Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Cannonball, Phoenix

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie is in the kitchen waiting on a pizza to cook. He has a tablet out on the table, looking at some things on it.

Phoenix has posed:
There's footsteps leading to the kitchen, further narrowing the possibilities is the click-clacking of heels, as Jean enters and joins at the table without words. Waiting for Sam to notice her.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will look up after a moment, of typing and offer a nod in greeting and a smile "Hello."

Phoenix has posed:
"Mr. Guthrie..." Jean starts, the way she goes by surname rather than Sam, and the seriousness of the tone suggests she's not here by accident. "Is there something you've forgotten?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie 's brow raises a bit to this and says "Um no, not that Ah can think of, is something wrong Ma'am?"

Phoenix has posed:
Jean's right hand moves to rest on the table, her fingernails drumming against it's surface, giving Samuel another moment to think, before eventually speaking, "you know, letting you take leadership of the younger mutants, was a show of support." She turns to set her green eyes on Sam, "a show that we have faith in you, Sam, that you've matured and grown to a dependable leader. You know what's key in leadership?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Trusting the one who is leading you?" He still does not seem to be getting where Jean is coming from. He seems to think a bit more and honestly seems to not know where she is going.

Phoenix has posed:
"Communication is a pretty key component," Jean offers as she looks at Sam in a rather neutral gaze, "anything you may have neglected to communicate?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms, and says "Well, lets see, took Erika, and Rachel to Norway with Rahne and I to talk to thor, but that was not so much a school thing, but making sure Thor knew of possible danger, and Erika knows the language. Did thinking about asking to go via the black bird, but since don't know how to pilot it, took commercial flight."

Phoenix has posed:
Jean looks quite surprised at how casually Samuel mentions that, "Erika...a student, Rachel...a student," she looks at Sam as if waiting for him to become aware before she makes her point. "Didn't occur to you this was something you should have reported to anyone? Scott? Me? Anyone? I'd also say New Asgard is more than just any ol' place in Norway."

"I'm glad not being able to pilot the Blackbird is what stopped you from report this impending trip, you know, you could have gotten a pilot to go with you. Like Rogue for instance, or someone else...maybe I'd like to see New Asgard for myself."

After Jean is done musing, she leans back in her seat, and asks, "so as you listen to your answer, do you get what I'm shooting for, Sam?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Ah take it you want me to fill you in more. Honestly, wanted to just have Ilyana use disks to get us there. It was not a mision or anything, and Ah thought me being an adult, Ah had the authority to ask Erika if she wanted to go. Ah had been trying to get Thor here for a while for a personal reason, and figured that would get him the info about Hela quickiest way. As for Rachel, actually did not think of her as a student. More as adult family staying here. As for overall answer Ah believeyou wanting more communication, but may Ah ask something?""

Phoenix has posed:
"So, you taking a student to a place ruled by Asgardian Law, where a student could wind up in a duel to the death for the wrong word or action, seems reasonable to you? What am I to tell parents on an event like that?" Jean asks, immediately going to worst case scenarios to remind Sam he needs to think of those when taking responsibilities over others. "Suppose Illyana was here to port you over, don't you find it something worthwhile to report?" Jean looks a bit disappointed, before rewinding to an earlier point, "and the fact the whole journey was taken to inform Thor of a possible danger? How come I'm still unaware of such possible danger if it relates to a student? I mean...it does relate to a student, right? You didn't take them to Norway willy nilly, did you Sam?"

Jean is well into her mother hen role, but as Sam asks to have a question of his own, she motions for him to go on.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the woman, and says "Ms. Grey, I have seen the worst case senario with students going out without a chaperone. If you think Ah would have let anything happen to Erika, or anyone else who Ah had with me, then Ah fear you do not know my loyalty to my family here." He will say "Ok, first so you know since others have not told you and Ah assumed someone had. "Hela ported Rahne t her relm, and had an Valkyre judge her if she thought Rane had the right stuff like Dani. They thought Rahne had it in her, as she showed them no fear, and they teleported her back. Rahne and Ah both had personal reasons to go to Asgard and alerting Thor of a possible attempt on the throne seemed important, even before we found out he is now the king. Ah am on good terms with Asgard, and had helped save Odin's life so figured Safe place for us. At least as safe as anywhere else. It was a one day trip, and Ah Erika might be usefull, and also thought might be able to get her some items with useful skills on them while there. But Ah am curious if Scott, Rogue, Logan, or even Bobby had did this would you have been upset with them over it?

Phoenix has posed:
Jean listens as Sam defends herself, smiling warmly, hoping he is not perceiving her lesson as an attack on his person. "You ability to protect others, or your loyalty to your friends, or the X-Men wasn't being questioned, Mr. Guthrie, it was the fact you informed no one before you left on this excrusion..."

But then when someone finally informs her why Sam thought it was imperative to take this journey, she listens more intently, dropping the lecturing mode as she made her point. "So you're saying an Asgardian took one of our students...?" She frowns, listening further.

"Let's do it in points." Jean decides to be meticulous about it, making sure to keep things levelled and making it clear to Sam this is a conversation between adults, not an attack on his person. "One. You made the right call in wanting to inform Thor of this matter. Two. You made the wrong call not informing us on this matter. Three. I bet you my position as Headmistress, that Scott, Rogue and Logan would have at the very least informed me that they have taken such an undertaking, more so if they took students with them." She doesn't need to be a telepath, to know which of those Sam is likely to question, and answers before he can do so, "yes, Sam, even Logan reports at the very least to me when he takes students anywhere."

She waits a moment to make sure Sam is taking it in good spirits, before infroming him, "this is not about questioning your ability to do this, it's about your failing to tell anyone. Suppose this was a real attempt on the Asgardian Throne as you put it, and Hela would take you all while en route...what are we supposed to think when we don't hear from you anymore? That would be our failure. For not explaining communication correctly. Do you understand my concern? I still trust you, Sam, I just want you to trust me back."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Rahne said she had told folks, when Ah heard about it, Ah assumed was the higher ups. Ah should have alerted you we were going Ah can only blame old habits dieing hard. There were times when we felt we could not trust Magneto, or even Professor X. Don't get me wrong, I respect both of them, and learned from both of them, even if Ah do not agree with how either of them do things at times. Ah may have a little more us and them mentality to break myself of. Speaking of us and them. I know I am responsible for Erika, Andrea, Laura, Evan, Kaydin, and Ah think maybe Doogie. He is not in shape to consider for new mutant training yet, but Ah will admit concerned the others will fill him in on stuff without thinking about it. Illyana is working with me, so know I sorta am responsible for her, but what about Pixie and Rahne?"

Phoenix has posed:
"Rahne told folks...that's nice of her, are those 'folks' only her close friends?" Jean muses, there's a bit of humor in her tone, but as Sam would know from this very conversation, she's not happy about it. "I can be honest with you, but I expect honesty in return," Jean informs Sam, as she projects into his mind words she'd like to keep from being public knowledge, <<when the Professor left me in charge as Headmistress, I felt I wasn't worthy, I wasn't ready, and definitely not up to the task. Nothing scares me more than having him return to be disappointed in me and telling me I failed. Losing students in Norway, or to an Asgardian, would very much be my failure. Regardless of whether I was directly involved or not, that's why everytime something like this goes unreported...I take it personally. It may seem like an adventure to you, but to me it's a moment I can fail without ever having a say in something. It's scary, Sam, I know I graduated well ahead of you, but I have my fears, my concerns, and a huge sense of responsibility over the students at Xavier's. So please...work with me to minimize the chances to give me a heart attack...>>

She grins as Sam names the people he feels responsible for, knowing that at least he could understand that much of what she shared with him privately. "Let me ease your mind right now, even when she was a new student...nobody is responsible for Illyana but Illyana...she's, a little bit beyond us, I fear, dealing with demons and devils and such."

She smiles when Sam realizes that he can't take Pixie and Rahne for granted, "you offer them the chance to be involved with the New Mutants, they could complete your chain of command as Field Commanders, and such, much like the X-Men have a ranking order..."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods his head a bit to this and says "Ah will do my best, and as for field leaders, Ah want the new students to pick their own of their own. We of the Ah guess Sophmore class? " He counts on his fingers "We will be there to help and back them up, but Ah will be honest with you, the Freshmen are going to go off, and do stuff they feel is right, that they think we will not approve of, and Ah would rather them be prepared to act on their own than lost in a moment of crisis. I aint saying if somehting is going down and they are out with me, Ah won't be directing them as best Ah can, but if they are like us they going to be getting their noses in trouble alone, and Ah want them ready. Heck is part of why Ah am working Erika extra hard, Ah want her prepared in case she does not have souviners handy." He thinks about something for a moment, and says "There is something else Ah should probably talk to you about but Ah don't think this is a headmaster teacher conversation. This is more a Jean Grey Sam conversaton.

Phoenix has posed:
"Sam..." Jean remarks after listening to his say with a mischevious smile on her lips, "I know the X-Men may have seemed the farthest thing from your life, and having us come and go while you were a student yourself didn't make us seem a part of the place, but...we were there. We were kept in the loop. We just didn't intervene so you can grow into your own, much as we have, and by the same token, I expect no less of the newest class under your leadership, Sam Guthrie." Jean hits Sam's shoulder with a weak, affectionate punch, before getting up. "I would gladly have that conversation, Sam, but I do have to see to other matters I'm behind on...come and see me during my off duty hours?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods his head a bit to this and seems a bit releaved maybe that that conversation is getting put off for another time. "Will do." He says.
