Date of Scene: 23 April 2019

Synopsis: J'onn visits Julliard during one of Mason's recitals.
Cast of Characters: Mason Steele, Martian Manhunter

Mason Steele has posed:
Julliard. The place where some of the most talented musicians in the world have been educated. The prestige of the school is seen in it's decoration and artwork. Another day of classes for several students, but as per usual, there are musical performances of various sorts. Today was a recital for Mason Steele, focused not on his musical writing talents, but on his ability to play a more established piece of music. Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Some people are aware of Mason's more refined tastes, but by and large, the teenager is much better known for his rock hits and his ability to draw masses of teenage girls. Most of them, though, are less interested in a recital of this nature, and so the crowd is a bit smaller than one of those concerts. It's also not been as well advertised.
He earned his place in Julliard for true talent, not for popularity. He sits behind the glossy black 88, accompanied by the orchestra as his fingers dance eloquently across the notes.

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn developed, lately, an intrest in a lot of human things, including but not limited to music. What a better way to learn more about such a subject that at the most prestigious musical school? Shapeshifted like an ebony skinned human, with an athletic build and wearing a finely tailored grey suit, it wasn't difficult for J'onn to gain access to the school, under the identity of a certain Malik Nelson, and he is currently sitting in one of the backseats of the same room where Mason is playing, today. He has no clue about the people playing, or at least he didn't have a clue until a quick mindread of a few people in the room, as subtle as it can be, revealed at least names and general informations about them.

Mason Steele has posed:
There's something interesting about the young man on the stage. Mason, while a probe would indicate that he is clearly no telepath, seemed to have a certain level of telepathic defense. Not significant, but enough that a low level scan seems to be rather inhibited. The kind that someone who has had to deal with telepaths might be able to develop on their own without substantial training. His focus, if further prodded, is entirely wrapped in the music before him, though. His thoughts aren't words, they actually are music, and not only the music that is heard, but the music that is past the notes, complex equations of rhythmic properties, the impact of each note, of each first beat. He continues through the 18 minute piece of music, and finally comes to it's completion, a blazing dancing of his fingers across the stretch of the black and whites as the conductor furiously directs the orchestra. By the time he hits the final key, he's a bit sweaty, but his stern expression becomes a youthful, beaming smile. There is applause, he stands and bows.

And he is afraid. The moment he bows, the confident, focused young man becomes a subject of terror. Those watching him without keener insights to the mind wouldn't notice it. He looks fine. His mask is flawless. But he is absolutely terrified. The smile continues, but the joy is lost. Another bow, and he exits down the steps at the side of the stage, and sits on the front row as the closing remarks are given, and the audience is thanked for enjoying the performance with the professors who would grade him, and all are dismissed.

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn studies the room, the people, and especially the music, listening to it and letting himself sink into a state of relaxation by the 18 minute piece. At the end, he sets his eyes on the stage again, focusing on the various people bowing and, almost impossible would it be to not notice a person whose expression doesn't agree at all with his state of mind, and so it is towards Mason that J'onn now focus his eyes, and his mind.

Mason Steele has posed:
Thoughts of sentinels fill the young man's mind, imaginations that they break into the building, that someone comes to detain him. He pulls a tissue from his pocket, and wipes his face, then glances down at it briefly before putting it in his pocket. As people greet him after the performance, he shakes hands, seemingly happily, and not a few stray carnal thoughts creep through as he sees a few attractive women, such perhaps is expected of a teenage boy. Still, the fear remains through all of his hand shaking and friendly smiles as the visitors thin.

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn slowly stands up too, making sure through a careful application of social skills to be one of the last ones to greet and then handshake Mason. Approaching the young man, with his mind tuned on the teenager's thoughts in a way as subtle as possible, he extends his right hand to shake the young man's one. "very well done on your performance" he comments

Mason Steele has posed:
"Thank you," Mason says, shaking the hand in return of the stranger. "It was a lot of hard work." Only half true. Mason's savaant, and so while he honestly did work on the music, it was not as laborious as he might claim. Still, social etiquette would say you don't claim such things out loud.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it." Of course, currently for Mason, J'onn is just another average concert goer, having no knowledge of the significance of the man who stands before him.

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn releases Mason's hand after a brief handshake, and even offers a small smile at him, while his senses pick up the gradually diminishing number of people in the room. "very well done indeed. I don't know if I would even be able to play constantly for 5 minutes, not to mention 18..." he could probably play for days, if he studied enough about music but, well, social skills? "and the performance has been appreciated by all of the spectators, as far as I could gather..." he adds, while he tries to add a very subtle suggestion to his words, not affecting directly a mind but making they seem a bit more important than they are, maybe that would reduce a bit Mason's terror, if he's focused on something else?

Mason Steele has posed:
It minorly works, and Mason's smile remains. A performer he is. "I am glad. It's what music should be for, is for people to be able to appreciate it. Is this your first time to Julliard?" he asks. The fear is affected somewhat, though it has hardly disappeared. His blue eyes shift momentarily to survey the room at large before returning to 'Malik'.

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn nods at the man's question, glancing around for a moment, to give more the impression of not being aware of his surroundings more than anything else "first time here, yes." he admits "though I must say, the place looks extremely nice and the music is wonderful. Not that I would expect anything else from such a prestigious establishment..." he smiles slightly. "I can see how people enjoy music so much, considering its quality"

Mason Steele has posed:
Mason nods, but as most teenagers, there is a sense that the white-washed conversation isn't really his cup of tea. He loves music, but the suits, gowns, and tuxedos are just part of the show, and while he can hold up his pinky without batting an eye, internally, it isn't his first choice. "I'm really lucky to have the opportunity to study here. I hope you'll have the chance to listen to many more performances, there are many excellent performers that play here."

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn nods slightly "of course... Well I am sure of that too, yes. So far I think I'll definitely spend a bit more time around here in the future." he seems to consider for a moment, his mind scanning his surroundings "would you mind giving me a quick tour of the nearby structure, though? I think my sense of orientation is a bit, scrambled, as of late..."

Mason Steele has posed:
Mason misses a step at the question. It was quite unexpected. "A tour?" he echoes, glancing around as if there is some trap. "I..." He isn't accustomed to being asked such a question, and it clearly caught him off guard, not to mention makes him a little more wary. "I don't know. I've never had anyone ask me that before."

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn nods slightly again "well not a tour, more like, mind telling me where the exit is? Because I'd get lost, and then I'd have lots of people laughing at a man wandering around like he was a stranger on Earth." he explains with a small smile, at least distracting the young student seemed like a good way to set his fears aside but, well, maybe this was not the best plan after all? He however waits for an answer and, in case the man decides to lead him to the exit it will be a lot more smalltalk, otherwise he would say his farewells and walk out, even pretending to get lost at least once before just vanishing.
