Trial of Nuala Duvall: Diplomatic Excursion
Date of Scene: 06 March 2019
Location: Xandar - Asgardian Embassy
Synopsis: Loki meets with Rhomann Dey about Nuala Duvall to try to come to an agreement.
Cast of Characters: Nuala Duvall, Loki

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Xandar, the capital of the Nova Empire. The heart of many parts of their government. Shining streets, happy people, and massive buildings which display their grandness. The halls of the Ambassador's Hall, home of policital diplomacy has a massive ceiling in a long hallway, gold and black trim that shows an elegant expression to say "Culture" to those who arrive. Many embassies for offworld diplomats are housed in the complex, giving them each a political refuge for those who wish it for their empire. Naturally, some of the larger ones, such as the Kree, or Triceratons are well fortified. Others such as the Galactic Federation need not such tenuous arrangements. All of them, however, show pride for their individuality.

Loki has posed:
Asgard's embassy has never been prominent, and it had quietly been vacant for some time: the people of Asgard, after the event of Ragnarok, pulled in many of their members who had been out in the further reaches of space. It was a time to come home and collect themselves, to many, including diplomats. Still, Asgard did not give up its hold here, and Loki makes the most of this. He arrives, making his status as Prince Heir to Asgard apparent, named high diplomat for the throne. Loki doesn't skimp on titles today: it's important to come with considerable influence.

He is regally patient to await a meeting with the leadership, over an interesting matter: the query after a Nuala Duvall, who is currently located in Asgard's new home. Loki's approach is businesslike: he is there to learn what Nova wants, and make bargains. The last part, of course, being what Loki /decided/ his mission is.

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Rhomann Dey, the leader of the Nova Corps, seems to have caught wind of the matter that would normally have been far below his standing. However, between Asgard's opposition to Agent Duvall's extraction, and the matter that she had made a rather major infraction against the Corps, the word that an ambassador of Asgard has been sent to discuss the matter caught his attention. He walks in, looking rather confident in his own authority. The door opens, and he appears with the uniform he is known for, the three glowing lights upon the chestpiece.

"Prince Loki," he greets, "I am Nova Prime, Rhomann Dey. It is an honor for you to come so far to meet with us here on Xandar."

Loki has posed:
"Well met, Nova Prime," Loki says, with a well-practiced, smooth movement of partial bow, though his eyes remain up. Loki is a long time master of resepectful movements that still do not give up an inch of his own regal bearing.

"While the trip was far, it was very important to us to speak, and I am able to bridge distances without difficulty. Distance should not be a barrier between us."

"It is an honor to me and Asgard; your beautiful city is an echo of the might and splendor of a home that we do dearly miss: I appreciate the welcome here, for both my people, and on a personal level," answers Loki smoothly, with just the right amount of wistful distance in his eyes: a memory of Asgard's beauty.

Nuala Duvall has posed:
As Loki bows, Rhomann seems to be taken slightly off guard, and bows in return belatedly, so not to be seen as rude. He's a warrior, not a politician, something that might be clear from his less elegant demeanor and a sturdy stance.
"Yes, well, I'm glad you like it," he says, "I am sorry for what happened to Asgard." He frowns, as if he isn't certain what to say to the memory of Asgard beyond an apology.

Loki has posed:
Loki the politician was prepared for that, and gives a lifeline quickly to the warrior, as he adjusts neatly to the context of the meeting. Loki knew a bit of who he was potentially going to meet, but not enough: much of this finesse must be done on the fly.

"I will carry your condolences back with me to our king," Loki says, relaxing out of his initial greeting, folding his hands together at the small of his back, a move that does draw his shoulders back and out. It is intentionally a mild military cue: respectful and subtle. "I do wish my visit was based around an examination of ambiance and architecture," Loki says, with a quirk of a smile. "If you would prefer to get to the subject directly, I am amenable," the trickster adds, in a tone he often uses when handling a militant like Thor. "That of a particular Nuala Duvall." Loki's expression leaves no particular emotional attachment or deep interest.

Nuala Duvall has posed:
"Yes, Agent Duvall," Rhomann echoes. "She is wanted for a rather significant crime," he says. "She broken the Non-interference Pact that the Nova Empire signed in order to maintain Earth's autonomy, preventing them from becoming...a challenge for the rest of the galaxy." He folds his hands behind his back, "You understand our concerns, surely, if you have spent any significant time with the terrans."

Loki has posed:
"I have. The Terrans, as you refer to them, are often irresponsible, and need to be guided with caution and temperance," Loki says. "They lack the objectivity of a long life, and can be rash and impulsive. I agree with your stance, and that of Nova." Loki gives a smooth incline of his head. "Can I inquire on what detail she broke the pact?"

"I do understand that you wish to punish her for her crime," he adds. "My people do owe her a debt, for her assistance in the rescue of many of those who were refugees during the collapse of Asgard." Loki closes his eyes a moment, as if the memory were hard. Maybe it is. "And honor of such a debt is of a high importance among Asgardians."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
"Yes, well," the Nova Prime answers. "She appeared before an international committee called the Un," he describes, misunderstanding the name of the UN. "During that she revealed Nova's existence, and biproxy creating a hazard that Nova technology would fall into the hands of the Earth cultures. Needless to say, it is something that once is done, can not be very well undone." He takes in a breath and holds it, considering the Asgard stance. "I understand your commitment to her. I can't say that what she did was ill-motivated," he clarifies. "Just highly illegal."

Loki has posed:
"What is the punishment for an infraction such as that?" Loki questions evenly, without any sort of blink. "Of course, she did violate your law and what sounds to be a sworn oath to Nova. I agree those should incur a trial, at the very least."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
"Well, assuming she is convicted, and I fully expect she would be," Rhomann states, puffing his chest a little. "She would be court martialled and imprisoned. An offense like this could be between twenty-five and forty years." He pauses, "Not long by your standards, I understand," he adds. "But for most of the rest of a human life span."

Loki has posed:
"Yes, that's, what, a third of theirs? More?" Loki asks, a somewhat flippant edge to his tone. Humans aren't exactly his most favorite things, and he finds their sad little life spans --- sad. But he'll still bargain appropriately. "Well. I wish to prevent any altercation between Asgard and Nova over this woman; Asgard must repay its debt to her in some manner. Assistance in her criminal matter does not please me, as I do not wish to block justice, but perhaps we can discuss a direction where honor and justice can both be treated," Loki slyly angles.

Nuala Duvall has posed:
"Both justice and honor," Rhomann echoes. "They seem to be at odds in this case," he declares. "Nuala's actions were not morally wrong, yet they are illegal, and I am tasked with upkeeping these laws as the Nova Prime. Honor is not my responsibility, as crass as that may sound."

Loki has posed:
"Ultimately you would prefer her to be extracted here. Asgard has an honor debt to protect her as she protected our people, while she remains in our custody. As I said before, I would not want her to evade justice on counts she is guilty of, even if her future actions said much to her character," Loki spins smoothly.

"And I do not want to see strife between us: it is, indeed, protocol to observe peaceful negotiations for this extraction, yes? Perhaps there is a way to extract her that does not require our two motives to be at odds. For now, I ask for time. A pittance, for us. We are long lived; she will no doubt act rashly, and will not remain confined to our new Asgard location."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
"Indeed," Rhomann says. "You seem of honest character, and sincere," he declares solemnly. "I do not wish to see her overly punished," he adds. "I simply must uphold the laws of the Nova Corps," he re-iterates. "How much time would you like in order to organize things on your side of the table?"

Loki has posed:
"Eight turns of your primary planet, and I'll return here after I have spoken to my king," suggests Loki coolly, quickly figuring out some math mentally. Should be enough time in earth's scope. And while Loki can travel very quickly, eight turns is still a ridiculously fast turnover for normal travel: it should still more than impress. It isn't like Nova could reach Earth in that time.

"I do have the power to make decisions, but it is my preference to be certain I do indeed have all current facts from both ends of this to properly assist."

Nuala Duvall has posed:
Rhomann Dey's brow arches. "Eight?" he says with a hint of surprise. "I would have expected you to say much longer than that," he admits. "The Sol system is quite a range from here. Remember that subspace communication could be a challenge. If you need longer, I'm certain it can be arranged," he offers with an extend of his hand.

Loki has posed:
"Asgard itself may be destroyed, but many powers and abilities remain to us," Loki says lightly. The manipulator is in strong, full swing, in his political element. The suggestion that Asgard is still very mighty is important.

"Should my king need more time to mull it over, I will still return personally to keep everyone updated," Loki says, with a smooth bow and acceptance of the hand, very polite, without lowering his eyes.
