Date of Scene: 13 October 2018
Location: Gotham City
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Black Canary, Batman

Black Canary has posed:
SKKKKRREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

A powerful sonic blast echoes through the streets of Gotham. There's a truck full of stolen goods, commandeered from a warehouse. Pursuing it was a single motorcycle - somehow there very quickly. And... then that sonic blast and the back tires explode, the back of the trailer falling to the ground, basically disabling the truck. The rider of the motorcycle jumps off in midair, grabbing two escrima sticks, and is working the thugs into bruises and unconsciousness. One pulled out an assault rifle and another sonic blast went that way to knock the man over.

Batman has posed:
As of late, Batman has foregone the Batmobile in favour of airborne reconnaissance. The Batwing turns circles in a holding pattern high above Gotham, information trickling through a myriad of sensors planted throughout the City. All of it coming together to help him form an idea of just where to focus his efforts tonight. He's almost settled on the Narrows when the sonic blast sends a number of sensors in China Basin haywire. Lights blink red, meta-human alerts go off and behind his cowl the Bat furrows his brow.
With the flick of a button, the magnetic harness that suspends him in the cockpit gives way and he begins to plummet from the hatch in the jet's underside. It is a long fall but one he's done a thousand times before. As he passes through the cloud cover, the rebreather retracts back into his cowl and the air around him becomes breathable once more. As he extends his cape about himself to slow his fall, the malevolent bat-shape briefly casts a silhouette against the moon. As he lands atop the ruined and battered truck, the situation already appears to be well in control.
    "Canary."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary glances up, right after disabling the last thug. She smiles faintly. "Though I'd visit Gotham. Starling's been really quiet of late so... I needed some stress relief." She climbs up the truck to stand on top of it. "I was wondeirng how long it'd take you to drop by once you heard my calling card." She smiles faintly. "It's an honor to finally meet you." She extends her hand.

Batman has posed:
It is no secret that the Bat is reluctant to have others operating in his city. There are more than a few tales of him running would be vigilantes out of town, or at the very least threatening them. For a moment, he glances down at Black Canary's hand and says nothing. But the moment is only fleeting, and at last he takes it and shakes. When he 'borrowed' the technology for the League's teleporters from Alpha Flight, he also made a point of apprising himself of their roster. Enough to match a name and power set with the face before him.
"Green Arrows cleaned up the streets in Starling? I find that ... surprising."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary shrugs. "He and I are partners. And we are doing good work. It's quiet right now. I needed to expand my hroizons. So here I am. Thought I'd fight crime here for a while." She nods. "I know I'm recent to this scene. But I know my stuff. I've just... kept quite about it... until more recently."

Batman has posed:
"Keeping quiet doesn't seem to be your style," Batman answers, gesturing around them to the destruction the sonic scream has caused, "But I understand that Arrow can be an ... acquired taste. Or at least one that is best in small doses."
He steps down from the ruined truck, moving towards the incapacitated thugs as he fetches a set of handcuffs from his belt, "You're welcome to operate here as long as you need, provided you keep to the rules. No killing. No guns."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods as she watches. "Guns are for losers. I am practicing my archery though. I hope you don't mind some arrows." She smiles faintly. "I heard you aren't fond of guns. And if you kill someone, you ruin a small part of God's creation. It's not our right." She smiles faintly. "I've heard that some of your rogues are switching back to the side of good too." She hmmmms softly. "I thank you for your blessing, Batman. Hey - does the Justice League have an opening I can try out for?" She winks.

Batman has posed:
"One of them," Batman says of his rogues with a nod, although he doesn't venture much further on the subject. It seems to make him tense, as though he hasn't quite worked that whole saga out just yet. He readily moves the subject on, speaking as he prepares the thugs for the eventual arrival of the GCPD, "I've learned to live with arrows. You wouldn't be the only one in Gotham with a penchant for them. As for the League, that's a different case. How do you feel about an eight hour shift watching news feeds from across the planet on a satellite?"

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary frowns. "I'm a bit of a low-tech girl. I'm not really fan of space stations. Captain Marvel had to literally DRAG me up onto Mackenzie one day." She sighs softly. "I don't like television either. Give me a good book or a radio show. Big fan of the old Green Hornet." She wrinkles her nose, adjusting her mask, as if she's not quite used to it yet. "I'm just looking for a place where I can do themost good. Not sure that's Starling."

Batman has posed:
"What would Green Arrow think of that?" Batman asks, finishing up with the handcuffs on the last thug and standing up to turn his full attention back to Black Canary, "You said you were partners. Have things been going that poorly with your partnership?"

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary shrugs. "No. Not really. I just feel... unfulfilled. I was one special forces. I did great things before coming to Starling. Got married. Got widowed. Got my Canary Cry. Arrow is focused on Starling City. I do live there. But I need other options." She sighs softly.

Batman has posed:
"There are a lot of cities in the world," the Dark Knight answers, moving to climb back up onto the ruined truck with almost preternatural grace, "Sometimes it takes a long journey to discover where your home really is. If you need to come to Gotham to work that out, then you can operate here. New York and Metropolis aren't all that far. Maybe you'll find your fulfilment here." A pause, "Though I can't promise you will. This is an ... unpleasant business. I've been at it for years. You might say most of my life. I've yet to feel like I've got what I set out for."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods. "Perhaps. But it's something. It's a necessary service. Just like being a soldier. Trust me. I know. I was one." She smiles faintly. "I do wish I could take a look at your Batmobile. I brought my Harley here," she states, gesturing to the motorcycle that's off to the side. "Rebuilt it myself with armor. No real tricks like you're known for but it's a good ride."

Batman has posed:
The Batman's reply comes almost like a snort of derisive laughter - a rare thing from him, "The Batmobile. I've never called it that but given how much the name's stuck, maybe I should." He shakes his head, "Had to use it as a battering ram two days ago and it's a bit worse for wear. I'm using the backup."
He gestures overhead, and for a moment the circling Batwing can be seen moving amongst the dark clouds.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary raises an eyebrow. "You have a plane. Of course you do. Arrow has the most ridiculous contraption I've ever seen. A flying motorcycle. He looks like a fool on it but he won't listen." She giggles softly. "So - any thoughts on me being here? Maybe you can give me the grand tour?"

Batman has posed:
"I'm not the best person to defend Arrow's honor," Batman says flatly, leaving the notion of him looking like a fool to fall by the wayside. As much as he may want to latch onto it. He can at least keep it tucked away for later. The second question prompts him to glance around for a moment, "I know enough about you to know you won't be a detriment. But if you intend to stay here long term, I want you to know that I don't tolerate lone operators. If you want to stay, my hope is you'll learn to work with my team. I don't feel like that will be a problem for you."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles faintly. "No time like the present. How about a tour of the city? I'd love to see it from the air." She nods as she gestures to wherever the Batwing is hiding. "You are a legend - to work alongside you would be my honor. Maybe we can even share some gadgets. Yes, I know I'm a low-tech girl, but I do keep a few surprises on me."

Batman has posed:
The Batman stands impassive for a moment, as though weighing up the request. It's not the sort of thing he does, but at the same time there's a sense there that she may be going through something not unlike what he himself experienced some time ago. In the end, he nods his head and looks sidelong at her, "You should hold on, then." Up above, the Batwing begins a descent and the produces the grapnel gun from his utility belt and aims it skyward.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods as she wraps an arm around you as she braces herself. "You are actually going to grapple-gun your aircraft and ratchet us onto it?" she asks incredulously. "I thought that was a story." She braces herself, smilig. "And I promise to keep my voice down."

Batman has posed:
"Just make sure you hold on," the Bat says with a slight half-smile, glancing up for a moment as his Heads-Up Display indicates the precise moment to fire the grapnel. He does, and in an instant they are being drawn upward through the air at an incredible pace. To his credit, he makes certain to keep a grip on Black Canary just in case she loses hers. As they approach the Batwing, the underside opens up revealing the cockpit - dimly lit by a crimson red lighting. As the grapnel detaches, the two harnesses snap forward to catch them in mid-air. Both are drawn into the Batwing, and the Canary finds herself half-suspended over a series of displays and screens showing readouts of sensory information from all over Gotham.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary yelps as she's being yanked into the sky. She ends up wtih a harness around her and now in some kind of glider thing. She nudges at the harness to adjust it, then looks around. "Wow... Gotham looks so cool from up here." She isn't even looking at the screens and displays, prefering to look out the window down to theground.

Batman has posed:
"The harness allows for quick release," Batman advises, suspended in a similar harness in front of Black Canary's, "I found that seats and a traditional layout don't work. The harness will keep a grip on you, but I've kept the emergency release active if you want to use it." After all, he wouldn't want her to feel as though she's trapped aboard the Batwing. That said, he dips the wings and flies down low over the rooftops. He seems quiet for a moment, lost in thought. It has been a long, long time since he simply stopped to appreciate Gotham for what it was rather than what he wanted it to be.
"I should probably thank you," he says all of a sudden, apparently out of nowhere.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary was quiet, listening to the informatoin, and just absorbing the situation. She came to Gotham to play vigilante - and ended up flying with Batman. She then murmurs, "What for?" She isn't sure what Batman is playing at as she just flies along on the Batwing. She turns her attention to you, to try to get a read of your body language.

Batman has posed:
"It's very easy to forget why I'm up here," Batman answers, his voice still audible over the near-silent thrum of the engines, "To get fixated on a mission and think that I'm only doing it because that's just what I do. You've reminded me that there's a reason and the reason is down there. Gotham. It can be dark and dangerous, but there's a shine underneath that we work to bring to the surface. It's almost like seeing it for the first time."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles. "See? We're going to make excellent partners." She smiles. "Ever take this thing out during the day? I bet you'd really get a good look at your city."

Batman has posed:
"Bats are nocturnal," Batman answers, taking the Batwing in low over the skyscraper canyons of Gotham. He darts back and forth between the buildings, piloting the jet with exceptional agility, "We all need to sleep sometimes. Tell me, though. Where are you planning on setting up shop?"

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary smiles softly. "I don't know actually. I have a home in Starling but... I'll need a place here." She ponders. "Any suggestions for a place to set up shop while I'm working over here?" she finally asks. "This is your town - I don't know the lay of the land that well."

Batman has posed:
"That depends where you want to be," the Dark Knight offers, "I'm sure you can work something out. If not, I can make some suggestions. There's an appartment building near old Wayne Tower that you might find suits you. Central location. A bit upmarket but I don't think that will give you any problems."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods. "Are there any vacancies for a short-term rental? I don't know if I'll be staying long. But maybe I'll have a presence in both cities." She smiles softly as she just looks down. "Wayne Tower? YOu mean that billionaire? I'd love to meet him."

Batman has posed:
The Bat makes a scoffing noise at the mention of Bruce Wayne, "Idle rich. You're not missing much. I'm sure you could work out something in the short-term. Give me your contact details and I'll see what I can arrange for you." He doesn't bother mentioning that he likely already has contact details for most of the currently active heroes in the Tri-State Area.

Black Canary has posed:
Canary is _not_ normally in the tri-state area. She sighs softly as she gives you her phone number - she does have a cellphone - but it's an old flip phone. She hmmmmms softly. "I'll see about renting an apartment..." She then finally asks, "Well... yeah, billionaires are kinda shallow sometimes." She smiles faintly, wondering if you know who she really is.

Batman has posed:
"I've heard the same of musicians," the Bat says idly, smiling partly to himself but with his face turned away so that it's not easily seen, "Is there anywhere you'd like to be set down? GCPD have picked up your boys in the truck, by the sound of it." He gestures to the police band radio receiver in the cockpit.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods. "Back by my Harley. I don't want it just left there." She hmmmmms softly. "I'll find a motel room for tonight, then see about an aparmtent tomorrow. It was great flying with you. I think we'll become good friends."

Batman has posed:
"I think so, too," Batman answers. Shortly after, the Batwing comes to a low and even hover not far from the Harley. The underside of the cockpit opens up, allowing the harness to be released and for the Canary to drop safely to the ground below, "Keep an eye out while you're here."

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods as she detaches the harness, rolls to the ground, and then waves to the Batwing as it flies off. A very eventful night indeed as she gets to her Harley, and goes to find a motel. She travels along, trying to find a motel that won't ask any questions.
