Synopsis: Lex Luthor tests the Mark 1 warsuit in Metropolis.
Cast of Characters: Superman, Superboy, Lex Luthor

Superman has posed:
It's not all alien invaders or natural disasters. With a day that's rather quiet with nothing earth shattering happening, Superman is just flying over the streets of Metropolis, waiting for Superboy's arrival the teen having called Clark earlier in the day of wanting to get together if he was free. The older man readily agreed with the obvious caveat of if trouble happened they'd need to take care of it. So there he is about a hundred yards in the air quietly floating through the 'canyons' that the skyscrapers create visible to the citizens below and easily found by anyone looking for him..

Superboy has posed:
Why the hell did he ask to meet Superman today? He could be preparing one of the Halloween parties with his college friends; he is invited to a few. Or maybe... no, not really.

Someone reminded him family is important, and he has not talked in person with Kal in almost two years. In fact not even once since Conner moved to New York. A few phone calls, a few e-mails. A couple aborted attempts at meeting, interrupted by the usual emergency situations. But the last time they met in person Conner was the 'Hero of Hawaii' and he wore one infamous earring.

Conner has changed quite a bit, grow up a couple inches and bulked up considerably. He wears his hair shorter. Once thing he has not changed is the leather jacket. Or rather, anther leather jacket. He goes through a lot of them. The joys of high-power super-brawls.

He is also a few minutes late. Which is also very typical Conner. "Hey, I am up here," he says form the rooftop of a skyscraper, not bothering with yelling due to, well, Kryptonian senses.

Lex Luthor has posed:
It comes out of nowhere, practically. The initial burst of green slams directly into Supermans back; a focused burst of Kryptonite radiation contained in a dense magnetic field that collapsed on impact, spreading the energy out, while keeping it from diffusing so the force of the hit has enough kinetic energy to send Superman flying into the side of a building. It's enough Kryptonite radiation to weaken Superman for a few seconds, but not enough to severely poison him. A test shot.

Half a mile down the road, on top of a skyscraper, what can only be a man in a green and purple suit of some kind of hi-tech suit stands there, it's right hand outstretched and a circular projector in the palm of the gauntlet pointed at the Man of Steel.

Inside the Warsuit, Lex Luthor smiles, "Got you."

Superman has posed:
Superman is in the middle of looking up to where Superboy called out when he's side swiped by that emerald blast of energy and goes flying into the side of the building, thankfully the building is a newer design made to withstand potential hits like that so Superman is sent parning off the building falling several stories before he's able to stop himself from falling further.

Grimacing in pain his skin taking a slight green pallor with darker green lines showing the veins in his face the Kryptonian turns to see where that blast came from, his vision blurred both by the weakening radiation, and pain.

Superboy has posed:
Conner was looking at Superman, so he saw what happened perfectly. Robot attacking, or something. That green light gave him a chill even from a couple hundred yards, and if Superboy was prone to think before acting he would be more cautions.

But he rarely does that thinking. Hey, he is a hero, some things shouldn't be thunk upon. Bad guy ambushes hero ---> Bad guy will get punched!

So he charges the armored figure. Half a mile blurs into half a second, there is a loud hypersonic boom. He has gotten faster the last few years.

Lex Luthor has posed:
It had taken a long time. Oh, a very long time. Research. Development. Trial. Error. He's even had to compromise in certain ways for this moment to arrive. The technology was there, but it wasn't good enough. It needed enough power to be able to stand up to flying gods. The long game was one Lex Luthor was very good at... and it's paid off.

When Superboy launches at him, that hypersonic boom shatters windows and sends people ducking for cover. The person in that green suit of armor? They just... stand there, waiting. Superboy had been in his sensors since he started... and the suit gave him the perfect angle and timing to bring up the gauntlet shield to deflect him.

When Superboy moves in to punch the warsuit.... he literally /crashes/ into a force barrier of such power it stops him dead in his tracks, sending a sonic boom out by blocks. The man in the suit? He hasn't moved. Indeed, he's stood his ground against the half-Kryptonian. "Nice try, boy." The voice is filtered through the helmet, "But it isn't good enough."

The shield is kept on, with a small section of it powered down as the Kryptonite infused plasma blade is powered on in the right gauntlet. A solid five feet of contained kryptonite/plasma hybrid matter comes in from the side to try and pierce through Superboys chest from the left side, "I'm not here for you, but if you insist..."

Superman has posed:
That half a second is enough time for Superman to recover, the green fading as he finally locks on to the armor, eyes widening when he sees that blade comeing out, he's gone in an instant, half a mile vanishing much faster than in half a second, the older Kryptonian glancing back to use a wide flash of his head vision to vaporize any falling glass before he's slamming into the side of the armor, hands that can crush coal into diamond digging into the armor to force the arm up and away from Superboy.

With a grimace and grunt of pain Superman's face contorts his hands starting to show the lines of kryptonite poisoning as he touches the advanced alloy.. "Superboy.. Call the league.. " he says as he forces the armor back placing himself between the armor and younger kryptonian..

Superboy has posed:
Superboy heroic charge ends with the impact of his body against the shield. Painful, too. He bounces off, stunned, landing on the rooftop and cracking the concrete with the impact. "It is SUPER-boy," he manages with a groan.

Another chill up his back as the kryptonite plasma blade forms. Conner blinks, trying to clear his sight and roll away from getting cut in two. Fortunately Superman gets there first, and Conner manages to stand up with just a wince. "Call the League? But I am not a member." He digs for his cell, trying to remember the Hall of Justice number, and finding it didn't survive the impact. Typical.

"Plan B, Supes," he decides, "we beat this bot into scrap metal and then we call the League," so he feints right and dives left, just trying to touch the metal armor. Tactile telekinesis might be able to dissemble the whole thing more easily than punches.

Lex Luthor has posed:
"RRRAAAAGGHHHHHHHH!" Lex Luthor shouts directly into Supermans face. The armor, amazingly, holds up against the overwhelming force that Superman brings to bear, not to mention the kryptonite laced into the complex matrix does it's own work to weaken the Man of Steel. The man in the warsuit brings up a leg to kick Superman away, the strength amplifier built into the armor bringing over 60 tons of power into it. Probably more than enough to send Superman flying away, if he's not prepared for it.

He's waited a /long/ time for this. A pinnacle of /human/ achievement taking on one of the flying gods. "Good. Let's see you bleed!" The man start to fire beams of kryptonite energy from his palm projectors at Superman, randomizing the projection from focused laser to area of effect 'grenades' as necessary to keep the Man of Steel off balance.

Superboy, it seems, is being ignored in favor of fighting Superman. Obsessively, even... and it turns out to almost be a mistake. When Superboy tries to reach for him, that left gauntlet is brought up, and the force barrier is activated again, keeping Superboy from reaching the armor itself.

Superman has posed:
"Not a bot.." he manages to get out.. "Heart Beat.." he adds the helmet keeping him from being able to hear Lex's voice, but doing nothing to transmit the faint sound of his heart beating in his chest.. The kick, and blasts do their job, keeping Superman weakened and off balance but not doing enough to be lethal in their own right.

Reeling back from another blast Superman goes with it to try and get some range away from the armor his eyes starting to glow a sullen red as he gathers his will to unleash a torrent of heat vision back at the armor focusing on the thick armored breastplate the intensity of the twin rays of energy enough to have his cheeks and forehead glowing..

Superboy has posed:
Superboy's senses are not as good as the full-blooded Kryptonian's. Although it is unlikely he had checked for a heartbeat. Mental note to try that next time he faces a robot-looking enemy.

Also, damn shield. He punches it a couple times to little effect. Then changes tactics, hitting the rooftop with his palm and breaking it around the armored figure's legs. Hopefully the enemy losing its balance will give Superman an opening.

Lex Luthor has posed:
The punches do drain some power from the shield, but it holds... the heat vision drains yet more power. The shimmering effect of dealing with both attacks at once makes it look like it's flickering slightly. Still, it's likely designed to withstand a lot more. When Superboy breaks the rooftop around the armor, Lex Luthor has a moment to react. Allowing himself to drop through the rooftop gets out of the heat vision focus for a moment.

Then, the thrusters built into the armor activate.

Lex Luthor is not an idiot. He's documented Supermans reaction times over a long period of surveillance and investigation. He knows the Man of Steel inside and out. The only way he was going to be able to have this armor have a chance against Superman was if it was directly connected to his brain for the least amount of lag in the interface possible... and a cyberpathic neural net fits the bill perfectly. So, when he's about to hit the floor he was in... he suddenly switches directions and flies /through/ the front of the building, heading directly for Superman with both projectors aimed at Superman and Superboy. "DIE!" He shouts as the kryptonite infused blasts fire at him, the power behind them filling the sky as Lex Luthor drains the reactor on the warsuit heavily. The test has been successful... time to disorient both Superman and Superboy so he can disappear.

Superman has posed:
The twin blasts slam into Superman sending him flying to crash several blocks away in a near by park, barely concious much less capable of following the armor suited menace, he weakly starts to stand unable to keep his arms under him long enough to pull himself up..

Superboy has posed:
The blasts also hit Superboy pretty hard, but he is not as vulnerable to Kryptonite as Superman. On the other hand he is nowhere as powerful, so he falls down a hundred feet before he can recover, finding himself dizzy and slooow. Certainly not able to chase after Lex. Instead he flies down to help Superman up. "He fled," he says, not sounding as happy as he could. It didn't feel a victory. "C'mon, big guy. Lets see... I'll take you to the Hall. I guess we better warn the League about this creep."

Superman has posed:
Superman shakes his head.. "Fortress.. " he says weakly as he starts to get himself up.. weakly rising into the air several feet before dropping down a couple and catching himself in mid air.."You've been right?" he asks his head still foggy from that last pair of hits..

Lex Luthor has posed:
With all the power he put into those blasts, Lex Luthor couldn't help but smile at the results in the warsuit. Flying at 500kph, he was well out of range by the time the two had gotten their bearings again, and heading out of Metropolis.

"The test run was successful. Mark 1 is coming home." Lex barks into the commlink to his new armory. "With some tweaks, I'm confident the alien can be defeated. Finally, the war is nearing it's end."
