Cast of Characters: Hawkeye (Bishop), Daredevil

Hawkeye (Bishop) has posed:
Kate's departure from the restaurant was rather more abrupt than she'd intended, but Oscar's story had been entirely more information than she'd expected. More importantly, it was so vastly unlike the Jessica Jones she knew that Kate was taken aback.

Tiny bits and pieces of things were all falling into place. The moods. The drinking. The abject disgust for the Avengers. The abrupt departures in the middle of discussions and otherwise friendly gatherings..

Frankly, Kate didn't know what to think. But she did know she needed to confer with Matt, and more, they needed to get to the bottom of this man in purple thing, because other than what had happened to JJ, Kate was pretty sure nobody wanted someone like him wandering around willy nilly doing whatever he pleased. Or, more to the point, making everyone else do whatever he pleased.

Once out of the restaurant, she makes her way to the vehicle, getting inside and rotely buckling up before even looking to see if Matt were still there.

Daredevil has posed:
As it turned out Matt was already inside. Having stepped from the alley and slid into the car just as Kate was leaving the Royal Grill.

"Hey, I'm here," he says when she looks his way, "Let's go."

Matt was processing what he heard too, it was so unlike Jess that he wasn't sure what to think. Also, like Kate he needed to know if the man in purple was out there somewhere.

Hawkeye (Bishop) has posed:
It's a numb Kate that drives them away, with no particular destination in mind - sheer happenstance being the only reason they find themselves parked outside the building that Fogwell's is in.

"What the heck? Did you hear - no, you weren't.. Wait - maybe? Did you hear what I heard?"

Kate exhales heavily. "Uh.. here, or upstairs?"

Daredevil has posed:
Matt was stunned too. What Oscar had told them had implications and went to explaining why Jess was the way she was, even if Matt didn't want to think about them.

When they arrive at Fogwells it takes him a second to realize where they were his distraction keeping him blind to his senses until he came back into the moment.

"Yeah, I heard," he says opening the car door. "Upstairs," he answers as he leads the way into the building and up to the gym on the second floor.

Hawkeye (Bishop) has posed:
Kate is silent until they're behind the Fogwell's door, where she expressively gestures, "It was like listening to some sci-fi story. Only I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts if I start pulling names and reports the story is going to hold up." Even if it was likely one of those stories that got buried in the depths of paperwork for all the reasons.

Kate suddenly realizes that if Matt heard the man in purple story, he also heard everything she'd said and done, her cheeks a sudden scarlet as she groans. "Oh, and you heard everything else, too. Oh god. I feel so dirty, like I need several long, HOT showers." She shudders. "The worst part is he ate it up because people really act like that."

Another shudder. "Now I need a drink to boot."

Daredevil has posed:
Matt leads the way inside, and when the door's locked he sighs and slumps against it. "Tell me about it," he says of it sounding like some sci-fi story. But then they lived on a world peopled with at least a few aliens so, he guessed they should expect that sort of thing. Still... a guy with such casual mind control...

"Yeah I believe it, Jess started telling me some of the story before she kicked me out, so, odds are good it's real."

The other bit is met with a bit of a smile he can feel Kate's cheeks heat with his senses and he can't help but tease, "So what'd you do with the scotch that threw him?" he asks as he tosses his cane to stand against the ring then heads to the medical bags at the back of the room. He unzips one and after a little digging he pulls out a bottle of Four Roses bourbon from one of the bags and walks back to Kate.

"I stocked up in case Jess needed it," he says offering her the bottle. "And if you really need that shower, they're through there," he jerks a thumb at the washrooms. Though given how cold this place was right now he was definitely joking. Kate was likely going to freeze before she got clean.

Hawkeye (Bishop) has posed:
"You don't want to know," Kate mutters about what she did to offend Oscar. In fact, she wasn't sure where she'd gotten the idea from in the first place. (Liar, her brain told her. She told her brain to shut up. Only less politely.) "Just a thing a friend showed me. It didn't work. But back to Jess.. she really started to tell you those things?"

"That was.. like worse than creepy. Like.. like.." Kate shudders again. "You don't think he.. you know, do you?"

Kate totally relying on vagueness to convey the worst place her mind could go to that didn't end in dying. "Like.. is that why she's like she is? Why she became a PI in the first place?"

Kate has to be honest, cold or not in here, she's considering those showers, and wishing her brain had driven them to Matt's place. Why here, she had no clue, but she was grateful for the bourbon, taking a swig and offering the bottle back to Matt. Just in case he wanted something to wash the disgusting down with, too.

Daredevil has posed:
Matt was willing to let that question go, probably for the best if he didn't pry though he can't help but raise a brow at the friend bit.

"Yeah, started to, got overwhelemed then kicked me out of her place," Matt explains. "Hearing the story, I can understand why she didn't want to keep going."

"I don't want to speculate," is Matt's answer, but if the first place the Man in Purple's mind went was strip tease it really did paint a picture of what else might have happened.

"Possibly," he says of all of this being the reason Jessica was the way she was. He didn't know her whole story but what he knew suggested her life before this hadn't been great either.

He takes the bourbon when offered, swallowing down a healthy swig then passes it back. "The thing that worries me is if that thing is still out there and what it might be doing right now."

Hawkeye (Bishop) has posed:
"Me too," Kate says of worry, taking the bottle back and swigging again. "Would people even know? Like, do they wake up later and know what they did, but not why? Or is it just.. gone from their memory?" Of the two, the second, Kate believes, is more dangerous. People doing things that they don't remember doing, and someone out there making them do those things.

She takes another swallow before handing the bottle back. "So, where do we go from here?"

Daredevil has posed:
Matt considers the option, the second is by far more dangerous but the first seems more likely, "She wouldn't be able to tell me the story if she forgot," Matt reasoned, "So I think she knows what she did when he was in control."

The thought made him sick, it would for anyone but Jess was his friend, one of his closest friends. It made hot rage burn in his gut.

"We need to find out about the Man in Purple, track him down without him noticing us doing it. I don't think we want to that guy learning our names before we learn his."

Hawkeye (Bishop) has posed:
Kate arches a brow. "You think?" Because it would be very bad for the man in purple to find out about either of them before they found him.

Matt has a point about the remembering, though. "I guess? Just, okay. So, he makes her do those things. Why? If that's the kind of person he is, he wouldn't just stop. So why aren't we hearing more about him, or people doing things that they didn't want to do but were forced to."

Mind control, Kate has decided, is not a very nice thing. And this from someone who considered herself fairly talented at lies and manipulation.

"He could have wanted her to remember. That or there's a specific reason he chose her. I still think it odd he'd have stopped."
