The Cyber Geeks Meet
Date of Scene: 10 July 2019
Location: Computer Lab - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Smart Alek, Cypher

Smart Alek has posed:
The Computer Lab is empty, other then Alek, whose seems to have a home here. Some cans of soda and some empty soup containers sit by the computer he's at. He has one hand on one computer and the other on another. The two computers flicker as they seem to being operated by him. On one of the computers is a IDE for programming and on the other a web browser that is apparently searching programming websites. A brief pause ever so often and a few lines of code appear in the IDE.

Alek doesn't even move a muscle, almost frozen in his vigil over the two PCs.

Cypher has posed:
They kept saying Doug should meet him, but he hasn't had a chance to. It's just the way those things work out.

Truth be told Doug doesn't usually use the computer lab. He has his own rig, which he uses on his own time. But today, specifically, he had a moment.

He approaches digitally, first, from a tablet outside.

A script window opens on Alek's network, titled 'WARLOCK' -

Query: An external user on this network wishes to communicate with you. Do you accept communication Y/N?

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek blinks a moment, he mentally types 'Y' to the prompt, he would normally start tracing packets back to their sender but.. he's currently still set on this programming assignment he signed himself up for. It wouldn't be too bad to see whom might be interested in chatting either, keep it a mystery for the moment.

Cypher has posed:
There is a '...' in the window, and then more text appears.

CYPHER: Hi, Alek. I thought it might be easier to approach you digitally first, rather than interrupt what you were doing. I know what it's like to get intensely focused and then get shocked out of what you're working on.

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek doesn't move his body, all of his typing is done mentally it seems, "Surprised you know my name, which means.. either I should get freaked out or be flattered. Are you around here physically then? By all means if you want to come along, I'm in the computer lab."

Cypher has posed:
'Just outside.'

The chat window closes, and the door opens. Doug comes in, the spitting image of ordinary, from his flip-flops to his cargo pants to his black t-shirt with a yellow fish on it and 'BABEL' in big block text.

"Hi." He says. "Actually Sam and some of the others wanted me to meet you." He remains standing where he is, quietly studying the man sitting at the computer.

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek looks over... his eyes drift to Doug's face a brief moment before looking along his t-shirt, "Hi, Umm, why would they want you to meet me?" His hands fidgit from their spots on the desktops, "I hope that's a good thing."

Cypher has posed:
Doug sighs, and gives a faint smile. He doesn't try to hold eye contact. Instead, he walks in, his posture relaxed, and avoids crowding the young man. "They thought I might be able to be a sort of mentor to you -- or at least someone who might be someone you could talk to."

Doug extends his hand, palm-up. "I'm told you have an easier time communicating with people if you touch them." He leaves the invitation open.

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek blinks a bit, he looks down at the hand.. "If you don't mind." He reaches out slowly and he touches Doug's hand with his own, He gives a bit of a smile, and he retrieves his hand, His voice is audible to you but his mouth doesn't move, "It's a form of telepathy, I just needed to make some sort of physical contact. If they told you about it, I give you respect for allowing me to communicate this way." He looks you briefly in the eyes again before his eyes sort of do the same drift downward, "I'm on the autism spectrum, it's hard for me to figure out all the little cues you normals take for granted. I hope you don't mind this method of communication?"

Cypher has posed:
There is the lightest brush over Doug's consciousness, and the faintest impression of what HE sees. Humans are pattern recognition machines, it's one of the cornerstones of their success as a species.

In that respect, Doug is to a human what a human would be to a dog.

"I understand." He says. Or thinks, rather. He keeps his expression schooled, neutral. "You're speaking a different language. I still understand it."

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek hmms a bit, "I see why they would want me to meet you then. I don't understand them, non-living things are far easier for me to understand." He briefly gives Doug a glimpse at his own view as he looks back at Doug instead of seeing a person only, there is numerous rays of light and swirling vortices comes off Doug, flashes of light seem to come off the cell phone and tablet he carries, they intermingle with the same flashes that seem to fill the vary room. His is brief before it returns back to normal, "And that is with me not touching an item.. that's far more.. overwhelming in detail."

Cypher has posed:
Doug takes this in stride. "I see." He says. "Well. If you ever need somebody to talk to," He keeps his 'tone' modulated and quiet, "You can talk to me." He gives a faint smile, and then says, "...Do you want to show me what you're working on? I know a little bit about computers."

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek looks to Doug and then the PCs, "Well, I can communicate with them better then I can communicate with you.. I can speak their language. " He whispers something, and your cellphone vibrates as if it just got a text message (if you have it on vibrate) "I'm not good at programming though, I'm working on one of these little 'how to program in 30 days' examples."

Cypher has posed:
"Oh." Doug says, before he picks up his phone, and says, simply, "Neat." He tries texting him back. "I can come up with a few excercises for you too." But he doesn't butt in. "Having said that..." He broadcasts, "Is there anything that I can do for you?"

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek makes an odd noise and the phone shows that the message was sent successfully, "I can imitate the sounds and language of them." He seems slightly surprised, "If you can come up with something to help me along, it would be great. So Patterns are your thing? Like, better then your average bear at seeing them?" he cants his head a bit.

Cypher has posed:
"Yes." Doug says, simply enough. "I'm a specialized hypercognate, with possible metapsionic powers." He sits on the edge of a desk and crosses his feet at the ankles, before he leans back on his hands. "It first manifested as the ability to rapidly comprehend and communicate in other languages. That's still how I tend to think of it."

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek nods, he cursory does try and keep looking over to you as he 'talks', "I see the world as patterns too.. I shoudl say I 'feel' them at a subatomic level. I'm not actually seeing you, but I'm feeling the light bounce off of you and against me, along with the air movement, etc. it was an overwhelming experience for the first dozen years of my life.. unlike others it seems, I was born with it active."

Cypher has posed:
"I can understand. I think... I might be in real trouble mentally if I hadn't developed like a normal human before the first manifestation of my abilities. It helps that they grew gradually -- for a time. I had a... traumatic event that offlined me for a few years, and when I came back to myself, my powers had grown exponentially. I think... they would've always wound up like this. But it took some getting used to." He gives a faint smile. "It's hard, sometimes, seeing what others don't. Getting a read into other people's emotions, their nonvocalized communication, then playing dumb about it."

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek says, "Similar Experience. I keep myself from listening to all the cellphones conversations.. The internet porn surfing. My tactile memory is hard to deal with at times too.. I keep a pair of gloves around just in case I don't want to see the DNA of everyone I shake hands with." he nods a bit, "I didn't see it as prying until I noticed my first person people call a mutant.. other then myself.""

Cypher has posed:
"It can be a learning experience." Doug agrees. "...When I joined the school, the class was smaller. We had a little clique -- we were very loyal to each other. That helped." He tilts his head at Alek, and then says, "Would it be all right if I tried to help the others socialize with you a bit? See if maybe I can help them understand how best to communicate with you?"

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek shrugs, "If you can help sure." He considers, "If you understand languages, I guess programming is just another pattern like talking." he considers for a bit, "I guess we are very much alike. I can see and imitate the patterns, but you can comprehend them. We do make a good clique." he chuckles a bit.

Cypher has posed:
"Yeah. Yeah, we do." Doug says, before he murmurs "And right now, what I'm intimating is that you'd like to take a break from this classwork and play some Mario Kart. Am I on the right track?"

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek a wave a hand and the two computers simultaneously shutdown.. "Sounds like a great idea. No cheating." He squints his eyes, "You do.. and we could have issues." He jumps up from his chair, excited. A friendly face in a new school, it's almost home.
