Cast of Characters: Souvenir, Iceman

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir clicks open the door to the teacher's lounge. Shenanigans might have been involved. That's an issue for later though. She sticks her head in, grins and waves. "Hiya! Hey! Weird but totally reasonable request?" She steps in, carrying a cardboard box in one arm, then stops and stands kind of at attention.

Iceman has posed:
Bobby is relaxing after his morning math class. Though the topic should have been pretty straightforward....seriously it was only trigonometry after all. However, he had to explain the difference of sine and cosine at least four times. He's enjoying a cup of hot cocoa when the door opens.
"I must have come to the wrong room..." he muses to himself with a smile forming, "I could have sworn I came into the Teacher's Lounge and not the 'All Students-Come-Here-For-Weird-Requests-Room.'" After glancing up at the glass panel on the door with the words Teacher's Lounge on it, he shakes his head, "Nope, right room."
After his teasing, he holds his cup in one hand and looks at Erika, "You're in luck, you caught me in a Weird Request mood. What can I help you with?" he asks eyeing the box.

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir steps up and puts the box on the table, opening it. It's all but overflowing with silicone wristbands of various colors. "I need a bunch of souvenirs in case of emergencies and stuff! So I can be useful. But I don't know who to ask for what. I need some help figuring out who to loan these to."

She tilts her head a bit, "I am hoping you know what kind of things the rest of the teachers know how to do other than teaching classes, because I might need to know that too sometime."

Iceman has posed:
Bobby's curiosity gets the better of him and he stands up to peer into the box. He reaches in and shuffles the wristbands around, wondering what they say. "Souvenirs? I'm not sure I understand what you're looking for. These look like party favors." He holds one up that's bright blue.
When you mention the other teachers, his expression turns somewhat suspicious "What are you getting at?"

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir holds up a finger to pace her explanation. "Okay, so I am a psychometrist. I read objects and get skills. So like, I can walk into the kitchen and grab the apron the head cook wears, and I put it on and I can cook amazeballs awesome food for awhile. Or I can put on one of Laura's socks and woah.. I know kung fu. Stuff like that."

She frowns a bit. "My friends here keep getting jumped by, like, cyborgs and stuff, and I want to go home and I worry that I will run into like.. Monsters or crazies or something. So I want some skills that are useful."

Iceman has posed:
The whole conversation begins to make sense and Bobby nods as he finally understands. "What's your name? I don't think I've had you in class yet. I'm Bobby Drake, Math Teacher extraordinaire...well the only one actually."

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir grins, "I'm Erika. I didn't take math for the summer because I needed more PE and anyways, I could probably already be a bookkeeper anyways. And I just got here a couple of weeks ago. I'm still meeting people."

She adds, "Bunch of morning runs and stuff. But like, Tyler is awesome that he knows how to fight? But I might need a bunch of stuff other than how to choke somebody out. Whoever it is that was draining blood from people my friends knew didn't choke. So like I need a variety. Um." She waggles a gloved hand. "That and I'm still figuring other stuff out."

Iceman has posed:
The concern this young woman shows for her friends is encouraging and it brings a smile to Bobby's lips. "Well, Erika. First, let me see you have the right attitude already about wanting to help your friends. Not everyone here always has that desire..." His voice falters a moment and he appears to drift off into a memory for a brief moment. Returning just as quickly to the conversation, his face looks more serious than it did a moment ago.
"Even if knew what all the other teachers here could do, it's not my place to give out all their secrets...nor, I believe, is it yours to ask. Me? You can ask all you want." He holds out his hand and it is instantly covered in frost and ice. "But it took a long time to master this. I know you say you can touch an item and then get someone's abilities or skills...but that doesn't mean you have the experience to use them. I mean if you start cooking like a chef, that's great, you need to cook us dinner sometime! But the worst you'll do if you don't get it right is burn some cornbread. If you start trying to use someone else's gifts without their life experiences or perspectives, it could end very badly. Despite your good intentions."

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir sighs a bit. "Yeah, I know! I don't want their secrets. I just want their knowledge when things are bad. I mean, I'm just some kid? But I'm a kid that can put on a sock from a nurse and like, set up a whole... Triage thing stabilizing people if there's an emergency. I mean, I do a good job, I even know how to clean stuff up after, and I don't even know why I do the stuff I do. But it's like, a good job."

She frowns some. "Why is everyone like 'Don't do anything', anyways? What did YOU do to learn how to do what you do?"

Iceman has posed:
The girl has some good points, but Bobby's been around long enough to know you can't always control someone else's abilities. He's seen it firsthand with members of his own team. "You're not just some kid. You're here, so you're gifted," he says with that knowing smile. "I never said don't do anything. I just said you can't go around expecting people to just turn over all their skills and knowledge to you. Sure, I could see an emergency where I would totally let you learn accounting from me." That gets another laugh going, "But you can't do it in such a cavalier, general way. You mentioned problems where you're going. What kind of problems? Maybe someone should go with you?"

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir thinks. "... Maybe? But I don't know that it's anything people can just swing in and fix. Just like general danger. And I freak out because I feel like I have to get somebody else to save me. I want to be able to save myself. And like, my friends know how to fight, and that's great and all but I don't think I can fix everything by punching it in the face. That's why I am looking for, you know. A variety."

Iceman has posed:
"I understand what you're saying. Have you thought about taking some martial arts classes yourself? That way you can protect yourself at all times and not just when you're wearing their item?" An idea seems to strike him and he puts one of the wristbands back, "How long does the knowledge stay with you? Just as long as you're wearing the item or does it linger on after that?"

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir thinks. "It's like.. A power up. I have to keep touching the souvenir, and anyways after a couple of hours my head gets too foggy and it all goes away, and then I have to get the souvenir reloaded. That's why I have a whole box."

She thinks a second. "And Tyler already teaching me how to fight, but he doesn't know how to like, climb over a fence, or hide, or stitch up a bullet wound, or drive a car, or talk to the police, or.. I don't know, find food in the forest or whatever else."

Iceman has posed:
"Well those are all good skills to have...and to *learn*." He pushes the box back towards you, "It's tempting to take the easy way out and get all your learning for free. But life doesn't work that way. Wow, now I do sound like a teacher." He shakes his head and adjusts his tone to one of a caricature of some old stuffy professor."
"With great power comes great responsibility," he starts then shakes his head "No that's not right. Erika, all I can tell you is don't rely on your power to grab the skills you want or feel you need. Use it to motivate yourself to actually learn what you want to. Your ability should be used in emergencies or for the right reasons. If where you're going is that dangerous, I'd recommend talking to some of the others and see if someone can go with you. You might even learn something from them that will stay with you longer than a few hours."

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir heaves a sigh. "I get it. Don't use your powers, just ignore them and don't prepare and maybe they'll go away and I can be a stable again. Whatever, thanks Mr. D."

She grabs the wristbands and stalks out, annoyed.

Iceman has posed:
Bobby's left wondering how his words got twisted so much but then realizes he's dealing with a frustrated, but well meaning student coming to terms with her powers. He makes a note to seek her out before she leaves and hopefully talk to her again about responsible use of powers and not 'no use' of powers. He does take a sip of his hot cocoa, but sighs as it's gotten cold by now.
