Thief Training 101...
Date of Scene: 04 February 2019
Location: Unknown
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Gambit, Souvenir

Gambit has posed:
It'd been Cannonball's request that Gambit give Erika some training in being a thief... and since Remy liked Sam, and since the Kentucky native had bribed him shamelessly, Gambit had agreed. Thus the cryptic message left on the girl's voicemail this afternoon. "Dis is Gambit, meet me outside de gates of de mansion at 10:45 tonight. Don' tell anyone where yah goin'. Don't be seen. Delete dis message."

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir deleted the message, and did her usual routines that nobody ever thinks twice about. Then she has a broken pencil from someone who is somewhat sneakier than she is, and taps it to make sure she shakes anyone following her and checks the security cameras that she did not know to look for, carefully avoiding detection. The end result is her, outside the mansion gates, quietly waiting at 10:38 in black pants and a boring looking grey hoodie (hood down) under a coat (because brrr), in her usual black leather gloves in Rogue's style. She looks around quietly with her bag next to her, looking actually inconspicuous.

Gambit has posed:
The car that pulls up beside her is likewise inconspicuous, a sedan, a few years old, a boring brown in color. Remy nods at her slightly as he pulls up next to her and tells her to get in, and to fasten her seat belt. He looks over her clothes and nods slightly, "Not bad. Was half afraid yah'd come out in all black." He offers her his hand, "Yah c'n call me Gambit foh now. Sam tell me yah got some sort of Vibe power?"

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir nods, gets in, buckles up. "I'm a psychometrist. If I touch something, I can do what other people have done when they were carrying or touching it. For awhile, anyways. First time, I opened a combination lock like it wasn't there so I could hide from somebody. Sometimes I get other stuff from them, but it's still unpredictable for me. It's got its downsides. Uhm, nickname would be 'Souvenir', if that's useful."

Gambit has posed:
"Yah more comfortable wit' Souvenir, or Erika?" he asks casually, tilting his head. He nods slightly his brow furrowing. "Rule number one, yah don' use yah powers on de job, 'cept as a last resort. Yah powers like a fingerprint, and dey c'n be traced back ta yah. MAh eyes let me see de infra red spectrum. Ah wear infra red goggles anyway, because I don' wan' ta miss a camera an' dey be wondering, "'Ow dis incredibly 'andsom an' debonair t'ief walkin' round in pich darkness. compared?"

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir considers a moment. "Either one, depending on the sitch. Everybody at the school calls me Erika at the school, but I don't want to mess things up outside of there somehow." She thinks a moment. "I need a better outfit for the name, though. And sure, I try to know some things on my own. I got that much. I know a few things, just not enough things."

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau nods slightly, "Also applies ta what yah goin' aftah... Ah don't know 'ow yah power works, but if yah just beelineing ta yah target when yah gonna raise some eyebrows dare too, non." He drives further, "Yah don' want a flashy costume eit'er. Subtle is de name of de game. Also avoid black, it stands out at night like a sore t'umb. Grey is good. Dark red an' maroon is bettah." He drives into the city, and not to one of the nicer parts. "First lesson is 'ere." He says simply, putting the car in park and heading into a dark alley.

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir shrugs, following. "It's not that I want flashy, it's that I need pockets with skin contact." She quietly takes mental notes, looking around to see what's around, walking with a bit of heel-toe to be a bit softer. At a thought, she reaches into her neckline, extracts a broken chunk of pencil, and tosses it into the trash.

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau spins sharply at the motion, even though he could not possibly have seen it and walks over to the trash retrieving the pencil and giving her a look that is sharp, though not nessicarily angry or cruel. "Rule Numbah 2. Yah nevah leave any piece of yahself be'ind. No mattah 'ow insignificant seeming. Not'ing yah bring wit' yah stays."

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir nods. "'Kay." She looks around a bit, making sure to rest her eyes on anyplace that random rubbish tends to accumulate, in case something turns out to be useful. "What's the plan?"

Gambit has posed:
The Cajun nods slightly, going back to business mode. She made a mistake, he corrected her, she accepted correction. As long as she doesn't make the same mistake again, the matter is done. "Foh now, all yah need ta know is we goin' up." he jumps up effortlessly, grabbing a fire escape and pulling it down for her. "LAdies first." He says, gesturing towards the roof of the eight story building...

Souvenir has posed:
More climbing. Erika knows there's technique to the sort of roof crawling stuff she's seen some people do, but she hasn't been taught it, and she doesn't want to pop a souvenir for this. She takes the ladder and pulls on it a bit to make sure it doesn't slide when she puts her weight on it, and starts making her way up, making sure not to do anything foolish. She's been working out a lot for the past several months, so this is pretty effortless in that regard at least.

The last bit to the roof is a bit of a puzzle, so that part is a clumsy and graceless scramble.

Gambit has posed:
If Remy has an opinion of her technique climbing the building, he doesn't share it at the moment. The Roof is...disgusting honestly. Broken vents, discarded drug and used condoms, even what could possibly be a pile of human waste near one corner... So it might come as a bit of a surprise that Remy moves to to the stairwll wall and leans agienst it, calmly stating. "Now we wait.."

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir nods once and looks around at the stuff left around. This wouldn't be the first time she's been on a rooftop, but it's not a place she's skilled at navigating yet. "For? Debating on cataloging some of this junk just in case they did something useful while they were carrying it around."

Gambit has posed:
A slight smirk, perhaps from a private joke or a personal memory. "Jus' wait chere." He says simply, eyes closing. Thirty minutes pass. An hour. If she does get too close to anything 'interesting', he'd remind her of the no powers rule. At two hours a woman screams, and Remy opens his eyes again, but then closes them a moment later saying, "She got away." Any protest or question met with the simple phrase, "Jus' Wait."

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir waits. She knows how to wait. And she doesn't start inspecting stuff, it's most likely stuff she has a few copies of anyways. The scream is a bit alarming, but she doesn't race off or anything. Sigh, this was less boring before...

Gambit has posed:
At the three hour mark Remy stands and stretches slightly, glancing over at the girl and asks, "So what yah learned chere? An' don' say patience, not only is it de wrong answer but it's kinda obvious an' Ah coul' teach yah patience anywhere."

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir hmms. "Not much since we got to the roof. I'm following your lead, I already knew to do that. Don't flash specials. Don't leave evidence. I need to find out how people get onto roofs. I've been looking at what's around us nearby, but I don't know if that counts."

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau headshakes but says, "Dat's fair. An' Ah respect dat yah admit yah not know. MAh dumb ass tried ta make somet'ing up when Ah was in yah shoes." He walks closer to the edge. "Tell me chere, what do yah 'ear. Yah need ta learn 'ow ta listen. Dis one of de mos' importan' lessons of all...

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir frowns. "Mostly just traffic and wind." She follows you, trying to listen to things in confusion. She has been listening, but without knowing what she's listening for. Different things than she would be listening to on a bus or crowded sidewalk, though, and those are more her jam so far.

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau nods, "Good start, come closer dough." He says calmly. He leans agienst the wall and nods his approval. She's already preforming better then he expected, so he's giving her some leeway. Beneeth the sounds of the city, there are of course other sounds... Someone walking with a sloppy shuffle step... someone snoring lightly...

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir hmms. "I hear somebody moving. Somebody's asleep. Hmmm." She points at her best guess of where they are.

"If I can hear those, there must not be a lot else going on. Unless they're just super close."

Gambit has posed:
He nods slightly, "So listen super close.." He says softly, not wanting to disrupt her... And there is a sound, fainter then the rest about halfway up the building... a soft "thump-thump-thump" timed with the wind... like soft wood lightly banging agienst soft wood...

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir frowns, tilting her head. "Something banging in the wind. Wood on wood, maybe? Something open?" She points at the noise a bit.

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau nods slightly, "And what might 'ave a wood on wood sound, 'alway down a building dat might be slightly open?" he asks in a serious tone, though he expects that once she thinks about it the answer will be rather obvious."

Souvenir has posed:
"Well, probably a window, unless the windows slide. I usually expect them to stay put when they're open, though, and have weather stripping. I guess it could be the blinds inside the window."

Erika ventures closer to the ledge to look at what kind of windows are installed. "I don't know much about windows yet."

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau smiles a bit nods, "More importantly chere, it's our way in." He says simply standing and pushing off the wall, heading back towards the fire escape and towards the window two floors down.

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir follows after, looking around. "'Kay." She looks a bit dubiously that way, trying to make sure she can figure out how to get in and more importantly out. Exits are always more important than entrances.

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau nods slightly, obviously approving of the girl's caution. He stops at the appropriate floor and gestures to the window. It doesn't open onto the fire escape, but it close... though one would have to shimmy agienst the ledge to get to it.

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir hmms, and puzzles about how to reach the window, then cautiously shuffles over to the thing. She makes sure to stop and listen, then peek in before trying to figure out how get in without making too much noise.

That's trickier, and she pauses at the edge, frowning and uncertain how not to make a loud scraping or crashing noise, before looking back to you for guidance.

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau doesn't say anything yet, though he does get right to the edge of the fire escape where, should she slip he should be able to catch her.. probibly, without any trouble. The window itself is filthy, and impossible to see out of or into.

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir pulls the window open to try to look inside. No sense diving through completely blind. Ugh, this part she doesn't know much about, and the lack of technique is worrying. She peers in as best she can, making sure the window noise didn't make more noises happen.

Gambit has posed:
The window is fairly loose in it's frame, which is the reason it was banging slightly, and as a result slips up easy enough. Inside the room is mostly deserted. In fract the only thing in it is a single wooden dining room chair...on top of which is a small gift wrapped present, with a simple gift tag. "From Remy, To Erika Kry-- Kristo-- Kristal-- To Erika.

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir steps through, with the expected scraping foot on windowsill noise, probing with her toe and hoping her foot doesn't land somewhere comically unfortunate. Also that she doesn't fall into the room.

She looks around, then explores a bit, finding the present. It gets carefully tucked into her bag, then she tries to figure out how to crawl out without making a huge noise, making her way back to the fire escape with a bit of noisy scraping sounds.

Gambit has posed:
Remy nods his approval when he sees her coming out, holding his arm out to her to help her make it back across the area to the fire escape. "Yah got it Ah assume." He says smiling, at least once she is back safe on the secured steel.

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir nods. "Package secure. My mom's name is Krista? And I'm not unwrapping this until we're clear. I feel like I made a bunch of noise."

She moves to follow you. "Any other thoughts? Or questions or whatever?"

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau smirks a bit and ahhs slightly, "Jus' one.." He says leading her back in the general direction of the car... Then without any warning whatso ever, her lashes out into an alley, grabbing one thug there and smashing him face first into the side of a building. As the second reaches for a weapon Remy snaps him in the stomach with a hard kick, twists his gun away. The whole thing takes less then five seconds, leaving both men unconscious, one with a broken face the other with a shattered elbow. "So why Ah do dat?" he asks calmly, continuing their stroll and seemingly not even out of breath.

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir tilts her head, relatively unsurprised. "One, witness, two, this is where that scream came from."

She frowns. "I would have expected them to have moved after that."

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau smirks a bit and tips his head in a bit of a salute, acknowledging the point and holding her car door open for her before getting in himself. "Yah got allot of potential." He acknowledges as they start to drive. "So Ah 'ave ta ask, 'ow far yah willing ta take dis?"

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir hmms. "No idea how deep the rabbit hole goes, yet. I was at least a ways in last week, and back is a pretty bad option. It depends on if I start seeing pitchforks and flames up ahead, I guess?"

Gambit has posed:
Remy LeBeau nods simply, "It can be a deep dark place... but den Wonderland not exactly de most well lit of places eit'er, now is it?" he asks as he pulls out onto the highway and begins driving back towards the mansion.

Souvenir has posed:
Erika Kristasdottir nods, digging the present out. "As for the present, let's see what we have here?" She peels the tape away to free the present from the paper, looking it over. Hmm.

Gambit has posed:
Inside is a small leather case, not unlike a pocket protector in design, though what it holds is not ink pens, but a variety of lock picks, spoons, and tension wrenches of various sizes. To those who know, the kit itself probibly costs about $500. "WE start lesson two tomorrow aftah classes." he says simply.
