sets it down. "I think we both know that she would not be someone who would die easily. Or do your teachers reveal little of themselves in this school you go to?"

Twitch has posed:
Tyler gulps deep in his throat when Saki laughs. "I have seen some of what she can do, master. That doesn't mean that she's immortal." He looks down for a moment before his courage comes back to him and he returns to looking at his master, "Master, if she visited you and you didn't see it coming then that means you've got an idea of what she's capable of, which means you've already got an advantage."

Shredder has posed:
There's an annoyance that creeps into the master's voice. "Do not be inspecific when I ask you a question," he says with a growl. "Tell me what you know if this Ms. Grey. I do not like such surprises. Or do you fear her more than you fear me?"

Twitch has posed:
When he hears the tone of Saki's voice change Tyler takes a deep breath and his eyes widen slightly, but he nods his head, "You're both more powerful than I am, but I doubt she'll kill me, master. She's a psychic. She can speak into your mind and move things with her thoughts. I've seen her lift a powerful cyborg like it was nothing and threaten to kill him."

Shredder has posed:
The annoyed tone has not yet been dissuaded, Saki's eyes narrowed. He doesn't intensify his posture, but remains steady in his level of threat. "And did she kill him?" he asks. Clearly, he wants to know what level of resolve she has.

Twitch has posed:
"No master, she didn't," Tyler replies, carefully controlling his breathing to make sure that he remains as calm and collected as is possible under the situation. "The cyborg gave in to her demands, or at least told her he would."

Shredder has posed:
Saki nods, seeming placated for the moment. "I see," he says, folding his hands. "This puts you in a complex situation," he observes. "You are someplace where people may be able to read your thoughts. Able to control you physically. It is a high risk location. I believe I have some understanding of this Ms. Grey. I presume that this cyborg was part of a group called the Reavers?" he says it like a question, but it appears rhetorical as he continues. "Ms. Grey feels herself responsible, she feels that your school is something of a family for those who, like you, have special talents. Have I deduced correctly?"

Twitch has posed:
"Yes master. I'm surprised she hasn't just read my mind," Tyler replies. "You're right. The cyborg was Donald Pierce, the leader of the Reavers." The young man may not have gotten that it's rhetorical, or perhaps he wanted to share additional knowledge. At the last question, Tyler takes a deep breath, closes his eyes and nods, "Yes master." When his eyes open there's no tears in them, but the young man is definitely not happy about the conclusion that Saki has come to.

Shredder has posed:
Saki tilts his head. "You feel they are a family to you," he adds, sensing the displeasure. He stands up, and walks to the back of the room, sliding the paper door open. "I want you to see something," he says. He disappears for a few seconds into the room, and returns carrying a scroll. He kneels patiently, this time on the same side of the table as Tyler, and unfolds the scroll. "I do not expect that you read ancient Japanese," he notes. He points to the image of a man with a rice hat and cloak, holding a katana. "Long ago there was a man named Takeshi Tatsuo," he says. "He was the greatest swordsman in all of Japan. His family, his clan, made good use of his skill. As time marched on, the head of his clan came to fear him. He was too powerful." Saki goes into detail of the clan's attempt to kill Takeshi, how it failed, and Takeshi singlehandedly slew a legion of mercenaries sent to kill him. Takeshi went on to lead the clan who betrayed him, killing his own father who had sent the mercenaries to kill him.
"Tell me, Gakusei," Saki says. "Was this a family?"

Twitch has posed:
When Saki gets up to retrieve the scroll Tyler remains patiently where he's at, waiting to see what he'll be shown. When the scroll comes out the young mutant looks closely at it, listening closely to what Oroku has to say. Once the story is finished and the question is asked Tyler remains quiet and thoughtful for a few seconds while he formulates a response, "No master. A family should be loyal to one another."

Shredder has posed:
Shredder frowns as if it displeases him, but he nods. "A family should be loyal. Why do you think this clan, though they were blood, failed to be a family? Why did they allow fear to cloud their loyalty and betray Takeshi?"

Twitch has posed:
"They were afraid that he would use his power to take what belonged to them, master. They didn't trust Takeshi to be loyal," Tyler says after taking a moment to think of his response. "If they'd stayed loyal to him then he may not have killed them and they could have continued to make use of his abilities."

Shredder has posed:
"Yes, Tyler," he says, using his name. It doesn't happen often. "These men failed to understand what many people fail to understand." He raises a finger in emphasis, putting it in front of Tyler's face. "Family is not a given. To allow someone to be your family, it cannot be granted out of mercy, or out of love. Family must be earned." He moves the finger to point back at the scroll. "These men initially gave the honor of family because of blood, because of birthrite. They had not earned one another's trust, so when strife came, that family broke." He points indistinctly at the school. "This school to which you go. They give family. You do not know that Ms. Grey does not read your every thought, that she does not simply hold the information to herself so that you will not become aware. They did not earn the right to be your family. You have not yet earned the right to be my family," he adds.
"But! If you prove yourself loyal, if you are faithful to me, and show your perserverance, know this. You will no longer fear that I can kill you, but you will know that I am as your father. I will protect you, and I will not betray you, because I will have earned the right of family with you, and you will have earned the right of family with me."

Twitch has posed:
The master's words his Tyler like a brick. The young man sits back slightly and blinks a few times. His eyes fall upon the scroll and he seems to study it, or at least look at the pictures on it, before he looks back at Saki. "I think I understand, master. Loyalty is a two way street. If something is just given instead of being earned then it's not going to be as strong." His brows furrow slightly, "How do I know if I can trust someone enough to call them family?"

Shredder has posed:
Saki is quiet for a moment before answering. "When you are exposed, when your greatest rage, fear, desire, is all known, and that person stands by your side even against the world and hell itself, you will know that person is your family." In a remarkably patronly gesture, he puts his hand on Tyler's shoulder. "One day, Tyler, I hope not to call you Gakusei, but to call you family."

Twitch has posed:
Tyler listens quietly as Saki speaks. What the older man has to say makes sense. There's a slow nod and a look at the hand placed on his shoulder. Tyler's breathing increases in speed slightly for a couple of breaths when he realizes what his master is saying to him. "Thank you, master." He swallows deep in his throat, "I hope to be worthy of that."
