Tinyplot: City Fall

Shredder has posed:
Two months ago, Oroku Saki promised to help make the world better for mutants, to that end, his new company, Accelerated Talent, has just launched. The platform is new and better pay for mutants. Mutant representatives even speckle the scene.

The community center, for all of its normal humble appearance, has been transformed. It's spotless. A new floor has been installed. The walls are painted. Club Evolution is providing refreshments of various sorts. Tables and brochures are scattered throughout the room. The major sponsors of the event are on large screen monitors that show the rotating logos.

Stockgen, TCRI, LexCorp. Several smaller companies also are listed around the room, and many of them have representatives for the various industries.

Mutants have come from all over the city, many of them living close by here in mutant town. Some are skeptical, some are hopeful. All seem to be curious.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna had dual purposes in coming to the event. One, Kitty had asked her to look into its legitimacy, and see for herself and the X-men at large how far the promises made seemed solid. Two, Genosha had several business ties with massive multinational companies, such as LexCorp. She was Princess and diplomat of Genosha, and for better or worse, seen as a public figure to the mutant nation.

The tall, green haired woman was dressed smartly in a soft lavender colored pantsuit, and black heels. A cream colored blouse flourished with little metal edges caught the light and was the only real obvious piece of metal on her. While it was still cold outside inside the Community Center was warm enough to merit discarded her coat at what had popped up as the coat check.

Lorna paced, with a click of her heels as she stepped, glancing over the various booth and the alike with a critical, if not polite, eye.

Lex Luthor has posed:
LexCorp is here in full force, with it's own large booth at the fair. Their work in Genosha bringing investment and work to that land is shown on the flatscreen projectors, and LexCorps Public Relations department is handling questions and presentation for those who are curious... while the head of Human Resources handles the actual interviews for those mutants that actually want to submit resumes. Team Luthor is out in force at the booth, too... with state of the art Security gear on the dozen strong squad. All in all, it's obvious that Lex Luthor is very interested in seeing this endeavor succeed.

Lex Luthor himself can be seen mingling with the crowd with a well tailored black business suit, shaking hands and handling the special cases that his head of HR likes, but isn't sure where they should be placed.

As usual, Mercy and Hope flank to each side of their boss, the two bodyguards the unofficial leads for the LexCorp security detachment assigned to the event.

Arella Despana has posed:
Arella Despana has decided to make an appearance at the fair. She is dressed in earth casuals with jeans an a sweater. One of the few places the obvious alien Svartalfar does not look too out of place with her pointy ears and blue grey skin is amongst mutants. She is doing her own thing making herself a coffee but not straying too far from Lex Luthor her 'employer' it would seem.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent, an ancient sort of man, but one who looks in his early fourties, with his salt and pepper hair and clean shaven, steps into to event rather, quietly. He has no reputation, nor does he have much of a memorable face or personality. He's just a man here to get lost in the crowd and do some work for his current employer, maybe do some corporate espionage. That's the order of the day. Gather information.

Vincent wears a basic suit, clean and pressed pants, a matching tie and sports coat worn underneath a heavier black peacoat to help fight the weather outside, but he looks almost comfortable in the clothes, it's nothing new, he's quite casual as he walks around, spotting a few faces familiar to the former cop.

    Lorna, the Princess.

    Lex Luthor, the Executive.

    Many more as well.

Shredder has posed:
As the people gather, the main stage lights up, and a young woman with pincers for hands introduces:

"Thank you everyone for coming out to support this fair. As you know, mutants often have been discriminated and manipulated. There have been people who have sought to push us down. That is why it is my great honor to introduce Oroku Saki, the founder of Accelerated Talent, and CEO of Oroku Industries conglomerate. Oroku Industries is comprised of many companies that we know, two of the best known being TCRI and Stockgen, major employers here in New York City. He has taken it upon himself to see mutants receive equal treatment in the workplace, and to that end, let me introduce our host. Mr. Oroku Saki."

Some clap, some don't. The mixture of suspicion and hope flavors the room as the japanese businessman graces the stage, taking the microphone from the young woma. "Thank you," he says in clear English. "The honor is mine. Too long have mutants been oppressed, much as my own people generations ago. Our world is too small for such oppression. I was introduced as having a mind for equal pay for mutants, but that is not completely true. You see, while mutants have equal value to humans in life, your skills grant you the ability to do many things that once took expensive machinery to accomplish. There is no reason that you should not be well compensated for that skill. That is what Accelerated Talent is about, making sure that you are paid what you are worth."

Polaris has posed:
A phone buzzed in her pocket and Lorna sighed, digging it out as she listened and watched from a comfortable spot in the back. She pursed her lips as she eyed the number, making to step outside so as to not draw attention or interrupt the talks going on center stage. She was interested, she wanted to hear and learn more.. but the phone was her own personal one. And few people had access to that.

Even then, she had to stifle the yawn that pulled at her, having struggled through the previous night spent more or less at the police station.

Lex Luthor has posed:
Once the speech starts, Lex finds his own 'office' in his booth. Both to show representation for LexCorp, and to show respect for Saki and his people. He claps where appropriate, and talks in an aside to Arella, muttering, "Their people tend to be into biotech as much as LexTech is, but they're a bit more specialized."

Arella Despana has posed:
Arella half feigns interest in what Lex is saying, "I see," not quite at ease yet with her having a job on Midgard. Not quite comfortabnle in her own skin after being locked in a frozen hell for five thousand years. She folds her arms and watches the speech with a detached gaze. Arella was usually very go hence rather than come hither. And yet for a Dark Elf she was supposed to be unusually social.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent has his phone out and is recording the presentation by Oroku Saki, doing his due diligence that he can to get information that people are giving out for free. This is however, not applauded or even striking a response from Vincent, he stands there with a blank face as he watches the event. Though he does turn his phone to the right to try and get as many faces on record as possible. Something to look through and maybe use later if needed. He's always covering himself and getting ready for the future.

Shredder has posed:
"That's right, we are going to get better than normal pay for mutants. It is time they are given what they should be for the betterment of our society."

"Yeah," one guy shouts. "What about humans who are going to lose their jobs? Won't that be a problem?" he says. If he's a mutant, he doesn't have any obvious mutations.

"Humans will not be prevented from getting jobs they are able to. As a human myself, I feel that it is fair that each person is able to get a job they deserve."

There are a few people who take note of this exchange, and soon, they seem to join up around the man who made the complaint. "We think this is discrimination against humans," another one says. "It's reverse racism."

Lex Luthor has posed:
When it becomes clear one of 'those' sort of people are here, Lex leans over and whispers to Mercy, "might have a couple agitators around here, put security to standby with non-lethals if this goes hostile." Then, he looks to Arella, "stay here. There's always people like this at these things. They don't think things through and try to find an outlet for their frustration."

He wants to nip this in the bud and come out looking like a friend of humans and mutants both, if he can... and what better way to do it than to talk down potentially violent protesters? "Friends, please. This is nothing like reverse racism." Lex is turning on the charm even as Mercy mutters instructions to Team Luthor. Hope trails behind Lex as he talks, obviously ready to finish a fight if the man starts one, "A man doing skilled work tends to be paid more than unskilled labor, by average, because they know what they're doing. Construction and mining work are both dangerous jobs... wouldn't you rather an earth manipulating mutant help with mining to minimize injuries to both human and mutant workers?" Lex continues, "this is simply filling a niche in the job market that has been missing for centuries."

Then, he turns slightly and gestures to the flat screens back at the LexCorp booth, "the work LexCorp is doing in Genosha is a prime example. We're not putting humans out of work, we're simply accepting mutants for where it makes sense to employ them."

Arella Despana has posed:
Arella cants her head at Lex noting his concern. "I am quite okay when it comes to combat but I will do as you ask." The Svartalfar simply folds her arms and watches the proceedings with her large green eyes. It might be somewhat embarrassing if another human broke his fist on her face. Again. Just like it happened in the bar the other evening.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent rolls his brown eyes, lowering his phone and slipping it into the interior breast pocket of his coat. Then both of his hands are slipped into the exterior pockets as he turns to try and slip away from the scene. No need to stand and watch the inevitable 'Me me mes' that will evenetually ruin the planet. No, he's just going to slip out while everyone is bitching about their paychecks and their reputations.

Shredder has posed:
Saki seems content to let the speaking go on. "Yes," he says, agreeing with Lex. "The mutant population makes up less than 0.03% of the total population. There will not be a danger of humans losing jobs." He turns his gaze back up. "So enjoy, eat food provided by Club Evolution, and find a career that gives you fulfillment." He bows slightly, and then walks off the stage. He doesn't stay out front, but instead starts to walk back to the side room, presumably where there is a place for him to stay away from the group.

Meanwhile, the small group of four humans seems discontent. "This is discrimination," the man argues again. "Mr. Luthor, you object to aliens on earth, but you accept mutants? Don't you think that it's the same sort of threat?" he asks, pointing an accusatory finger at the wealthiest man of Metropolis.

Lex Luthor has posed:
"I object to illegal actual aliens who think they can come to our planet and do as they please without oversight or accountability." Lex counters to the man, "mistrusting the intentions of those who refuse to work within our society is what I stand for." Lex gestures around, then, "every one of these mutants is a person who was born and raised on our planet, and work within our great society without saying they're above it." Then, he squints at the man, "Superman has no accountability, and is completely outside our system... and worse yet, he pretends he knows better than everyone else."

Then, Lex turns back to the four men, "Some mutants work outside our society... and the police have countermeasures for them. What happens when -not if, but when- Superman goes rogue? Every time that red cape flies across Metropolis, he's telling us he's above us all."

Arella Despana has posed:
"Oh boy," Arella says to herself as Lex goes on about aliens that work outside the system. She saw that everytime she looked into a mirror. She did not know what to think of the 'capes' yet. She had encountered relatively few of them. But again all she can do is watch the performance. Not her planet. Not her place to comment.

Vincent Black has posed:
Vincent rolls his eyes as the sound of the arguments remain even he finds his way towards the door. There's no place for people like that in the coming world. Heck, most of these people don't make it either way. Vincent sighs to himself as he shuts the door behind himself and goes on exploring the rest of the event outside the meeting or he simply just goes to his car.

Shredder has posed:
The small group frowns. "Yeah, well we aren't gonna take this," the man says. He points at one mutant, then another, then Arella. "You and your kind, you think you're gonna replace people," he says. "But you ain't. We'll rise up. We'll come up with ways to fight back against you. Don't think we won't. There's still a lot more of us than you, don't you forget it," he says.

Lex Luthor has posed:
"Now you're giving us strawman fallacies to pretend you're something you're not." Lex scoffs at the threat. Then, he turns around and starts to head back to the LexCorp booth, "You're talking like terrorists, now. I believe our nations attitude towards terrorists was very well demonstrated after the world trade center was hit by planes." Lex sits down, "might want to read the history of that, before you do something you might regret."

Mercy, having given the security team their orders, moves back to her position next to Lex. Hope gives a glance to her colleague, before both watch the group of four.

Arella Despana has posed:
"You're not going to see any more of me or my kind human. We are all but extinct," Arella makes the point before returning to the Lex corp booth. Little point saying anything further. If she was attacked then the group of four would regret that course of action.

Shredder has posed:
Oddly, Saki does not reappear to engage the discourse, seeming content to allow Lex to do the work instead. Around the building, some seem to have moved on, now seeing the juvenile threats that are coming out of the four humans.
"Y'know," one says from a table. "If you are wanting a fight," her fingers start to grow into a jagged, bladed looking surface. "I'll be happy to oblige." This causes a few people to turn, fixing their attention on the dark-skinned woman with the mutation manifesting in her hand.

Lex Luthor has posed:
This gets Luthors attention. The dark-skinned mutant prompts Team Luthor to reach for their tasers, "Engaging them on their level does a disservice to you, and threatens potential harm to the rest of those at this fair." Lex gestures to the one with jagged blades, "If they want to be arrested for attempted assault, let them be the first to attack. Doing it first just proves you to be a thug, rather than them." Lex offers in counter-argument, "plus, I'll have no choice but to consider you a threat to the safety of this fair and ask you to be removed, if you try anything." Lex warns.

Arella Despana has posed:
Arella simply watches the conflict. To engage would likely attract Asgardian attention. Hopefully the threat of force would work to diffuse the situation. Or Lex Luthor would do something.

Shredder has posed:
The woman with the bladed fist scowls. She looks like she has something to say to Lex, but then glances at the booth around him, and decides her job opportunities are more important to her than winning an argument. The jagged hand turns back into a regular one, and a tall man approaches, his origin point from the back room Saki disappeared into. He disregards Lex, Mercy, Hope, and Arella. "Okay boys, time to go," he says in a deep voice. "You're not here to take part, so Mr. Oroku says you gotta go." The man turns as if to start an argument, but when he's looking at a barrel chested man standing about 6'8", he stops. The man gives a nod toward the door.
"Stupid fair anyway," he grunts, leading his small posse toward the exit. Presently Saki appears in that same doorway, and quietly steps over toward Lex and Arella. "That was to be expected, I suppose," he says in a deceptively gentle manner. The only other man in an expensive suit, he seems to compliment the appearance of Lex. "Wouldn't you say?" he asks, tilting his head in Arella's direction to include her.

Lex Luthor has posed:
Muttering in an aside to Mercy as the four go, "have a drone keep an eye on them. I want to know where they're doing and what they're doing. They could be just blowhards... but they might lead to bigger fish." Mercy takes out her smartphone and begins to make the calls. Then Saki steps out into the main area, and Lex looks in his direction, "there's always these sort of people at these events." Lex agrees, "what matters is you show them their place in no uncertain terms."

Then, Lex turns to regard Arella, "Us humans are a diverse people, with diverse ideas... an some of those ideas are better than others."

Arella Despana has posed:
"I know," Arella says. "I have been here before - but that was some five thousand of your years ago." Arella's arms are crossed as she speaks. She's been around the galaxy quite a bit. "They are just defencding their own. A fair goal. But one should not endeavor to make needless enemies in doing so."

Shredder has posed:
There is an arch of the brow. "Five thousand," he says, "That's quite a long time away," he comments. "I cannot say that I've met many people who claim such an age." He folds his hands behind his back, seeming no longer concerned with the humans that are being exited from the premise.
The man turns to fly a couple of birds at the event on his way out the door, one obscene gesture to accent his departure along with an obscene comment. Saki ignores him completely.

Lex Luthor has posed:
"She was in some sort of sleep state drifting out in space, and examination of her ship confirms that." Lex notes as Saki comments, "I'll leave you two to your discussion though; I can see Wendy waving me down for a chat." Lex offers in an apologetic tone as he stands, and head for the Head of HR.
