Hello Medical My Old Friend...
Date of Scene: 21 June 2019
Location: Recovery Room 01, The Triskelion
Synopsis: After the Zola affair, May has words with Skye in medical. Skye is grounded. And unhappy.
Cast of Characters: Quake, Melinda May

Quake has posed:
Medical in the Triskelion.

Skye was beginning to think she needed a frequent fliers miles card for the place. When she woke, it was dark, though even so, immediately a nurse had come and fussed over her, writing things down on Skye's chart, and disappearing again. Likely reporting to May that the patient had become conscious again.

Skye's arms are once again immobile, casted in pressure casts that do not allow for much of anything other than finger wiggling, and even that, Skye notes, is unpleasant, though they'll make her do it regardless while she heals.

Awake now, and bored, she counts ceiling tiles. Mostly because she has this evil inner notion that she'll compare notes with Hank. That is until she remembers she won't be typing anytime soon, even with Jemma's pills. And given Skye's hate-hate relationship with voice to text, she's either going to have to suck it up buttercup, or remain bored for the interim.

Melinda May has posed:
Skye was given just about twenty four hours to settle in to Medical before May arrived. For May, most of this time was spent compiling reports from the agents involved final mission and receiving reports on how the changeover to the new server has gone.

It's been non-stop hectic, and May has at best managed only a few catnaps here and there (and refused to let the medics check her more than very briefly upon their return). Finally, things are well enough under control that she makes her way to Medical to have a little chat with one Agent Johnson.

Warning sign number one: May didn't bring any food with her.

Warning sign number two: She actually LOOKS tired.

Quake has posed:
Okay the food bit Skye can brush off with the fact that she is being fed regularly here in medical. In fact they tuttut loudly if she doesn't eat. And Clint has snuck things in. But he's not had any word to give her on the servers or anything that Skye is *dying* to know more about and is being forced to lie back and stare at walls.

Okay, she's got a television, but unless she calls in the nurses to change the channels, it's stuck on one channel for hours on end, and even when they do change the channels it's all boooooorrrrrriiiing.

The young Agent is crawling the walls at teh 24 hour mark, even if she'd only been awake for about 12 of them.

That May looks tired - now that does give Skye pause. In fact, it's why she doesn't say anything, letting May break the silence in the room, intending on taking her cue from that. She's not unaware that her little stunt back there in Austria hadn't gone entirely to plan.

Melinda May has posed:
May stands there in the middle of the room and stares at Skye for a solid five seconds before saying a bit hoarsely, "You planned to do that, didn't you. Did you even bother to let Clint know what you had in mind?"

She looks for a moment like she's about to start pacing, but she doesn't. "I have a pretty good idea I know WHY you took that risk, but it was an /unnecessary/ risk. I can think of about seven other ways you could have done the exact same thing without shattering your arms, AGAIN, and without putting both Barnes' and Rogers' lives at risk.

She stops there and studies Skye's expression. "You are aware that Barnes took a not insignificant injury even for him trying to get you out of there, yes?"

She'd better be.

Quake has posed:
Skye... hadn't planned on things going *quite* that way. As with most things not terribly well planned out in advance, she ran the risk, and this was the outcome.

Skye shakes her head. She hadn't told Clint. Oh, he knew she was planning something - that look she'd put on her face while they were all eating stirfry the night before mission-go had spoke volumes, but she'd not told him exactly what she'd planned.

She imagined he'd not asked so that he'd have plausible deniability. She'd not told him for the same. And because she knew he'd try to talk her out of it.

"I didn't mean for it to go like that. It just took.. more than I expected." That, and by the end her anger and her hurt were significant enough they were running the show - all that emotions she'd used to fuel the effort she needed to do what she did had actually overtaken her.

"He's okay? Bucky, I mean."

She's not yet addressed the other, not that she's truly avoiding the issue.

Melinda May has posed:
"He will be. You know he heals about as quickly as Rogers. But you also know how well he does NOT handle Medical." Clearly, the last twenty four hours were no walk in the park for anyone.

"I can't let this slide, Skye, you've gotten away with too much already. You put two two other agents directly at risk with your actions and nearly did so for several more, including Barton." She pauses, either for dramatic effect or to get her thoughts into some semblance of order. "I'm putting an official reprimand in your file. You are confined to desk work until I say otherwise, but no less than a full calendar month."

Quake has posed:
Skye's lips press into a tight line, but she doesn't argue the reprimand. Or that there will be a note in her files. She doesn't like it, but she'll accept it (only realizing at this very moment how much she'd actually prided herself on her work here at SHIELD and not ever having an official reprimand before).

"I wanted - I was angry. He cut my mother up into tiny little bits, May. He tortured me and then turned me into what I am against my will. He did his experiments on innocent people, and lied to my people so that he could continue to do so. I wanted him dead and gone and buried so deep nobody would ever be able to find him again."

There's an unhappy twist to her lips. "I lost control. It got bigger than me. I'm sorry."

Melinda May has posed:
"Oh, he deserved every last bit of it. But as I said, there were so many other ways you could have done the exact same thing without re-injuring yourself and without putting others at risk. Hell, knowing Barnes, he could have come up with a dozen more way to take that mountain down than I can. And considering his history with Zola, he would have helped you gleefully."

At this point May stops dead for a moment, obviously listening to the comm in her ear, then sighing. She did actually sigh aloud. "They just had to sedate Barnes. Again." She's seriously considering calling in some serious help to get him out of Medical and back to his quarters faster.

Quake has posed:
"There aren't other ways to take mountains down. Not without putting everyone else at risk." Not that she hadn't put Barnes at risk. Then again she'd stupidly thought he'd leave when she told him to. That was a mistake she wasn't going to make again. In retrospect she should have known better.

When May says Barnes had to be sedated - again - Skye's features go flat. That kid in the system flat. Really about the same distant stare Bucky gives people when he tunes out. Skye's just never reason in recent memory to need to use it. "Then I guess you should go take care of him."

Lying back, she turns to counting ceiling tiles, even if she already knows exctly how many there are, and which ones are partials. And where the stains on them are.

Melinda May has posed:
May recognizes that flat expression only too well. She remembers it from when Skye first arrived here. She also knows there's no point in talking to the woman if she's going to shut them out. So, you know what? After watching Skye for several seconds, she turns and leaves the room.

When Skye is ready to stop moping, she'll find that Lewis has been assigned to help her and an office in the Analysis section of the Triskelion (close to R&D actually) has been reserved for her use.
