That Time is Coming (again)
Date of Scene: 07 December 2018
Location: Unknown
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Superboy, Wonder Girl

Superboy has posed:
Times Square early December, cold luminous day and the Christmas decorations are less glaring they will be when the evening arrives, but they are there. And the shopping madness has already started.

For Conner it is a yearly torment. See, he has many friends, so he has to buy computer games, console games, gift cards (which will be mostly used to buy computer/console games - he knows it) and all that. Well, that is the easy part. The difficult part is buying for family. That is, super-family.

Where the hell do find a present for Superman for Christmas? And the other Kryptionians! He spends days every year until he finds something that might work (and it later feels it was a silly idea). So is what he is doing today. Not flying over the city, but going around popular shops for something cool.

Wonder Girl has posed:
Cassie Sandsmark is out in the New York cold as well, wearing a long coat and scarf along with hat and mittens that she doesn't really need. The blonde isn't in school right now, or at least she's finished high school. She still hangs out with her school crowd, but is spending more and more time at Titan's Tower these days. When she's not on Themyscira, that is.

Leaving a coffee shop, she waves to a couple of girls from school and sets off on her own. That's when she spots another familiar face. Waving brightly, she calls out and heads his way. "Hi, Kon!"

Superboy has posed:
Conner is lacking the usual winter paraphernalia most people braving the outside world is wearing. But his leather jacket is there, of course, as usual. Otherwise... he has grown a few inches and cut his hair since the last time Cassie saw him, but he is still easy to spot.

He also allegedly has amazing supersenses, but somehow his friends usually see him before he spots them. That says something about Conner, right?

In his defense he has not seen Cassie in a couple years. It is a weak defense. He turns and blinks slowly, a smile slowly forming as he identifies the blonde. "Cassie? Wow, Cassie!" He steps forward. "I had no idea you were in New York."

Wonder Girl has posed:
Cassie Sandsmark bounds right up, trying not to be in a hurry about it. There aren't a lot of people who she can really be herself with, and Conner is one of them. Something about them both being superhuman and both being teenagers.

Blue eyes are bright and she flashes that wide smile as they approach. Answering his question with a shrug, she gestures in a vaguely appropriate direction. "Yeah, I've been living at Titans Tower with the team." she replies. "So where've you been keeping yourself these days? It seems like forever."

Superboy has posed:
Oh right. The blonde Wonder Girl, duh. Conner does not follow the Titans activities much, but he is aware of most superheroes in the tri-city area. He took seriously to know who are the good guys and the bad guys from the begging. One of the few things he took seriously back when Cassie and he (and Tim, and Gar and a few others) hanged together.

"Uh, yeah. When did we stop seeing each other?" And drifted apart. It feels it was a slow thing when he moved to New York. "I live here, going to college, heh," because it is funny he is the one going to college.

Then again Tim probably has three doctorates by now.

Wonder Girl has posed:
And Cassie's mom is an archeologist. "Going to college? That's great." she replies. "I've been spending as much time as I can on Themyscira lately." Training. With the Amazons. Come to think of it, up close she's also more tan than when he last saw here as well.

"Mom wants me to go back to school sometime, but she also understands the importance of what I'm doing now. Even if she doesn't always approve." And what mother WOULD approve of her daughter risking life and limb, even in the name of doing the right thing? Demigoddess or not.

Superboy has posed:
Conner wouldn't know. That kind of family life has eluded him so far. Superman is more like a distant brother (who casts a looong shadow) and much of his attitude was (and is) him trying to assert his independence.

He will never go Krypton to train, for instance. Still, it is cool Cassie has a chance to meet the Amazons. "Damn, that is really cool. So you are a real Amazon now, uh?" He looks around, shifting to Cassie's side. "Want to come with me to get a burger or something? Talking in the middle of the street will lead to getting bumped by annoyed New Yorkers a lot. Or we can go flying, if you prefer," he offers.

Wonder Girl has posed:
Cassie Sandsmark shrugs at the Amazon question, her smile turning wry. "Sort of. I mean they treat me like a sister and everything, or at least they do while I'm training. But I'm NOT an Amazon by blood, and I'm reminded of that all the time."

She looks around the street where they're standing, and chuckles softly. "I suppose we're going to be in the way sooner or later, yeah. And how about we walk, actually? It's nice sometimes just to blend in, you know?"

Superboy has posed:
"Yes," agrees Conner. It is really harder for him to blend, he went from lab rat to superhero to find out he was half-Kryptonian. Blend is something he began to do a few months ago. People just does not recognize him much if they don't see the big S on his chest. It is -kind- of nice. Sometimes. Maybe.

"What are you doing here? I mean, in Times Square," asks Conner once they start moving. He is letting Cassie lead, since he was just wandering hopelessly.

Wonder Girl has posed:
"Oh, meeting some old friends from school for coffee." Judging by the time, that was probably hours ago. "I mean, what better place for Christmas than Times Square, right?" The blonde does seem to know her way around New York, or at least she's walking like she does.

"So is, um, school now a full-time thing for you?" Which is, of course, a roundabout way of asking whether he's still moonlighting as a hero.

Superboy has posed:
"I suppose so," replies Conner hesitantly. "I mean, I remember my first Christmas in Metropolis, they have more... space. Hey, they could put a larger tree in Central Park, that would be great."

As for the college question. He nods, pauses a few seconds, then adds, "it is, I mean, it takes time but I still go out patrolling and sometimes fight bad guys. It is not as frequent like when I was in a team. But I have the time, I no longer sleep much. Besides, Robin is gathering a team again. Er... our old Robin, not the shorter one in the Titans."

Wonder Girl has posed:
Cassie grins at that. "Yeah, the East Coast is starting to get pretty thick with Robin's. But I know who you mean." she replies. "He's putting together a team, hmm? You'll have to keep me posted on how that goes." Not just for *her* sake, of course.

"So why aren't you sleeping much anymore? I mean, I'm guessing you mean that in a 'good, my powers are growing' sort of way instead of a 'bad, I'm becoming psychotic' way."

Superboy has posed:
"No, it is a Kryptonian thing," comments Conner. So yes, his powers evolving. "I should... I think I lost your phone number when I moved, and then my cell got destroyed." Repeatedly. Anyone sells adamantium cellphones for superheroes?

"I bet Robin still knows, have you kept in touch with him?" Because he was the reliable one. Conner didn't have to assume many responsibilities when there was an 'adult' around. He has been catching up, though. "I will keep you up to date anyway if you want, though."

Wonder Girl has posed:
Cassie Sandsmark nods slowly to that, looking a bit relieved on the whole 'sleep' thing. She smiles when he mentions his cell getting destroyed. "You have a new one yet? I'll text you my number." Cassie pauses, then adds. "You can push all your info up into the Cloud, you know. But yeah, I'm sure Robin still has my number."

He also probably has a contingency plan to take her down, if he's anything like his mentor.

Superboy has posed:
"I think it has been five this year," comments Conner with a lopsided smile. But yes, he should have put that information in the cloud. Or memorize it. It is not safe in a cellphone he is carrying despite all the security measures of those devices, so... "no, don't text that. Send it to my email," he gives her an anonymous account. "You have a real secret identity, right? Mine is kind of flimsy, but I don't have a normal family."

Wonder Girl has posed:
"It's sort of secret, actually." Cassie admits. "I mean, I don't wear a mask or a cowl or anything. And even though I don't carry a golden lasso or wear the emblem out in the open, I don't exactly go around trying to hide my face." No, it doesn't take a lot of imagination to put pictures of Cassie and Wondergirl side by side. She pulls out her phone, then, and sends him an email with her number. "There you go."

Superboy has posed:
That is fine if Cassie does not care about being ousted much. Conner certainly doesn't. Almost all his friends were super-humans until very recently. Other, more bat-trained, common friends would no doubt be very frowny about their carelessness.

But Cassie lives in a fortified T-shaped tower in an island. She will be fine.

"Thanks. What about the burger? Or are you in a hurry?" Pause. "I mean, it has been ages since I last saw you. If not now maybe during the weekend?"

Wonder Girl has posed:
Cassie Sandsmark gestures ahead while they walk. "Right in here. It's a local place, but they've got some of the best burgers around. Homemade sodas, too." Flashing him that grin, she asks. "You still have your ravenous appetite?" Chivalry be damned, she reaches for the door handle to open it first.

Superboy has posed:
For burgers? Of course he does. "What? I like burgers," replies Conner defensively. Besides, college cafeteria food loses its appeal after a while. Unless it is pizza.

So burgers are good here, uh? He peers for a second as Cassie opens the door. New York is so large he will never memorize all the good places to eat, but he tries. "Alright, let me invite you at least. It was my idea," he offers with a smile.

Wonder Girl has posed:
Pizza is a staple of the Titans, which means that Cassie is pretty likely a bit tired of it. "Burgers are a nice change to pizza and Ramen." she replies. It's not like the Titan's can't cook, it's just that most of them retain their teenage appetites.
