Jailhouse Rock
Date of Scene: 05 March 2019
Location: Holding cells, X-Men base
Synopsis: Samuel visits James Proudstar while the latter is being held after attacking the X-Men
Cast of Characters: Warpath, Cannonball

Warpath has posed:
James Proudstar is sitting in his containment sell. He has some bandages from the fight, where he was shot with the machine gun mostly. Though those bandages can probably be removed soon. He is presently doing as he has for most of his wakeful time since he came in willingly. Sitting cross-legged in the center of the cell on the floor. Quietly meditating.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie comes walking into the room. He has a book in his hands. He will walks in and look at James for a moment, and says "She was one of my students did ya know that?"

Warpath has posed:
James Proudstar opens up his eyes. Guilty eyes, as they look up at Samuel. "I did not," he says quietly. "How is she?" James asks, his deep voice kept quiet. A low rumble, but one that carries the notes of concern Samuel will have been familiar hearing in James' voice at some points in the past.

James lowers his gaze. His shoulders are more slumped than Samuel has ever seen before. Even at his worst, he's not looked this defeated and resigned that the other man can remember.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, a bit and says "Scarred a bit, with time Ah think she will be ok. " He will grab a chair and pull it over to look at the man "Having someone to hate for lose helps. Ah hated the coal company for Pa, even as Ah went to work for them. Realizing that there is no one you can blame sucks, and you have to learn to cope. So, you thought how your gonna honor him?"

Warpath has posed:
James Proudstar looks down at his hands as he has them resting on his knees. "I've failed him already, in failing to find those who killed the rest of our tribe," James says quietly. That massacre very likely might be news to Samuel. "I don't know where else to look anymore," he says in a voice rife with self-flagellation.

"I owe so many debts now, Sam. To an entire school that has every reason to hate and fear me," James says quietly. "Our own kind, who I should have been helping." That was always what drove him, with the Hellions. To have done as he did? Speaks perhaps of his desperation, or how far he'd sunk into despair.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and says "Sorry to hear about your tribe, you should have called, we would have come helped ya search." He tells the man. He sits on the chair, stradled backwards. "You know you have only failed if you give up. Ah aint going to say Ah know what it is like being Native American, John, or even try the whole one of my best friends line. I do know what it is like being from a small community that some folks feel like family even if not blood, and some folks are your sworn enemies. If anything happened to all of them, I would be beside myself. Ah will look into it, and see if Ah can find out anything. Don't know what Scott plans on doing with ya yet to be honest, but pretty much up to him. ONe way or the other your going to have to learn from this.

Warpath has posed:
The immense Native American gives a small, saddened nod. "It has been a while now. There are no more leads I have. There was a Hellfire Club mask. But... I do not think it was them." James' eyes stare down at the floor, searching about it. Though there are no new revelations to be found there.

"I am sorry, Sam. I wanted Xavier, to make him pay for what I thought he did to John. I thought it would just be X-men, and him," James says quietly. "I especially didn't want you... didn't want Rahne," he says, his throat seeming to tighten especially at the latter name.

"She ripped me a new one. A little bit ago," James says quietly. He sighs. "As I deserve." He looks back up, the man's dark eyes going back to Samuel. "The girl, Erika? Please tell her how sorry I am? She put up a good struggle. Had I been a normal human, she would have got away."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Ah will say oddly enough she does seem proud that you thought she did well. And you wanted the X-Men, you do realize, AH, Rahne, Dani, and of us could possible be X-men currently? " He will let the man think a bit about that, and says "So, why ya think it was not the hellfire club?" He will ask him."

Warpath has posed:
James Proudstar gives a little shake of his head. "I am not sure. But... I think it may have been left, to point me that direction." He doesn't elaborate as to why, for now. The tall Apache moves a hand to rub his chest. "You should be an X-man. You packed quite the whallop," James tells Samuel, his deep bass voice kept soft. Like a rumble of thunder in the far distance.

"The one on the machine gun. I was not familiar with him. He did well also. I do not know how he made it to the gun," James says, shaking his head. He sighs. "He should not have had to. I... I have lost the last bit of honor I had left," James says, head down.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Well you are gonna have to work on earning it back. The kid on the machine gun is another of my students. Ah am in charge of the current class of the New Mutants, and to be honest your a bit lucky my second in command did not come with us. " He will look at the man and says the name "Illyana." There are a few folks around here gonna probably hold a grudge for a while. Ah will be honest, Ah thought you might have been mind controlled or something." He sighs a bit to this and says "Odd question, you know anyone who does slight of hand and stage magic?"

Warpath has posed:
James Proudstar's head is still hanging. "No... this was... all my own doing," James says quietly. "I... harbored my anger for so long. I had nothing left but it..." James clears his throat, looking up to Sam. He looks defeated, head hanging and shoulders slumped. "All I've ever wanted was to protect other mutants. How could I have done this?" he says, sighing.

He falls quiet for quite awhile before shaking his head again. "I'm glad you have Rahne. I hope you ever take for granted, how important it is to have people around you like her." His eyes drop to stare at his cell, as if he's thinking how he took that for granted when he had it.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods a bit and says "We all still talk, Amanda is probably one Ah hear from the least." He will pull out a pencile, and a map from his back pocket, and slide it through the food slot "Ah need you to mark where all the mines and traps you put down."

Warpath has posed:
James Proudstar takes the pencil and map. He writes something down on the edge of the map. "Key in this on my remote. The mines and any defenses will self-detonate. Nothing that would break your shield," James says quietly, as if he'd planned ahead for cleaning up and not leaving anything dangerous behind. "There are four pit traps. Plastic spikes. I worried about Polaris. You can blast them, cave them in," he says, marking them on the map. He passes the map and pencil back out through the small slot then. James gives a small sigh. "I can't get Rahne's voice out of my head. Saying I was as bad as Empath," he says quietly.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods a bit and says "I think ya did bad, but not quite as bad as that asshat." He will admit. "You did not take pleasure in it, thats the difference." He tells the man "But even if they let ya out of here your gonna have a path to walk to get back in her good graces." He takes the map back, and slides the book he had with him. It is a sci-fi paperback. "Thought ya might want something to read." He will tell the man. "I plan on talking to Scott soon and seeing what he says, anything you want told to him?

Warpath has posed:
James Proudstar looks at the book and says with guilty on his voice, "Thank you Sam. I think... I would not be able to make myself read anything. Not for awhile." He looks towards the cell. "I need to focus my thoughts on what I did. On how I could have... let myself get to that point." He gently slides the book back.

"If they decide to give me to SHIELD? Well, I'll take the book if they let me," he says, in a tone as if he thinks he probably deserves to be given to SHIELD.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms, and says "Ah don't know if you will be sent to shield. Ah know where Ah would want to send you if your gonna spend jail time, but to be honest even my Idea, Ah aint sure is the best.

Warpath has posed:
"Wherever it is, I could not argue against it," James says quietly, the Native American's eyes staring ahead dully as he reflected on the moment. "Where is it you think of?" he asks Samuel quietly, the man's deep bass voice a soft rumble in the confined space.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over to the man and simpley says "Genosha." You would get more honest treatment, but would also put ya a bit into Magneto's hands."

Warpath has posed:
"I would think that would be better than SHIELD," James says quietly. He pauses, eyes down as if thinking for a few moments. "Rahne... said Xavier and his people... believe in second chances. I'm not sure I can convince myself that I deserve one. Not that it is up to me," James more thinks aloud, than says. He looks up to Samuel though to see what he thinks.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks at the man and says "Even if you don't think you deserve it, then think of it this way. Your getting a chance to honor your brother and yourfamily and tribe. You get a chance to show people that a Proudstar is strong enough, even after hittting rock bottom to get up, and climb the mountain again.

Warpath has posed:
Sam's words just bring a twitch of the muscle's in James' jaw. But his head lifts up just a little bit, and Samuel can likely get a feeling that his words hit home somewhat. "Thank you Sam. You are a true friend," he says quietly. "I hope I get the chance to make up to you what I've done. Make it up to everyone. But you and Rahne especially." After a brief pause. "Maybe I should put Cyclops at the top of the list. The.. knife thing."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods his head a bit and says "Might be a good thing. Now, I need to go deal with a few more things. I will try to come check on you tommorrow." He tells the man. He will lift the map "I will get these disabled."

Warpath has posed:
James Proudstar gives Samuel a bow of his head, a show of respect. He sits for a long time after Samuel leaves, just staring ahead. Until finally, after a lot of thinking, he closes his eyes to meditate again.
