It is a wonderful sunny day in Central Park and Ekaterina Vespucci has taken the opportunity to do some landscape painting on a large canvas. As artisits are a halfway common sight in the Park she does not attract two much of a crowd. A few passers by take out their phones and snap a picture or two of what she is doing given Kat's habit of painting in 4k quality - an advantage of her mutant heritage. A couple of other artists maybe students of hers or simply independent artists are nearby in a cluster. Things in the rest of the park are business as usual. Tourists tour and old men play chess. Some families are picnicing and workers from nearby buildings take their lunch. A normal day. But for those who are sensative to it there is a sense of foreboding. This is lost on Kat who has her Ipod clasic blaring something jazzy in her ears.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana Prince is in the park today, not as Wonder Woman but as herself. She's come here to meet with a small group of people near a popular street vendor who serves great cafe-style drinks. Its a casual meeting, a social club of sorts, old friends of Diana's from her work around the world. Literally in fact, older friends, people she'd known for a long time who've aged into their 50s and 60s now, while Diana remains in that youthful 20 to 30s range of appearance... something that many of them often make jokes and snide comments to her about... but they're all friends and they know who Diana is now and have accepted it.

Taking a moment from her friends, Diana stands up and moves toward a waste bin off the edge of the pavement pathway, she drops a few things into the bin and then looks over to see Ekaterina's painting in the grass. Diana is wearing a white tanktop and blue jeans, some simple leather shoes and she has a leather messenger bag strapped around her torso and hanging at her left hip.

She admires the artists work for a moment.

The first sign that something is wrong is the loud groaning sound from the sky. Everyone who is not absorbed in their earplug insulated worlds of music look to the sky. It's similar tot eh loud mysterious noises some scientists attributed to the Earth's magnetic field but the religious would say sounded similar to a trumpet heralding the end times. As catholic as Kat was removing her earbuds to hear the sound - for once aware she waves to Diana and turns her eyes skyward taking a few steps back.

It happens in an instant - a huge collossus shoots down from the sky. Some sort of automated monstrosity of an unidentifiable material and unknowable origins. It has four arms a head and is bipedal. It lands right on Kat's painting knocking the girl on her back and forcing her to scramble backwards. It then begins to rip up the park and hurl people around. Kat for the moment is so close to it she falls beneath it's notice though she is in danger of being trod on. "Madre stronza!" Kat swears as her large cornflower blue eyes expand to comedic anaime size.

Wonder Woman has posed:
When the wave from Kat came, Diana suddenly realized she knows the artist now that she could see her face. She was going to wave back to her as well, until that sound from above echoed across the park. Diana's eyes, much like everyone elses, also rise up to the sky to search for the source of the noise.

When the creature comes barreling down to the park and begins its chaos-causing rampage, the Themysciran Princess' entire demeanor shifts from enjoying a peaceful day to... work mode.

Just before the creature is to slam into Ekaterina, he's intercepted BY Diana, she's got her bracers and lasso out of her leather satchel and is suddenly moving to ensnare the creature with said lasso around its neck, to prevent it from being able to move any further, to cause any more damage or worse.

Ekaterina takes it as the better part of wisdow to remain under the mechanical monstrosities field of vision. She is internally grateful for Diana's presence and gives thanks to whatever powers saw fit to have her socialising in the park on this day. Unbelievably Kat is mostly sore about the loss of her painting. That is until the creature or robot or whatever the hell it is raises one of its immense boots and it looks like Kat is about to be stepped on. Kat has no option but to display some power and she outright teleports from under it reappearing sensibly with Diana between her and the monstrosity some 30 feet away from it.

The metallic creature has a head but no real neck making Diana's task of gaining purchase with her lasso around it's non existent neck supremely difficult. It's interesting design seeems to be for theatrical sport brawling rather than for an outright military purpose. It has no projectile or energy based weapons which mercifully limit the damage it can doto generally arms length (excluding things it moght throw). It hurls a young lady across the park who has her flight cushioned by some foliage. An awful fright but she will escape with bruises and cuts. This fight was easilty within Diana's capability to win but would she be able to stop this thing before it did too much damage?

Kat fursious at the destruction of her art was not prepared to wait. She disappeard again and reappears right next to the creatures head on its shoulder a can of black paint on hand. After materialising in front of Diana she sprays black paint all over the glass 'eyes' of the thing if it can be called as such. This blinds it giving an additional advantage to Diana. But it's wrath is swift. It grabs poor littlew beautiful Kat ragdoll smahes her on the ground then hurls her quite dead body right at Diana. Her big cornfloweer blue eyes stare lifelessly up at the Amazon.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Certainly not the toughest fight she's ever had, but the concern for Diana was the location that the fight was unfolding in... namely that of a high populated park on a sunday afternoon of all times. Even with her immense powers, it limits some of what she's capable of doing to defeat the machine. Kinetic blasts were out, wide sweeping attacks were out... she had to be more precise and less wide-spread in her offense, less she become as destructive and dangerous as the machine itself.

"No, get back!" Diana says to Ekaterina as she sees the girl coming to help her and to cover its eyes. Yes thats helpful, but Diana fears for the girl's safety... and rightly so, because a second later she sees her get summarily squished by the machine. This marks a sudden resolve in Diana, an anger inside her as she then starts to move at tremendous speeds. Her golden lasso is moved about the mechanical monstrosity in a way that 'hog ties' its limbs and legs up. The Amazon Princess leaps here and there, moving around its form as she snares it... and yanks it to the ground with a strong and fierce yell of frustration!

In the distance, two mounted Amazonian warriors are riding through the Great Lawn toward the fight, they'd been on hand today doing a public showing... something for the Themysciran Arts Center, it entertained crowds of people to see Amazonian Warriors displaying their combat arts.

As the two warriors ride closer, one calls out to Diana and tosses a javelin to her. Diana catches it and stalks toward the mechanical monster's head... She looks to Kat's body, then to the machine...

Diana might have faced much more of a struggle from the semi sentient monstrosity if it had ever seriously shifted it's attention to her. But here it had not. It was first fighting everyone and then attacking Kat who launched her own stupidly brave assault against the thing. When it turned its attention to Diana it was too late she was already hogtying it. And then it was completely immobilised. And waiting the killing blow.

Plenty of injured people and only one casualty. The young artist and art gallery owner Diana had met earlier. But was she a casualty. Already something interesting is happening to Kat's body. A stirring as it rapidly heals itself.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana didn't have time to observe Kat's return to life, to witness the healing, because she had a lot of eyes on her after the robot-monster was pulled down to the ground. It still lays there entangled in the golden glowing divine rope.

Lots of people watch now as the famous Ambassador of Themyscira steps around to the head of the metal killer and they cheer when she raises the javelin up and then jams it through the construct's head! Whether or not this truly kills the creation, is unknown but it does help secure the thing to the ground, as the javelin penetrates through the head of it and down into the earth a couple of feet!

People cheer, the police are drawing closer now to tend to the scene, the two mounted Amazons ride around the scene providing a show of power and additional security for the civilians to behold... and Diana turns to move toward Ekaterina, now having a chance to check on the young artist.

The Javelin does it's work and an pedestrian electrical fault type crackling can be heard. Then the robot as it actually now appears to be goes limp. A biomechanical gel leaks out of it in a manner reminiscent of blood putting an exclamation mark after Diana's extremely efficeint kill.

As unusual as the activity around Kat's body is she is proclaimed dead by one of the soon to be embarrassed paramedics on the scene. However Diana would see something unusual to the point of peversity. Very few people are observing Kat but enough would be to freak out at what happens next. The fight was over in two minutes and most of the damage Diana would have observed has already vanished. Even though she is not breathing her body is regenerating. Then Kat gasps sits bolt upright slams her hands over her ears. Her large lovely blue eyes are filled with tears and wild looking about without recognition - and she screams horribly.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana was stricken with grief that the girl had been harmed/killed in this sudden and senseless act of random violence. But when the EMTs arrived she knew to step back and let them do their work while she stood above them and listened.

When the emergency responders declared the girl dead, Diana turned away and she crossed one arm over her stomach and then put another hand up over her chin and bottom lip. She stared down at the robot on the ground then, watching the fluids leak out of its pole-skewered head...

But then Ekaterina was upright again, and the shouts from the onlookers caused Diana to turn back around to look down at the artist. She too could now see that the girl was healed, the EMTs were speechless and sitting back in shock.

Then the scream comes, Diana and the EMTs move to try to brace the girl and lay her back down so she's not going to re-injure herself--which is fairly common procedure for wounded individuals.

Diana speaks to her. "Careful, careful. You were badly beaten." She says in her smokey hued voice, flavored with that Greek accented English.

Ekaterina Vespucci has posed:
Kat seems to calm down before she says cryptically but audibly, "Oh God it hurts. Why can't I just stay gone? Why do I always always have to come back? Second time this fortnight I've been killed." She makes a judicious use of her telepathy to keep the EMTs at bay once she has regained her composure. It would appear to the men that they were hitting a barrier of air betwen them and her. She merely glances at Diana as the Amazon gives her advice but as Diana will be soon be able to see Kat is quite okay.

Miraculously, absurdly Kat gets up and starts to walk away rubbing her eyes. The only thing that appears to be hurt is her cheap clothing. She retrieves her beanie which she had lost when she was killed and goes to survey the damage the creature did to her art supplies and painting. She is thankful that in this enterprise the robot and Diana were taking up the lions share of the attention. Kat may have been an afterthought. An irrelevant epilogue to this tale of gods and monsters. But she has her own fans amongst the most observant. Everyone knew about Diana and mosters were a dime a dozen. But immortal little girls who were relaive unknowns was a new thing. The people watching Kat keep their distance though making it easier for Diana to approach Kat. She is continuously dismissive of the bewildered EMTs until they move to people who actually nesd treatment.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana steps aside along with the EMTs to let Katerina do as she wishes, since she is apparently uninjured. The Princess just stares at the girl as she goes, having heard her statements... she'd dealt with similar things in her history amongst the world at large, so she wasn't entirely surprised by this as much as other observers might be who're dealing with this for the first time.

Diana also gives Kat some time to recover and look over her smashed-up belongings before she approaches her to speak with her. "Do you know what this thing is or was?" Diana broaches the conversation by starting that, its pointless to ask if the girl is okay if she's been through this many a time before. "It certainly seems as though it had a score to settle with you. So to speak..."

Ekaterina Vespucci has posed:
"I don't know I've never seen it's like before. I've made alot of enemies in 1200 years but this thing only really paid attention to me after I attacked it. So was it after me? Or was it just bad luck of which I have alot? I suppose if I am somewhere else and another one of these things appears again they are likely to be after me in an absurd futile enterprise with alot of collatoral damage. An old enemy would know that thing can't kill me not in the permanent sense. Pretty much nothing can." The confirmation of Kat's newly revealed status as an immortal is done without pride in fact with a tinge of sadness. She really isn't enjoying the ride apparently.

"You have a body now to take back to the Justice League or where ever you care to. Something to go on? i'm sorry if I am not being helpful. This week has been rotten. I need a really stiff drink. Fortunately I own a club."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Slowly Diana nods her head to all that Ekaterina tells her. "Twelve hundred years is a very long time, plenty of time within it to make a wide array of enemies. I should know, I have made many in just 100 years." 100 years of being away from Themyscira... she was on her island for 800 prior to leaving it though.

Diana gives a look back to the machine before she returns her blue eyes to Kat's. "Yes, the machine is going to be taken to the League's Hall, in Metropolis." She confirms. "I very much hope that another one does not make an appearance, perhaps this was just some mad scientists idea of fun. Or perhaps this is a rogue machine from... something else. We will do our best to figure it out."

"I am glad that you are okay though. I had feared the very worst." She shows a faint smile then and nods once more to Kat. "Should you need anything, or find anything else out, you can always contact me."

Ekaterina Vespucci has posed:
Kat regains some of her composure and is more herself again smiling sweetly up at Diana. Back to being the girl next door again after all of the trauma. "Hmm yeah multiply 1200 years by whatever multiple being Lady Artifice gives that and you have my enemies. That and most of the 11 memebers of my race (if you can call such a paltry number a race) all hate eachother on one level or another. I'm sure you'll figure out something in relation to our silver four armed friend here."

Kat cants her head, "Maybe you can help me with something if you really are offering. Have you heard of the Warlord Crule?"

Wonder Woman has posed:
There are police on scene at this point and the crowds have dispersed some back to their Sundays... others are still lingering as a lot of photos and videos are being taken of the lasso'd up metal monster laying on the lawn. Diana glances over to the authorities who, as usual, have a lot of question for her--but she's on good terms with the NYPD as they generally enjoy everything she does to make their lives easier with all the madness happening in this city.

The last question there gets a peering of Diana's eyelids and she then shakes her head side to side. "I have not heard of that Warlord's name, no." She responds to Kat. "Should I have?" She then asks further.

Ekaterina Vespucci has posed:
"He's in Somalia and part of Kenya perpretrating a genocide on the Kenyan side of the border and fighting a war with the Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen in Somalia. I don't mauch care what he does to the latter but the former are innocents. Crule is also after a fashion my big brother. He's an ancient beserker who has been around in legendary Hyperborian times. I spoke to him via sattleite phone for the first time since the 1600s last week. he was pleased to hear from me though we have a history of trying to kill eachother. I'm not sure what to do about him. And if I ever reach a conclusion I don't have the muscle to take him down myself. I am not the strongest of my kind and only middling in terms of age. I've had to fall back on treachary and cunning just to survive. I couldn't do things the honorable way as you might have or I would have been dead long ago. I did get the better of Crule the last two times we tangoed but he has help now and I am not sure third time will be the charm."

Kat folds her arms, "Oh boy that was going to be a nice painting. I'd love to have words with whoeveer sent this monster here."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana softly nods her head to the other's words on the Kenyan matter. "Ah yes. We are looking into that and hope to resolve it as peacefully as possible. The League, that is." She then exhales and turns her attention to the police before she looks back to Kat.

"It was a beautiful painting." She agrees then, showing the young (looking) woman a soft smile. "You will make more, I am sure of it." Diana then nods once toward the Officer and steps toward him. "I have to deal with the follow-up to all of this. But hopefully we will be able to have words with whomever sent this construct here... Stay safe!" She offers a light wave to Kat then as she moves to help with the investigation.
