Cast of Characters: Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez), 343

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Its late in the evening in Poseidonis. Most of the locals have already headed off to sleep or at least be with family. Not all of them though. Not all of them are so fortunate after all. One such person is in an arena area, training. Lorena Marquez, aka Aquagirl is training. Why is she here, training so late? Well because she wants to be at her best! Why else would she train like this?

She lets out several loud shouts as she makes very strong thrusts with her trident. Its of course not Arthur's Trident. That would likely land her imprisoned or worse if she was training with that. Nope she's using a traditional one. One used by Atlantean warriors for fighting.

Tempest (343) has posed:
It's been some time since Garth returned to Poseidonis, his duties as Ambassador to the UN for the country as well as his duties as a hero on the surface end up taking up much of his available time. Adding to that there is the whole fact that most born Atlanteans seem to have issue with his eyes it can be something of a hassle to come to the capital city. Sure there are those who know he is a hero, that his association with Arthur in the past, and his history as Royalty of the somewhat recently annexxed city of Shayeris and the Idylic Atlanteans has softened some of that but most normal people just see his eyes and get as far from him as they can without being rude. Even when he was going to classes at the school for sorcery it didn't really change things that much but... duty calls, and Garth finds himself returning to his 'homeland' of a sort.

It helps that he can get to and from Atlantis faster than most, with perhaps a handful of individuals who can swim faster than he can even when he's not using his magic to help him get around but once within the domed city Garth is restricted to swimming around like a normal Atlantean, which can make for long uncomfortable stretches through the city as he swims from the portal to the city and towards the training centers. The fact that it's so late does help quite a bit, less people around to contend with. As he passes through the training grounds though he senses something unusual, at least to him, and changes his course over towards the Arena where Lorena is training so late at night.

Garth doesn't interrupt her training when he arrives into the Arena proper instead finding a place to watch where he won't distract her. The choice of weapons is noted of course but he waits for her to finish her sequence before swimming closer and finally speaking, in Atlantean just to see her reaction of course: "Good evening." He begins with, "Care for a sparring partner?" He gestures and water twists in his hand, coalescing and forming into a trident of solid ice which he grips easily. Placing the but of the trident on the ground he swims down to 'stand' at the edge of the Arena with a tiny smile curving the corner of his lips as he studies her even still.

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
The young hispanic girl isn't bad with the weapon. In fact she's pretty damn good. her motions are fluid. Each thrust with the weapon strong. She goes through a kata, one that she has done countless times. It is as fluid as the water all around her. She's got her mind set on what she's doing. Its like a dance, One she's actually enjoying it seems.

Then there is a voice that rings out. She quickly flips her trident and plants it at her side. "Oh! Hey! I didn't expect anyone to be out this late." When he offers to spar with her, she gives a smile. Then he starts using magic.

It takes her a moment to think and then she smirks, "Sure. Lets do it." She quickly flourishes her trident across her body and goes into a fighting stance. "Ready." She smiles a little.

Tempest (343) has posed:
Water can slow people down, it can interrupt their flow, push against them, and make their movements exagerated. Then there are Atlanteans who are strong enough to not give a damn and to use the water to their advantage to help their balance and flow. Where that leaves Atlantean magicians who specialize in water magic is up for debate. Either way Garth has had plenty of training underwater, since he's spent the majority of his life beneath the surface, and when he received DRIFT training. Still he bows his head politely and formally, "You seem to be adjusting well." Garth comments as he moves out into the arena proper, "I know what a large change it can be, coming here, when you're used to something very different." He smiles wryly, "I was practically raised by sharks myself."

As he moves though Garth starts to spin the ice trident he's made, cutting through the water with it as easily as if he were spinning it in the air. Turning to the side he presents his left, and unarmed side, to Lorena as he tucks the trident behind his back with the tines of ice pointing away from her. Lifting his left hand he gestures in an open invitation, "When you are ready."

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena Marquez smiles and nods. Quickly she takes off. She may not be magically trained but she definitely has had training for using this weapon. She quickly darts low, targeting Garth's legs. She isn't thrusting. No she's using the shaft of the weapon to try to come in behind them. Then with a quick motion she plants the trident and launches herself toward him.

Tempest (343) has posed:
"I guess I should have asked if you wanted any rules." Garth says as he watches her come in, studying her style and her movements. When the trident haft comes down behind his legs he raises an eyebrow briefly but his smile grows a little bit more. Rather than move away from the charging woman he moves towards her, cutting the distance quickly to change the point of impact to be much sooner than it might otherwise be. Fortunately he isn't trying to match his strength with hers, at least not yet... He does though plant his feet and spins just enough to have her charging in towards the rounded butt of his ice trident if she doesn't change her course!

"Very aggressive. You've been taking lessons from Arthur." Garth says with a wider smile, his violet eyes sparkling with mirth.

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena Marquez smirks, and quickly spins around. "Of course! Can't call yourself Aquagirl without training with Arthur." She giggles a little. Her gaze does catch those violet eyes. They do cause a bit of a distraction. Not because of some strange issue with violet eyes. No because... They might be rather awesome to see!

She snaps back into her her state of mind. She begins circling him. Her gaze is not on his weapon. Its on his body. She's watching for cues.

Tempest (343) has posed:
Tempest is if anything, patient, unlike Arthur or many other Atlanteans he doesn't have the desire or need to simply rush into battle and overpower his enemies. Instead he waits, sensing the water around him and how it shifts to Lorena's movements. "Do you like it? Being Aquagirl? I can't imagine it was an easy adjustment period, and by that I mean Arthur. He can be... difficult to be around at times." To put it mildly. For whatever reason though Garth just lets her circle, waiting and studying her as well. He does shift his position again though so that he is in the same position he was for the start of their spar. "I am surprised you didn't try to grab onto the end of my trident and use it for leverage to increase your power." He mentions conversationally.

As for those eyes though, when she is in sight his eyes remain on her completely, entirely focused on her with remarkable intensity. He'll wait though until she circles back around and if she does he'll drop his gaze towards her chest, not to check her out (well, not only), but to try and make her think he is distracted by her physical charms... which are impressive.

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena Marquez laughs as she continues circling. She coubles back the other way. She's actually planning her next actions. "Its really different. I'm trying to get accustomed to Surface life again. I've been down here for almost half my life now. I sorta forgot how things work up there ya know? I guess thats where I can relate a little more. I guess I have a bit more in common with Arthur. We both were on the surface before we wound up under water. Sure he's a king now. I'm just a girl trying to make the best of all of that."

Then she gets an idea. She keeps moving and when he looks down she just waits. No rushing in with this one. Her attention is on his body as a whole. Not on his eyes. Him looking down isn't him moving so she doesn't react. Still her mind is elsewhere. ~Come to me my friends. I need a distraction.~ She sends out to the fish in the area. Moments later, Several brightly colored fish come swimming around the two of them.

Tempest (343) has posed:
When the fish come in Tempest frowns a touch but it's just a touch, mainly because they are doing their level best to try and distract him from the view... that and he's never liked schools of fish, to many bad memories but he doesn't let that affect him to much... or tries not to at least. ~ Please do not interfere... if you would be so kind as to not interrupt I would appreciate it.~ He asks the fish which puts them in the awkward situation of trying to obey two telepathic Atlanteans which causes them to hesitate as well. "I enjoy the surface world. When I am there I can usually worry less about appearances."

When the fish slow though Tempest finally makes a move, and it's a /move/ where he puts on quite a display of speed. Accelerating in a burst there's a shockwave of water that sucks in and then explodes outwards from where Tempest was but to most he'd simply be... gone. Those who can track something swimming at nearly supersonic speed might track Tempest as he launches upwards and then down in an arc, coming to a stop on the other side of Lorena and then accelerating again to create a second shockwave of water that is intended to capture Lorena between both and possibly stun her right as he is approaching again with a sweep of his trident haft to try and knock her off her 'feet' and disrupt her swimming so that hopefully she can't escape the shockwaves.

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena isn't exactly slow in the water. In fact she is fairly quick. So when Tempest takes off, She is keeping an eye on what he is attempting. With a burst of speed all her own she swings her her trident around in attempt to catch him at her back. She misses. "Then he is off again and attempts to catch her feet. She swims upward. The shockwaves rattle her just a little. Its enough to throw her off, her evasion is narrow but for the most part she isn't knocked out.

She does hear whats going on. Poor fishy friends. They are just all sorts of confused. "I've sorta forgotten a lot about life up there. Its nice but... Difficult to fit in. Especially when your name is pretty much dead. When Sub Diego sank, they declared that I was dead with most everyone. Not fun."

Tempest (343) has posed:
The fish definitely do not handle the shockwaves as easily as Lorena does, the brightly colored things getting buffeted by the water and sent 'flying' away from the pair and probably stunned where they float listlessy until they recover. "I can't really relate." Tempest admits, tracking Lorena again as the water settles around them again. "Civilization at all is new to me in many ways. I spent over half my life living alone with only the ghost of a long dead mage to keep me company. Not the best father figure but I wouldn't be here without him." He swims up though to be on even 'footing' with Lorena and spins his trident one more time before flipping it behind him again, presenting the sideways profile once more. "The trick to fitting in anywhere is to just be yourself. There's no real way to please everyone, so trying is an effort in futility."

He gestures for her to come at him again though with his non-trident wielding hand. "I suppose I should ask how serious this exercise is. How 'real' do you want it to be?"

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena Marquez smiles, "It seems we are talking more then sparring and that to me is alright. I won't try to hurt you and vice versa." She smiles a little and does come at him. This time she is using a different approach though. She's using her trident for defense, ready to block any incoming attacks with it. Her dominant hand is swings forward with a quick haymaker. Then quickly, she darts back to get out of strike range.

"Be myself. Its a little difficult to do that anymore. Heck some days I don't even know who that is. I think a part of me didn't survive when I wound up a child of both worlds." She shrugs.Quickly she takes a more defensive stance and this time she gestures for him to come at her.

Tempest (343) has posed:
"No reason we can't do both... it's not like I'm going to lose my breath. It's a high art, being able to fight and talk at the same time. Without it we wouldn't get in so many great one liners while we're fighting the super-villain of the week and dismantling their attempts at villainy." Tempest says with a smile as he moves just enough to avoid the haymaker, judging the way her punch shifts the water to try and determine her strength. "Not hurting someone is easy..." He says afterwards, studying her position and how she's using the trident so when she gestures for him to come in he smiles and gestures with his left hand. An orb of blue light surrounds it and he twists his fingers in an arcane symbol before clenching his hand into a fist and when he does the water around Lorena starts to grow... thicker, heavier, compressing and beginning to heat up. Not enough to hurt, but enough to generate a field of bubbles around her constantly streaming upwards and churning the water to make it almost impossible to see.

It's then that Tempest bolts forwards, suddenly bursting through the cloud of bubbles with his left hand outstretched. He doesn't try to grab Lorena, instead he tries to grab her trident that she is holding in defense and yank her over towards him so there is absolutely no space between them if he should succeed: "Boo." He says with a smile.

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena Marquez nods, "True." She laughs a little. Then magic comes into play. "You've got me at a disadvantage with that!" SHe laughs, Suddenly she can feel more pressure around her. The force of the bubbles pushing her up. Her own physiology is not much different then an Atlantean's or more closely like Arthur's, all things considered. She fights the rising tide. Its hard to see. Her eyes close and she focuses on her hearing.

When Tempest bolts in, He does successfully grab her trident. She snickers to him. Then with a lightning fast move all her own, she flips her held trident over her head, attempting to send Tempest sailing through the water. "Boo yourself!" She snickers a little. "I was actually talking with Arthur just the other day about maybe checking out the college, see if I can take a few classes maybe. Maybe try my hand at a little magic. I probably don't have a magical bone in my body though!"

Tempest (343) has posed:
With as much weight as Lorena can move Tempest gets flung through the water but he doesn't let go of the trident at all, yanking it from her grip as he gets flung away using her own force to help pull it free. He might have gone flying out of the arena altogether but he is good at adjusting his own speeds in the water, even when not using magic but he is laughing all the while and he catches himself with a powerful kick and flips about. "You've got me at a disadvantage because I don't know how much force to use without hurting you." He says with a smile, "I also think I might get in trouble if I did something that broke part of the city..." He admits and swims over towards her and offers her the trident back.

"I don't know if you can." Tempest admits, "You weren't born one of us... and I don't know if the science used to alter you would be capable of giving you access to our magic. It couldn't hurt to try though, it's not like all Atlanteans know magic so there is no shame in not." He considers, "We really should have like, wrestled to determine our relative strengths before we started bringing weapons into play." He says seriously, completely oblivious to what he's just suggested.

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena Marquez laughs a little. "Well, I can toss a car around with ease. I've also swarm the Mariana trench without being hurt so, I think I am fairly strong. Not to mention helped deal with an oil tanker recently. Supergirl suggested getting me into the Titans. I wouldn't mind that. I think it would be nice. Maybe actually training with more people our age would be a good thing." She laughs a little over the broken city thing, "Yeah I think that might peev Arthur just a little.

Then the conversation goes to Magic. "You're right about that. Its really awkward to be honest. Half the time I dunno where I fit in everything. I just help out where I can and hope for the best."

Tempest (343) has posed:
"I wouldn't be against it." Tempest says honestly letting his ice trident disperse back into normal water. "I know it can be rough being out of water but at least it would give you the opportunity to start socializing with surface people on equal footing." He hmms thoughtfully, "But... I can't guarantee your safety. When you're out there with Arthur, fighting the good fight, anything feels possible because he's so strong and experienced. We won't have that cushion. M'gann is incredibly powerful, but she's not had the experience we've had. Same with Supergirl really. It's something to think about before you make a decision to try and join or not but I will definitely put your name forwards if that's what you want."

Tempest smiles, "But you'd at least be on equal footing with the rest of us." He reaches up and rubs the tip of his nose lightly, "I wouldn't mind having you around too... you know... for company. They don't get what it's like being from here."

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena Marquez smiles and nods, "I've met M'gann. She's really nice. I actually brought her here. We were testing her shapeshifting and how accurate it would mimic us. We didn't enter the city because... you know how it is. Supergirl is really nice too. Arthur wasn't with me for the Tanker. Or for the bank robbery that resulted in a bunch of dolpins playing with criminals. It was funny! Oh umm Raven too. She's cool. Kinda withdrawn." She smiles and nods. "I'd appreciate that."

She nods, "Yeah. I know I can't be out of the water for too long but There are ways to deal with that right? Its not like Water is in short supply on this planet. It would be nice." She grabs her trident and quickly slings it to her back.

Tempest (343) has posed:
"Absolutely!" Tempest says in response to the water statement, "There's going to be a pool and I can always pull moisture out of the air in emergencies to soak us down if it gets to long and dry. There's water moisture in the air even in the deserts after all." He smiles brightly, "There'd be little to worry about when it comes to that as long as I'm there." He considers, "Knowing M'gann and the others will definitely go a long way if you're really interested in joining the Titans for sure." He pauses for a few moments and then looks away, "I mean..." He seems to clam up a bit, actually blushing a bit, "I don't want to presume to speak for the others or..." He clears his throat and then continues, "But we're having a get together soon, you should come. There's some other individuals who want to join the Titans too so it could become a try-outs of sorts I guess."

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena Marquez smiles, "Well I am muy interested. Being a part of a team would be wonderful. I mean I don't have magic but I do have my own talents and skills. Like I can cook surface foods. And I'm a pretty good detective. I'm pretty okay with the trident. I can fight barehanded. Oh and umm I can talk to sea life. Can't do humans yet. I can talk to sea mammals but its still a little difficult. I think my body is still adapting even after all this time.

She smiles, "I will definitely be there. I can try out and I'm pretty sure I can do my best to get on the team. It will be a blast!"

Tempest (343) has posed:
"It'll grow." Tempest says, "The telepathy I mean." He quickly adds, "I can talk to most anyone if they're willing these days but I don't really like to use it that much because it's pretty invasive you know? I don't /want/ the ability to mess with people's heads but... it can be a lot of fun having private conversations. M'gann is /way/ better at it than I am so if you want to get better at it you should ask her." He suggests smiling a little more at her exhuberance, "If you need help getting there let me know, I can take us right now if you wanted. It's a bit of a swim but I'm sure you have your own means. I'm just used to hopping back and forth at speed."

"I'm sure you'd make a great addition to the team, we can't always all be together after all as most of us have our own side projects. Robin with Batman, M'gann with J'onn, so on and so forth. It's also nice to not be alone, I didn't know what to do with myself at first when I stopped primarily being a sidekick."

Aquagirl (Lorena Marquez) has posed:
Lorena Marquez nods slowly, "I noticed. We talked telepathically while we were swimming. when she got used to how to speak underwater we switched to normal means." She snickers. "I can swim there. I'm not exactly sea sloth ya know." She winks and takes off. She's definitely faster then a human. She quickly moves, at highway speeds until she's right behind him. "You're faster then me but I'm fast enough to get there. So umm, When is the get together?"

She smiles and calls out mentally, ~Its okay, you can come out now.~ A little baby seahorse comes swimming out of a hiding place where she had been watching from the start. Lorena quietly pets the little fish and just laughs. "This is Gypsy. She's stuck with me for a while." She giggles.

"Hey it's okay. I'm usually alone anyway. Like I said, Its kinda awkward for me. I get a lot of funny looks still even though I am part of Arthur's inner circle. I think some people around here still view me as a surface dweller while the surface dwellers think I'm Atlantean and I'm confused!!!" She laughs.

Tempest (343) has posed:
He watches her swim around because, yes, he is a young man and she is well worth admiring. Tempest smiles wryly, "I didn't doubt your ability but... it is in about ten hours from now, in New York City." Which is who knows how many miles from Poseidonis really. "That is one part about being here I don't really like. Everyone is so judgemental of anything they view as odd. It took them a long time to accept Arthur, and I'm pretty sure a lot of them don't accept me still too because my eyes are 'cursed' to the superstitious types." Tempest says with a frown as he looks away for a moment until he hears the telepathic call for the little seahorse. "It's always good to have friends."

"I think anyone who looks at you oddly is a fool. All I see is a beautiful woman." Tempest says without thinking and then he blanches, "Oh... um.. I should really get going. I've got to deliver my report to the Palace before I head back and there's tons of paperwork." He'd turn green around the gills, if he had gills, instead he just pales and gets blotchy from trying to blush and die at the same time. "It was fun... I hope to see you in New York... yeah." And then FWOOSH, he's off with a hell of a wake.
