Cast of Characters: Mercy Thompson, Wolverine

Mercy Thompson has posed:
New york route 3, a lonely road winding through upstate's lakes and forests joins with country road 56 at Sevey's Point. There's a gas station there, with an old school diner next to it. There's a few cars out front, mostly pickups or battered chevys. Inside there's half a dozen men at the counter with coffees or sodas, some have food, some are wating and a couple are harassing the waitress, who looks like she's used to it and is giving as good back as she gets.

Wolverine has posed:
The sound of the motorcycle can be heard for a few kilometers off. As it gets closer, the man that was on it could easily be seen. He's wearing sunglasses, but no helmet. His leather jacket is dark brown and old, and his jeans are dirty with a few tattered holes. His leather boots are also well-worn, and hanging out of his mouth is a half-smoked cigar. Pulling up to the gas station and diner, Logan turns off the bike, kicks the kickstand, and grabs the handle for refuelling. Filling up the bike, Logan keeps puffing, and when finished, moves to head into the place to pay for the gas with cash he pulls out of a very very old wallet.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
The men at the counter look around when Logan enters, mostly shrug, and go back to what they were doing. While Logan's paying though, Mercy walks in and takes a seat at one of the booths. She parked her battered but fresh washed and waxed VW rabbit out front. Fuel for her first, then the car. The waitress puts a water glass down in front of her. "Coffee please," Mercy says then turns to the menu. Like Logan, Mercy gets checked out when she comes in. Unlike Logan the looks linger.

Wolverine has posed:
Logan sniffs around, and pulls the cigar out of his mouth while he puts his wallet back into his jacket after paying. Logan doesn't even bother looking at the men, completely ignoring them. Paying the young kid behind the cash, Logan turns, and heads over to a booth behind Mercy. Doing the same dance she did, Logan looks at the waitress, and says, "Coffee. Black."

The woman nods, and smiles. "The usual?" Logan hurumphs, nods, and says, "Ya know me too well, Tess. Thanks. Extra ketchup this time huh? And a few pickles." Logan winks at her, and looks out the window while she moves away. "Heading somewhere?" Logan says to the booth beside his, and to Mercy. "Weather looks good."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy looks a little surprised when Logan speaks. "Up to the Raquette Jordan area," she says. The guys at the bar get looked back at. She doesn't shrink, more measures them and looks back at Logan. "I need some space, I've been in the City too long." She looks at the waitress, "The cheeseburger and fries, please."

One of the guys, middle aged and a bit is glowering at Mercy. He says something to the man next to him who glares as well then looks away.

Mercy takes note of the unfriendly looks, how not? but tries ignoring them into going away. "I hope the weather stays good a couple days. The forecast is good, but that's just another word for 'guess.'"

Wolverine has posed:
"Nice area. Good fer gettin' away from it all." Logan smiles, as Tess brings the coffee to each of them. Dropping off a plate of creams and sugar, she nods, and says, "Cheeseburger and fries, got it!" She smiles, and heads to the counter to place Mercy's order.

Ignoring the men, Logan adds, "So. Seems some of the locals here don't like you. Is there a reason for that?" Logan asks the question, almost like he knows something. "Yeah, I think the weather will hold. I feel it in my bones. Not that I have good instincts fer weather. Got caught up in a blizzard up north a few years back. It was not very...fun."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"It's the first time I've stopped here," Mercy says at the same time as one of the two older men, the more vocal one, gets up and looms over Mercy.

"Indians...buncha drunks and thieves," he says. "Hidin out on the rez...onea your drunk bucks run me off the road last year." He's working himself up. "Getout...." He waits about two seconds and when Mercy doesn't move he reaches for her. "Getout!" he shouts and pulls, rough.

There's not a lot of room to manuever but Mercy goes with the pull. She didn't plan for the twist he gave her arm, though, and she's sent crashing into the other older man and the thirty something logger next to him. And the fight's on.

Wolverine has posed:
Logan watches as the larger stranger moves to stand over Mercy. Taking a drink of his coffee, Logan takes a moment, and watches the situation start to unravel. Putting the cup of coffee down, and picking up his cigar from the ash tray, Logan stands up as they toss Mercy into the other logger.

"That's enough." Logan says, his voice ice cold. This causes everyone to pause and freeze. That was the effect he has sometimes. The look in his eyes as he looks at each man, one after another, and the sound of his voice. Both send chills into the hearts of the hardest men as each set of their eyes meet his. Dark. Cold. A killer's eyes, with a cigar hanging out of his mouth.

"Let the girl get back to her cheeseburger, and no one has ta' get hurt. Ya hear me? Let her go..now." His accent starts to creep in, as he gets ready to fight. His voice is almost a whisper, the whisper of someone who knows what he was doing challenging these men.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
If only they could understand what they heard. THere's that pause, frozen by Logan's icy tone. Then.... "Bitch," the logger growls, and aims a kick at Mercy. Mercy's not in a good position, but she blocks the untrained kick, and rolls to her feet. The logger's moving too, coming off his stool toward her. He's an experienced brawler and wades in using size and strength. Mercy's having none of it though adn waits for him to commit to another attack, blocks the punch savagely, grabs his wrist in the block, pulls it and sidekicks him in the groin,

The single word releases the others and at the logger's growled epithet, the older two men attack Logan at the same time, one going high with a roundhouse punch at his face, the other aiming an uppercut at his ribs.

Wolverine has posed:
Logan can tell Mercy can take care of herself, and with a grunt, lets each man strike him. The roundhouse punch connects with Logan's face, and draws blood. Logan spits the blood from his split lip on the ground, watches his cigar land a short distance away, and then laughs as the man realises he just broke his hand! Screaming in agony, the man lets himself get knocked unconscious with one punch from Logan's left fist.

The second guy fares a bit better, as there is a bit of tough, sinewy 8 pack under his clothes that prevents the man from breaking his hand. It is still like striking a wall, however, and he winces. Logan grabs the man by his other hand, twists him around, and pushes him head first and hard into the wall. The man collapses in a heap, 2 for 2.

Picking up his still-smoking cigar, Logan grimaces as the split lip heals, and puts the cigar into his mouth. Leaning against the wall, he watches Mercy with her dance partners with interest.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
The logger folds over with a silent moue of agony that turns into a thud and a sobbing groan as he hits the floor and doubles over, knees drawing up in a fetal position. The remaining local at the counter is smart enough to stay there after watching his three friends go down in less than a few seconds.

Mercy rubs her arm, the one grabbed and that she blocked with and steps over the wreckage on the floor back to her booth. She looks up at Tess. "I'll take mine to go," she says, quiet now. "And put his on the bill," Logan gets a nod and she looks at him. "Thanks for trying, and for keeping those two off me. I figure the least I owe you is your lunch."

Wolverine has posed:
"Fair enough. Thanks." Logan says, as the groans and moans coming from the men are like music to his ears. With a grin, LOgan gives Mercy a two finger salute and says, "Name's Logan. It was nice to meet you, and see you in action." Logan sits back down, and waves to Tess to bring him his grub. "I live in Westchester if you ever need help again. You can find me at the School up on the Hill with all the Gifted Youngsters."

Logan watches as Tess drops the food off, passes a bag with the burger and fries in it to Mercy, and turns tail. "Good luck out there. You fight pretty good. Maybe I can give you some pointers someday." Logan takes a very large bite of his rare t-bone steak, and his fries, covered in ketchup. "Mmmmmmmm."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Thank you," Mercy says. "I'm Mercedes...Mercy. ANd nice to meet you as well." She takes a breath and sits down when Tess waves her into the booth.

"You just sit there'n eat. I'll put that trash out, and they can come back when they've learned some manners. JIM!" she yells into the back. The cook comes out, a hulking man who just looks at Tess. "Get these three out of here," she waves at the groaners on the floor. Jim starts to do just that, dragging the first one out to dump in front of one of the pickup trucks. Mercy just watches.

"Guess I'm staying to eat," she tells Logan. "I'm always game to get some more pointers. I study shi she kai kan....usually four days a week. But something new is always good."

Wolverine has posed:
"AH, one of those. I study whatever gets the job done. Had a lot o' teachers over the years." Logan keeps eating his steak, and fries, and raises his coffee cup when he notes its empty. "This is a good place. Tess and Jim will take care o' ya now. They are good people and they saw what happened. If'n I hadn't been here, I'm sure Big Jim would'a got involved."

Logan continues to eat, and doles out some wisdom. "Ya got grabbed at first. I woulda hit him before he could get his paws on me. Try there. Use their weight against them, and you'd do fine."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Shi she kai kan is pretty much a whatever works style," Mercy says. "And thanks for the tip about the diner," she smiles at Tess, who's just huffed at Logan's praise and muttered something about what's right. "It was three against one and they have a bit of size and muscle on me. I figured let him grab and throw...get out and run. Not real ummm,' she waves a hand. "Satisfying but it seemed the smarter course. I'd have run after blocking the kick, but then you stepped in, so I didn't." She looks back at Tess, "I really would like that to go, I think...I think I need to get up to the woods and get some quiet. Please?"

t"You come back on your way home then," Tess says and starts packing Mercy's cheeseburger in a styrofoam box.

T"Thanks." Mercy takes the box, pays for all the food, hers and Logan's, and heads for the door. She stops by where Logan's still sitting. "And thanks again for stepping in, and the advice. I'll keep it in mind." She heads out to her car.
