Checking Up
Date of Scene: 13 March 2019
Location: Morrigan's Apartment
Synopsis: Jason Blood comes to check in on Morrigan and they talk about Etrigan, Morrigan's father and dinner plans.
Cast of Characters: Morrigan MacIntyre, Etrigan (Jason Blood)

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Hellboy was in the news. Having saved someone from a tragic event. Really he was in the right place at the right time and managed to chase of one pissed off individual. But not before Morrigan was hurt. The news hadn't released her name, but it wasn't hard for someone to find out that it was her.

On this evening Morrigan's not in the hospital, she'd been released and tried to dive back into things, but she was realizing that she needed to probably take a day off and stay in for the night. Given she's more of a night owl, the woman is currently taking down the police tape that was around her rooftop apartment and situating things out to be packed given she's apartment hunting.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason had set a simple spell to let him know when she was released. Things that once were miraculous could now be accomplished with a smartphone, but he still liked the old spells, laid on the skein of reality like spider's thread. Tug just so and you get what you want.

He knocks on the door carefully, a welcome-home arrangement of flowers in one hand, a bottle of whiskey in the other, his trenchcoat pulled closed against the lingering chill of the winter.

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan's violet eyes look to the door when there is a knock. There's a bit of a hesitance, but she manages to get the courage up to go and answer it. A peek outside and then she's smiling as she opens the door, "Jason, what a nice surprise." she states in a warm tone as she steps back to allow him in. She was dressed in jeans and a cream colored sweater that was just a few sizes too big for her. But it was more for comfort than style. "Come on in, I wasn't expecting company, but I'm sure we'll manage." she muses.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason Blood smiles, "Don't worry, I'm fairly self-sufficient. I doubt I'll impose too heavily on your resources," he says. He offers up the flowers and takes the bottle towards the kitchen, "I do hope you have some decent tumblers. Drinking out of plastic cups is just a little too Animal House for me," he says.

He pours a bit in both, adding some ice. Taking off his coat, he's wearing a simple dark red button-down over a black undershirt, along with dark slacks and well-shined shoes. "I'm given to understand you had something of a rough time in the last week or so. And, well, I'd never quite gotten together with you to straighten things out after you saw...well, him."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan gives a grin to that, "I don't think you're going to be an inconvenience." she chuckles. "Yes, there's tumblers in the kitchen." she nods to that as she retrieves a few and settles them down for him. "I don't think I've used plastic cups in my place since I moved in." she shakes her head. She leans against the doorway and watches him as he pours the whiskey.

Then there's a soft sigh, "A rough time is an understatement." she looks to him. "Apparently my father has a very large temper and doesn't like the word no. Can't say I'm surprised. But some large red...man with a stone hand arrived just in time." she admits. "And I don't think there's anything to straighten out? Mainly just...discuss." she states, but she has a soft smile on her face.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason Blood smiles, "I'm willing to answer any questions, I think, within reason. You might not like some of the answers. I know I don't."

"Stone hand, you say? I've heard rumors of such, although I haven't met it in the flesh. So to speak," he says, moving to sit down and offering her a chance to do the same. "Most importantly: how are you doing?"

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan takes her tumbler of whiskey and there's a smile to him, "Sitting down first is a good idea." she tells him as she heads over to the couch and takes a seat. "I think my first question is...does he have a name and is he actually a demon." she asks him. There's a pondering moment and then she looks to him.

"Yes, stone hand. Think his name is Hellboy given the news article." she states. "I'm guessing he's a demon or something, but helps out." she smiles to that. "I'm...doing alright. I mean, the bite is still healing but the doctors said it wouldn't leave much of a scar." she tells him quietly as she pulls the sweater back from her other shoulder, it's still bandaged, but there's bruising around it. "How are you since the frog ate you?" she asks him with a sober look.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason Blood raises an eyebrow, "Hellboy, huh? I suppose they are running out of good names for the underwear on the outside crowd. I guess once somebody grabs the name Superman, it's all downhill from there."

He takes a long drink from his glass and sits back, "He is a demon. His name is Etrigan. He and I have been bound for more than a milennia. He is a very, very bad creature, but there have been times when I was, too. I'm trying to be better. With limited success. The frog was...unfortunate. I hate having to rely on Etrigan's help, but he's better at the...brute force."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
"I guess that's his public name? I'm sure if he's a demon he's got some long one somewhere that only his mother calls him." Morrigan states with a bit of a grin. There's a curious look to him when he comments about Superman, she'd let him find that one out on his own.

She sips at the whiskey as he talks. Completely focused on what he's saying. "Everyone has a past. Sometimes there's a lot of darkness and sometimes there's not." she nods to this. "Etrigan, sounds very demonish, yes." she admits. "With limited success? Is this due to Etrigan or just old habits?" she asks him truthfully.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason Blood considers, "I'm not entirely sure. Don't get me wrong, Etrigan certainly doesn't help. He likes nothing more to see me fall off my 'high horse'. He likes to remind me that I have blood on my own hands that he didn't put there," he sighs.

"I have not been a good man. Maybe I never was one. Sometimes what I remember is...tricky," he says. "I am not naturally kind nor generous nor keen for the company of my fellow man. I am a misanthrope, plain and simple, better suited to books and darkness than light and company. I do not know where I'm going from one moment to the next. But I keep walking."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan gives a look to him and there's a dip of her head, "He sounds like an interesting entity." she admits. "But watching one fall isn't always the most satisfying thing even if one thinks it might be." she points out. "You lived through dark times. And times that I can't begin to understand fully. I can't judge you for that." she states in a quiet tone.

There's a moment of silence as she settles her tumbler down and turns a little towards him, looking him over, "And yet you came to check up on a woman that you've only met a handful of times and asked you to dinner." she smiles to that. "Does Etrigan make surprise appearances? Or do you call him forward?" she asks him.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason Blood pours himself another couple of fingers of whiskey, "I call him. But if I don't call him for a while, he begins to...torment me. I can't keep him bound forever. I have to let him off the leash, so to speak, if I don't want him...fouling the house we share."

"And you can certainly judge me for that. I do. I have met many, many others more than happy to do the same. I came to check on you because I felt I owed you an explanation. And because...you were nice. I enjoyed your company. Nothing more complex than that."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan gives a soft nod to that, "Sounds like a good idea not to keep him pent up. Don't know what he might get up to when you aren't around." she tells him. "Can he hear what I say? Or does he go dormant when he's not out?" she asks him curiously. "I'm sorry about the odd questions, I just haven't been around many that are like you." she admits.

Then there's a soft look to him, "How about I'm not one of the many, many others that have met you and thought that judging was a good idea." she chuckles. "You didn't owe me an explanation, but it's appreciated." she tells him. Then she curls her legs up on the couch, "I enjoy your company when you're around. Even if you like dark and brooding." she admits. "Do you have any questions for me while we're sharing things?" she asks after a moment.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason Blood waves a hand, "Curiosity is natural. He can, if he's paying attention, but often he's not. He's in whatever corner of Hell he happens to be nesting in at the moment. He gets distracted. He has his own...interests," he says with a bit of a sneer.

"I try not to brood too very much. At 1500 or so years old, it becomes a bit silly to behave like a mooning teenager, listening to sad songs and smoking clove cigarettes in the rain," he smiles. "My question would likely be: who are you, really, but I'm not sure you even know the answer to that yourself. You're no ordinary woman, stumbing by chance from brushes with the supernatural."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
"I'll make a note of that. Never want to chance pissing off a demon." Morrigan states with a bit of a grin. "I'm sure his interests might involve making people scream." she adds.

Though there's a bit of sobering when he speaks next and she gives a soft roll of her shoulders, "At that age I think you're allowed to do whatever makes you feel comfortable emotionally." she admits quietly. "Just as long as you don't start wearing all black and reading awful poetry." she grins to that. Then she looks down to herself, "I don't know." she tells him softly. "Harry said I have the ability to practice magic, but I'm not even sure where to begin with that." she shakes her head. "Does that bother you?" she asks him.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason Blood smiles, "I'm pretty soft on poetry, generally speaking. So long as it is honest. The longer I live, the more I've come to prefer sincerity to artifice, even when it's attractive."

He shakes his head, "No. It interests me. There are a thousand reasons why someone can have the capacity for magick. Bloodlines, fates, spells, curses. Simple damned luck of the draw. The trick is likely finding just what it is about you that's drawing you to such things. Like tends to attract like, after all."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
"I said awful poetry, not good poetry." Morrigan points out with a soft smile. "If you want to read poetry I'm definitely not going to be the one to stop you." she tells him. Then she leans forward to collect her glass again and take a sip of whiskey.

"Or having a psychotic vampire for a father." she states quietly as she settles the glass onto her knee. "Who bites their kid? I don't get it." she rubs her face gently. "Do you think it might be my own nature drawing me to things?" she looks to him as she leans her cheek against the back of her hand. "I'd still like to have dinner with you. Unless you're against dinner dates due to your nature." she tells him.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason Blood looks away for a moment, "The universe is built on fathers bickering with their children. Every father thinks he's god at first and then finds out he's not up to the task of it," he says. "Do you think he wanted to kill you? Or did he want to make you like him? Or did he simply lose control?"

"And I absolutely would like to have dinner with you, yes. One of the few benefits of my...condition, as you put it, is that I have a lot of old friends and I know my way around the secret places and the hidden spots. I can show you restaurants most people don't even know exist."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan listens to him and there's a curiousness that falls over her features, was he speaking from experience? She doesn't ask for fear of the answer. Or not wanting to upset him. "I think I said something that made him lose control. I think I got that ability from my mother." she admits with a sad look.

Then she shakes herself and looks to him, a smile curling her lips upwards, "Well, if you'd like to surprise me with where dinner is, I trust you." she admits to that. "And I think I'll be fine with Etrigan. Unless he tries to eat me like Toxin did." she muses to that. "And no, I have no ulterior motives. I just enjoy your company and would like to get to know you more." she adds. In case he was going to ask.

Etrigan (Jason Blood) has posed:
Jason Blood smiles, "I would like to surprise you, yes, he says. "I will say this: you don't want Etrigan's attention. I'm not trying to frighten you off - I genuinely do like you. But he is not sane or human or good. People often think they understand demons, because they watch a few horror movies or listen to ghost stories or even see a bit of magick, real live magick, performed right in front of their eyes."

"But the truth of them is so much worse. So much," he says, closing his eyes for a moment. "And Etrigan is among the worst of his kind. Which doesn't mean he can't be charming. He's brimming with charisma, that one," he shakes his head and pushes up to his feet slowly.

"I'll make arrangements for that dinner. In the meantime, I'll leave you to your...recovery..."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
"I don't think I'm going to be trying to get Etrigan's attention. Much more interested in his human counterpart." Morrigan states with a soft smile. "I will remember that though. Just in case I do ever come face to face with him." she adds. "I can't possibly begin to understand most paranormal things. I'm going to learn though. Mostly because surviving is on my list of things to do." she nods to that.

When he rises she looks up to him and then unfolds herself from the couch, "Thank you for checking in on me. I wasn't sure if I should call. I didn't want to really bother you when we hardly knew each other. If something else happens I'll let you know though." she admits. "I look forward to dinner, Jason. I'll walk you out. The door keeps sticking since it's new." she chuckles.
