While I still can...
Date of Scene: 15 January 2019
Location: Southside - New Troy
Synopsis: Suzanne takes Nuala to lunch, and leaves her with a lot of confusion, and alusion.
Cast of Characters: Nuala Duvall, Sister Reinhardt

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Nuala's stress levels are through the roof. The impending Nova orders for her arrest, the need to sever from the galactic system, and the implications it could hold for humanity all weigh on her. She needed to get out of the area. She left to Metropolis, a little distant from the hub of activity. She even left the ship and the Slim Suit there, so it'd be harder to track her. The only piece of technology she retains is a silver band across her forehead, which her auburn locks drift across to partly hide it. Most of the time no one recognizes her. Particularly without any other indicators of her otherworldliness. She looks like an average thirty-something woman. Blue jeans and a heavy black jacket cover her as she gets off the bus. She is not in the right part of town. The run down buildings and grass between the curb and sidewalk only are too common. She carries in one hand a plastic container containing some small mass. Perhaps a pack of lunch meats, given that the container says 'Oven Roasted Turkey Breast.

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
Then there is Suzanne, who goes to The University of Metropolis for a degree in music. She notices Nuala step off the bus and tilts her head. "It was definitely different o see the woman out of uniform, but she did recognize her. Of course, she didn't want to give herself away, but...she did feel the compulsion to help.

So, she approached Nuala and sighed a bit. "New in the area, are ya?" She says softly. "This part is the unforgiving side of Metropolis." She says as she nudges Nuala to come with her. "Come on. Lemme get you something to eat."

Of course, Suzanne is hiding her left hand.

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Nuala was caught by surprise a little when Suzanne speaks, she had started to glance at the signs over the store entrances. Smoke shop. Adult bookstore, a deli.
"What?" is the response, glancing at Suzanne's nudge. "Oh, yes, I am sorry," she apologizes, her strange accent giving her away. "I am just looking for the Southside Rescue mission." She suddenly adds. "I am not homeless, I just came to bring them something that could help them. I heard they are having trouble keeping their food storage supplied." She seems to have missed the offer to get her something to eat all together.

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
"you should eat before you head there." Suzanne says pointedly. "You won't do very well helping others if you're hungry yourself." She says as she gestures towards a place to eat. "I also didn't ask if you were homeless. you just looked lost." She says quietly. "PLus, getting something to eat gives us a chance to talk.....and get off the street."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
The open offer from Suzanne gets a slightly bewildered look, and she takes a moment to look over the other woman, as if assessing her somehow. "I suppose," she says, her statement hanging as if there is more to say. When she says more, it's a little abrupt though not in a rude tone, there's distinct confusion. "I'm sorry, have we met?" She doesn't recognize Suzanne outside of the Lantern persona, and certainly wouldn't expect to see her here even if she did.

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
"No, we haven't met." Suzanne says. it's a bit of a lie, but Nuala hasn't met Suzanne as she is without her uniform on. She guides her into a fast food joint and orders a burger for the both of them....as well as a soda. If Nuala's confused, she won't be once she sits down. "Yeah....coming out of a bus all by yourself in the Suicide Slums, you're going to get mugged unless you have a blue cap, have an S on your chest and the first two syllables of your name is 'Super'." Suzanne's pretty blunt at that point. "PLus, this is the territory of the Vagos.....and they mug anyone that is alone and not wearing obvious Vagos colors." She then sips at her soda. "That was the reason why I simply grabbed your arm and just dragged you along with me."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
"I suppose it might seem like a bad idea." Nuala is accustomed to far more imposing threats than a street gang. Then again, she usually has far more imposing tools to fight back against those threats as well. "I do not understand criminals attacking people in a poor area of town," she admits. "What is there to be gained by stealing from the poor, they would not get much money, I would think." She looks down at the burger, and picks it up to take a bite out of it, chewing slowly.

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
"This is how some humans are. The gangs would still get money from the poor....if only for bragging rights to say 'I have more than you'. Others think it's a rush just to take from someone else. And still others don't do it for money...but they're just natural bullies. Welcome to the human race." Suzanne says with a roll of her eyes. "We're not perfect...but I try to think there's SOME good in each of them."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Nuala shifts slightly at the 'welcome' statement, perhaps uncomfortable. "Yes, I suppose," she says. "I would like to hope we could move past that. I came here to help the local rescue mission, and show them how they could provide some food for the homeless in the area in a way that would not take from their resources very much. She takes the plastic container that previously contained lunch meat. Inside is a fungal growth of some sort, dry and cracked and sitting carelessly in the container. "It's a remnant of the recent fungal infestation that threatened the world," she explains, the quickly raises a hand in defense. "Not the dangerous one everyone heard about. There was a counterpart that was cultivated to help combat it. This is a fragment of that counterpart. Completely harmless, and actually edible."

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
"It always takes resources to feed someone, cuz the food has to come from somewhere." Suzanne says softly. "And yes....I can see that." She does smile, but doesn't explain HOW she knows that. "Eat up. If you're going to do what you say, you're going to need a bit of strength. Not just physical, but mental. Some people think they 'deserve' some help around here...because they're poor. And that's why they're poor."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Nuala takes another bite of the burger, studying Suzanne closely as she chews. "Well, I can't make them not poor. I'm not very good with money. Never had to think about it much before." An arch of her brow is given as she considers the fact, "Though I may need to soon." She dismisses the thought, returning to her examination. "I have to say, you do not behave like most hum-like most people," she catches herself from using the world human as if it is an alien race. "I cannot say that I have ever had someone approach me quite like this. Are you sure you do not know me in some way?" She may be ignorant of human customs, but...this is a little weird.

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
"In SOME way....yes. I'm also being cryptic on purpose. I have my reasons for staying this way for now, but I AM a friend." She takes another bite of her burger and chuckles. "I'm Suzanne Reinhardt....now we're no longer strangers."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
"Nuala Duvall," is the answer, "Though I am guessing you already know that. You are familiar with the UN address, I am guessing?" she says. "If you want me to reveal more about the organization I serve, I should let you know that I cannot, and it would not be good for Earth if I did." Humans don't have a corner on the market of 'wanting something' and trying to befriend to get it, so her natural suspicion is raised.

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
"I know...about them both. I don't offer friendship in return for something....well I do....but not in the way you may think." Suzanne rolls her eyes. "Again...being cryptic. So....I'll just say that I have your best interests at heart. Not who you work for. Not to leech off of you someday. Not some revenge plot from a supervillain....though that last one seems to stem from just about every supervillain that's ever occured isn't it?" She then shrugs. "But...for you."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Nuala's blue eyes search Suzanne's face as she starts and stops her explanation, as if trying to figure out the admittedly removed piece of the puzzle. She stops eating, and as the other woman speaks, she goes from a suspicious expression to a more generally confused one. "For me?" she asks in puzzlement.

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
Suzanne nods. "For you." She says as she finishes her burger. "Because many journeys begin with inner reflection. However, not everyone gets a mentor." She then points to Nuala's food. "Finish up."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Nuala makes a fringed smile, and takes another bite. "Is this a religious group you are speaking of?" she asks, taking a final bite of the burger and chewing curiously. "I am not very familiar with a lot of human religions, I have to admit."

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
"To a....point." Suzanne takes a deep breath. "For now, All you have to do...is be you. And, in time....you will see your true self be recognized.....for better...or for ill."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
There is a slight scoff of a laugh, "Maybe," she says. "However long I have left on this planet," she says. "I may not be here for too much longer, depending on how galactic lawyers work out their details." She gives a dismissive wave. "I should not have said that, nevermind."

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
Suzanne sighs a bit. "You'll have a lot longer than you think. FTL travel is still not that fast. Even without the resources you once had, you still bring something to others that....you don't even realize you do. But that's a conversation...for another time." She says as she starts to get up. "COme on. You still have to get that food to the impoverished...don't you?"

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Nuala doesn't argue, she knows that the officers have already arrived, they are simply waiting for the word from their authorities on how to procede. She gets to her feet. "Exactly where are you from?" she asks with a tilt of the head. "Most terrans know nothing about faster than light travel, even those who are advanced in the sciences."

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
"I'm from earth. But again......I can't elaborate quite yet on how I know." Suzanne says.

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Nuala shrugs, "Well, I will not pressure you," she says. "I have had plenty of secrets I had to keep, and it is really not my business," she admits. She gives a pause, and adds. "At least, I certainly /hope/ it is not my business, because that tends to make things more complicated." She picks up the plastic container.
"Thank you for the lunch," she offers, "And it was pleasant to meet you, perhaps we will meet again."

Sister Reinhardt has posed:
Suzanne smiles. "We shall, NUala. Do not worry about that. This is about the journey...not the destination."
