Cast of Characters: Captain America, Captain Marvel (Danvers)

Captain America has posed:
A colder day full of drizzle and sleet means that Steve's downtime is spent burning off excess energy. Busy bumblebee that he is (and avowed workaholic at worst), he's to be found downstairs in the gymnasium and workout room in the Avengers mansion this afternoon. The music playing on the speakers is low, even to his ears, and a careful listen will mark it as instrumental music. It's not the humdrum heard on elevators, more a collection of old movie tunes and some newer pieces from more modern composers.

In a black t-shirt and grey sweatpants, with fists wrapped against the small possibility of broken skin, the Captain is grunting as he works at one of the sandbags invariably doomed to break under his pummeling. A spare leans against the wall nearby beside his small duffel bag. He's not totally distracted -- anyone walking in will garner a glance from him.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol has been through a rough patch thanks to one infamous Dark Elf, her duty as Director of Alpha Flight, and one awesome Thor, God of Thunder. It got her drinking again, and got her looking for Tony for support, which wound up with the both of them drinking. It's been a disaster.

But she also got some good advice from Janet and Tony, which took her on a path to look out for Steve Rogers, resident Avengers good guy with the hidden power of reaching though who are unreachable. He's certainly better than Carol at that, she tends to butt heads when she thinks she's right.

It was a safe bet to find Steve in the Gym during days like these, but on the off chance he wasn't, Carol was dressed to let off some steam herself. Dressed fit to exercise in a pair of yoga pants and a sports top, all in air force blue. But lucky for her, she can hear the work put on the sandbags, and she feels relieved she did not waste her time. Only one man around her gets to this pace working the bags, "Steve!" She calls out as she moves closer, and calls again if he doesn't hear her the first time, "can I have a word?"

Captain America has posed:
The fast punching of the bag slows at hearing his name. Steve turns to see Carol and lifts a hand silently to acknowledge he's heard her. "Sure, Carol, lemme just..."

And WHAM -- dead bag, broken at the clip at the top. No sand spills everywhere, thank goodness, but it is down for the count. Picking it up and hauling it to the wall by the intact spare, Steve then dusts off his hands. He walks over to meet Carol in her approach and gives her a smile.

"I can always take a breather. What's on your mind?" he asks even as he gets to picking at the athletic tape about his knuckles to remove it, his eyes still resting on her face.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"I think it's safe to say you just killed it," Carol grins, watching Steve totally bring it to that sandbag. "I gotta hand it to you Steve, it's always fun to watch you work that bag."

Small talk aside, Carol soon loses her smile, as she shares what's on her mind, "I was actually looking for you because of something between Thor and I." She sighs, not sure how caught up on Avengers gossip Steve might be, or if Janet made sure to catch him up, so she goes with Cliff Notes version. "You heard about that dark elf that crashed in Canada? She fell under Alpha Flight jurisdiction. Thor wanted her executed, I refused and followed protocol."

Carol shrugs as if to convey how helpless she was to consider the wishes of a very good friend in Thor, "from interrogation, and studying of her vessel, we had no conclusive evidence she was a threat. I tried to smooth it over with Thor, but he refused the offer of a drink, and while he let me talk, he didn't say a word...I'm worried this might mean war, and I wouldn't relish fighting with him. I'm also not sure it's a good thing for the Avengers as whole, so...would you have a word with him on my behalf? Maybe he'll listen to you?"

Captain America has posed:
Steve frowns as he listens, appearing as concerned as any friend might to hear of friction, much less over something as dire as potential execution. He gives a little shake of his head as he digs at the stubborn tape with a thumbnail.

"I think I've met your Dark Elf. Despana. She was wandering around with a tablet tracking for technology...something about needing it to fix her ship and the augmentations on her body. I recommended reaching out to you again, since you and Alpha Flight had offered sanctuary first. Didn't seem like she wanted it." His broad shoulders lift and fall in a shrug as he shifts his weight where he stands, his eyes back on Carol's face again. "I've heard enough about Thor's thoughts on things. Haven't spoken to him yet. You want me to play the middle-man, about the threat of her execution?"

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"That so...?" Carol seems surprised, "just...where did you..." but Steve answers that one before Carol can form the question. "That's alarming," Carol notes, nodding at Steve's assessment, "she didn't want anything to do with Alpha Flight, obviously. She probably doesn't even know she owes her life to me. Thor would have finished her post haste."

"Look, I already told Thor that in my role as Director of Alpha Flight, until proven guilty, I will protect her from him...I just need you to get through his thick skull, that I am not his enemy. If she's proven guilty of all she claims, I will fight her at his side...he needs to understand that."

Captain America has posed:
The slow sigh from Steve is accompanied by a visible shift-shift of his jaw back and forth. "I'd be telling him the same thing, were I in your shoes. Innocent until proven guilty. I'm not going to to claim that I know where the man's drive to be rid of her comes from, so I'll have to ask him about that too." The quiet sound of the tape unwinding from about his hands interrupts and he pauses if simply to glance down and make certain he doesn't accidentally swat anything or anyone with the counter-movements of his revealed hand.

"I'll see what I can do. We don't need any in-fighting within the group. I can't guarantee that I can make him see our reason, but I'll try nonetheless. Blood spilled is still a loss of life, even if the grudge is an old one."

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol salutes Steve, ever appreciative she has another military type who gets it, before extending her arm for a solid handshake, "I value your wisdom, and your friendship, Steve, it's an honor to be able to say I can count on Captain America having my back." She nods firmly at his resolution, "indeed, we don't need any of that in-fighting non-sense, I just want Thor to understand where I'm coming from, and not pretend like he can't hear me." She shrugs, "I was talking to Janet, and I raised the concern he may not have been listening because I'm a woman, I'm not sure if that's a thing in Asgard, but regardless, I'm hoping to you he'll at least listen."

Captain America has posed:
The Captain returns both the handshake, at a respectful level of strength, and the curt nod. "Dunno if it's a thing in Asgard, but it's not gonna fly on this team. Everyone gets their due respect as far as I'm concerned and that means being able to talk as equals." He then works at shucking the other length of athletic tape. This comes off far more quickly than the other, having not gotten stuck to itself glue-to-glue side.

"In the meanwhile, it might be good to keep half an eye on Despana. If she's innocent until proven guilty, you may need to intervene in case there's any action taken against her. I'm not saying start a fight, Carol," he clarifies, giving her a solemn look. "I'm saying stand your ground, like you did before. Deadlock is a better option than throwing the first punch right now. I know you can throw a mean one as is." He grins, almost cajolingly.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"Of course, standing my ground is what I do..., and by Air Force creed, I am my nation's sword and shield, its sentry and avenger. Whatever it takes, I will make sure I do the right thing," Carol promises, and as Steve moves on about his day, she goes to set up another sandbag so she can have a bit of a workout herself. She can certainly use punching stuff time.
