Prisoner Transfer
Date of Scene: 15 February 2019
Location: Mansion Alpha
Synopsis: Just when Alpha Flight was about to grant Arella Despana a refugee status, Lex Luthor waltz in after pulling all sorts of political miracles, and getting himself permission to walk away with Arella, as something of a guardian overseeing her integration with Earth society.
Cast of Characters: Captain Marvel (Danvers), Darkhawk, Yin, Arella Despana, Lex Luthor

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
It has been a few days in captivity for Arella Despana since she's been interrogated by Captain Marvel. The time has been spent on further investigation by Marvel, including talks with Thor King of Asgard, who had such lowly opinion of the Dark Elf, he suggested she should be executed without delay. But when all is said and done, Carol herself didn't find the evidence to back such an action. In fact, she didn't have the evidence to suggested further incarceration. But, just before she was about to grant refugee status officially, politics got into play, and very soon she had pressure from Department H to pursuit an altogether different resolution.

With a small retinue of Alpha Flight, Captain Marvel walks into the room where the Dark Elf been imprisoned, holding with her a slim bracelet looking device. "Arella Despana," she calls out to the prisoner, "we've reviewed all we could and have come to a resolution which I think you'll find amicable."

Darkhawk has posed:
Darkhawk was part of the contingent that made first contact with Arella Despana, and he had been kind to her, despite what Thor had said. So perhaps he might have been seen as a friendly, well, not face, but figure. His mask was pretty scary, so angular and metal, and the glowing red visor didn't help.

Once Green Arrow had been on scene, he deferred to the senior Alphan, and with Captain Marvel, he was still a little bit in awe. Thankfully such things didn't show up on his face. He tried to remain quiet for now, but was there, as friendly as a suit of alien android power armour designed for fear could be.

Yin has posed:
Yin follows after Captain Marvel. Her presence is useful, after all. Her ability to read people can be very important in any negotiations. She prowls along quietly alongside, not the tiniest bit of wasted energy in her movements.

She does frown a bit, after all, her previous experience with the Svartalfar was from watching refugees suffer from their poisons. But, she has been assured that the one with whom she will be speaking was not involved in that.

Arella Despana has posed:
"Am-icable?" Arella asks in accented English. "You don't seem happy Cap-tain Mar-vel?" The Dark Elf continues. Her accented Englissh has begun to become less and less accented. A disturbing level of assimilation. In such a short time. Thor seems more sensible at significant junctures with this Dark Elf. "What are these terms?"

Arella turns and regards Darkhawk and Yin with those bright emerald eyes of hers. Unique amongst her people.

Lex Luthor has posed:
Indeed, a resolution that should work for everyone. Everyone except for the Asgardians, at least. But after they rebuffed him during their initial landing, it's unlikely Lex is particularly interested in good relations with New Asgard.

"The terms, my dear, are actually very agreeable." In strides one Lex Luthor in an impeccable business suit. His friendly demeanor and charisma are in full effect... while behind him trails Hope and Mercy; both in armor and geared up as close to legally as Lex could manage without breaking laws. As the Man of Tomorrow walks in, hands behind his back in a professional gait, he stops just inside the doorway enough to allow the two bodyguards to have line of sight of the room.

Lex himself looks over each occupant of the 'guest room', in an obvious read of the situation, "I see cooler heads have prevailed, and that we will be able to move this along in due course." Lex notes with a small smile as his eyes go directly for Captain Marvel. "I was given the impression that you would be handling most of the arrangements yourself. Correct?" Lex inquires.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"Yes," Carol answers Arella's question, noting her vast improvement in English, "the television did you well," she remarks. Though the suggestion she may not be happy earns Arella a bit of a glower, "what would you know of my happiness?" She asks, a tinge annoyed, but then Arella couldn't tell that her pronounciation of Mar-Vell had bigger weight with Carol than most could ever guess.

But then before she can get to terms, it seems Lex just waltzes in without waiting to provide the answer all on his own. But what he doesn't cover, she adds for Arella's sake, "you have to concede wearing this transponder on your wrist," she informs the Dark Elf, as she holds up the bracelet looking device for her to see. "This is a precaution on behalf of the people of Earth. You've been painted as a high level threat, which clashes with Alpha Flight's own findings. As such this is a small precaution for the reward of no longer being a prisoner..."

Carol then motions to Lex, "this is Lex Luthor, and you will be going with him, you will be his guest though he may have a request or two. You are free to refuse," Carol stresses, "you will be considered a refugee in status, Lex Luthor will be handed more or less a guardianship over you."

Carol finally turns to face Lex completely, eyeing Hope and Mercy unfavorably, before looking back at their boss. "Cooler heads is one way to put it. As Director of Alpha Flight, I am in charge in Mansion Alpha, do you understand what Arella is? And do you understand that the people of New Asgard may openly wish to harm her? I can offer you this much warning in advance. I have gone on record that I would protect Arella should they seek to attack her without due cause."

She then looks at Darkhawk, "could you please release the energy barrier from Arella's cell?" Before turning to face Yin, "do you have any input at this time, before any further action is taken, Yin?"

Darkhawk has posed:
Darkhawk audibly says, "woah," as Lex Luthor arrives. There aren't many billionaires that he'd recognise on sight, but the owner of LexCorp is one of them. There aren't many bald Caucasian businessmen in their thirties. He's so star struck by the celebrity that he doesn't even think to question why two of his people have been allowed to wear armour and other special gear in a secure government facility like Mansion Alpha.

He listens in his suit, and it's a very good thing that his mask betrays no emotion. What Captain Marvel said seemed just so very wrong. They've found her to be good, yet higher ups think she's bad. Thor certainly did. And she's going with Lex, rather than get refugee status. It was all over his head, but even at his young age, he couldn't help but wonder if this was a monstrous injustice. Or maybe he was just misreading the situation. He was just a teenager. Which reminded him; he had a history test on Monday. He should study.

When instructed, he went over to the console, tapping the buttons to shut down the energy barrier from Arella's cell, which had the look of a lovely guest room, but was as secure as any prison. It was just made to make the inmate feel better. As he released Arella, he repeated, "you don't have to do anything you don't want to. Everyone has that right, human, or otherwise."

Yin has posed:
Yin looks between everyone present, expression hidden by her mask. "I have no comment yet, Captain. Your thoughts on the matter seem similar to mine." And Darkhawk's, for that matter. This situation seems like a mess.

She positions herself to the side, where she can watch everybody at once, mask covers hiding who she is focusing on.

Arella Despana has posed:
"This Hairless man with his army? I am his slave now?" Despana chides her captors, "And yet Thor Odinson and his minions on Earth may hunt me when I am with the man who has bought me?"

She looks Lex up and down. "Released into custody? Am I this smug man's wife now?" The Dark Elf asks. Perhaps she knows it is not the case because she takes it with a degree of Laconic humor.

Lex Luthor has posed:
As Arella continues to speak, Lex watches her. "You're a lively one." Lex states with a hint of amusement. "As the good Captain Marvel said, I'm Lex Luthor. You will not be a slave, but a monitored refugee... and no, you're not going to be my wife. Marriage among most religions on Earth works very differently from your own ideas, it seems." Lex walks up to the exact position where the barrier was, and gives Arella a look over, "if New Asgard attempts to attack you, we have countermeasures and resources of our own in LexCorp to defend you. Plus, no doubt the fine heroes of Alpha Flight and the Avengers will not look kindly on Thor taking matters into his own hands when you have been given legal status on Earth."

He turns around then to regard Captain Marvel once again, "Thank you for your cooperation on this matter. I appreciate the understanding." He offers one of his hands for a handshake. It's friendly, too. With a smile.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol does have a bit of a pained expression when Arella taunts her for making her another man's slave. "The government of Canada does not condone slavery," Carol informs in as emotionally neutral a tone as she can muster, "you are not being sold into slavery, there was no monetry exchange for your release." As she has those accusations thrust in her face, Carol ponders that perhaps she was a fool to tell Thor she will fight him to protect Arella, maybe the Dark Elf does have it coming...

It takes a cosmic effort for Carol to show a calm exterior as she keeps her eyes on Arella, remarkably avoiding a glare of disdain. She keeps a neutral appearance quite gracefully. "Should you wish to marry that man, you have the right to do so, but I suspect Lex Luthor isn't a man who easily takes on himself such commitments. After all, between the two of you, you'd have more to gain by such an advantageous marriage."

With the forcefield removed, Carol extends the transponder bracelet towards Arella, "your consent to wear this transponder is the last thing standing between you staying in this cell, and your release to freedom, under Lex Luthor's guardianship."

At Lex Luthor's words, Carol nods, "I have already stressed before the King of Asgard that I will fight for your protection should he seek to harm you."

Carol does shake hands with Lex, her grip, as he might have expected if he read about her at all, is quite firm indeed. But there's an amicable expression on her visage, so it's likely not a powergaming handshake to stress dominance, or any silliness of that nature. "I don't know what you've done to secure this resolution, Mr. Luthor, but as Director of Alpha Flight, I am bound by all orders coming down from Department H, and this seems to have been a call of Canada's Government. I have no reason to not be understanding in this matter, I just hope you do have all the means to ensure the safety of Earth. I'll be honest, I find no reason not to release Arella, but there are many warnings to be heeded."

Darkhawk has posed:
Poor Darkhawk, he's like a bird that's been nudged out of the nest. Either he'll figure out how to fly, or he'll go splat. He doesn't say much, he knows better, but the way his attention goes from Ms. Despana, to Mr. Luthor, to Captain Marvel, before cycling through them again, well, if he were really here, and not being represented by an android body, he'd be feeling very dizzy right now.

Actually, he feels pretty dizzy, but it's a different kind, more emotional. So much posturing, so much tension, and his suit, despite all its advantages, did not come with a knife to cut it. He's going to have to dwell on this for some time, but for now, he just stands there, looking from one to another, trying to make sense of it all.

Of course, he's seventeen now, an age when most rebel. But he has two young siblings at home that he's been looking after, as a virtual parent, for some time now, given what his actual parents do and how little time they have for the family. He's had to take on responsibility. So far, he's managed to rest it on his shoulders. But the way things are going, he's going to have to ask Doc Hudson if he can somehow requisition bigger shoulders.

Yin has posed:
Yin considers Ari, seeing only the expected anger. She can't fault that, and in the situation, she expects that if she does do anything, it was probably something she can't fault.

Her attention moves to Lex now, silent and relaxed. He seems as honest as any terms and conditions document - no falsehoods, but there seems like plenty of space to sail freighters through what he is careful not to say. His friendliness looks genuine - he already has what he came for, after all.

"Feel free to contact any of us if there is anything we can do to help you that might be less politically constrained." Politics are not a thing she enjoys being trapped in.

Lex Luthor has posed:
Once it becomes clear the the warnings and other conversations are dealt with, Lex gives a nod and starts to head back to the door, "Mercy, call ahead and get the LexWing to standby." Lex orders of the bodyguard without skipping a beat. Just before he goes through the door, he looks to Darkhawk, who has been silent for most of the exchange. "Interesting suit you have there." Lex notes, almost offhandedly, before he steps over the threshold. "The limo is waiting outside when you're ready, Captain Marvel." Lex offers just outside the room, quickly moving out of earshot.
