Hitting The Weights
Date of Scene: 28 January 2019
Location: Avengers Mansion - Gym
Synopsis: Workouts and welcomes abound
Cast of Characters: Black Panther, Slipstream, Black Widow (Romanoff), Iron Man, Wasp (van Dyne)

Black Panther has posed:
T'Challa is over working out on the machines. He is wearing a simple dark t-shirt and shorts, and there is enough perspiration to suggest he has been at it for a while. T'Challa's face shows strain as he lies on his back, doing a bench press. For many of the Avengers, working out with weights that depend on gravity is not really an option. T'Challa is using one of the machines that can generate incredible amounts of weight for the heroes to work out with.

He finishes and powers the machine down. Sitting up, T'Challa takes a drink from a bottle of water and then rises, wiping down the bench and bar with a hand towel as he walks over to look at the sparring ring while drinking more water.

Slipstream has posed:
Heading into the Gym is the Young Avenger known as Slipstream, aka Drake Winters. The hot shot eSport gaming champion turned superhero by accidental explosion seems to be in good spirits as always. He is wearing a black pair of Avenger workout shorts and a matching shirt. He was once a skinny computer nerd, now more along the lines of a mobile soccer player. He's put some muscle on over the last year of being with the team.

As he spies T'Challa (Wakanda Forever!), he lifts up a hand to wave in his direction, offering up a bright smile. "Afternoon!" He calls over as he gives a few swivels of his body to loosen up his joints. "Looks like you've been at it for awhile."

Black Panther has posed:
T'Challa has looked over the files of everyone, at least enough to know by sight those that he has not interact with before. "Mr. Winters. A pleasant afternoon to you as well. I am just finishing a work out," he says in that voice that somehow manages to be smooth yet raspy. "I apologize we have not met until now. Congratulations on your latest achievements. I am not very familiar with E-Sports. But I understand them to have been quite considerable. And difficult," T'Challa says. He walks over to offer Drake his hand in greeting.

Slipstream has posed:
Reaching out to take his hand, Drake gives it a firm shake. There's a bracelet over his left wrist with numerous colorful LED's flashing all in green. It keeps him alive. "Thanks! The video game thing is behind me now for the most part as I'm a full time Avenger, but it was a lot of hard work. People think playing video games is easy. I literally put in twelve hour work days scrimming with my team, over, and over, and over. No days off for months." He lets go of the hand, straightening up some. "I've heard so much about you. You're like a celebrity. King of Wakanda. Super smart like Tony, just as rich too. Into technology. Great fighter! Kickass code name. I'm trying not to get all giddy and awkward but I'm gonna do it anyways because I'm really just a big nerd who got lucky. Can I get your autograph? My best friend will flip out."

Black Panther has posed:
T'Challa is dressed in a simple black t-shirt and some shorts. He has a towel about his neck and is drinking from a bottle of water, a bit of perspiration suggesting that he's been working out for awhile. He is standing over with Drake near the sparring ring as the two converse. Anyone getting up an update from Jarvis would likely have heard that T'Challa arrived two days ago and has taken up residence in the Mansion for the time being.

T'Challa gives a soft, warm chuckle at the the summary of his bio. "Thank you, Mr. Winters. That is much to live up to. If you would like an autograph, certainly," he tells Drake. "I understand that you are incredibly fast. Would it be asking too much to see a demonstration?" T'Challa asks him. "I am also wishing to spend time training. In particular with those I have not worked with before. We are strongest when we work as a team," the African says, his accent a smooth mix of African and Oxford English.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
Now that the Mansion is starting to be back to normal, Natasha has opted to use the training facilities instead of heading over to the Triskelion. While SHIELD has a great training area, they also have agents. A lot of agents. Many of whom would like a shot at besting the infamous Black Widow.

At least here, she can look forward to none of that. While a challenge might happen, it is usually comraderie based and as opposed to a one-up contest.

She is dressed in a pair of shorts and a tank top, feet and hands taped as she was intending to work with the heavy bag a bit. Her hair is short, almost in a boyish cut, well above her shoulders. She has a bag slung over her shoulder which she sets on a convenient bench nearby. Finding the room occupied, she gives a smile and a nod before speaking. "Good afternoon. I hope I'm not interrupting."

Slipstream has posed:
"Cool, I'll snag it from you later." Drake says in regards to the autograph. "But, yeah, sure. I can do a demonstration for you. How would you like me to do it? Go back and forth across the room? Leap off the roof and watch me blink down to the ground without going splat? I can also create a pocket sonic boom but it sorta breaks /everything/ around me, so that's more or less an outside in a controlled environment sorta thing."

And there is the most baddass red head on the team. Drake lifts a hand upwards. "Hey, Nat!" He calls over with a grin. "You aren't interrupting. We're just kicking it and doing the meet and greet thing. He wants to see my speed." He taps a button on his bracelet, sort of a 'reset' option, then gives a few stretches of his legs back and forth.

Black Panther has posed:
T'Challa and Drake are over by the sparring circle talking. T'Challa looks like he's finished or was in the middle of a work out. Shorts and a t-shirt, already perspiring, though with a towel around his neck now, and a bottle of water in hand.

Before T'Challa can answer Drake on which type of demonstration he'd like, the new arrival, Natasha, draws their attention over. "Natasha. I was going to come looking for you and Clint. You have saved me a trip," he says walking over to her. "Well, half a trip," he adds, his small grin indicating the joke. Knowing he is sweaty, he offers her a two-handed handshake as a greeting. "Not interrupting at all. Mr. Winters was just going to give me a demonstration of his ability."

Iron Man has posed:
"Well /I/," Tony says grandly and loudly as he arrives, "/Am/ here to interrupt." And Tony will own that fact and embrace it. Dressed 'casually' to some degree, the inventor arrives with a drone robot in tow, though he's mostly ignoring it. The drone is about two feet high, not floating, but trundling along smoothly behind its boss like a meek yes-man.

"I've got some welcome wagon to do, Steve tells me," Tony proclaims with a charismatic, relaxed smile. Half of his attention down in a handheld device that he's working with, the orange holograms flicking rapidly as he skips through and manipulates them with his right hand.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
Natasha returns the two-handed greeting, ending with the Wakandan crossed arms and a nod to the monarch in their midst. "It's a always a pleasure to see you, T'Challa."

Then the ego arrives. Natasha rolls her eyes a bit. "Hello, Tony." She motions toward Drake as she remains next to T'Challa. "I've seen him in the field but not under controlled situations admittedly." She eyes Drake now. "How about you go to my room, get the magazine I left on my nightstand? We'll see how long that takes you. Don't worry, no booby-traps." This time.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
Did someone let a bee in? There's a buzzing of some flying insect and then, abruptly: Janet! The petite socialite appears almost out of nowhere with a puft of displaced air as she resumes all five-foot-four of her full size. "Booby traps? Again?" she asks of Natsha, with flickering dismay. "Let me know if any of them are the smoke kinds, it takes forever to get that smell out of my clothes."

She's in athletic gear-- calf-length leggings worn high on her waist in a riotous clash of blue and red, and with a midriff-baring red athletic racerback sports top. Her shoes are, for once, sensible flat-soled athletic trainers, though they are (naturally) a color match for her outfit. "Are we getting a group rate at the gym now, or are you boys all down here heaving weights around and glaring at each other?" she inquires, absently tugging her towel through her fingers of her free hand.

Slipstream has posed:
Watching how T'Challa and Nat introduce each other, Drake lifts his brows upwards. "Was I supposed to do that too? Or is that some kinda secret handshake or something, because it looked really freaking cool." Oh, there's Tony! He brightens up, going into full hero worship as he lifts a hand up to his Avenging idol. "Hey Mister Stark." He says, though quieting as it seems that he has come with business. He gives a glance to Natalie and nods his head, giving a few more stretches to limber himself up. "Hi Janet." He says as well to the Wasp upon her walking in.

Black Panther has posed:
T'Challa returns the crossed-arms salute to Natasha, lips drawing into a charmed crooked smile as she remembers the gesture. "I think the greater pleasure is mine," the Wakandan tells the Russian woman. To Drake he says, "It is a traditional greeting in Wakanda." He repeats the gesture towards Drake to show him. But then more people are arriving!

"Tony. Good to see you," T'Challa says, looking back to Natalia and Drake in a polite way before moving over to greet Stark. A firm shoulder clap is given as T'Challa says. "Ah. Yes, good. So Captain Rogers has spoken with you of my desire to join the team. Formally," T'Challa says. "I hope it will serve as a good example for my people. As we begin to work more with the rest of the world."

"Janet, hello," T'Challa offers as the woman literally buzzes in.

Iron Man has posed:
"He did, you have his stamp of approval. Works for me, glad to get you on board. Everything should be set up for you now," Tony announces to T'Challa, with a final and overdramatic tap of hand onto his device. "Full membership access. Some of it required my personal approvals, and those are done. So, you can walk into the dangerous experiments downstairs, now; yaaaay," Tony says, by way of amused joke crossed with realistic warning.

"Hey kid; still mostly in our dimension I see," Tony greets Drake with a quick smile and flick of a wave.

A look is expended sideways to Janet with a dubious amusement. Tony is most obviously not in workout clothing. The jeans aren't exactly suggesting he'd go near any of the machines for anything other than an upgrade of its software. "Mocking the team building exercises? We can schedule you for bonus time in the monitor room," Tony teases, in a very good Captain America impression. He can't hold it, though, and a smirk of his own follows. He's multi-tasking easily.

"T'Challa, I'm actually here about the press conference. How's tonight work for you? I was going to announce something else but I'll slide it back to get you in first, announce our new Avenger," Tony says, smooth as always when related to media matters.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"I've switched to poisonous gas instead. Odorless," Natasha offers in a quip to Janet. It sounds like a joke. It might be a joke. Then again, considering who said it, it might not be.

She does wander over to that heavy bag she had planned on working out with, starting to stretch out her shoulders and arms then the rest as she listened to the greeting wagon going on. At the word that T'Challa has asked to join, she gives a smile and then swings her first punch at the bag.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
Janet stares at Natasha's back as the redhead blandly offers her explanation and wanders back to wale on the punching bag. The fashionista pans her gaze back to the gentlemen, and twists a thumb in Natasha's direction. "I can't tell if she's kidding or not, and that scares me almost as much as the nerve gas," she mutters theatrically.

"So! Hello, boys," she greets them. A little over-exaggerated 'I'm a little teapot' wave and sideways bend accompanies her smiling greeting. She seems to take their effusive greetings in stride as de rigeur. "Am I hearing that right, T'challa? You're gonna be back on the roster, officially?"

Slipstream has posed:
Repeating the most coolest across the chest handshake ever created, Drake gives a grin to T'Challa. "Hey, congrats and welcome to the team! That's awesome." He says as he radiates positive energy with a big grin. To Tony, he nods his head. "Mostly. Eighty percent of the time. Trying to improve on that ya'know." He eases off a bit to let the big dogs talk, taking place to another punching bag to start popping at it with quick, practiced jabs, moving about it slowly as he crab shuffles about.

Black Panther has posed:
Black Panther smiles at Tony's news, and chuckles softly at a few of his comments. "Tonight would be fine," T'Challa confirms to Tony. "I am just planning it to be myself staying here. I told Okoye I would be fine here without any of the royal guard. So there are probably no more than two of them staying in the neighborhood now. I mention only in case the Mansion is attacked and they run over to help."

T'Challa gives a soft smile at the exchanges between Natalia and the others. "Yes, Janet. I am officially here to be one of the team," he confirms. "Thank you, Drake. I look forward to fighting alongside of you."

Iron Man has posed:
"Yeah, let's get them into the security detail to get into the main floor at least," Tony says, snapping his fingers, attention back onto his hand device as he handles that. "We have some defenses here, obviously, and I'd prefer they only shoot the bad guys, not your bodyguards..." Tony works on that, and then turns it to show T'Challa. The screen scrolls, showing a number of people. Tony's astute, he seems to know who to add, but he'll check anyway for T'Challa's confirmation. "These accurate?"

"Speaking of mansion, I've allocated room four upstairs, if you want to personalize it. If you need anything that isn't in there or don't /want/ cleaning service from the drones, just ask." Ask the AI, obviously; Tony doesn't care.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
"Aiieee!" Janet squeals happily and throws her arms around T'challa's neck to hug him effusively. "I'm so glad you're sticking around. The mansion's so much better with you around," she says. Somehow she's wrapped herself around T'challa's bicep and hugs his arm, leaning against him unapologetically for balance.

"If you can spare her, can I borrow Okoye?" she pleads with him. "I haven't seen her in forever and we need to catch up. As long as it won't get in the way of, uh, kingly things," she amends.

Black Panther has posed:
Black Panther looks over the information that Tony has. "I believe Nakika has just become part of the active guard. I will have her information sent. If you have not obtained it before I can," T'Challa says to Tony with a shake of his head and a chuckle. "That would be perfect. Jarvis metioned this. Jessica helped me move my things in already," T'Challa says.

And then Janet is coming over to give him a hug, seemingly not mindful of his having worked out. Though he did at least towel off. He smiles to her and reaches an arm over to give her a side-hug. "She is currently seeing to duties in Wakanda. Though I expect her to show up at the embassy as soon as she can." The captain of his guard isn't likely to let T'Challa too far away if she can help it. "I will certainly make sure that you get together," T'Challa says. "And also, if I may stop by later? I wished your opinion and help on a matter or two, Janet," he tells her. T'Challa glances over to Natasha, smiling as he sees she's into her workout.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
Despite her attention to the bag, Natasha is listening. When she hears the thud nearby, she glances over at Drake and moves to join him. She takes hold of the bag, to old it steady and offer more resistance to Drake's workout.

She does glance over to those at the door, tossing out, "We should have a celebratory dinner of some sort. Maybe out. Or catered here. On Tony, of course."

Iron Man has posed:
"Nakika? Sure." Tony doesn't bother to deal with it, he just sends along the task to JARVIS, and then reorients with a laugh at the mention of a party. "A reason to celebrate? Sure. I'll schedule and organize that," Tony nods. He's the expert at parties, after all. Though with Tony running it, it might become an enormous event. "If you want to do a dinner after the press conference, we can do that too." All the parties.

Tony then spots a blinking item on his device. "Lab test complete, things to do. I'll check in again later to collect you for the media," Tony smiles to T'Challa, offering a handshake with a curt small nod. Tony's style of welcome isn't as huggy.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
Janet blinks at the unexpected request, but instantly returns a boneless shrug of assent. "Sure!" she says, promptly. "Hopefully it's nothing super serious," she informs the monarch.

Natasha's suggestion prompts a grin from Janet, who's still got her hands wrapped around T'challa's bicep. "A dinner, on Tony? Love it," she agrees. "Oh, also, if anyone needs outfits for the conference, lemme know," she calls after Tony before he can leave. "Unless we're doing the whole super-suits thing, but I mean, that feels kinda played out, doesn't it?" she asks, nose wrinkling.

Black Panther has posed:
T'Challa gives an approving look at Natasha's suggestion of a dinner, though does not contribute any thoughts on the matter. His dark brown eyes have a warm light to them though as he looks about the team. It gives the impression that the banter between the Avengers is much to his liking.

T'Challa shakes Tony's hand again. "Thank you Tony. I will speak to you then," he confirms. T'Challa turns to Janet then at her question. "I suspect you may find the matters to your liking. Especially as one involves... clothing," T'Challa tells her in his voice that manages to be raspy and smooth at the same time.

Iron Man has posed:
"Great. Giant robot heads wait for no man," Tony kids about his project downstairs. Many of them know he's taking apart a Sentinel. Then Tony adjusts his tune, "Well, no. It waits for me," he appends.

He waves to the room and swans his way out, with the robot behind him quickly pivoting to immediately follow, hurrying to catch up.

Slipstream has posed:
As Nat holds the bag, Drake punches it a bit harder as he moves around it, using the extra weight to put a bit more pop in his strikes. He continues to glance over now and again to listen on the conversation.

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
"Don't try and butter me up," Janet tells T'challa, eyes dancing as he does exactly that. "Clothing, huh? You should know I've designed outfits for entire royal familes. Lots of wealthy Europeans who are trying to get out of the Stone Ages, present themselves as a 'unit'."

"Though," she amends thoughtfully, "there are some Rockefellers who want their own reality show and they asked me to come up with wardrobes for all of them, and ... I mean, on the one hand, it's a good chunk of money, but on the OTHER hand, I don't know if I want my main label attached to that trainwreck."

Black Panther has posed:
Looking over to where Drake is working the punching bag, T'Challa says, "Excellent form, Mr. Winters. I would not interrupt you. When you finish I would enjoy that demonstration though." The Wakandan gives Drake the arm-crossed Wakandan salute that the younger man was just learning.

T'Challa turns back to Janet and says in a warm but serious tone, "Janet. I assure you. If there is one thing I would not joke with you about? It is clothing." He gives her one of those lopsided smiles of his, and since she doesn't seem to mind hugging him, gives her a quick side-hug. "It is good to be back with the Avengers," he tells her more seriously.

Slipstream has posed:
After getting in a few more reps, Drake steps back from the bag and gives a grin to Natalie. Turning to T'Challa, he nods his head. "I'm ready when you are." He says as he swings his arms back and forth a bit to loosen up. "Just let me know what you want me to do. Just go from here to there? Do a round of sparring? Go outside and watch me shuttle about?"

Wasp (van Dyne) has posed:
"It's good to have you back," Janet says, and the flirty socialite rises on her toes to kiss T'challa on his cheek. Success requires a bit of effort and some cooperation from T'challa, given the height difference between them.

"Since you boys are busy, I'm gonna spin up some music and get on the treadmill," she says, and digs out a pair of wireless earbuds from a hidden pocket. "You two play nice and try not to break anything irreplaceable, please?" she says-- but her eyes are teasing despite her tone, and she wiggles her fingers at Drake and T'challa before trotting towards the treadmills.

Black Panther has posed:
T'Challa leans down to assist Janet in the kiss to his cheek, smiling to her as the woman moves off towards the exercise machines. The Wakanda moves over to join Drake, giving Natasha a nod of his head before pausing to consider. "How about first just moving back and forth across the room as quickly as you can?" T'Challa requests. "After that... are you able to use your speed going up walls?" he asks, turning to glance up at the ceiling overhead. Surely there's a good perch up there somewhere that could make a good destination for someone super-speed running up a wall.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
Natasha releases the bag as Drake steps away. Instead of turning back to her own workout with the other bag, she's focused on the others. The demonstration of Drake's powers is something she is wanting to see as well. She crosses her arms as she glances up at the rings hanging from the ceiling, perfect for their gymnastic types when they are wanting a strong upper body workout.

Slipstream has posed:
"My speed powers are kinda weird, because I sorta push myself from one place to the other, so I've been able to use my powers to sorta buffer myself in free fall or accelerate upwards in weird directions. As long as my blinks can reach it physically. I can't move 'through' physical objects or anything. I tried that once, knocked myself unconscious for about a minute. Pretty sure Bruce was just messing with me when he told me to try it." Drake says as he gives a few more stretches, then walks clear to one side of the room. After a crack of his neck, he pushes off a foot.

*BLINK*

He reappears across the other, a faint blue vapor trail in his midst of his propulsion. He's as fast as light. Blink and you surely miss it.

Black Panther has posed:
Black Panther moves over besides Natasha when he sees that she is stopping to watch the exhibition too. "That is incredible," T'Challa intones softly , seeming impressed at the speed that Drake showed. "So if a person had been in between, in the way? Or a few people? Can you react, weave through them at the same speed? Or is it a straight line only?" he asks.

There is a necklace beneath T'Challa's t-shirt that might sometimes be visible. Silver, it being difficult to see much more than a bit near his neck. Suddenly black seems to flow all across his body, so fast one might not be sure it came from the necklace. Wearing his Black Panther suit now, T'Challa asks, "Might I see it again now?"

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
That gets Natasha's attention. "Remind me to get one of those made," she murmurs to the King as he takes on his alter ego. "It would save so much time in the locker room."

Her attention is back on Drake. She's seen him in the field a few times so it isn't as shocking as it had been the first time she'd seen it. Not that it isn't impressive. It is always impressive.

Slipstream has posed:
"Ah, I can dodge it. But my bursts are so quick that pretty much I can hit my line of sight easily enough. I will say, I once rocket punched a ninja after he tried to kill me and I put that dude into critical. I felt real shitty about it when I found out he was just a young dude like me. Uh.. The Foot Clan kinda has it out for me because I keep screwing up their robbery attempts of getting high tech stuff. Just luck of the draw." Drake says as he waits for T'Challa to suit up.

*BLINK*

And again, he's across the room.

Black Panther has posed:
Black Panther's mask retracts in much the same way it had spread, revealing T'Challa's face. "You will have to talk to Shuri about that. I am so proud of her. I could spend years and it would not work half as well," T'Challa tells Natasha. He looks back to Drake. "Very interesting. Even the air is excited. Heated I mean. When you pass through it. Your thermal is a bright blur." The rest of the armored suit disappears as it had come, returning T'Challa to his previous appearance. "We will have to work on fighting alongside each other," T'Challa tells Drake. "Thank you for the exhibition. I think I will go and get cleaned up." He turns to smile to Natasha. "Forgive me for leaving before we have had a chance to catch up. If you would allow, I will look for you later to talk?"

Slipstream has posed:
"No problem! It was awesome to finally meet you." Drake says after zipping back across the room in a quick blur. "I'm always around if you wanna kick it. It will be fun." He says as he lifts a hand upwards to him.
