Date of Scene: 08 February 2019
Location: Unknown
Synopsis: Emma goes on a recruiting drive for new Staff.
Cast of Characters: Emma Frost, Vincent Black

Emma Frost has posed:
The school was on lock down. After the explosion in the gymnasium, the teachers and done their protocols and locked classrooms, turning off lights and hunkering down with students. In time, the police and emergency services arrived. Most of the school was evacuated but the gymnasium was the only room they had not entered.

That was where the suspect was.

The boy within had exhibited some sort of ability that caused the entire structure to shake. There were cracks in the exterior although there was no seismic activity at the moment. Within, there were many children hiding under bleachers or in locker rooms.

The higher ups in the police units were discussing if SWAT should be called in. The town was small. They didn't have the people or the training to deal with this type of threat.

Vincent Black has posed:
The unmarked squad car pulled up around the same time as all the others where rolling up to the school. Obviously a cop from another town trying to do his best to help, answering the call from some distance away. The salt and peppered haired cop climbs out of the car and nods to the uniformed cop who's eyeballing him. "Live not too far, that's why I'm here so quick." Vincent says with a frown as he looks to the school and starts to walk in during all the hustle and scurrying to get as many people as they can out.

It's surprisingly easy to get into a place if you act like you belong there. Vincent makes his way to the gym and takes a deep breath as he peeks into the windows. The carnage is all too familiar, but he pushes those thoughts away before he starts to open the door and walk in.

Emma Frost has posed:
Inside the gym, sitting in the middle of the floor, is a boy of about 13. He is sitting cross legged but has his knees pulled up to his chest. He is rocking in place. His hair is a bright red and he's rather small for his age, on the thin side as well. A prime description for someone who likely is bullied a lot.

As he hears the door, his head snaps up and he looks toward where Vincent is entering. "Get out!" Even as it says it, the ground under the building begins to rumble as though it is coming to life. "I don't want to hurt anyone!"

Outside, a white Rolls pulls up and parks well away from the police activity. In the backseat, a woman in white glances to the chaos outside as the drive moves around to open her door for her. She had come to this town to speak to the parents of a young man. It turned out they were not a good fit for her Academy, and she had wiped the encounter from their minds to ensure secrecy for herself and her school. The many police passing had caught her attention and she scanned the mind of one officer as they passed on the roadway. Perhaps this trip wouldn't be wasted after all. She stepped out of the car, letting her mind scan outward to find the cause of the chaos.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent stops near the door and holds up his hands, large and yet uncaloused, odd seeing as he is a cop. Should have some scars or something, but nothing. He says from where he is by the door. "Listen kid, I don't want to get hurt, but we both know someone is going to talk to you sooner or later. Or you're going to end up hurting a lot more people than you want to." Vincent says with a straight face as he takes a single step closer, nearing the line of the basketball court, but he doesn't cross it. After a moment Vincent changes the line of thought. "What's your name kid?"

Emma Frost has posed:
"C-Claude." He manages to get it out but he is keeping a wary eye on Vincent as the world continues to tremble around them. Then slowly, it stills again as a bit of dust falls from one of the cracks in the ceiling. "I didn't mean for it it happen again. I tried not to be angry but when they shoved me..." He lost control of his emotions and this was the result.

Outside, the discussions are getting more heated on what to do as the rumbling had started. Then suddenly, it stopped. Everyone went completely still in place as though they were statues.

The woman in white began to walk toward the gym, unnoticed by the frozen officers.

Vincent Black has posed:
"You shoved them back, but not with your hands." Vincent says, finishing the thought but with a question mark on the end. He doesn't sound upset, he sounds like he's telling the kid how it is, nothing more or less. "I used to get shoved." Vincent says, taking another step, his heavy shoe falling on the white paint of the basketball markers. "I still do." Vincent says, unaware of what's going on outside, nor does he seem to care anyways, as he's not on duty and he's completely breaking protocols.

Emma Frost has posed:
Claude looks at Vincent in surprise, taking in his appearance and size. "You're lying. You don't get picked on." He does unfold an arm to wave a hand in Vincent's direction. It's a good thing in that he is distracted from his own misery. The world remains still. "Bad guys probably are the ones that shove you now, huh?" It's conversational, curious.

Outside, the woman reaches the door to the gym and is about to open it when she feels the minds within. Those that are hiding are given instructions to leave. Now. Many take exits out of the building, coming out of the closets and locker room and walking outside in an orderly fashion. None go near the main room where Claude and Vincent are speaking. A few people are still there under the bleachers but the rest of the building is now clear. Then...she waits. Listening to the pair mentally and prepared to act should it become necessary.

Vincent Black has posed:
"They seem like bad guys to me, but there's really no such thing. People are more complex than that. They all think they're the good guy in their own mind. Even if what they're doing might be considered wrong." Vincent says, maybe something he said to Hope when she was younger, or something he's learned since that time, but he does his best not to dwell on it, he did his best with her, he's going to do his best with Claude and with the people still in the gym.

Emma Frost has posed:
"The bullies are bad guys." Claude seems certain of that as he lowers his hands to his sides, body language showing he is becoming more open as he talks to Vincent. "Unless they aren't bad guys. You think they believe they are good?" He ponders that a long moment, taking his time to work through it. "Someone should tell them it isn't good."

Vincent Black has posed:
"Someone should tell them that." Vincent says, finally taking another step closer to Claude, but he's still pretty far away. "Now they do bad things, but that doesn't make them bad guys, remember, those don't exist. They're usually just good people who don't know what to do, so they do bad things." Vincent says, feeling a bit silly now, but that doesn't show.

Emma Frost has posed:
He might feel silly but he's getting through to Claude. He boy stretches his legs out in front of him, unfolding from that rocking position to look at Vincent more openly. "Someone should." He glances down then around the room at the mess. "I'm going to be in trouble now, huh?"

Vincent Black has posed:
"Not as much as you might think." Vincent says and even gives the kid a small smirk, "But people will be glad you're okay and that everyone else is okay. They're going to walk to talk to you a lot more, but they're really just trying to help you is all." Vincent says, taking another step to be about half way to the kid and he offers his hand to the kid. "Come on, I'm sure your parents are worried and waiting for you outside. Bet you'd get a nice hug from your mom."

Emma Frost has posed:
"He would indeed," comes a woman's voice from the doorway. She has stepped inside finally, now that the boy is standing and putting a trusting hand in Vincent's. The boy looks at her but there are no tremors. She doesn't look like a cop. Or he has it under control.

"I have another option for the boy if you would both hear me out. His mother hasn't arrived quite yet. She should be here in about five minutes."

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent does what he would have done if someone had said the same things towards Hope at Claude's age, He steps forward and his hand stays back, he puts himself between the stranger and the child. He's done that more times than he can imagine. "I don't speak for the kid or his parents, so it's best for you to just wait outside and speak to his parents, miss..." He trails off, allowing for the newcomer to introduce herself.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Frost." She doesn't seem bothered by his protecting the child. It doesn't show on her face, but she finds that to be admirable. It is something she can respect. "Emma Frost. I am the Headmistress of a school for children with gifts." She flips a card out of her pocket and holds it in Vincent's direction between index and middle finger. "I will be glad to discuss it with the mother when she arrives, but I would like to know what Claude things first." She kept her pale blue eyes locked on Vincent's. "You protect mutants." That sounds a little surprised. "A caretaker for those who cannot protect themselves yet. I may have a business proposition for you."

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent takes the card and slips it into the interior breast pocket of his leather jacket, he'll examine it later, now isn't the best time. "Claude can answer you himself, but -" Vincent stops and his eyes squint towards Emma. The name is incredibly familiar, she's quite well known, and the time traveller does recall her from working with Xavier's so much and with other mutants in the future. He never met her himself in person, but he's heard people talk about her a lot. The fact she knew Claude's name without asking is what really set Vincent off. He'd rather talk about business like this away from the child, but that's not how things are. "What kind of proposition are you offering?"

Emma Frost has posed:
"I recently have returned to the Academy that I started, and I am seeking reliable faculty. People I can trust to take care of my students and keep them safe from those who would do harm." Emma Frost's tone is polite though she speaks briskly, with a Bostonian accent which gives away her birthplace. "I suspect you are a man with that skill set." She didn't even peek. She's on her best behavior. "I would be glad to give you a tour of the campus, let you see the facility before you make a decision. You could meet some of the students. It is a small, private school so we can keep the nature of the location secretive." She glances back to Claude. "We teach mutants, and others who have gifts, how to survive in the world and control their powers. There are other schools who have a different viewpoint. Our is to use our abilities to improve our lives."

Vincent Black has posed:
"So, what, you want me to be like, a security guard?" Vincent says, his ancient eyes lingering on Emma's in a way that's probably unusual for her. In that he sees her as a person and not an object, or anything so crass. He's kind of stoic and aloof almost. "Sorry miss Frost, but I'm not a rent a cop, nor am I some vigilantee in some stupid cape." The man says, not explaining he's not a real cop either. In fact, he's been in here far too long and should be trying to get out and back into the hole he was hiding in.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Nothing so base," Emma says, the distaste evident in her tone. "I seek a Head of Security for my facility. One that I hire, not one brought in by my investors." She would rather have someone she trusts instead of the Hellfire Club. "You aren't an officer here. The ones outside have never seen or heard of you. Though they believed your story during the heat of the moment, I am not so easily fooled. Yet you come here, put yourself in danger, to help a boy that has control issues with his powers. That is admirable. I want that for my students, for them to know they have someone they can rely on handling security on the campus. This is not some boarding school where people send their children to get them out of their hair. It is a premiere school for powered children." She tilts her head. "All of this I am discerning from looking at you and dealing with you. I haven't even tried to look into your mind. Yes, I am a telepath. A very good one," she adds. "Tell me, if I looked in your mind, would I be wrong about my beliefs?"

Vincent Black has posed:
"Security is not what I worry about." Vincent says in response to her question about what she believes about him. "You may be good at reading people Frost, but I'm not as average as I look." The healer says, thinking of the war he's lived through three times, and the people he's known and loved and lost from his very long life. "I could be more than just security, but this isn't a job interview. Is it?" Vincent asks, taking a moment to glance to Claude and then back to Emma.

Emma Frost has posed:
"No, it is not. It is a rescue," Emma says. She does look to Claude again, giving him a smile that is much softer than what she usually shares with people. "My school has students just like you. With powers. Some of them don't know how to control them, some do. You would be able to learn about them, how to control them, how to find your place in the world. Would you like that, Claude?"

Vincent Black has posed:
Claude takes a sidestep to stand next to Vincent and he nods, "Yes! I would like that but, there aren't any bad guys there at your school, are there?" The young man asks.
Vincent looks down at the child and frowns slightly but he interjects before Emma can, "You'll have to get the okay from your mother first Claude." The former cop says with a look to Emma and a slight twitch of his eyes briefly. No words are spoken as he starts to walk towards the main doors out of the gym to outside and walk past Emma in the process.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Not in the way that you have here. There are some that may be a bit rude, but we will take care of them together. We'll be sure to tell them that they should not be mean, Emma promises.

As Vincent heads out the door, he will find that the officers are frozen, like wax models in a museum. It is a hint of the power Emma can wield, revealed to him. Then the men start to move again as though they were never paused, reacting with surprise to see Vincent emerging with the boy. The woman in white follows but walks away. The officers don't seem to see her.

Vincent Black has posed:
A woman comes running up to Claude and Vincent and she drops to her knees to wrap her arms around the boy and Vincent takes the moment to look towards Emma and he has a few questions that he will not wait on. He follows the woman at a steady pace. He doesn't raise his voice or anything to get her attention, she can freeze people and she's a telepath. That's all he knows, they could be related but he's not sure how deep her powers go, and he's not going to push it. Yet.

Emma Frost has posed:
As mother and son hug, Emma glances over her shoulder with a pleased smile on her face. Then she continues, walking past the police line. Oddly, the officers now are not reacting to Vincent either, allowing him free passage out of that place. If he chose, he could leave.

A few officers approach Claude and his mother, beginning to discuss what has happened. So far, it doesn't seem to be them dragging the boy away at least. Just conversation.

As she reaches the car, Emma turns, looking at Vincent with the arch of a single eyebrow in silent question.

Vincent Black has posed:
"You're a telepath, right, and you just happen to find me, someone you think would make a perfect ... security guard at your school." Vincent begins, as he stops a few feet away from Emma, enough to not encroach her space, but close enough he can converse without eavesdroppers. "I don't believe you. What are you really after?"

Emma Frost has posed:
"Head of Security," Emma corrects him automatically with a wave of her hand as though dismissing the rest of his concerns. "You don't believe in coincidence? That a hand of Fate took a role in bringing us together and helping Claude in his moment of need?" Seeing that he definitely doesn't, she breathes a faint sigh. "I was in town on other business. The police activity piqued my interest. Thus, I did a little prying and learned the situation here. I followed, much like an ambulance chasing lawyer, in the hopes that I could help the child. Instead, I find someone already has that well in hand. You run to danger, you helped the child and I do not believe it is simply because you are an officer. I have been in the minds of the others," she nods her head in the direction of the police presence. "They were not of the same mindset. They had wanted to call in their SWAT team and potentially kill their target if he did not submit. Which we both know Claude would not have remained calm in the face of gun barrels aimed at his head."

Vincent Black has posed:
"Then what makes me so special as to not look?" Vincent says with a finger taping the side of his head, he's basically inviting her in, "Again, security is not something I'm going to be good at." Vincent says, not sure how else to explain it without saying he's a fighter, he's a warrior, he's a soldier, he's a leader, a father, a scared and confused time traveler. A man with no family and no concern while bearing the weight of the world in fear and worry. "Security is not what I want to be doing." Vincent says as he starts to turn around and give up on speaking with the blonde.

Emma Frost has posed:
"I have not looked in your mind out of courtesy. I felt it would make a bad impression for a new business relationship." Apparently, she's not one to take no for an answer in this type of a situation. For a moment, she does look to him and she almost reaches out. "If you wish me to look, you have but to say the word. It would simplify things. All of this talking gets bothersome."

She focuses those blue eyes on him as he turns to walk away. "Then what do you /want/ to be doing?" Emma asks simply.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent stops mid step and looks back to Emma, "I'd like to change things for the better." Vincent says with a sigh under his breath. He turns back to Emma and says fully, "Then look at all of me and tell me what I want, because I don't know myself." The tired man says with a lift of his shoulders in a heavy shrug.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Then we agree on that," Emma says to his response. She doesn't have to be given permission twice. Immediately, she reaches out to touch his mind with her own. She lets him sense her presence, not hiding it from him. Carefully she explores his mind, his memories. She feels the lifetimes that weigh on his shoulders. She feels the pain and sadness, the fear and worry of what may come. Three times he has seen the worst. "There are those who believe co-existence must be gained by bowing to the whims of the humans. There are others who think we should rule over them." She shakes her head a bit, letting him have a glimpse of what she feels as she speaks. "I want them to have the tools to live if there is peace and survive if there is not. I want them to be able to make a world for themselves. I want them to grow and learn and perhaps come up with an answer that is evading the rest of us. That's what I want, Mr. Black. I am willing to use my skills to help them gain that. Will you?"

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent looks down, and asks, using his words because he doesn't know better. "How can a killer like me help anyone? My own daughter isn't more than a weapon. I failed her." He whispers, not on the verge of breaking down, he's past that, he is more asking for help on how to be something better.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Mr. Black, from what I have seen, you have helped thousand through the course of three lifetimes. You may be blinded to that, but I am not." Emma's voice softens a bit, more sincere. "Join my school. Help the students in whatever way you think is best. There are those who might try to act against us. I need a warrior--not a killer--to keep that from happening. I need someone who can teach them more than I have ever experienced."

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent looks up at Emma, a hint of fire in his eyes that had not been there before. "Alright Frost." Vince says, "Give me some time to think about it." The former cop then takes a moment to look over the car for a moment and he takes a step away. "I'm sure you have a lot more work to get to." Vincent says, before awkwardly walking away towards his own car.

Emma Frost has posed:
"You have my number," Emma says, reminding him of the card he tucked away. She turns back to her car, the driver coming around just in time to open the door for her to step inside. The door closes. Not that she is behind tinted glass, she allows a satisfied smile. As though she got away with something.
