Hello to Shuri!
Date of Scene: 29 May 2019
Location: Themysciran Embassy - Manhattan
Synopsis: Shuri comes to the Themysciran Embassy as her first stop in her arrival to New York City.
Cast of Characters: Wonder Woman, Shuri

Wonder Woman has posed:
When Shuri had arranged a visit to the Themysciran Embassy upon her arrival and visit to New York, Diana had made a point to clear her schedule to accomodate the Wakandan Princess' presence.

Such as it is today, Diana is actually within the foyer of her Themysciran Embassy--an old home in the upper east side of Manhattan not far from the Avengers Mansion as it so happens. The home is upkept as well as one would expect, with polished hardwood floors and soft light colored walls. With art and traditional displays of Themysciran culture throughout the home, its a litlte museum here within the city that never sleeps.

Diana herself is standing in a white dress, sleeveless, that covers up to her neck and down to just below her knees, her hair is braided up and around the sides of her head, she looks formal but casually comfortable at the same time.

Two Amazonaian women stand on either sides of the main foyer, they're not in armor but they are in traditional garments to their people, loose flowing dresses that are adorned with hints of battle attire due to the nature of them being fierce warrior women when called upon.

They await Shuri's arrival and whomever she brings with her, if anyone at all.

Shuri has posed:
Shuri has definitely had a little fangirling about Diana and her exploits. But now that she's in America, she's been pleased to see...well, everything. The Big Apple itself has its own charms, and while it's very different from Wakanda, there's still been a lot to see.

Thankfully, the Wakandan Embassy is not far from the Themysciran Embassy. Not uncommon for cities to cluster the "diplomatic district" together. It's made for a short trip. That's all the better, because while she's enjoying being a bit of an unknown in the city so far (at least until the press gets word of her arrival), this trip is anything but incognito. This is emissary-of-country to emissary-of-country, and so that's handled with all the pomp and circumstance it deserves. The vehicles arrive out front of the embassy, and the first people out are four Dora Milaje, securing her exit. Shuri and two assistants come out of the vehicles, entering the building.

For her part, while she's used to ceremony and tradition (Wakanda has no shortage of either), Shuri's face still lights up when she sees Diana there. A meeting over kimoyo bead is one thing, but face to face is another. Two of the Doras remain outside the embassy, securing the front, while two flank Shuri and her entourage as they enter, dressed in traditional Wakandan attire.

Shuri herself has dressed traditionally for this, mostly because she fully expects there to be press out front by the time she leaves, and proprieties must be observed. But she smiles warmly, clearly trying to keep a modicum of dignity and not just fangirl. "Princess Diana. It is a pleasure." Her assistants hand her a basket, full of folded cloth and other small things, with a carved wooden box atop it. "Thank you for having us."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana's definitely gone to lengths to make sure that media isn't there at least at the start of this meeting, having told no one that it was impending and going to happen. She knew all too well what it was like to travel abroad and be inundated with the press wanting to get their 'scoops' on the unfolding news. Which was all fine and dandy with the Princess in some cases and scenarios, but a meeting like this? It was theirs, she and Shuri's, as far as she was concerned.

Once the cars arrive and the entourage makes their way up and into the home, Diana is showcasing a large smile for the Wakandans, specifically for Shuri. "Welcome to our Manhattan home, Your highness." She says with a start, walking to the other to offer her a hand as a simple gesture. "It is an honor to finally get to meet you face to face in-person. King T'Challa has had nothing but fun stories to tell of you in our interactions together." Diana has an air of happiness about her, a genuine emotion that she is very skilled at relaying to those around her when she truly is in a good mood as she is now.

Shuri has posed:
Shuri reaches out with her free hand to shake Diana's, when it's offered to her, and after the shake, her other hand offers the basket out towards Diana. "A few small tokens as a measure of Wakanda's respect." She offers, still in "official" mode. She looks to her retinue. "Is there somewhere my staff can wait while we speak?" Her eyes are bright; it's taking a lot of willpower to keep from just squeeing and acting entirely un-princessly on this whole matter.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana continues to hold that smile upon her lips as she looks down to the offered basket and eyes some of the visible contents. "Oh my." She says upon seeing it and reaching out tentatively accept it. "This is far too nice of you, Shuri." She says to the other, her blue eyes raising up again to look at the Princess before her. She pauses then to look to her companions. "Yes of course." She states, motioning to one of her own people, a woman who stands well over six feet, beautiful but certainly Amazon. "Polemusa. Please, show the Wakandan people to the lounge room." The tall Amazon moves to do as her own Princess asks, then Diana is looking back to Shuri and smiling to her. "Come along, we can take a walk in the courtyard down this hallway." And she moves to lead the way to said central courtyard at the heart of the embassy.

Shuri has posed:
The basket's visible contents are simple enough. The kind of thing that no one would think twice about as being gifts from a "third world" country. Wakandan native fabrics, a dress of the same with matching sandals. Some small wood carved panther figurines. The contents of the smaller, carved box may be the more interesting of the lot. Not that the others aren't gorgeous.

Shuri's staff moves to the lounge, though one of the Doras hesitates there nearby. The Wakandan princess frowns, and finally loses a little of that formal composure. "Oh, for Bast's sake. It is /Wonder Woman/. I will be just fine. Go to the lounge with the others." She says, shaking her head wryly, and then moves to accompany Diana, as she starts towards the courtyard.

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana has to grin softly at the exchange between Shuri and her companion. Once the other leaves, Diana starts to walk with the Princess and smiles over to her. "They are quite loyal, and fond of you, so it seems. That is a very good thing." She states and as they walk through the central hall of the Embassy there are shelves on either sides of them with lots of little things from other cultures around the world, Diana had spent a long time after leaving Themyscira dealing in the antiquities field world wide. So as she takes a moment to stop and place the basket that Shuri had given her, she looks back to her and shows a little grin. "These are the first pieces of Wakanda culture I have ever had in my possession. It is an exciting addition." She exclaims. "I will set them all out later though. Come."

The Princess turns again to the end of the hall and walks with Shuri, a set of glass doors is visible just ahead that lead out to a green yard. "So what has lead you to New York?" Diana asks first of the newly arrived Princess. "Is this your first time here?"

Shuri has posed:
Once they are out of sight of the lounge, Shuri will drop the formality. "It is so good to see you again! And yes. It is not only my first time to New York, it is my first time /anywhere/ but Wakanda. Both my father and brother have more than a bit of a protective streak, I think." She moves on with Diana. "Officially, I am here as a diplomatic gesture. Unofficially...T'Challa is considering relaxing our country's isolationism. He has asked me to come to America, to scout locations for possible outreach centers. Given that Themyscira is similarly..."isolationist"..." And she makes literal air quotes with her fingers while she says it, "...I figured you have likely had to tread some of the same ground I will have to, on how to present your nation to the world."

And then a near-giggle. "And personally, I could not be in the same city as you and NOT take the opportunity to stop by and see you in person."

Wonder Woman has posed:
All of this amuses Diana to no end to get to see the true Shuri shine through once her people's expectations cannot be flustered by so much personality on display--such is the way of royalty after all, expectations are lofty to say the least generally.

Once they are outside in the courtyard they can walk peacefully through it, with the sun still high in the air it shining down on them both and it is in the low 70s so it is very comfortably warm outside today.

With a big smile, Diana walks aside Shuri. "I have done my best to help T'Challa feel more comfortable with the concept of what I have done myself... Setup a home like this, establish as open of dialogue as our people are capable of. We have this Embassy here in Manhattan, a... Themysciran Arts Center just on the other side of the block where the public can immerse themselves in our culture, and we have a Consulate in Metropolis which serves as a place for my people to come and learn more about the world before they set out into it fully, such as the ones I have living with me here."

"And of course I am more than happy to help you and your King with similar endeavors." Diana adds. "Why I can help come up with a suitable list of locations for you to visit in this very neighborhood."

Shuri has posed:
"That would be wonderful." Shuri says, voice warm. "There is so much I want to see and do while I am here that I barely know where to begin! And that's before even getting to anything I am /supposed/ to do. I am very glad that you were willing and able to see me. I had hoped I hadn't put you off with the earlier conversation. I imagine that is a reaction that you get all too often."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana smiles at Shuri whilst leading her through the sculpture and flower gardens of the courtyard, its a cobblestone pathway that waves through it all and she walks at a very casually slow pace. "Certainly not bothered by it." Diana responds in her deep Mediterranean accented English. "I... have not bee a public figure but for a handful of years, but the experience has been a humbling one. One that has lead me to believe that whatever purpose I am to serve in this world, is one that people are in need of. I..." Diana looks over to Shuri. "Only hope that I can continue to, meet the rather high bar of expectations that people seem to place for me. But, through it all, I remain ever vigilant in simply... being myself. That is all I truly strive toward, to remain true to me and do what -I- feel is best, and what -I- feel is right and just." She motions to a sculpture of two Amazon Warriors clashing blades. "To take the training that I was gifted with, and use it to guide me through all that comes before me. Good and bad." She glances again to Shuri, smiles softly again, then adds...

"We will get you a list of places you must visit and experience. I for one suggest the Shake Shack in Gramercy Park. They have wonderful chocolate shakes." Now the Princess is just grinning.

Shuri has posed:
Shuri walks on, impressed by the Embassy and the decor thereof. "I have seen no indications of you ever failing to live up to the expectations others set for you. But I know what that is like, though to a lesser extent, I'm sure." Her own voice is accented, though very differently than Diana's. But every royal knows what it's like to have standards that they are expected to live up to.

"That sounds wonderful! I only hope that things stay quiet long enough for me to do so. Though I doubt that they will." She sighs. "I'm sure the instant our motorcade started here, SOMEONE decided they needed to contact the press."

She takes a deep breath, and continues. "I have something else I would like to ask, if you are willing to consider it. Well, really, two somethings. The first would be cross-training. I think it might be beneficial to both of us, to have a small exchange of combat training. Perhaps one of my Dora Milaje could show your Amazons here some Wakandan combat techniques, in exchange for one of your Amazons doing the same at our Embassy." She clears her throat, and continues. "And...on a similar note...I would wonder if perhaps /I/ might be able to talk to you about some training. As I said, my family has...overprotective leanings. You saw my Dora's reaction earlier. They are so busy wanting me NOT to risk myself that I have trouble actually getting the training I'll need if things DO go badly."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana pauses their walk after hearing this, she'd smiled at the first responses from the young Shuri but once she gets to the latter, Diana realizes there's more significant impact of a request of that nature. "Our people can both utilize the Arts Center for combat training amongst one another. We have a large arena there where members of the public come to watch, some even to learn and train themselves. Though there are private spars within the fine facility of course, as well. We would truly love to learn from your people, and vice versa. Only to grow stronger, yes?" She flashes a quick grin before she moves on to the next part.

This part, the more personal part for Shuri herself, gets Diana's pointed chin to gently lower and her dark eyebrows to slightly raise. "This is something you really want?" She asks of Shuri, only because it reminds her of herself. "Of course I am willing, but... you know that I must ask T'Challa of it as well, yes? For if your people were to discover that I was doing something with their Princess that they did not approve of? It could go... poorly." She's sure that Shuri is aware of this, but it has to be said regardless.

Shuri has posed:
Shuri listens, nodding to the first part. "Of course." The second, though, she frowns a bit. "T'Challa is my king, but he is not my keeper. I am a woman grown, and I do not need my brother's permission for how I spend my personal time." Clearly, this is hitting right on a button issue for her.

Wonder Woman has posed:
This response gets a large grin from Diana and she gently nods her head a single time. "Trust me when I say that i admire that, more than I can really put to words, Shuri." She firstly responds as she glances back the way that they'd come from. "But..." She looks back to the other Princess. "Hypothetically speaking. If I were to train you as I have been trained, without bringing it up with your people. What do you think would happen, just so that I have... some insight into what to consider for the future?"

Shuri has posed:
"You /are/ bringing it up with my people. By bringing it up with me. I am Crown Princess of Wakanda, Diana. T'Challa has no heir. If something were to happen to him, Bast forbid, I would rule. And you know what our rulers must do. I need to be ready."

Shuri takes a deep breath, and continues. "My people trust my decision. I am not planning this to be entirely covert. I will tell my Doras what I am doing. I will train, one way or another. I would rather that be with your expertise. But if it cannot be, then it cannot be." And she gives a little smile. "You are still my favorite superheroine, either way."

Wonder Woman has posed:
Diana smiles to this response and she reaches out with her right hand to place it on the bicep of Shuri's left arm. There the hand gives the woman a soft but caring squeeze. "When you and your people have established yourself in the New York area, and we can begin a regimented schedule... we can see about providing you with lessons that will gauge your experience and where can we start." She tells the woman, seeing the passion inside of her knowing full-well its pretty much the same situation she was in in her own life a long time ago.

"It will be, Shuri." Diana says to the young woman. "Believe you me, I an a strong proponent for everyone knowing how to defend themselves and the things that they care about. But, you must get settled here first, you have a lot on your plate if your people are to establish an Embassy here in the immediate future. It will take up much of your time at first, but once it is so. Then we will begin."

Another quick smile is shown to the young Wakandan. "We will make sure that you know the best of my people. My sisters and I train very hard though, it is no easy experience."

Shuri has posed:
"You are correct." Shuri smiles. "Thank you. For your hospitality, and your wise words. And I do not mind hard work. I have already made weapons and attire for myself. For when the time is right." She offers a hand back to Diana. "I will look into the sites, and we can speak again soon. Oh, and do not forget to open the box in the basket. The rest is from Wakanda. But that is from me." And with that, she'll start the process of gathering up her people to head out.
