Cast of Characters: Black Panther, Spider-Woman (Drew)

Black Panther has posed:
T'Challa had sent a text message to Jessica Drew:

Returning from a walk. Stopping at The Coffee Bean if you happen to be in the area.

And at the moment T'Challa is still here. He has a cup of cappuccino in front of him as he sits in a chair a bit sideways, leaning against the wall behind him. He picks up his cup to take a sip before setting it down again and letting out a gentle sounding sigh.

On the table on a plate is a slice of marbled pound cake, a mix of normal and chocolate flavors swirled together. Also a pair of tarts, one raspberry and one lemon. T'Challa is dressed in dark slacks and a long-sleeve shirt, with a leather jacket that is currently draped over his chair.

Spider-Woman (Drew) has posed:
Jess wasn't too far from The Coffee Bean when she got T'Challa's text. And so with a brown paper-wrapped parcel, she slips inside the cafe with a shiver from the blustery wind outside, which has dared to break a lovely warm streak in the city. Dressed in an ankle-length flow skirt of earth tones and an ivory tunic tied with a gypsy belt on the diagonal over one hip, she catches sight of T'Challa and smiles. As she moves to where he is seated, her skirts rustle and brush the tops of soft leather boots. "Well, don't YOU look comfy?"

Black Panther has posed:
"And I /feel/ even more comfy, I assure you," T'Challa says as he rises from his chair to greet Jessica. His eyes show how glad he is that she made it. "Please, have a seat," he says, pulling out a chair for her. "Have one of the pastries to keep me from being tempted. While I get you... what? Tea? Coffee? Cappuccino as I am having?" he asks. The sound of a grinder starts up and he says, "Something is being freshly ground. If you wish to try your luck on a random blend?" he offers.

Spider-Woman (Drew) has posed:
"Earl Grey," Jessica replies without a second thought. "I have terrible luck when I decide to test it." She grins and seats herself where T'Challa has pulled out a chair. She looks over the selections of pastries that he has arranged on the table, shaking her head. "N-no, I shouldn't be tempted either. I haven't the willp--is that a lemon tart?"

Black Panther has posed:
"No," T'Challa replies at the question about the tart. "It is a fresh-baked lemon tart. It came out of the oven right as I arrived," he replies. He touches her shoulder just briefly and then goes to the counter to get her the cup of Earl Grey. "Can you infuse some lavender into it?" he asks the barrista. "Ah, good. Thank you," he tells them as he pays for the beverage. The door opens, admitting a couple of college students, one of whom plops down to start cramming while the other goes for beverages. It's quite the assorted crowd in here today.

T'Challa gets the cup of tea and brings it over, setting it down in front of Jessica and then retaking his seat. He glances over to see what, if anything, remain of the pastries.

Spider-Woman (Drew) has posed:
Jessica has not yet torn the lemon tart asunder. Instead, she is biting one nail, staring at it, when T'Challa returns. "Wanna split it with me? I mean, hypothetically, if I WERE going to partake..." She takes the tea from T'Challa, and thanks him, sipping it slowly and exhaling with relief at the warmth, within and without. "This isn't exactly where I would have expected to find you today."

Black Panther has posed:
"If you are going to force a part of it on me," T'Challa concedes. He slides the plate and a plastic knife over to Jessica to let her do the honors. T'Challa resumes his previous position, turned sideways in his chair and resting with his back to the wall, facing him towards Jessica's seat beside him in this case. "No? Where is it that you would have expected to find me?" he inquires. "Or should I ask, and why would you not expect to find me here?" he adds to the question. "I have been exploring New York," T'Challa adds with a small, satisfied nod.

Spider-Woman (Drew) has posed:
"Oh, I don't doubt that you've been exploring. But I sort of would expect to find you in a museum, or a gallery. Maybe even just walking through Central Park. Or the Arts District. This place is quaint, though. I like it. And they make a tremendous cup of tea, apparently."

Taking the plastic knife, Jess cuts the lemon tart into the most exact halves she can manage, and she hands T'Challa a plastic fork. "There, the deed is done..."

Black Panther has posed:
"Those are interesting places too," T'Challa says. "But I have been watching the people. They interest me more than the places do. Most of the time," T'Challa says, adding the last in a small concession to some of the interesting buildings and architecture he has seen.

T'Challa takes the plastic fork and moves it overtop of one of the lemon tart halves. He glances to Jessica to see if she reacts to his choice. Tensing and he takes the other half. Relaxing or none and he takes the half he'd selected.

"Steve took me to see the area he was from. As I told him... seeing how people of so many different cultures, and backgrounds, have mixed is interesting to me. It is something we do not have to deal with in Wakanda. Not to the same degree by any means," T'Challa says. "But who knows maybe one day we will be more open. Diversity here is a source of division, and one of strength. Perhaps I can learn from observing it," the African monarch says quietly.

Spider-Woman (Drew) has posed:
Jessica, of course, is just happy to have lemon tart. She makes her move on the other half before T'Challa can even determine her reaction. Taking a bite, Jess rolls her eyes and makes a yummy sound. "Omygod that is soooo good." In truth? This is a lemon tart we're talking about. No, a freshly-baked lemon tart. Anyone else reaching for it would have found his arm impaled with a plastic fork.
