Cast of Characters: Phoenix, Cyclops

Phoenix has posed:
Amidst all the concern, exiling herself, and eventually deciding to come back for the fight with the Shadow King, Jean Grey for a few moments is winding down. She's dressed very casually, track pants, and a warm long sleeved top, sitting by the lake and reflecting on the serene water. Taking a step back as it were, to ease the tension.

Cyclops has posed:
Jean is not the only one seeking a hint of solitude to reflect. Scott is on a run at the moment, moving through the woods at a decent pace. It isn't a full sprint, but he is chugging along. He's dressed in track shorts, running shoes, and an old, faded 'Bush' t-shirt. Some band way back from the 90's. Scott loves his weird vintage stuff. 'Retro' he calls it. His sunglasses are carefully perched on his nose as he breaks the treeline and ends up beside the lake. He slows and pauses by the water, the sweat-dappled leader catching his breath. He spots Jean and hesitates for a moment. He's faced down supervillains, but he balks a hint at talking to this one, singular girl. Finally, he nods to himself and makes his way over. "Mind some company?," he asks as he draws closer.

Phoenix has posed:
"Scott," Jean says as she turns her head to look in the direction of his voice, offering a warm smile, "company could be good, have a sit," she pats the grass by her side, "I recently returned from my self forced exile to Antarctica...glad to be back. I see you're keeping in shape, that's what I would have expected of you."

Cyclops has posed:
He chuckles softly and makes his way over. "I'm glad you're back. We missed you." He settles down onto the grass beside her, and he nods, glancing down at himself. "Just trying to make sure I'm useful," he says. Scott is quiet for a moment, staring out at the water. After a few moments he looks over at her. "Settling back in well enough? Need anything?"

Phoenix has posed:
"And I missed you, as well as home," Jean sighs, "Antarctica is no fun place to setup camp." She laughs when Scott suggests he's trying to be useful, "come on, there's a reason the Professor made you the team's Field Commander, you're always useful..." she does pause a moment about the settling back in, "it's...rough. This whole affair with the Shadow King...I'm very worried about it."

Cyclops has posed:
Scott smiles softly when she says she missed him, and he nods. He brushes his fingers back through his hair and sighs softly as she mentions the Shadow King. He scoots a bit closer as they look out at the lake. "I know. It's...well...I'm worried, too. What're your thoughts on it? What should we do?" He looks over at her, cocking his head to the side. He values others opinions on serious subjects, after all.

Phoenix has posed:
"Doctor Strange and the Avengers are in agreement," Jean relates to Scott, "the Astral Plane is best be left alone for the time being, the strike needs to be in Mexico, and we need to sever his host from the infinity shard." She looks directly at Scott, wondering how caught up he was in all of that, after all, it was unusual in the way it mostly involved telepaths for a change. Rendering Jean one of the main players on the X-Men's side, along with Betsy.

Cyclops has posed:
He nods a bit and sighs. "I wish I understood all of that better, Jean. I understand boots-on-the-ground trouble, but...this kind of thing is so over my head." He shakes his head and shrugs his athletic shoulders. "But...I'm glad you're involved, if that makes sense. There's nobody I trust to know how to handle this sort of thing more then you."

Phoenix has posed:
Jean reaches to touch a hand against Scott's shoulder, "it's not over your head while I'm around, we're a team, right?" She offers a rather confidant smile, belying her concerns and worries about the struggle to come. "I will have to shield a lot of people...against a force I'm not sure I could match. It'll need to be extremely fast operation."

Cyclops has posed:
"We're a team," he responds. He gently picks her hand up from his shoulder and, building up a hint of confidence, kisses her fingers lightly. He then lets her hand go. "Well, you just tell me where you need me and the team when this happens. We'll be there every step of the way that we can be."

Phoenix has posed:
"Oh...? That was gallant," Jean says with a surprised, if amused smile on her face. "The Avengers are coordinating this one...do you have an in with them? I could always ask Doctor Strange to make introductions."

Cyclops has posed:
He smirks a bit and glances back out at the water. He looks like he's about to comment on the 'gallang' thing, but he leaves it. "I don't, actually. We've crossed paths in the field and such, but...nothing concrete. That might be for the best?" Scott glances back over at her.

Phoenix has posed:
"I generally agree that we'd rather stay out of affairs that require the Avengers' attention, but, they are not bad allies to have on our side, right?" Jean suggests, before daring to state, "besides, we're every bit as capable, aren't we? I mean, what do they have? Gods and Monsters?"

Cyclops has posed:
"We are every bit as capable," he repeats, nodding. "I absolutely believe that. And that isn't arrogance, in my opinion. However...allies are a good thing. We aren't living on an island. We're all tied together and everything. The Professor says that all the time." He looks over at her again, considering. "...You look good, by the way. I mean...it's good to see you."

Phoenix has posed:
Jean laughs at the compliment out of nowhere, turning to face Scott directly, "this whole thing is making you nervous too, right?" She asks at first, but after a slight delay, quips, "you look pretty good yourself, so it's also good to see you. Did you get a chance to work with some of the students? These are tough times for them as well."

Cyclops has posed:
"Yeah, it is," he admits with a soft chuckle. He nods at the mention of the students. "Usual training with the New Mutants, though there is some...stuff going on with a few of them. Nothing big, though. They're good kids and I'm proud of them. Sincerely."

Phoenix has posed:
"So...what were you up to while I was in Antarctica?" Jean asks, after all, she came here to forget about the daily concerns. She didn't want to shift back into that, as she just did, although it was important to make sure Scott is all caught up.

Cyclops has posed:
He holds his arm up and out, offering a place for Jean to slip if she wants. If she doesn't respond to it, the man lowers his arm as casually as possible. "Training, mostly. I also coordinated an outing to the movies for the kids. Not all of them, of course. Just the group with top marks in my class. It was fun, and I think we needed it."

Phoenix has posed:
"I like that, rewarding good performance," Jean shifts her gaze back to the lake, and then offers softly, "perhaps we should find some time to go to a movie? I've had good grades for a long time..."

Cyclops has posed:
Scott Summers can't help but laugh at that. "That sounds pretty nice. We...haven't really had a chance to enjoy eachothers company in a bit. It'd be...it'd be good, I think." He clears his throat and smiles over her.

Phoenix has posed:
"Then it's settled...," Jean concludes without adding another word about the matter. "Only rule, we don't discuss any missions or threats...we try to be normal, I mean, as can be, deal?"

Cyclops has posed:
He considers that and then nods with a lopsided smile. "Deal. Absolutely a deal. Just a date. No business. No missions. Just us." He brushes his fingers back through his hair and leans back a bit.
