Stop behaving yourself!
Date of Scene: 01 April 2019
Location: Wellness Center - Xavier's Mansion
Synopsis: Jubilee challenges Mason on his unusual behavior, trying to get him to allow others to help him.
Cast of Characters: Jubilee, Mason Steele

Jubilee has posed:
Settled at her desk and lobbing a plastic ball against the wall is Jubilee. She catches it upon each rebound easily with a slap to her palm, then lobs it out once more. She glances down at her list of students she is waiting on, letting out a low groan under her breath. Booger Boy is right there at the end, with Mason Steele smack dab in the middle. The first couple of students was real easy, as they were top of the class students whom she had the pleasure of going over scholarship programs with them. These last two? Sigh.

Mason Steele has posed:
Mason hasn't been waking anyone up with his musical creations lately. He hasn't caused trouble. He has even gotten some of his homework done on time. Some of it. He's flirted less with the girls, and spent a lot more time alone than has been his habit. There hasn't even been a complaint of him hitting on a teacher in over a month.
While all of these are unusual, it is likely his more recluse work on music that is the most strange. His natural talent, and knowledge of that talent, has led to his largest levels of showing off through his musical prowess. Since his recent discovery of his power side effect, he's been less active, spends far more time showering than most students, and is not eager to do anything that might cause him to sweat.

He has his appointment with the counselor, and one thing that is usual is his tardiness. He's ten minutes late for the appointment, walking in with long jeans, a button down yellow shirt that is untucked, and...no shoes or socks.

Jubilee has posed:
By the time he arrives, Jubilee has her head down across her arms, staring at a paper ball that was once a straw wrapper. "... come on .. move... /moooooooove/... crud, still not telekinetic." She pushes herself upwards at the sound of bare feet, then squints an eye at him. She motions to the seat in front of her.

"Okay, Steele. You're starting to freak us out around here. You're not getting in trouble and there hasn't been a sexual harassment claim in two weeks. No one's been woken up by loud music as well. So, we got a classic behavior shift which means something has gone wrong. Look, we know about the power situation thing, and we're really concerned about you. You blew Kitty off when she reached out to you. What's going on, Mason? What's it gonna take for you to let us help you?" She folds her arms over her chest, giving him a seriously concerned look. "What else is going on besides the sweating and the weight and the rock eating?"

Mason Steele has posed:
Mason gives a blank look at Jubilee. "Did you..." he asks, knitting his brow. "Did you just complain that I'm not getting in trouble enough?" he asks. "Most of the time, counselors are supposed to be happy when their students behave better," he points out. He doesn't sit down, he just stands behind the chair.

Jubilee has posed:
"Yeah, well, usually there is a slight decrease in bad behavior which then becomes good behavior. You have /no/ behavior out of the blue. Sit. We're gonna be here for a bit." Jubilee says as she takes out a file and flips it open. It's a thick one. Filled with all the juicy details that is Mason Steele involved with the school. Grades. Complaints. Kudos. "Look, I know it can be scary when your powers start doing weird stuff out of the blue and you feel like you got no control, or you feel like you got no one to go to for help, but you're /here/ at Xavier's for a reason. To get help. Mason, the moment you started eating rocks, you shoulda came to us. You definitely shoulda came to us when you started sweating mud. This is a big deal and you can't let it go unchecked. You need to let Doctor McCoy take a look at you to make sure that you will be okay. Secondary mutations are normal, but if something is going to happen and become dramatic, you'd want to know, right? You have an amazing career, you're in the public eye, this isn't like.. Booger Boy you know?"

Flipping through the files, Jubilee presses her lips together in thought. "You have a lot of people here that care about you and I'm sure I can drop a few names that won't surprise you. Everyone just wants to make sure that you're okay, mentally and emotionally as well. So, let's start with an easy one and please, don't lie. How are you feeling? Are you okay?"

Mason Steele has posed:
"Yeah, you have no idea," Mason says. "The rest of the school, they don't have a nation of people waiting to find the next juicy bit of gossip. Andrea does, but let's face it, Andrea has made a public show about being a mutant. I've denied it on multiple occasions. I lied to everyone. And now we got robot things they are talking about putting out there that will be able to spot mutants? I feel like shit, okay? I feel like no matter what I do, things are gonna go bad. I can't even play guitar anymore, when I do, it sounds different. I have to use a pick. I can't finger pick anymore because it sounds weird. I can't be on a stage because I'm afraid I'll sweat. I'm about to lose everything, and I been thinkin', maybe it's somethin' I deserve. Maybe because I screwed around, God, or karma, or the universe or something is pissed at me, and so now I gotta suffer. There, you happy?" he asks, still not sitting. He doesn't seem to be in a sitting mood. He bounces nervously on his heels, not out of a happy energy as most people might, but out of nervousness.

Jubilee has posed:
"Those are valid reasons to be afraid, Mason." Jubilee says softly to him as she listens carefully. "And those are valid reasons why you should be reaching out to us as experts and doctors to help you, instead of hoping that it will go away if you just wish or pray hard enough. This isn't karma, Mason, it's science." Rising upwards, she makes her way around the table to stand next to him. "If you work with Doctor McCoy, he can probably find a way to help you. Maybe reverse some of these changes, or dial them back a bit, or help you learn a new way of control. So, I think you need to ask yourself a question: Is your career and your life worth saving, or is your pride more important?" She pats him on the shoulder a few times. "You're a good kid, Mason. You've had a rough, complicated life, even compared to most of the students here. Being famous doesn't mean you get a free pass from having bad days. Will you please work with Jean and Hank? Do it for yourself, Mason. Career and music aside, will you please let us help out?"

Mason Steele has posed:
Mason shrugs. "I don't like thinkin' people might be in my head. Jean and her powers," he winces. "I know it sounds bad, we're supposed to be accepting. My mom is a telepath. She means well, but she'll try to..." he makes a motion with his finger at his head. "You know, get in there and make things the way she thinks is best. I can keep that out, but...I think Ms. Grey is better at it than my mom."

He puts his hands on the back of the chair. "There's stuff in my head, like, I don't WANT people to know things I'm thinking, you know? Private stuff, you know, the stuff you never share with anybody."

Jubilee has posed:
"And Jean is probably a top three telepath currently walking the earth, Mason. She makes your mom look like a scrub. Jean is also a woman of morals and values. She wouldn't poke about your private stuff unless it would help you and even if she did, she would never share it, because that is who she is." Jubilee gives his shoulder another patting. "We all have stuff inside our head we don't want people to see but I can guarantee that if I was in your shoes, I would take the help. Trust your friends also. You can lean on them for help."

Mason Steele has posed:
"Yeah, just...don't like it," Mason admits. "I mean, I might not even know if she did it, which makes me more nervous." He shakes his head, and looks out the window. "I don't know how anyone can help my situation. It's just screwed up, I feel like I'm on a runway, running out of track, but don't got enough speed to take off. That make sense?"

Jubilee has posed:
"Yeah, it makes sense, because you haven't /asked for help/ to calm yourself down and at least see what options you got. You're scaring yourself because you're too afraid to talk to us." Jubilee slips up on the edge of the desk, letting her legs dangle. "Have you talked to your mom about this at least? Do you want Jean to talk to her? Or the Professor? I want to help you, Mason, but we won't without your permission. Trust me, if anyone was messing with your head without you knowing, do you think we'd let you walk around upset and depressed? We'd probably turn you into a nerd or something. You don't know how we /can/ help with the situation. Doctor McCoy is one of the world's smarest and leading scientics in genetics. Professor Charles is /the man/. Jean is incredible. You are surrounded by people who care about you, Mason, those who /can/ help you." She picks her phone up and pulls up Hank's schedule on the calendar. "This Friday at two, he has a spot open. I'm going to sign you up for it. It's up to you though to go see him."

Mason Steele has posed:
"The Professor is really cool," Mason admits. "I might talk to Doc McCoy," he says. "I mean, he's..." he tries to avoid saying the obvious. "Y'know, he knows what it's like to look different, and that's kinda what I'm worried about. And he's a science guy, so maybe he can help stop it." He nods, "Okay, I'll go see him," he agrees.

Jubilee has posed:
"Good, because if you don't see him, I'm going to zap the heck outta you." Jubilee says, making pew pew motions with her finger guns. "And spend more time wtih your friends. It'll make you feel good to feel normal for a bit." She nudges a bowl of suckers his way. "Also, my door is open if you just need to hang out and talk to someone, Mason. I was a student here a few years ago so I know what it's like to run about these halls. So, if you don't got anything else pressing you need to get off your chest, I'll cut you loose. Gives me enough time to booger proof the desk."
