A Night At The Gotham University Theater
Date of Scene: 30 March 2019
Location: Gotham University playhouse
Synopsis: Blink talks to Carrie after a Gotham U play about the injustices committed on the Apache
Cast of Characters: Carrie Kelley, Blink

Carrie Kelley has posed:
It had been a long road to this production if only due to the history behind it. Partially the actual, authentic history, and otherwise the history of the writer of the play with the theater troupe here. At the end the entire crew makes their final curtain calls, gives their bows, and dedicates the performance to their deceased friend whose photograph is signed by all his friends to be sent to the memorial where he's buried later. It's left on stage after, for any who may have also known him, to add their own sentiments before it's removed.

The crowd files out eventually. They always do. There's lots of chatter and commotion outside as players and other students talk, wrap things up, head to after play meals or just reminisce about the entire situation. Carrie usually joins them but in this case she's making one final round through the theater. Tomorrow would be the final clean up.

The redhead regards the entire stage from the sidelines a long few moments only to realize as her gaze shifts away to the seats that there's still another here. A small smile creeps over her at the sight of the woman. Emerging down the small set of stairs, she calls out, "Are you okay? If there's anything you'd like to talk about... Or if you need a few minutes... I understand."

Blink has posed:
Several Native Americans were in attendance. Including one whose large figure could not be missed, even in the dark. That man smiled to Carrie from the back of the theater before finally departing with the group that had accompanied him.

The rest of the audience trickle out, but Blink continues to sit in a chair, looking thoughtful, though often just looking down at her hands that are clasped together in her lap. As someone calls to her, Blink looks up. Realizing for the first time that all of the other audience have gone. She stands up, giving Carrie a better look at her. Black tights, and an unusual dark jacket with ties across the front and brown shoulders, leaving a view of pale skin where her upper chest shows some cleavage. Slender and Asian. Though her hair looks like it was died purple with even a little added magenta. A few marks along her eyes, purplish, like little dagger shapes that extend above and below her eyes, but seem birthmarks. And her eyes have an odd gleam to them, though it's difficult to make out more at this distance.

"I'm sorry. I just... I was just thinking about the play. About what happened to the Indians. Um, sorry, I mean, to the Native Americans," she says quietly, looking downwards.

Carrie Kelley has posed:
Carrie Kelley was glad to see James in attendance as she knew he would be. It was a successful run, and all the more so due to the connection her cast had with everyone involved. Yet now she was facing this younger woman fixing her attention on her with a patient smile. "Yeah... A lot of really shitty things have been done to natives over the course of our country's history. It's not just here, either. Natives of every nation face issues with colonists. When someone new comes in that might be more advanced in some way they tend to look down on others." A soft sigh comes, and her head shakes.

"That's not to say that's always the case. I think people as a whole are genuinely good, but sometimes in groups... we can be real dicks. That's why it's important for us to not only remember, but remember accurately, what's happened in the past and continue to improve. Hopefully we can learn and avoid repeating past mistakes."

Blink has posed:
Blink walks slowly down the aisle towards the stage as she listens to Carrie. The closer she gets, the better that Carrie gets a look at the purple-haired twenty-year-old. Her eyes are a vivid green color. Not at all like other green eyes. The irises are a nearly solid shade of green that people just don't have. With the hair, it would be easy for one to jump to the conclusion she's a mutant. Or else wearing makeup to look like one.

"And, what has happened to them now?" Blink asks quietly. "The things in the play, this was from some time ago here, yes?" she asks, as if she's not familiar with this part of American history. "I've seen westerns and things, but I don't really think I've seen too many Native Americans here. There were some in the crowd, I noticed. Are there many left now?" she asks.

Carrie Kelley has posed:
Carrie Kelley doesn't seem to mind the differences. So far the girl wasn't much older than her, and she seemed genuinely interested in what had gone on. Though to be fair she couldn't be sure of anyone's intentions these days. She just tips her head meeting Blink's gaze with her own green eyes hidden slightly behind her glasses. "Yes. We set up a memorial for the author of the play for them to attend so they've likely gone there. Those were members of the tribe that he's from, that this play was about. I consulted with them to make sure we portrayed them as accurately and authentically as possible." Lightly her throat clears, and she glances away considering how to answer it.

"There are areas in various states set aside as Native reservations. Land that is allotted to them by the government as being rightful owners. It's not much, it's usually poorly regulated, and there's a lot of issues. That's what they were doing though: Shipping the natives off out of sight so that they could take the best land for themselves. But they're still here, still alive. Still facing discrimination quite often."

Blink has posed:
Blink arrives over where Carrie is. Her earlier appraisal of the state of the young woman's eyes is spot on. The irises are a solid green color, not at all looking like most people's. "That's just... so disappointing. I don't know why people have to single out others like they do. Just for being different," she says, shaking her head.

The young woman looks back at the now-empty seats. "It's really good of you, to have taken the time to tell this story. I'm glad I heard about it and was able to come and see it," she says. She hesitates and then offers her hand. "My name's Clarice," she offers. "I'm a little different than most people here. A... a mutant. And... I know what it's like. What they went through," she says.

Carrie Kelley has posed:
Carrie Kelley extends her hand to take hold of Clarice's with a firm but not tight grip. She wasn't afraid to hold her hand. Nor was she trying to prove a point. Just... accepted it, and welcomed the greeting with a sad smile of her own. "I'm Carrie. Thank you for coming out. If it helps any, though?" A small wink is given to the woman as she adds, "I know for a fact there were a few other mutants in the audience, too. You're welcome here. If anyone says otherwise I'll smack them myself. Again she nods apparently understanding all the more why this play was troubling for Clarice.

Blink has posed:
Blink glances back at the empty seats, and hearing that she hadn't been alone in the audience makes Clarice smile. She shake's Carrie's hand and gives her a soft smile. "It's nice to meet you Carrie," she tells the redhead. "I'm from Genosha. But I'm here in the US escorting Princess Lorna. She isn't here right now, but she didn't need me, so I blinked over here when I read about the play on the internet," Clarice says. "There's a mutant forum where someone was comparing our situation to the Native Americans. And someone mentioned the play here."

Clarice smiles to Carrie and says, "Are you all done here then? I mean, do you need to close up? I can go if you need to get out of here," she offers. "I was thinking I might pop over to the West Coast where it isn't so late. Maybe grab some seafood in California somewhere." Clarice gets a thought. "Hey, if you haven't eaten yet, you're welcome to come with me?" she offers.

Carrie Kelley has posed:
"Really? I didn't realize it was getting that much attention. That's kind of good to know though. Maybe we can run a few more productions later, or help it move on past just the college setting." The thought has Carrie trailing off a moment before her attention turns back to the present moment with a chuckle. "Just locking up. We'll do the major clean up over the weekend after a few more rounds of the show."

Ah, but then food is mentioned, and there's an almost audible gurgle from Carrie's stomach that leaves her blushing faintly in embarassment. "Yeeeah I could go for something small maybe," she offers jokingly with a broadening grin. "West Coast though? I'll have to lean on you for ideas of where to eat since I've only been out that way once before. I'd love to chat more though."

Blink has posed:
Blink tells Carrie, "I don't know it the best myself, but I've popped around the Hollywood area a few times. We can just walk down the street and pick somewhere that looks good, if that works for you?"

Clarice smiles over to her newfound friend and says, "Do you need to lock anything up, or get anything? If not we can go right now," she offers, motioning towards the stage. Though why she's motioning toward the stage might not be obvious.

Carrie Kelley has posed:
Carrie Kelley grins broadly and tips her head back toward the stage area. "Let me just grab my bag. The campus security usually locks things up after I do a run so... I'd be good to go after." She'll also text a few people where she's going, just in case. Sudden disappearances were a bit iffy these days after all.
