What Happens When Two Teleporters Get Together
Date of Scene: 23 March 2019
Location: Xavier's School
Synopsis: Kurt and Blink bump into each other and compare teleporting styles, with Cyclops giving input
Cast of Characters: Nightcrawler, Blink, Cyclops

Nightcrawler has posed:
Kurt sighs a bit, pushing his hand through his hair. Despite the curfew on strange looking mutants being outside during daylight hours, Kurt had decided to hang out on the front porch as God had made him, dressed in a comfortable looking t-shirt and a pair of pants that allowed for his tail - one leg crossed over the other as he watches the children play on this weekend afternoon.

A beat, and he brings up his phone, looking down at it - using the tip of his tail to send texts out, a heady sigh passing his lips.

Blink has posed:
Clarice has settled into one of the guest bedrooms at the boat house that are normally used by parents when they come to visit their kids. Those who haven't met her would know she is not one of the students. The twenty-year-old looks a little too old to be a high schooler, and is not attending any of the college classes. Though there might have been mention of Lorna having someone from Genosha serving as security for her, who is at the school.

Right now? Clarice is heading from the boathouse back to the school. Though she could teleport there directly, she's decided to go for a walk and enjoy the gradually warming weather. She's picked up a dead branch for a walking stick, having broken off the extra little limbs that had stuck out to leave it mostly straight.

The stick thumps softly on the ground in time with the steps of the purple-haired mutant. The hair could be a dye job. Throw in the marks near her eyes and one might start to think mutant. But the sight of the vivid green irises of her eyes leave little doubt of Clarice's genetic history. She rounds the corner of the school, heading for the front door. She pauses a bit as she sees Kurt. The blue skin, fur, and the tail get only cursory glances from her before her eyes settle back on his face. "Um, hello," she says in a soft, gentle tone, raising her hand to give a little wave over in his direction.

Nightcrawler has posed:
Even contacts could be suspicious for the eyes, but in a world like this... yeah, people would probably jump right to mutant, honestly. Maybe even with the purple hair alone.

Luminescent yellow eyes track to the sight of the other mutant coming up, walking stick and all, the slightly cold breeze not bothering the fuzzy mutant one bit. But keeping his eyes on her as she heads to the front door, Kurt lifts one of his three-fingered hands up to wave to her. "Guten dag," he says. "It is a good day for a walk, yes?" she says.

Another moment.

"Kurt Wagner, I live in the school, ja?" he says, his gentle voice lifting up to carry to the purple-haired mutant. "And you must be the new person from Genosha. I am certain that you have been welcomed by everyone you met, but... still. Welcome," he says. "And if I can tell you where to find something, or you need anything, I can help with this," he says.

Blink has posed:
Blink walks the rest of the way over to Kurt and stops in front of him. Her soft smile grows a little as Kurt introduces himself. Clarice has a quick smile that comes readily, and she nods as he guesses her identity right. "Yes, I'm Clarice. Clarice Ferguson. Lorna's father sent me to help keep her safe. And also to help her get around more easily. I'm also called Blink. Because I can teleport people places. You know, like, blink of an eye. I guess." She gives a little shrug and a grin at the last part.

"It's nice to meet you Kurt," Clarice tells him. Her eyes go to the castle-turned-school. "It's really a beautiful place. And the people here have been very welcoming too. I appreciate your offer. Are you a... teacher here?" she asks, guessing that perhaps from the sense of Kurt's age.

Nightcrawler has posed:
"I would say this is one of the safest places that one of our kind can be already. But with the number of times that the mansion has been attacked..." Kurt lets his voice trail off, bright smile showing his fangs afterwards. "It probably isn't a bad idea. And if you are a teleporter?" he says. "This is like me. The safest way to deal with something, sometimes, is to just retreat. And zipping as far away as you can..." he makes a walking motion with his odd fingers.

"That is the best way to deal with it," he says.

"I do what I can around the school," he says. "Sometimes that means teaching an odd class, or substituting, but officially, I am a recruiter. To go and find children that have been identified as mutants and present the haven that is this school to them," he says.

With a gesture back towards the school, he adds, "Genosha is a beautiful place, too. And I feel we have similar goals... although we do not share means," she says.

Blink has posed:
Hearing that Kurt is also a teleporter causes Clarice's face to light up brilliantly. "You are too!? Oh that's wonderful. I've met so few others," she tells him, beaming a smile over. "If you have any tips, I would love to hear them," she tells him, something in her tone suggesting she's been through a learning curve since her power manifested.

"Yes, avoiding trouble is best. But I'm also trying to practice how I can help when it cannot be avoided," Clarice tells him. "I've been allowed to practice..." she says, and then trails off. Her eyes dart about speculatively, as she realizes she isn't sure if Kurt is someone she can mention the hidden below ground base to. So she doesn't. "I've practiced with some others. Rogue and Pixie." She leaves it at that.

Clarice's face lights up. "Genosha -is- beautiful. I've taken a few of the teachers to the beach there already. And offered if they would like to set up a trip somewhere for the students, to help take them there and back," she says. "I guess some are feeling a little constrained by this curfew. Because of the Sentinels." The last word makes her face drop a bit with concern.

Nightcrawler has posed:
"It's a great skill to have," Kurt says, waggling his tail behind himself, stretching out his arms over the back of the chair he was in. "Perhaps we can practice sometime, but I just... focus on where I'd like to be, and bear down on my whole body, and poof. I am there," he says, making a gesture. "So not letting my mind wander is important. I'm not sure how yours worked," he says.

"So you have practiced with some of the X-Men," he admits, noting the darting eyes with a note of mischief in his own tone.

"Pixie can teleport as well, I think. With magic, ja?" he says, leaning forward in his seat, tail darting behind himself.

"The curfew has been difficult. Especially for someone such as me," he says. But those sentinels draw his face soberly. "I think we should let the students visit - it is important to have a place wher eyou can run around and be... yourself," he says.

Blink has posed:
Blink's face lights up a little bit as he mentions the X-men. "Oh, good, then you know. Scott said I should keep the existence of that secret. I figured, best to stay quiet until I know it is ok to mention," the young woman says with a soft, almost bashful smile.

"It helps me to know an area. If I've been there before, especially. If not? Like if I wanted to go to... Kenya? I'd have to study maps and pictures and things even to get within a few miles of where I wanted to go. But once I've been there, my accuracy gets much better," Clarice explains of her teleporting. "A first time like that, I open my portals WAY up in the air so I won't hurt anyone accidentally. And then, well, seeing through my own portal is not nearly as good as being there. But it helps and I can open them closer and closer to the ground until it's safe to step through," she explains.

Nightcrawler has posed:
"It's almost like magic for you then," Kurt says, tail waggling behind himself. "And no, pleased that you decided to use discretion," he says. "It's harder to keep this place safe, if everyone knows about it," he says with a grin. "My own feels a little more instinctual, than yours does," he says. "But it sounds like you could cross oceans - maybe even planets if you wanted to," he says.

Blink has posed:
Clarice is standing by the front steps. She's carrying a large old stick that she looks to have broken the smaller branches from to make a walking stick out of. She's been staying out at the boathouse, so might have walked up from there.

She's talking with Kurt who is on the front steps outside. Clarice gets a shy smile at the comment. "Oh, I don't know about that. I mean, thank you. It's just how my power works." Clarice glances up at the mention of planets. "One or two people have asked me how far I can go. I've gone to the other side of the world. I think maybe I could reach the moon. I've never tried because of the dangers of it though. That I can see it at least, makes me feel more comfortable than... wow, I'd probably be terrified to try an actual planet somewhere."

Nightcrawler has posed:
"Well, there's a lot of danger there, too, such as being able to breathe," Kurt jokes, his smile turning up to show his fangs a little more.

"I feel the same way. There's a sense of dread if I feel I'm going to teleport /into/ something. And I don't think I've ever ended up going through with it, even to test," he says. "So I can see where..." Kurt leans back in his chair, in his shirt and pants, tail still waggling about as he stays on the front porch, in a swing.

"You would not wish to go through with it. Perhaps that is a way of your power telling you 'no, this is the limit'?" he says.

Cyclops has posed:
Scott steps around to the front of the mansion, his yellow and black racing shirt, brown in one shoulder where a large ammount of grease and oil somehow ended up on his shoulder. He holds a blue shop towel in his hand and is running it over the back of his hand over and over and over as he walks towards the two teleporter powered mutants. "Oh." He says with a grin flashing across his face as he looks up and spots the pair. "I was hoping you two would meet. And before you get funny Kurt, it's not mutationist, it's because you're both kind and caring." Scott says, his glasses hiding the truth behind his eyes and he then gives Clarice a kind nod.

Blink has posed:
Clarice motions with one of her hands as Kurt mentions the whole vacuum issue, as if that's exactly why she hasn't tried it. As the blue-skinned mutant goes on, Clarice's eyes open a little wider. "Oh, so do you... do you just disappear and appear, yourself?" Clarice asks. "I open portals. Like, doorways between the two spots. And then step through. So I wouldn't appear in anything. Though, the portal could hurt someone badly if it opened on top of them," she explains.

"So I wonder, if looking through my portal is enough for you? It helps me a lot, but it's not like being there, for me," she explains. She also doesn't have Kurt's directional sense though, their powers working differently.

Clarice looks up as Scott approaches. Her face lights up in a beaming smile. "Hello Scott," she says, giving him a little wave. "Yes, we were just meeting. I didn't realize there was a teleporter at the school," she tells him.

Nightcrawler has posed:
"I think the scientific explanation is dimension hopping. Into a hell dimension, and out again," says Kurt, crinkling up his nose at that. "But it /feels/ like I'm just disappearing and reappearing my whole self," he says. A thought, though, at Clarice's suggestion. "That is an interesting thought," he says, straightening up. "I've tried it through video cameras, and I didn't have enough of a physical sense to do it like that," he says.

"But a portal might be different, right?" he says. A pause, though, and he shows his fangs in a grin. "But then again, if there is a portal... I can just step through," he offers, making a gesture.

Scott's approach has him looking up to smile. "Hey, Scott," says Kurt. A quirk of his brow. "Trying to hook me up?" he says with a laugh. "I think I do fine on my own," he says, his smile only getting wider.

Cyclops has posed:
"I am not a matchmaker Kurt, I just thought you would get along." Scott says with a shrug of his shoulders as he keeps cleaning his hands.

Then Scott looks to the front lawn and out to the road beyond. "Why not test that theory here? No one's around as it's still sorta spring break." Scott smirks, plus they're both already on the front porch, why not.

Blink has posed:
Hearing how Kurt's teleportation works brings a soft gasp from Clarice. "Another dimension," she says in astonishment. "And you called -mine- magic?" she says, her voice taking on warm notes of teasing to Kurt. "Well... it could still be helpful. It can take me awhile to get my portals down to the ground of a new area. If you could see through my portal and then safely get me to the ground? Then I could open one right back to here for instance," she tells him. "Or, that is, if you can take others with you?"

The talk of matchmatching just gets a shy smile and perhaps tiny bits of color in Clarice's cheeks. No sign that she's upset, just the twenty-year-old seems bashful about some things a little more than girls her age normally are.

Clarice looks at the front lawn. "If it is ok. Logan had said I shouldn't practice outside." But if Scott says it is ok on this occasion, he's the one Logan sent her to after all.

"Let's see. I was looking at some pictures of Yosemite," Clarice muses. She moves a few steps away, beneath a tree so anything viewing from above won't see the portal as easily. She opens one up, purple energy swirling around it as it grows large with a soft *fwhoop* sound. It's looking down on the park and the area where the geysers are. Old Faithful is down there somewhere. The portal is several hundred feet in the air though. Clarice looks back to Kurt. "Can you teleport to the ground safely from here?"

Nightcrawler has posed:
"Well, there could be drones. Satellites, ja?" says Kurt. "At least that's what Logan is afraid of," Kurt tells Scott, grinning wider with his sharp teeth. A laugh comes from him. "A little bit," he says. "I just do it!" he says, "It is like jumping," he admits at that. "But ja, I can take others with me. There is a rude side effect that I have not mentioned yet, however," he says, crinkling his nose.

"There is a smell," he says. "Very unpleasant," he says.

Kurt pauses a few moments as Clarice makes the portal, waving it into view. Hopping up onto his feet, he moves to stare into it, bringing up his hand to scratch his cheek, narrowing his eyes at the portal.

"Yes," he says. "I can do this," he says. "But I feel it would be... straining. Because I am not going through the portal, I think. I am moving a longer distance than I ever had, to the place where this portal is showing me," he says, thoughtfully.

Cyclops has posed:
"Isn't it light lightning? Fastest path to the ground? I think you would know to go through the portal instead of the 'long way around'." Scott says, being more familiar with Kurt's powers than Clarice's, by far. "I mean, can you feel the park through the hole right there?" Scott asks, using the rag in hand to point at the rift in reality that is Clarice's powers. "The farthest you've done is like, half a mile, right? So if you can feel it, then it should be with in that range. Right?" Scott asks, theorizes, and looks to Clarice and back to Kurt with a grin. Can't hurt to try. "And if you get stranded, we'll come pick you up."

Blink has posed:
Blink listens to the two men discuss how Kurt's power works. It's in some ways like hers, but very different in other regards. Making for a very interesting metaphysical discussion from Clarice's point of view.

"If I needed to... I could step through the portal and be falling in the air. And then... I've come up with a way to use my portals to slow my fall and land me safely on the ground. Though so far I've only done it over water. And in the..." Clarice says, lowering her voice at the end to whisper, "... in the Danger Room. Where I won't be hurt if I mess up."

Clarice looks to Kurt, considering. "Could you step through into the air, and then teleport while you fall? Or would you still be going fast when you appear at your destination? I can make my portal face any direction. So I can fall down into one, and come out the other side falling up into the air so gravity slows me, for instance."

Nightcrawler has posed:
"But it doesn't 'feel' there," Kurt says, pointing at the portal. "It /feels/ there," he says, pointing vaguely to the west, still staring at the portal. "I don't know. Maybe you are right, and I will jump into the brimstone, but... her portal is not in the brimstone, ja?" he says, frowning.

"But that..." he says to Clarice's suggestion. "That, I could do," he says.

"And I know I could do that," he says. "We can try it out, I am confident in this," Kurt says to Clarice, still beaming a smile.

Cyclops has posed:
"Don't get yourself killed. Call me if something goes wrong." Scott says with a chuckle to himself before he turns back around and moves back towards the garage. Seems his time limit for chit chat is up, or he was just taking a break while some fluids drained. Either way he slowly makes his way back to the task at hand.

Blink has posed:
A smile grows across Blink's face as Kurt indicates he could do the aerial teleporting. "Just to be safe... there's a lake over there," she says, motioning towards a lake in the distance, seen through the portal. "I'll open one above it," she says. "I could get a portal right on the ground in about 2 or 3 tries from here, looking through it," she shares.

A new portal opens up. The first one, a tiny little bit of purple light can be seen in the sky over the lake. The new portal does indeed look down towards the lake at about a 30 degree angle. "There, even if it goes wrong you fall in the water. And you can see the shore," Clarice says. She closes the first portal then.

The young woman waves to Scott. "Good bye. Nice to see you again," She offers.

Nightcrawler has posed:
Kurt nods his head at that, as Scott scoots off, bringing up his hand to wave farewell to the other man. "He is nice, I promise," he tells Clarice. "Okay," Kurt says, flashing a smile to Clarice. Stepping forward nearer to her, he moves to take ahold of her hand, gently, leaning forward to look through the portal. "I do not think it will go wrong," he says.

"Are you ready? If I understand this right, I will bring you through and teleport you to the ground?" he asks, with a lash of his tail.

Blink has posed:
Blink takes hold of Kurt's hand. She holds it a lightly tightly as she looks through the portal at the height they are at. Her body is a little tense, but when the green eyes look over to Kurt, there is a light of trust in them. "Ok, I'm ready. I know you'll see us safe to the ground," she tells him with a quick nod of her head.

Clarice nods and then looks over to Kurt, letting him start them moving through the portal when he's ready. It's large enough they can both stride through easily, and there's no sensation of travel when they do. It'll be just like stepping off a cliff into the air.

Nightcrawler has posed:
And as soon as Kurt steps off that 'cliff' so to speak, and yanks Clarice through, well. This was Kurt's natural element. Falling, acrobatics, all sorts of things like that. And so when he steps through the gate, and yanks Clarice with him unintentionally, Kurt does twist as he suddenly starts to fall, twisting back around to grasp one of Clarice's legs with his...

Well, his foot. And suddenly, to Clarice's senses... well. They were standing safely on the ground, the smell of sulphur filling the air around them after the teleport. It always felt draining to go through the hell dimension that he stepped through, but... Kurt was more used to it than others. And it usually took far more than one teleport to do so.

"I can say that this experiment is a success, ja?" he says, pushing a hand through his slightly shaggy hair. "And if you needed, you could open a portal back home to here for the rest of the team?"

Blink has posed:
It might please Kurt to find that Clarice's body tucks in against his and turns with him in the air, so deftly that for a moment he could be forgiven if he felt he was working with a performer from his childhood circus back in Germany.

The pair appear on the ground. Clarice reaches up to brush fingers through her purple-tinted hair, straightening it. As she does, Kurt might get a view of ears that are pointed like an elf. Or Mr. Spock. And Clarice lets out a wonderfully warm sounding laugh. "Oh that was something," she says, a hand going to her stomach at the unfamiliar flipping sensation she felt as they changed dimensions.

Clarice's green eyes settle on Kurt. "Yes, a great success. You are very skilled, Kurt," she tells him, giving the X-man a warm, shy smile. She gives a quick nod of her head then. "I know the school very well by now, so I'm very accurate back to it," she says. She closes the portal way up in the air that they came through, and opens one just before them, motioning with her hand a little bolt of magenta flying through the air to where it opens. The other side is the grass beneath the trees, right where they started.

Nightcrawler has posed:
Of course, Kurt was quick to adapt to the changing situation, using her willingness to tuck in close to him to get a better grip, with both arms and one of his feets. But when they were sure to be safe, he releases her, taking a step back as the... well, the air smelled different here in Wyoming. He glances around a bit, as if in disbelief.

"I have never traveled so far, so quickly," he says, lail lashing as he flashes a smile. "Wunderbar!" he exclaims, his own chuckle leaving him. Eyes go to her ears, briefly, but Kurt was one of the last people in the world that would complain about people's looks, instead keeping his smile warm.

At the compliment, he bows, flourishing his hand to one side. "I am grateful. You are skilled too," he says. "This is a good team, right?" he says, glancing to the bolt now. "And what is with the bolts? This is energy that you create?" he asks, voice open and honestly curious.

Blink has posed:
Clarice holds out her hand and a short magenta javelin appears in it. "Yes, I can solidify my teleport power. And then throw it and cause a portal to appear, or else teleport something that it hits. Or even a part of what it hits," she tells him. "It's really no different than one I make myself," Clarice says. She opens a new portal, one that has the other side appear just a few dozen feet away. The same bit of magenta energy streaks from her empty hand to the portal to create it.

"But it's handy to have some already made for tough situations. I won't tire as much, and sometimes I can use a premade one faster than form a new one," she explains. Though when she did it from scratch, there didn't seem to be much delay at all."

Clarice smiles to Kurt softly. "You're right, we worked well together," she tells him. "You're such a good tumbler in the air. I didn't expect that. I mean, I didn't think you wouldn't be. Just, I'm not used to others being that good," she says.

Nightcrawler has posed:
"That is a secret of mine," Kurt says jovially. "I started out in the circus, you see," he says, glancing over to the portal. "But perhaps there is something in my genetics that gives me an edge too. Are you good in the air as well?" Kurt asks. "If so, I apologize for just grabbing you, but I wished to make certain that we were both safe," he says, inclining his head once to her.

"It is new to you," he says, as they sit on the other side of a portal, somewhere in Wyoming. There was a portal hanging out in the main yard at Xavier's, but...

"Do you have a similar story?" he questions. "Where did you grow up?" he asks.

Blink has posed:
Blink moves to sit beside Kurt, beside the lake in Yosemite National Park. "I won't tell anyone," Clarice tells Kurt with a small smile as he shares that with her. "It's just something I've found I'm good at. Tumbling and flipping and all," Clarice says. She smiles to Kurt and stands up, and then does a standing back flip, landing it cleanly with a little flourish.

She gives him a shy smile and the sits back down beside him. "A circus? I've never seen a circus before. That must have been a great place to grow up," she tells him, smiling a green-eyed smile over to the German mutant.

Clarice gives a little shake of her head. "No, I... I was a Genoshan slave. It's all I ever really knew. Until Magneto and the Brotherhood came and freed us," she tells him. "I was 13 then. When they took the collar off my neck," she says, looking down and giving a little shake of her head. "I've... been difficult for them to get used to how things are, everywhere else. They've been very patient with me. Princess Lorna especially," she says, voice warming as the mentions the green-haired mutant.
