Shadow has posed:
Let's get the obvious out of the way first: Joey Moretti is not, in fact, a very nice man, and he hasn't been a very nice man for more than a decade. When you're a leg-breaker and general muscle for the Mob, 'nice' isn't a good fit on your resume. Vandalism, assault, extortion, burglary, a spot of arson here and there... Joey's quite steeped in sin with little regret, as the pay was good and his patrons made sure to bail him out whenever one of Gotham's capes got the drop on him.

But even men who aren't nice still have a conscience, and sometimes they even listen to it. So when he found out that his latest job was going to involve arson of an /occupied/ hospital, because his boss wanted a nicely tragic accident to blame on a competitor's not-up-to-code construction, something in him rebelled, and he found himself talking to someone who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men...

To make a long story short, a tragedy was averted and several of Joey's colleagues found themselves in jail... But his boss figured out who talked. Things aren't looking good for Joey... But what neither he nor his boss know is that people have been looking out for him. And while the cops have been bought off and won't be responding to a disturbance near the area where he's being held, Dinah Lance is on no one's payroll -- and she's just received a message from Oracle with a summary of the situation and the location of the warehouse in question.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary sighs as she shakes her head, as she's sitting on her hog. She can't _believe_ this crazy situatino - protecting an outright CRIMINAL from other criminals. But - a thug who actually showed a bit of a heart in not torching a HOSPITAL. So... it's complicated. As most things tend to be. Le sigh. She turns the hog off and just starts to slowly patrol around the warehouse.

Shadow has posed:
The lights are off - or at least the windows are all painted black. There are also a few guards standing around by the entrances -- clearly, Mr. Scavelli does not want to be disturbed while conducting Joey's performance review. Worse - at least from a would-be rescuer's perspective - these guards appear to be Gotham veterans, judging by the way they look /up/ almost as often as they look around. It's almost enough to make a girl feel unwelcome. Almost.

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary nods as she decides that a little ventriloquism would come in handy. She gets a small device from her Harley and decides to take advantage of the guards' predeliction to keep looking up as if waiting for death to swoop from above. She tosses a small device up on top of the building... five... four... three... two.. one... SKRREEEEEEEEEE! Canary tossed a small sonic weapon, and when the guards look up to see what it is, she goes for the two at the side-door, seeking to take them down while distracted without being detected. The sonic mine is loud - but Canary is fortunately unaffeted by loud noises.

Shadow has posed:
These are clearly /quality/ goons -- quick reactions, minimum of time wasted saying 'huh?', none of that everybody-leave-your-posts-and-rush-to-the-sound amateur hour clownery you see all too often these days. Everyone gets their weapons out, one of them reaches for their mike to call in the disturbance, but only the three people closest to the sound actually leave their post to investigate.

Of course, that /does/ leave the two that are Canary's actual targets uncovered, and while they're doing their best to stay vigilant, they're clearly nervous and the noise is distracting enough that there's visible gaps in their scanning wide enough to drive a forklift through...

Black Canary has posed:
Black Canary stretches as she waits for htem to not be looking at her - as she uses her own concentrated Canary Cry to stun the two - and quickly and easily takes them down. With the sonic mine on the roof causing chaos and interfering with radio communications, Canary has an easy time taking them out then slips into the building. Sonics are her weapons and her main advantage - noises that debilitate normal people don't bother her a bit.

Shadow has posed:
Contrary to the outside, the warehouse interior is brightly lit. *very* brightly. There even appear to be extra lights strung up against walls and from the ceiling, almost as if someone wanted there to be absolutely no shadows for anyone to hide in. They also have people patrolling, alerted by the call from outside - and drawn to the brief spurt of noise when Canary opened the door.
