Attack of the Arsenal
Date of Scene: 17 September 2018
Location: Unknown
Synopsis: The Arsenal was trying to steal radioactive goo from the Harrison Industrial Warehouse just north of the Hunt's Point Wastewater Treatment Plant. When the Arsenal passed through the main building of the treatment plant, he punctured a methane storage tank. It caused a serious squence of explosions that rocked the whole treatment plant. On hand to help slow down the robot was Blackout who teleported into the area to investigate. The Wasp was nearby at a fashion expo and she saved the day by frying the electronics within the robot's brain core. The robot was taken to Avengers Mansion for study. The radioactive goo was recovered. The treatment plant will be repaired.
Cast of Characters: Blackout, Wasp (van Dyne)

Blackout has posed:
It's 2am and the fashion expo is finally winding down. So many designers, so many amazing styles, so much to see, do and network with. It all took place in the New York Expo Center, located in Hunts Point just north of the city ( http://tinyurl.com/y7dnazgk ).

Janet Van Dyne is found standing with collegues in the parking area near to her super duper fast sports car. Others have their vehicles parked in the general area. They stand around doing last minute networking just before heading out when an explosion to the east interrupts the moment. The explosion is significant. Such that debris is cast in many directions. Such debris impacts with the parking lot taking out a few vehicles. The debris is metal; piping, sheets, nuts/bolts/rivets, etc. Other debris rains down in the general area. It all comes from the Hunt's Point Wastewater Treatment plant. So the smell is soon to follow as the night wind travels from east to west (inbound).

The people JVD stands with, all 6 of them, look in the general direction of the explosion. And when the debris starts falling, they scream and start to scatter.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
Jan's Lotus is missed, at least by the initial debris-fall, but it's falling freely. Like everyone else, she looks in the direction of the explosion. But unlike everyone else, she's not screaming and running. Reaching into her clutch, she pulls out a miniature version of her Wasp costume.

Janet shrinks down quickly, getting lost in the designer dress. And before it flutters to the ground she flies out in-costume. Just an inch-long winged bug in black and yellow. Heading towards Hunt's Point.

Blackout has posed:
The night sky is vastly illuminated by red flames cast up from the ground. The overcast skies reflect the red and as the glowing red smoke plumes into the air, the overcast and smoke blends together into a twisted horrific image of potential death and destruction. Or at least a really bad smell for weeks.

Zipping toward Hunt's Point, the Wasp can see the wreckage of the main building of the treatment plant. There's normally nothing inside a location like that which is hightly explosive. Unless it was something like methane that had built up over time and was never vented. Then again, that's probably the reason for the explosion. Either mechanical failure or operator error. But really, is it ever so easy, cut and dry? Nope.

Off in the distance, at the nearby fire house, first responders are leaping into action.

Everything north of the main building across Ryawa Ave is decimated. The warehouses have been shattered by the explosion. Cars, trucks, things that were on the streets and in parking areas are rendered into smaller pieces. The fire is hot, even outside of 300 yards.

Just to the south, running across the concrete paths that cross between the water treatment pools, is a very large man. Armored even. He has a few spot fires on his back, as if he was splattered by something flammable. Underneath his left arm he carries a glowing green cyllinder (2ft long, 6in diameter). He's heading south, toward the point and a watercraft that seems to be waiting on him.

Blackout has posed:
The man that runs across the area wears a dark grey armored suit with yellow affectations ( 5643561-img_8167.jpg )

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
Wasp takes it all in as she makes her fly-over. Judging from the amount of debris, the explosion was something fairly low-energy (for an explosive) in large quantity. Methane makes the most sense, given the location. First responders are on the way. Check.

Then she spots the very large, armored man who seems more interested in leaving than putting out the small fires on his back. Coincidence?

Very unlikely.

Wasp dives towards him, gradually increasing in size until she's standing in front of him. And looking him right in the eye. "What's your hurry, handsome?"

Blackout has posed:
The running goliath of a man does not seem like he intends to stop. Instead, he drops his shoulder and charges the Wasp with the intention of trampling the smaller frame of the woman. The mechanical voice comes across the vocal processor of his helmet, "Stand aside!"

Then suddenly, black tendrils wrap around his legs. Gripping both of them, the large villain falls forward and skids the last few yards up to the Wasp's feet.

The tendrils are pitch black, non reflective. They reach back another 50 feet to the arms of a man who seems to project them from his hands. The man is also wearing the same material as the tendrils, completely black. He's very visible because he has significant flame in his background. Otherwise, he'd be almost indistinguishable from any other darkness in the area.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
As the armored, running man lowers his shoulder, Wasp is about to shrink down to the actual size of her namesake. Then the tendrils wrap his legs and he faceplants, skidding the last few yards. Is he out for the count? Janet has fought plenty of big bruisers like this to know better.

Wasp shrinks down and slips quietly into the armor through one of the ear holes in the helmet. "Had your chance, big fella." she murmurs, but it's still loud enough for him to hear it since she's standing at the entrance to his ear canal.

And to emphasize the point, Janet hits him with a bio blast right into the ear. It's not full-strength, but enough to cause a normal human debilitating pain.

Blackout has posed:
The tendrils are snapped by the strong legs of the Arsenal. The villain leaps to his feet. There are several shoulder mounted boxes located on the villain. They pop open and just as Wasp streaks into the villain's ear, tiny missiles are launched from the shoulder boxes. Those 12 missiles all target Blackout who doesn't stand a chance in hell of dodging them. They all impact with the would-be hero and blow him 100 yards backwards into a pool of sludge and wastewater.

Upon entering the ear-canal of the Arsenal, the Wasp intones her intent and then blasts. Suddenly she realizes that she's inside a robot, not a human. The ear-canal terminates as any ear canal would, however, the tympanic membrane is actually silicone. Her blast penetrates it and strikes other electronic parts deeper within.

The Wasp will suddenly feel the centrifugal force of the Arsenal shaking his head. More than just a shake, the head is actually spinning like a top would. As if his head is on a swivel. The Arsenal is trying to spin her out of his head. Either she go deeper to reduce the spin, hold on for dear life, or get flung out. If she goes deeper, there are plenty of other vulnerable parts within.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
A robot? Well this is a surprise. As the head starts spinning, Wasp does indeed go rapidly deeper into its ear canal. If that's even the proper word for it.

The centrifugal force is less, and she adjusts her size enough so that she can brace both feet against the sides of the channel. Using both hands now, she starts blasting inward with full-strength bio blasts. It's enough energy to obliterate a foot and a half of reinforced concrete.

Just in case she didn't before, Wasp should have Arsenal's full attention.

Blackout has posed:
Blasting into the spinning head of the robot causes significant damage to the internal workings. Somewhere along the line, she even blinds the robot to normal sight.

Other things are launched via the boxes located on the wrists of the robot. The head stops spinning and that's when the Wasp can smell it. Knock-out gas floods the area outside the head. Tiny particles of the gas seep into the ear canal and move toward the Wasp.

Not enough yet to knock her out, so it's a race to see who can do the most damage to one another.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
Janet smells the first of the gas, and draws a deep breath before she starts to feel its effects. Deeper she flies, past the ruined tympanic membrane and into the inner workings of the robot.

Mechanical systems, electronics, circuitry. An engineer's playground.

She doesn't have time to systematically dismantle the thing, much as she'd like to. Instead, Jan looks for big chips. Anything resembling a processor or the like, although that quite likely may be elsewhere. But really, any major circuit will do at this point.

Electronics get hot when they're in-use, so rather than touch something Janet fries anything that looks critical with more bio-energy. She knows she only has a couple minutes, so she tries to do as much damage as possible before blasting her way out through the OTHER tympanic membrane.

Blackout has posed:
Other things are fired from the robot's arsenal toward something outside. Very likely Blackout who may be assaulting the villain again. And then there's a splash as the robot falls/leaps/jumps into nearby water. Stinky water. Very stinky water.

The Wasp is deep within the workings of the robot's head. Blasting electronics, chips, and all sorts of stuff that resembles computer processors and control boards. Pew, pew, pew. And then the water is smelled. At least it's not knock out gas. But stinky water starts to come in from the punctured ear canal. Other things get shorted out. Janet is far enough away not to be splashed, yet. Only because she blasts the other tympanic membrane and flees through the other side.. Oh crap, there's stinky water coming right at her.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
Smelling melted plastic and ozone, Wasp knows when it's time to leave. She's flying as fast as she can, initially trying to get away from the knock-out gas when she sees the in-rushing wall of water. Sewer water.

Great.

Janet has already been holding her breath, but now it looks like she'll need to hold it a little bit longer. Flying becomes frantic swimming as she gets clear of the ear canal and the submerging robot. Reaching the surface, she draws a deep breath and immediately wishes she hadn't.

Gasping and coughing, Wasp grows to about half her normal height and tries to get airborne. Dizzy, struggling to breathe, she makes a couple of lazy loops and flops wetly onto the concrete.

Blackout has posed:
The robot sinks into the murk, beyond sight. Inert.

The glowing cyllinder is laying on the concrete nearto the Wasp. It may be radioactive. But she cannot feel the tell-tale burning of radioactive isotopes on her skin. So she may be fine at 20 ft away from it.

The man in black moves closer and as he does, he calls her name, "Wasp. I'm Blackout." His mask disappears from his head/face. He moves like he is injured somewhere in the ribs/shoulder/right arm. He kneels close to her and takes a breather, "Looks like you stopped him." comes his words.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
The two-foot tall figure of Wasp, wet and smudged from smoked electronics, pants and gasps for breath on the concrete. She props herself up onto her elbows, growing slowly back to her normal size as air once again fills her lungs. The wings shrink, finally disappearing entirely.

"Blackout." she nods, coughing a couple of last times. "Looks like you took some pretty good hits. Gonna be alright?" Shaking out her wet hair, she wrinkles her nose at the smell. "Can't say for sure whether I took him out or not, but he wasn't moving when I left. We should call in a diving crew or something."

She smiles, then. "And I'd say that *we* stopped him."

Blackout has posed:
Blackout looks down at his armored form. The fabric that he wears isn't fabric at all. But something the Wasp is likely familiar with, called Darkforce. An interdimensional substance that can be either matter or energy. Surely the Avengers have fought someone with those powers before.

Blackout winces as he tries to move his right arm which is actually slung (with darkforce) up over his chest. To immobolize the arm. "I'll be fine. But definitely going to the hospital to get this checked out."

Blackout looks to the murky water where the Arsenal fell in. He comments, "You did some damage. I saw you go in his ear. He freaked out, stumbled around, attacked again, but then went dark and fell into the water. I think he's done. But maybe call a clean-up crew?"

Fire trucks are heard approaching the area. Only about 4 minutes have passed since the explosion. The fire still rages in the distance - 100 yards away.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
Wasp sits up slowly, still dripping and smelly. "Yeah. Definitely a clean-up crew." she replies. Snorting in a most unladylike manner, she tries to hawk and spit. Failing, she coughs a couple times instead. "In any case, he didn't get what he came for. And I'm guessing his escape boat is long gone by now. Or at least it should be."

Looking over the man in the darkforce suit, she's thoughtful for a moment and then says more softly. "You know there's a warrant out for you, right?" Not like she seems exactly inclined to try and act on it just now. "I'll take care of whatever's in that glowing green cylinder. You get outta here before someone with a badge decides to wander over."

Blackout has posed:
Looking in the general direction of where the boat was. There is none to be seen. Blackout notes, "Guess it took off when we weren't looking."

Fire boats approach from a distance. Their red flashing lights can be seen across the water.

He glances back and looks to the Wasp. "Damn. Really?" He looks disparaged. Disappointed. "I really thought that would... no of course not. Thanks." He stands from the kneel. He's reluctant to leave. "Here.." he pulls out a card from a hidden pocket on his left thigh. He hands the card over. It reads, <Blackout. Corporate Security. 972-376-SAFE>. "Let's talk when you can."

Behind him, a black gateway opens into the darkforce dimension.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
Wasp remains sitting on the concrete, smelling and dripping. She accepts the card, smirking at the title as well as the phone number. "You got it. I just might be in the market for a Corporate Security upgrade, after all."

Janet smiles as the black gateway opens up behind him, unable to help herself from gazing into it.

Touching her earpiece, she activates her headset. "This is Wasp, with the Avengers. I need a radiation haz-mat crew over at the Hunts Point Water Treatment Plant as soon as possible."

Leaning back onto her hands again, she mutters to herself. "And I need a long, hot bath. With lavender bath oil."

Blackout has posed:
Blackout steps backwards into the portal. The portal closes. Soon, fire/rescue/hazmat/etc arrives and the scene is secured, processed, and the giant robot is taken back to Avengers Mansion for study by Stark and Pym or anyone else who does that techy stuff.
