Motorcycles Galore
Date of Scene: 29 April 2019
Location: Garage - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Scott, Rahne, Brian, Lorna, Kitty, and X-23 gather in the garage while project motorcycles are worked on
Cast of Characters: Shadowcat, Cannonball, Isotope, Polaris, X-23, Wolfsbane, Cyclops

Shadowcat has posed:
The load of motorcycles that Kitty bought from a nearby farm are gradually getting claimed by interested students and faculty, and a start made on restoring them. A half-century of collecting and storing them in a barn by the family of Ben and Marjorie Carstead, who finally just wanted the space free. There are all sorts of bikes, some mostly whole, others only parts that need pieces bought or fabricated. Some of the staff including Peter Parker had made themselves available to help with fabrication.

This afternoon finds Kitty out in the garage. She's enlisted the aid of one of the students, Julian Pappa who everyone refers to as Moochie for how he's always bumming food of others despite being rail thin. He also is learning Italian, which makes him perfect to help Kitty translate the maintenance manual for the 1965 Vespa scooter she's working on.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie is in here as well. He has an old motor on a work bench and is taking it apart. He has a tablet beside him, and occasionally he will grab a wrag wipe greese from one finger and swipe to something different on the tablet.

Isotope has posed:
Brian had been trying to make a decision between bikes. His containment suit ever-so-hidden by a holographic emitter. Since he was outside, not knowing who could see him as he contemplated.

"I like the old Yamaha, but... a dirt bike...now that's just tons of fun on a bun." He was, however, very interested in the projects, mechanics was a very intriguing subject, and one of his electives was auto shop.

Polaris has posed:
It was another last blast of cold from the Northern winds as Spring gave way to the first steps of Summer. It had been stormy the night before, and as a result at least the pollen was down. The crisp scents of damp pavement and cement wafted up through the open garage bay doors and in stepped in Lorna. The green haired mutant waved her hands, a load of scrap metal float out before her as she stepped inside wearing a pair of boots, beat up jeans and matching jacket. Her hair swept back into a messy bun of green curls from her face.

"Alrighty kids, who needs what made? There should be more than enough scrap metal here for me to make most of the big metal parts.. If you want 'em at least." She shrugged, and the scrap of metal floated into the center, warping and liquifying down into a metallic, reflective ball that was raw and easier to shape.

X-23 has posed:
X-23 comes out into the garage. She has a vaguely displeased expression on her face, and when she sees the crowd there, and all the old bikes, she frowns. "What is all of this?" she asks, approaching the...collections of junk.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty looks at the manual while Moochie struggles to translate. "The... clock should... no, 'the clock must'... um... fasten... must be fastened? To the... not sure what that word is but it's saying figure (C) so it's this clamp thing," he says, pointing at the diagram.

Kitty gets a perplexed look. "The clock? Maybe the timer?" she asks Moochie. Moochie looks at the engine diagram and back at the text. "Oh yeah!" he agrees with a smile.

Kitty could just use google translate. But then it wouldn't be helping Moochie to learn Italian. She grins and pats his shoulder as he keeps translating. Kitty moves over to greet others as they emerge.

"Afternoon Lorna. Great of you to help out. I think we need a piston made for my Vespa, but it can wait until the students are helped," she says. "We've got a lot of work to do before we are ready for it anyway."

Kitty grins over to Brian. "Whichever you choose, you will have to wear a helmet," she tells him. "Or... well, unless your suit's is good enough," She considers. "We have a shipment of helmets arriving tomorrow. A bunch of different styles too, not just all solid colors," she says.

Kitty greets X-23 then. "Hello Laura. Summer projects for the students. Neighboring farm had a barn full of old motorcycles they were just going to haul away, so I bought them. If you'd like to pick one out to work on, we have plenty to spare. There's also a 1950s Buick Roadmaster wagon that Scott is looking at restoring for the school that was in there too."

X-23 has posed:
Laura looks back. "They smell of old chemicals. And rust." Nonetheless, the concept of a motorcycle is interesting. "I do not know how to repair a vehicle like this." She moves over to one of them. "Taking off the rust will be easy. But the engine is harder."

Isotope has posed:
"Oh of course, this brain is too precious to me." Brian offers with a wink to Kitty. "As they say in the south: my momma didn't raise no dummy." Brian sees the faded green fairings on the Yamaha, and gives a smirk. "Okay, this is the one." He claims, starting to look it over. It needed some work, that's for sure. Where to start? It would definitely be the engine, and he's already working on gaining access to it. "I think I lucked out..." He says as he looks over the frame. "The frame seems to be great, which probably means the engine's a mess." He does give Laura a wave as she enters. "Nothing like internal combustion, harnessing the power of an explosion to propel yourself. It's fun in an archaic kind of way."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over, and says "Well, we have some who can teach or you can work from videos and such." HE will tell Laura "AH know a bit about car engines and such but motorcycles are a bit new to me, simmilar to some of the two stroke engines on the farm." He admits

Polaris has posed:
Lorna shrugged easily, walking over to a hand written list of notes that was on one of the work desks nearby. All the while her fingers twitched this way and that, a bit of metal floated away from the shiny metal ball to shape itself into a piston. It was easy to remember what such things looked like, what they needed to be to fit into the necessary slots and the alike when one had an intricate knowledge of metal objects from the inside out. A perfectly shaped copy floated to Kitty and solidified neatly.

"There ya go." Lorna offered, muttering to herself as she glanced over the list of necessary metal objects. She glanced up from what she was working on to catch mutterings about the engine.

"Want a hand with it?" If all else failed in being Genosha's Princess, she'd make a wildly good mechanic.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Passing by outside, the sound of voices and the scents of people along with various vehicles both recent and older draws someone's head poking into the doorway from the path coming from the stables. Wolfsbane, to those capable of telling, smells of the woods and, of course, leather based on her attire. "Oh, hullo," she offers, a simple greeting. "Is it a party in here?"

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty glances at the bikes as X-23 shares what she is noticing about them must. "Yes. A fair amount of rust. The barn had a leak or two. And a lot of these are a couple of decades old. That frame there," Kitty says, pointing out a really rusty frame without anything else, "Is from a 1920 motorcycle. I think we might sell that one. We don't have enough to make a bike, and they are rare enough someone would appreciate getting it."

Kitty snags the piston out of the air with a grateful look to Lorna. "Thank you!" she says warmly. Kitty passes the piston to Moochie, who holds it the wrong way as he looks at the engine. Kitty flips it around for him. "Oh yeah!" he says after the help.

Kitty chuckles and smiles as Brian and Sam talk about the engines with Laura. "You might want to try one of the road bikes, Laura. Handy for getting around. Logan favors one a lot of the time. There's kind of a sense of freedom on them I guess," she says.

X-23 has posed:
"Road bike?" Laura asks, looking to Kitty to guide her over in the right direction. Assuming she gets the correct direction from Kitty, she'll head over to them, checking them, and apparently making her choice based on size, as she heads to the smallest of them.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna tsked under her breath, "Oh no, we are not selling it. Are you kidding me? Rust I can deal with //easily//..." She muttered and glanced toward the bike in question. This was a project that the green haired magnokinetic was quickly becoming more and more interested in. The abundance of steel and iron frames, metal working and old, solid frames made it sing in her mind's eye.

"Or you can wait till I make up what it needs and then it can be sold. I don't care then really.. I'm just saying, I want to do some research on what metal parts it needs to make it go.."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie 's phone rings and he pulls it out to look at it. He sighs a moment and heads headouside to answer it. He will start to ruffle Wolfsbane's hair on the way out an dstop giving her a one arm hugged so not to get her greasy. He can be heard to say on the phone "Ok, if they can't play next weekend, how about October?"

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane ducks her head a little but accepts the gesture from Sam, looking after him without a word since he's in the middle of a call. It leaves her lingering toward one end of the garage, a quiet presence for the moment. There are a few people in here she doesn't know well, or at all.

Isotope has posed:
Brian continues working to tear down his bike, reaching for a drain pan and allowing the old fluids to drain into it, some had been very viscous. "Well, I think I picked a good one." He comments, moving over to Kitty as he waits for fluid to drain. "I think learning fuel injection will help some, I've just been dealing with carbs."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty Pryde flashes a smile over to Lorna. "If you want to make what's needed, that would be amazing. I looked it up and it was one of the earliest of motorcycles for sale. Would be a great antique even if the other parts are newly made," Kitty speculates.

She pauses to look at Brian's work on his bike. "I wish I was better with engines. Once they reach computerized controls I'm much better with them," she says with a laugh. "By the way, how is your suit working out? Have you been doing more work on it?" she says, glancing about to confirm everyone here is aware of the Danger Room's existence before saying even that much.

Wolfsbane is given a warm wave. "Hey Rahne. Are you picking out a bike for yourself? Summer projects for anyone who wants one," Kitty says. There are road bikes, dirt bikes, even old choppers from the 60s and 70s. Plus plenty of extra parts that could go into a concept bike if someone felt creative.

Polaris has posed:
A shrug and with a heft of her figure, Lorna settled a top of the work bench with some notes on it that listed metal parts that needed to be worked. For the ones she knew, she silently formed each one and set it aside, the metal globe of liquid metal shrinking down in size as she worked. "Yeah? It's old enough to be my father's age then. Maybe I'll make it for his Father's Day gift." She paused considering.

"Not that Genosha has formally recognized that as a holiday yet? Man, I'm gonna have to check the back log on holidays people submitted and see where that is on approval.." She muttered to herself, and considered before her green eyes shifted back toward Rhane and she offered the woman a wiggle of her fingers briefly in greeting, as much as a farewell to Sam in his departure.

Wolfsbane has posed:
"Hullo Kitty," the wolfen woman answers, hands settling behind her as she keeps to the periphery. Smells of oil, grease, metal, and all that are stronger in here, no question about it.

"Ahh, nae, sorry. I can drive a bit, but I dinna think ye'll ever find me on one o' those. I'd be more comfortable going somewhere on all fours. I can ride a bicycle, though." That's more her speed. "Lorna," Wolfsbane adds with a nod after the wave, peering over toward the frame and other things people are working on.

X-23 has posed:
Laura finds her choice. She considers the frame, looking at it, and then looks back to Lorna. "You said you can deal with the rust?" she asks, before trying her own mode of dealing with it. Given her powers, she as no problem calling on the greenette for assistance. Rahne gets a moment of curious look, as someone she hasn't seen much of.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty Pryde gives an understanding nod towards Rahne at her lack of interest in them. "Figured it will be good for the students to get their hands dirty with them. Also if it owning an older bike brings with it some additional appreciation of the past, all the better," Kitty says with a soft smile.

Kitty walks over to see the bikes that Laura is considering. "That looks like it's probably a good size for you," Kitty agrees. "I think you want to be able to sit on and it have your feet touch the ground on both sides, at least just barely if not a little more than that? Though I'm not the best at bikes either. Why I went for the simple scooter. It's going to be cute though when it's done," she says.

Kitty smiles to X-23 and asks, "How has everything been going for you, Laura? Haven't had a chance to catch up in a while. I've been burning the candle at both ends, with the new job and all."

Isotope has posed:
"Oh, it's fine. Tuned perfectly to me and reacts only when I want it to. Everything Mister Forge said it would be." Brian responds.

"Plus, it looks perfect." He adds in, a grin on his face. The emitter he wore right now covered up the suit, showing a button up work shirt and jeans, when truly underneath was metal, unstable molecules, and circuitry. "A 1920's genuine parts? Jeez, that's some Father's Day present." He comments in regards to the rusty frame.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna arched a brow, hopping off the bench and stepping toward Laura as the woman asked if she could deal with rust. The metal spare parts had been made, leaving her hands and powers free to focus upon the rusted item before she. She flashed the other mutant a grin and wiggled her fingers. "Rust is iron oxide, not inherently magnetic, but I can wiggle bits beneath to get the eroded parts clean away and then re-apply the.." She trailed off and offered a sheepish look. "Simply put, yes."

With that Lorna reached out her hand with a flexing of her fingers, the rust suddenly exploded off the entire frame before them and floated about the air in a suspended fashion before it carefully floated down to the ground in a neat ruddy pile of iron shavings. Which left behind a shiny, rust-free frame behind. "All done."

Wolfsbane has posed:
Laura is also someone Rahne is mostly unfamiliar with, though she may have heard a thing or two along the way. It leads to her giving the girl a longer look than the others, revealing some sort of curiosity based on whatever she might be picking up off of her. "Aye, if I'm being honest, I was never much intae vehicles," she explains. Lorna's display of rust removal draws some of her attention next, a sort of impressed look passing. Brian is also given a second glance. Perhaps she's noting his scent for the future.

Cyclops has posed:
Scott steps in as Lorna explodes a rusty bike frame and the dust lingers and Scott, being Scott sees a chance to crack an old ass joke from the internet. "Motorcycle rust. Don't breath this."

He chuckles at himself and expects to find one person laughing or at least grinning.

"Ahem... Seriously though, don't breath that." Scott says before looking down and then moving over towards the Buick with his personal tablet tucked under his arm.

X-23 has posed:
Laura looks over, impressed at Lorna's show. She considers as she looks at the frame, before looking back to the other woman. "That was very impressive." Lorna apparently just went up a couple notches on her threat meter. Whether that's good or bad remains open.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty smiles at Brian's finding his suit to his liking. "Excellent. Keep up the practice with it. If you need any additional training programs, let me know and I'd be happy to pull some together," she tells Brian.

Kitty watches how Lorna handles the little particles of rust with open admiration. "Part of me wonders how you can manage such minute control," Kitty says. "Though, I kind of do the same thing. That level of control. I have to leave just a few molecules unphased so I don't sink into the ground. So I guess I can relate if I think of it like that," Kitty tells Lorna. "It's still amazing to watch though!"

"Hey Scott," Kitty says in greeting, flashing their fearless leader a wave. Well, fearless about everything but asking out red-headed telepaths perhaps. Whoops, did she subtext that outloud?

Polaris has posed:
A grin and Lorna glanced side long at Scott as the Summers entered and saw her display of metal technique and her directing the rust to the ground with care. "Hey Scott, what don't want some more iron in your diet?" She teased as she wiggled her fingers and green bloomed between her manicured fingernails with expert practice. She turned her focus back to Laura and she shrugged once.

"It's just something I can do, you're way better at plenty of things I suck at." She glanced back to Kitty and looked sheepish.

"It's less minute control and more of a general magnetic field generated on the metal that's not actually oxidized. Then it's a question of diamagnetics and pushing what's not magnetic away all over and collecting it all in another field..." She coughed and reached up to push a stray lock of green hair back from her face.

Isotope has posed:
Brian gives a sharp laugh, one single HA! "I guess it will blend." He responds, tipping his head to Scott. "Pink Himalayan salt is pink because of iron oxide. I'll take my steak with a side of rust thanks."

Brian joins Scott for a moment at the Buick, if for nothing but an interest in the plans for the car.

Cyclops has posed:
"See, simple as that." Scott says, teasing Kitty as if everyone would have known that's how Lorna's powers worked. The man then picks up the pace of his walk to avoid any thrown glares or wrenches. The x-leader gives a smile to Kitty and Lorna, "So these are the students who are working on the bikes?" Scott asks with a look towards Lorna and then Kitty, but then Summers gives an order towards Lorna, "Do not de-rust this car, it's off limits to powers. Hands and muscle only." Scott gives an order as he claims a four pronged stool and tucks it under his toosh as he gets to the Buick.

He pulls out his tablet and turns it on and on the screen is a single 'rendering' of the car. "What do you think? I'm thinking African mahogany for the wood and the body should either be cream or victory white, or scuderia red?" Scott says, rolling the R on scuderia as if he was itallian.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty Pryde smiles at the explanation from Lorna, which Kitty actually follows. Astrophysics. Electromagnetic theory plays a role there, so she's well-learned on the subject at least. "It would still be interesting to sense things how you do," Kitty says with a smile to Lorna.

Kitty moves over to Rahne and motions towards Scott as he goes over to the car. "There's something you could help out on if you don't want to do a bike," Kitty suggests. "Old, beautiful car. Scott has some images of what it can look like when done." Kitty looks to Scott to say, "There's been a lot of interest in it from the students and staff both." And Brian going over to take a look seems evidence of that.

X-23 has posed:
"This is a good beginning. I will see what information I can find on the engine." Laura says, as she heads for the interior of the house.

Polaris has posed:
A slow shake of her head and Lorna rolled her eyes in Scott's direction, her hands held up and flat. "I won't make your life easier, sure." She muttered, shaking her head as she made to wipe her hands off on her jeans.

"I'm gonna go do some research on what parts thins thing needs to make it actually a bike and not a frame again." She left off that she was definitely making the motorcycle anew for her father as a gift. That would only likely sour Scott's good mood.

"Holler if anyone needs a spare part."

Wolfsbane has posed:
"Sorry, Kitty. I dinna really think I have much tae offer when it comes tae fixing up a car," Wolfsbane apologizes, shaking her head slowly. Clearly, she's looking and feeling out of place with this sort of topic, no doubt on the helpless side. "I think I'm gaunae leave those things up tae th' people who have a better idea about it." This results in her beginning to slide back toward the way out, amid a brief, "An' hello, Mister Summers."

Isotope has posed:
Brian looks at the image, then imagines the finished product in his mind. "Red." He says with a nod. It may not be the traditional. "Or the cream would accent the mahogany really well."

"Know where we can get some white-walls?" He asks the elder energy projector.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty Pryde gives Rahne a warm smile. "No problem if it's not your thing," Kitty agrees. She wanders over to see the tablet that Brian and Scott are looking at. "I'm curious to see what all it takes. If it is going to be a lot more effort than the bikes. Which, I'm guessing is the case," she says.

Kitty looks at the color combinations that they are trying. "I like the red," she agrees. "If it's going to be the school's car, I think having it stand out would be nice," she shares. Because, you know, Juggernaut can aim at it better that way, or something.

Cyclops has posed:
"Hello Rahne." The teacher says with a kind smile as she saunters off and Scott lifts his voice behind her towards her back. "You like to draw right? Or am I wrong?" Scott asks with a lift of his eyebrow towards the girl.

Scott gives Brian his tablet as he stands to focus on Rahne as it seems she could use some encouragement. "Here, you can start looking for white walls, but we're a ways off from that part of the job to be ready." Scott warns with a chuckle. Scott does motion for Kitty to come closer, get involved in the planning phase with Brian as he talks to Rahne.

Wolfsbane has posed:
Wolfsbane pauses, a claw-tipped hand around the door handle just before she opens it to leave. "Aye, when I'm in th' right mood an' feel some kind o' inspiration. Why?" She's not so naive as to suspect there isn't something Scott is leading into with this. She sends an understanding look over Kitty's way, all the same.

Cyclops has posed:
"We need some extra hands and minds to come up with plans and ideas for these bikes." Scott says with a nod towards Rahne, not that he expects her to do it, but it is something creative that isn't covered in rust and helps gets these bikes back into great shape. "I could use a co-designer." Scott smirks to Rahne.

Wolfsbane has posed:
"I really think ye'd be better off just looking up photos o' things so ye can compare, but if I can help oot sometime later, I'll try," Wolfsbane says, offering the best she can for the time being. No promises. "Good luck on yuir plans, all o' ye." She excuses herself, time for food or perhaps more time around the woods.

Isotope has posed:
The young mutant couldn't be more chuffed to be checking out tires for this here project. A real 50's Buick was a treat, they hadn't made them like this (thankfully) for decades. "White wall tires..." He comments, looking around the web for something that they could use on the Buick.
