Sindr has posed:
When last we left Peter Qui- er, that is, STAR LORD - in the Milano, he was being chased away from the big showdown with Sindr, Power Girl, and Drax (with an approaching Ares) by a rather large fire breathing dragon!

Now, the dragon is fast and maneuverable as one might expect of a living thing that flies, but whether the Milano and its pilot are better, faster, stronger, smarter.. We shall see!

The dragon hasn't quite been able to catch the Milano up to this point, but those fire breaths aren't anything to laugh at.

Star-Lord has posed:
Sure, other ships have better equipment, better weapons... better smuggling compartments to hide away booze from certain racoons. But Star-Lord didn't choose the Milano for any of those things.

Peter chose the Milano because it's one of the fastest starships in the galaxy, with more than enough weapons to handle similar ships of it's class. It's agile, fast, and the perfect ship for getaways. So, by the time the giant dragon is coming up on the Milano's ass, Star-Lord is already hitting the atmo afterburner and heading right for the maze of mountains.

There's a deadly focus to his eyes as he slides a finger upward on the steering controls, ready to cut speed with the flaps instantly to get through the canyons and narrow places. "This is gonna hurt..." Star-Lord grouses under his breath to himself, the cockpit HUD displaying all the variables for the ace pilot as he jukes, weaves, flips and goes vertical in the deadly dance with fire.

Sindr has posed:
The dragon has a few things going for it here; superior landing gear, a lifetime as an actual flying thing, and a prideful ferocity unmatched by so many other creatures.
As Quill jukes and weaves, the dragon handles abrupt changes in direction by slamming into a mountainside with its legs to take the impact, then shoves off again in a new direction. That superior landing gear in action.

What it doesn't have, however, is advanced propulsion. So while Quill's cutting of power to get through the tight spaces may cause a slight loss in speed, the dragon still seems to lag further and further, even if by inches.

Of course, it also tends to gout fire on a regular basis, so for now those inches only hurt its progress so much; the Milano still has to contend with the heat.

Star-Lord has posed:
The a-hole just uses it's legs to power through mountains, and the hide is probably not much better? "Aw man, this is going to be one of those days." If it were anyone else, they'd be complaining up a storm. Star-Lord? He enjoys a good piloting challenge.

Though with a bit less fire breathing would be nice. Still, The Milano can survive a few hits from the fire. It's gone through atmosphere and survives in space without issue. Time to see if it can follow the Milano everywhere.

With a perfectly timed juke upwards, Star-Lord sets the Milanos heat shields for planetary ascent, and starts to head up into space.

Sindr has posed:
One might expect - and they'd be right - that the dragon can only fly just so high. It gives a good chase, and even struggles there at the end, but ultimately... it just can't fly as high as the Milano.

Leaving Peter all alone, with nothing chasing him. NOW what's he going to do?

Star-Lord has posed:
The Guardians came to this corner of the galaxy to help with the evacuation. Other interests want to slow down the war, and Star-Lord has been checking out the planet for vital chokepoints the team could deal with. They can fight the small fry all day... but there's always a crucial point that can be hit to really make a dent in a plan. Or Strategy.... and this is obviously a war.

Sure, the fire demons are new... but they're obviously effective, given how much of the planet is being ruined. Time to go and finish up the scouting run. Having already done a check on the outskirts, the Milano dives right into the heart of the fire.

Sindr has posed:
Heading for a meaty chunk of burning stuff, Peter can skim over the devastation pretty easily. He ends up having to dodge some stuff, but the invaders seem to be focused on the things that are actually attacking them back. Strategic structures are of course damaged, and there's general mayhem a-plenty, but...

The interesting thing is that there are airfields that are cut off from access and occupied, but largely unmolested. Same with residentials, the sort of places where civilians tend to be. Yes, there's some damage, but nothing like the place where actual fighting is going on.

He does, however, find an area that is massively burning, and the fires are not extinguishing at all in spite of seeming entirely used up. In the middle of that area, reinforcements are arriving through a portal of some kind.

Star-Lord has posed:
"Bingo." Star-Lord gives subtly to himself, with an air of triumph. Recording what he sees and the readings from his instruments, the Milano is brought around and heads over to the nearest airfield. The composition of the region will determine what happens next.

Sindr has posed:
The air field is one of those that's occupied; there are fire demons left behind patrolling it, some of the ships are damaged, and one of the buildings is burnt out and still on fire.

Sindr has posed:
According to the ship's instruments, the residentials, and indeed some of the buildings on the airfield, contain lifeforms other than the fire demons. Probably the inhabitants. People on this side of things aren't being driven away, or whole-sale slaughtered.

Star-Lord has posed:
"Huh..." Peter gives in a musing air as he looks at the scanner readout. "A bit contradictory..." Peter states, before he turns the Milano back around and starts to head to the part of the planet where the majority of the Guardians are.

Clicking the comm system, Peter speaks over their commnet, "I've got a few targets of opportunity from looking around. Warlock, I'm going to need you at the rally point sooner than I thought. We have a possible breach."
