A Xavier's Meeting On A Fine Spring Day
Date of Scene: 08 April 2019
Location: Back Yard - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Rahne and Blink meet for the first time on the school grounds
Cast of Characters: Wolfsbane, Blink

Wolfsbane has posed:
Often, outside is the best place to be for one who favors nature the way Wolfsbane does. However, there is the potential danger that Sentinels could be somewhere, anywhere really. Even here, maybe especially here, it's cause for caution. All the same, the wolfen mutant from Scotland roams the grounds while occasionally checking the skies. Seems if Sentinels are going to show up, one mutant outside isn't going to make a big difference. Not far from the rear of the main building, she seems to be in a peaceful mood, taking in the scents.

Blink has posed:
A pair of figures come around a corner. One of the younger students who would likely be recognized, along with a purple-haired woman who would not. Wearing black tights and a jacket, and with a small quiver on her hip. She's carrying a kite, the wind perfect for it today. The student holds onto the spool of string, slid over a wooden cylinder to make it easy to unwind. The purple-haired woman carries the kite off a distance, bringing her nearer to Rahne. Asian features. Maybe twenty. Light skin. Little purplish birthmarks near her eyes. Though the hair isn't enough to spell her as a mutant, the completely green irises are, not the eyes that normal humans have.

She holds up the kite and lets the wind catch it, then lets it go as the kid starts running, dragging it with the string. It climbs into the sky as the purple-haired young woman moves away, smiling and watching as it goes ever higher. She glances over towards Rahne. "Hello," she offers, along with a friendly smile.

Wolfsbane has posed:
The addition of a couple others soon draws Wolfsbane's attention. It might be the breeze, carrying their scents her way. It could be a little chatter, or even just their footsteps. The lightly furred, mostly human-looking mutant turns in their direction, watching silently for the time being as the student and the purple-haired one of seemingly Far East descent get the kite aloft.

Once it's done, the kid going on to do the usual with it, this leaves the two more obvious mutants to themselves. A slight nod follows, a curious tilt of the head. "Hullo. I'm Rahne..or, Wolfsbane."

Blink has posed:
Blink moves over, and if there are trees or anything to obscure an overhead view, the young woman moves beneath it as if being conscious of things that might be looking down from above. She smiles over to Rahne and says, "Hello, nice to meet you. I'm Clarice. Though I also go by Blink." The young woman has a very genuine, simple warmth to her.

While people have their own scents, they also pick them up from their surroundings. Clarice's own scent is of course noticeable to Rahne, but other scents from her also stand out. Ocean salt. Plant pollen that Rahne likely hasn't smelled before (unless she has spent time in Genosha). Her clothes smell as if they've recently spent extensive time somewhere other than the school, or New York State, to have picked up the scents so much.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane has moved under a few trees, in fact, but nothing near the woods. Not that close. "Aye, Clarice. I think I've seen ye around a bit, but I've always been busy wi' other things. Ye're pretty new around here, right? Lorna's friend?"

Genosha is not a place she's been to, not yet, but the mixture of things she picks up on in these scents has her looking at least a little more in wonder than before. "Ye have some verra interesting smells about ye, ones tha' are no' from around here. I can tell. Muh nose is verra good." She taps it with a clawtip.

Blink has posed:
The mention of Lorna causes Clarice's expression to brighten up noticeably. "I am. I mean, well yes, she's a friend, though I'm here to help guard her and keep her safe. And aid the Princess in getting around on business," she says. Clarice's tone makes it seem like she's honored to be serving in that role.

As Rahne speaks of how she smells, Clarice gives a soft smile and says, "You must have senses like Laura's. We were talking about what it's like for her." Clarice looks thoughtful and says, "I imagine I probably do smell different. The air in Genosha smells so different, tropical island and all, that I notice it right away." Her vivid green eyes gaze down at her clothing. "Probably my clothes smell of it. I use the laundry at the palace instead of here. Just kind of... my normal routine, you know?" she says with a smile. "Do you have great hearing and eyesight too? Are those all of your mutant powers, or are there other interesting things?" she says, seeming quite at home around another mutant.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Princess. Probably not a title most people are that accustomed to these days, but royalty does still exist in some places, including Genosha. "I only have a basic understanding o' th' country," she admits, a shake of her head following. "Honestly, I've tried no' tae think o' it all tha' much. I know there were some bad things tha' went on there an' some things ha' changed, but.." She makes a helpless sort of gesture with her hands, as if she's not sure how else to put it.

"But, aye. Verra sharp senses, same wi' muh eyes an' ears. I can shift between a normal-looking human, tae this, or tae a full wolf if I want," she explains, adding, "An' various ways in between as well."

Blink has posed:
Blink leans back against one of the tree trunks, pulling her hair over one shoulder, fingers stroking through it idly. Clarice listens with interest to the description of Rahne's power. "That sounds amazing. Being able to run like a wolf must be incredible," Clarice says with a warm laugh as if picturing herself racing across the school grounds like that.

The mention of Genosha gets a small nod from Clarice, her expression growing more sedate. "Yes, it's changed a lot," she confirms. "I spent most of my life as a slave there. They took me from my parents when I was like, three, I guess. I don't remember them," she says, shrugging, her tone a little somber. "But then Magneto and the Brotherhood freed us. And it's a haven now. Walking through the markets openly, people don't stare at you or think you're strange or anything like they do here," she says, tone brightening.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane casts a glance toward the kid at work with the kite, actually keeping it up in the air longer than a few seconds. It must not be the first time doing it. Slightly in distraction, she admits, "Aye, a' first I was afraid o' whit it made me an' much o' tha' had tae do wi' muh upbringing, but over time.." Now she's looking at Blink again, "..I came tae love it, an' whit I could do. Sometimes there are drawbacks, but for th' most part it's..it's great," she finds herself finishing, a brief rub at one of her pointed ears added in.

Now it's her turn to listen some, and a frown sets in at talk of slavery. "Horrible," she murmurs during a brief gap, shaking her head. "I'm glad things are better for ye noo. Magneto's been both friend an' foe, but it sounds like he's taken care o' ye. Remind me whit ye can do?"

Blink has posed:
Clarice's face shines with a brilliant warmth for the talk of Magneto. "He... I know he's made some mistakes with the world before. But he's really been a savior of our people," Clarice says of the man who freed her from literal shackles. "Thank you. If you ever would like to visit Genosha, I'd be happy to show you around too," Clarice says warmly.

She glances over, watching as the kid is doing well with the kite as long as he doesn't try to make it do too much. Easy to send it on down in a spiral towards the ground. Clarice looks back to Rahne at the question about her own powers. "I can open portals to other places," she says. "I don't do it outside because of the chance of it being spotted. But I could open one to my room in Genosha right now and we could just step through it like it to there as easily as if it was just a doorway," she says. "It's really handy for when the Princess needs to get around to meetings on the West Coast, in New York, Washington, back in Genosha. Wherever," she says. "While I'm here at the school with her, I've offered to use them if they want to take the kids on a trip or something, or just help people get around easily. Though I need some familiarity with the destination. Maps and pictures can be enough."

Wolfsbane has posed:
"I'm..no' sure," Wolfsbane admits as far as visiting Genosha is concerned. "It's probably too hot an' humid for me there. Th' summers here are bad enough for me." There, see? She's got a great, built-in excuse.

After a moment to think about it, then another, she says, "I know a few teleporters, but it's still hard tae understand how it all works, how ye can just be one place one minute, an' in th' next a completely different place on th' other side o' th' world. I guess ye never need tae fly, do ye?" The mention of the bedroom has her tilting her head, and she says in more of a murmur, "Och, tha's more yuir private place. It'd be rude o' me tae just go there."

Blink has posed:
Clarice leans back against the tree trunk, one foot lifting to rest against it behind her, knee bent. "I've met Kurt here at the school. Nightcrawler? He's so sweet! And, he teleports too, but really different than I do. He said he goes through another dimension. I just... well... I just make the world on the other side of the portal and the world here be alike. If that makes sense," Clarice tells Rahne.

"Oh, I didn't mean, not that you'd want to see my room. Just that... well, like if I'm thirsty, I can open a portal, grab a glass of water, or some tea from the fridge, just like I was there instead of in New York," she says. "Or, well, I took a few people to the beach in Genosha to. Just took them directly there, not to my room. It was a lot of fun," she says, smiling. "I've not flown much, no. Going to a new area used to be more difficult. If I open a portal where someone is at it could hurt them. Took me awhile to figure out a safer way to do it," she says.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane's head shakes. "Och, Kurt's verra nice, but his teleports..smell. An' they can leave ye feeling a little unwell. I'm no' gaunae pretend tae understand th' differences, as long as it all works." She leans against the trunk of another tree, picking under a few of her claws. "Is there something about th' water there tha' ye like more than whit we have here?" she wonders, as if that could be the only reason to make a portal just for something as simple as that. There's a brief smile that comes and goes at the talk of seeing the room, a quick nod, then shake of the head, which may send a conflicting message. Awkward! "We have a small beach back home, but it's no' really like th' ones ye're used tae except for there being a wee bit o' sand, I'd think."

Blink has posed:
Blink gives a soft grin at the mention of the smell. "It does a bit, because of that other dimension he goes through, he said. I guess it's a lot worse for you, with your sensitive nose and all?" Clarice says sympathetically. "But we're different in that he just disappears and reappears there. With me.. I open a glowing circle that you can see the destination and you just step through. Or, you know if it was a fight? Like if someone shot at you, I could open a portal between you and them so their bullet flies into the portal off to wherever the other end is. That's something I don't think Kurt's kind of teleporting would do. He'd have to grab you and physically move you," she says.

Clarice doesn't mention the Danger Room scenario she did with some of the others, never quite clear who is allowed to know about it or not, so kept her description general rather than give Sentinel attacks as an example as she almost did.

"Actually, the water here is amazing!" Clarice says of the New York water which is indeed highly touted. "But, mostly it's just I know my room really well, plus I can grab things from the fridge and not be stealing. And I have up warning signs so no one will be in there, so I don't risk hurting someone. It's just, well think of how many times you might like something from your room? It's a little cool, you want a jacket? I can open one and just reach through and grab what I want. Or if I need some paper and a pen or... whatever," she says, grinning and shrugging. "But, the beach there -is- amazing. IT's a tropical island and all."

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane can certainly tell how much Clarice seems to love what she's capable of doing, and the way she's nodding to various parts of those explanations indicates her understanding of why. "Aye, ye're right about th' differences wi' Nightcrawler, an' everything's more o' an impact when ye have th' senses I do. But, I can see how yuir portals would be a big help wi' things like tha'."

Shifting her modest weight from one bare foot to the other, she adjusts a part of her leggings after noticing them needing it. While she could just thicken her coat of fur if it was cooler and she needed extra warmth, she does allow, "It'd be conveninent, aye. For me, I guess I like just..ye know, going through th' woods by muhself, nature all around me."

Blink has posed:
"I imagine getting away from the smells of the cities and people would be a good thing with your senses," Clarice says. "When I was demonstrating for Kurt... we went to Yellowstone. It was gorgeous. Saw a moose while we were there!" she says, Clarice giving a warm laugh, the young woman friendly and amiable seeming.

"And then we went to the top of the Great Pyramid and saw the sun rise over the desert. And then back home for some coffee. And blueberry pancakes. I admit, he kind of inspired the blueberries," she says, giving a soft warm laugh as they'd already shared that joke. "I really do like the people here. I wish I'd had a school like this to grow up in," Clarice says, gazing fondly over at the structure.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane's eyes also slide over to the main building, but before she goes into any sort of response to the places mentioned, she says, "Th' school's been good tae me, but I graduated, went back home for a while, an' noo tha' I'm back here I'm realizing I'm no' sure whit I really want tae do next. I need tae figure tha' oot."

with that said, after another one of those brief smiles at the mention of blueberries and Kurt, she allows, "There are a lot o' national parks around th' country. I've never had th' chance tae visit any o' them."

Blink has posed:
Clarice peeks up at the sky. "Well, Scott was there and said it was ok to open the one to Yellowstone, and that was right out front under the trees. So... just a quick one for a peel," Clarice says, glancing up and making sure the trees are thick enough to hide the view. She gestures with her hand, there's a brief flash of magenta out of her hand and where it stops, a purple glowing aura spreads to create a large circular opening in the air, large enough to step through easily. On the other side can be seen a lake, and geysers off in the distance. "The moose was over there, on the shore," she says, pointing.

The scents of the other place come through the portal as well. The freshwater lake, a bit of smell from the hot water of the geysers as it drifts on the wind to the portal, and threw. Different plants than grow in New York.

Wolfsbane has posed:
"I'm sure I could get a list an'..well," Wolfsbane cuts herself off as the portal takes shape, leading to her pushing away from the tree trunk for a peek that leaves her a foot or two away from it once it's opened up. She can feel the difference in air temperature from here to there, and certainly the distinct scents from what makes the geysers and other things in the place what they are. Just seeing this for the first time, she mumbles, "Tha's amazing, like magic." But, many mutant powers operate that way to her. At one time, she even thought hers were magical. Dark magic, but magical.

Blink has posed:
Blink smiles as she looks back over to Rahne. The young woman's expression lacks any kind of smugness about her power. The opposite. Hearing Rahne's reaction seems to truly please Clarice a lot, as if she's proud of it but puts a lot of stock in the opinions of others rather than being confident of it on her own. "Thank you. It's... really a lot of fun. I do a lot of exploring in my free time. If you ever would like to go somewhere, just let me know? If I'm not familiar with it, like I said, I'd need to study some maps, or if there are pictures too even better."

She smiles and then lets the portal close. "I'd offer to let you go take a look at the park if you liked, but I need to get back inside and help some Genoshan officials move about," she says. Clarice shines a soft smile at Rahne. "I really enjoyed meeting you. I hope to see you again." She waves then and heads back inside.
