Shadowcat has posed:
The book mobile idea was met with some debate early on. Who still reads books, some asked. Though the addition of cheaply produced small tablets that could be given out to needy kids with a freeware book reader installed helped bring the idea to life. The little mini-bus had been fitted with shelves and storage areas, and painted to express that it was a bookmobile, run by mutants and serving everyone. No mention of the school itself is made, though.

The day was spent in mostly lower income areas in Metropolis. Now it is getting late, the sun is setting. The group is driving through town looking for any last places worth stopping. Though after turning down this particular street, it looks like mostly more expensive houses dot this area.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy is quite excited to be doing this. He's dressed up, his hair combed and gelled, the rest of his hair conditioned! That took a while. He's helping take shifts to drive the bookmobile, safety first! And he's taking this evening shift. "Think we should try to stop here? Rich kids deserve encouragement, too."

Magik has posed:
Illyana is entirely unsure what she is doing on this adventure.

She dressed for the occation, in so far as she is not wearing armor or carrying her Soul Sword, but it is with great reluctance that she did not insist on wearing something loose fitting that she might easily engage in inpromptu combat. Call it precaution, call it a violent mean streak, she was adament about it.

Suffice to say that she is wearing, not clothing suit able for warfare with True Believers of some incessently ferverous dribble spoken from the mouths of evil humans, but a dress. Something tasteful, long to below her knees, and her hair is as straight as ever, but pinned back with plastic clips that resemble butterflies.

"The rich should be made to provide encouragement for those neighborhoods we have already visited. Their perpencity for charity, if not born inherent in themselves, should be encouraged at sword point." She says quietly, but with no less air of intent. She even glances up to make absolute certain that nobody will let her do so. Doubting, given the company, she'll find that... she resigns to her seat with her arms crossed over her chest like an child who was not allowed cake for breakfast.

Sunspot has posed:
When Roberto said he had a whole day to help with the school, he didn't have this in mind.

Also, it was not completely true. He has been in the phone a good deal of time. Showing an amazing amount of patience with the callers, who are apparently all corporate minions that can't make a decision by themselves and usually lack any common sense. Old Roberto would have lost patience long ago. Current day Roberto somehow manages to keep his wits, rein his temper and still be somewhat useful for the current X-task.

But seriously. A bookmobile? He needs to talk with the X-Men leadership soon.

Illyana's ideas draw his attention up from his cell, though. Another skill he has learned in the past couple years: how to pay attention to multiple conversations at the same time. "I am afraid that is not how charity is encouraged in America, Yana. Or in Brazil. I know a bit about it, being one of those 'rich' guys."

Shadowcat has posed:
There has been a mixed reaction to the bookmobile's openly mutant connection. And with Hank there, the lettering on the bus gets plenty of backup these are actually mutants doing these good deeds. People began to come around though. And kids? They didn't discriminate nearly as much.

As the discussion about means for encouraging charitable participation gets underway, there is a beep from the bus's communication system. The one that includes secure encryption for moments just like this. Kitty Pryde's face comes up on the little display screen built into the dashboard. "Hank, Illyana, Roberto? We have a situation," she says. Once they've responded so Kitty knows they are receiving, she continues.

"I picked up some chatter on a pro-mutant site on the dark web. Someone posted they received a tip. You guys remember Michael Jovich? He's that civil, and mutant rights, leader in Metropolis who has been doing the rallies there this summer? It sounds like someone might try to make an example of him tonight if the tip is right. Could you guys go and check in on him while you're there in Metropolis? Here's his address," Kitty says. The screen pops up a map. The house is just about three blocks away actually.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy slows the bus and parks on the side of the street when the comms spark in. "Kitty, looks like we're right in the area. So much for this suit, if that turns out to be trouble Well, it's for a good cause. We can be there in just a couple of minutes." Looking to the others, he sits up to pull his jacket off, then his tie.

Magik has posed:
"Then you should be ashammed of yourself." Yana does not own a cellphone, but she has taken one of the cheap tablets they are handing out and is looking at.. something. She isn't even sure what game she's playing. Nor if she's successfully playing it. If she's being honest, she's not sure she's not holding the tablet upside down.

Technology is not her strong suit.

She need not contend with it long as shortly thereafter the call comes in from Kitty that there is a matter they should look in on. She will not say that the notion of a potential fight is better than handing out reading material to children, but she almost certainly doesn't have to by eagerly she pops up from her seat. "Da." Agreeing with Hank that they are in good position to facilitate and adding her seal of approval.

Sunspot has posed:
"I am not ashamed of my wealth, why should I?" And Roberto could say much more about it, but Kitty's call derails the conversation. Instead he clicks furiously at his cell for a minute, and then turns it off. Whatever the minions need, they will have to wait.

"Hey Kitty," he says, smiling to the brunette on the screen. "Cult you send us a picture and whatever you have on this guy? I will read while Doctor McCoy drives. I have been off the game too long. I don't know this Jovich person."

Shadowcat has posed:
Once the trio are ready, and have made contact with Scott Summers where he is at in the Bubble Tea Bus, it is not a long drive to the address provided. The area doesn't have the tremendous mansions like the von Doom estate that they passed earlier. But the houses are large, set back from the street about a hundred feet or more with nice expansive lawns.

This particular house is a two story Colonial with a long porch in front. (https://assets.architecturaldesigns.com/plan_assets/32562/large/32562wp.jpg?1533222833)

Kitty has sent a dossier to them. Someone can even show Illyana how to pull it up on the tablet! Michael Jovich is Polish by birth, and owns a cheese factory which left him rather well off. A father of three, ages 6, 8 and 9, with the youngest being a mutant son who can cause things to change colors, Michael began to get involved in civil rights affairs. His wife and he are currently separated, and according to Kitty's information she has her own residence now.

Arriving on the block, the sun is down now. There are street lights on, and a few lights over at the house. No cars are parked out on the street, with how long the driveways are. There's room down the street the trio can park without going all the way to the house, if they choose.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy chuckles as he rolls up his sleeves. "Let's re-fight the Russian Revolution later, alright? That could be a family in danger." He pulls the bus out from the curb again, and drives a little bit faster than he has been previously. Not dangerously, just, more urgently. A few books are vibrating a bit more than they have been all day, as the wheels of the bus go round and round. Once there, he parks on the far side of the street, for a better view, and a couple of houses down. "Alright, Roberto, you go knock on the door? Illyana, you go scout the back of the house, and I'll watch from the front?"

Cyclops has posed:
Scott puts the bubble tea bus into a line of parked vehiclea three blocks out. He hops out of the bus and phones Hank.

"Hey, it's me. Can you get Illy to go get us some gear? Comms, night optics, cell jammer. Until she's back, spread them out with overlapping views of the house from across the street. Preferably with a view of the approaches. I'll be in the hedge at the northwest corner," Scott rattles off. "And have her ask Kitty if she can get a drone or something out to keep an overall view. Ready for a long boring night?"

Scott sighs and slips into a hedge where he is obscured from view but can see up and down the street and his corner of the property. He swaps his glasses for his visor just in case and settles in for the tedium of surveillance.

Sunspot has posed:
Roberto has no objection to Hank's plan. Although as Scott calls the doctor, he waits for more instructions for a minute. "You might want to hop to Limbo for a minute to get your outfit, looks like we are going to be here for a while." Then Hank, "alright, I am going to speak with Mr. Jovich. Keep an eye on me?"

He heads out of the vehicle, adjust his tie and walks towards the main door, hitting the doorbell as he looks around carefully for anything suspicious. Just in the case they are too late. Berto doesn't want any nasty surprise.

Magik has posed:
Illyana out and out ignores Hank's earlier chastisment of their conversation prior to Kitty's relay of information. She does not know how to opporate the tablets and though she does try, it's not working, so she leans over to look at Henry's for the information they've been provided. "Da." She says after pale eyes take in the buildings layout and she's starting fo the front of the mobile with her clothing changing into something more sensible.

Black leather armor with a metalic pauldron upon her left shoulder. Her hair is twisted into a braid upon stepping from the vehicle, but Scott's instructions find her stalling before heading in the indicated direction towards the back of the residence. Pausing for a second to recount what she's being instructed to do, Illyana nods, as if anyone can see that, and teleports herself in the direction of the X-Men base rather than the backyard.

Loading up with the requested equipment in two trips that are seperated by a few minutes to gather them. All of it is dumped unceremoniously onto the floor of the book mobile, glaring distastefully at her errands before teleporting again, this time towards where she can feel Kitty to be. "Scott wants you to put a drone in the air." Standing with a hand on her hip, jaw twisted out to the side slightly.

It is her displeased face.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty manages not to grin a bit as she sees the expression on her long-time friend's face. "Sure, let me grab one," she says. Kitty is in the war room of the base, and runs through the wall in the direction of where some of the supplies are kept. She soon returns with a drone which she hands to Illyana. "Just set it on the ground back there and I'll fly it from here," Kitty says. "Good luck!"

Meanwhile, back in Metropolis, Roberto walks up to the front door and rings the bell. An extra light beside the door is turned on, and a man that looks like the picture of Michael Jovich answers the door. "Good evening, what is it?" he asks in a polite enough voice, glancing out into the reasonably well lit street out beyond the long grassy yard, then back to Roberto. Behind Michael can be heard the sounds of the two boys talking back and forth as if playing some game.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy nods to Scott's orders. "Roberto's already on the way to the door, but I'll move out to another corner to watch. Just in case." Sleeves rolled up, he engages the parking brake, and hops out onto his bare feet, quietly moving to watch. Sharp ears and eyes open to see what goes on with Roberto especially.

Cyclops has posed:
Scott sighs as he hangs up and one of his fists balls then relaxes. With their package at the door, he does not risk going to pick up his gear from Illyana. Instead he keeps an eye out, on Roberto and the roads he can see.

Sunspot has posed:
"Mr. Jovich," greets Roberto. "I am Roberto DaCosta, I am with the Xavier School for the Gifted. We have been warned anti-mutant activists could come here to cause some trouble and we wanted to check if everything was going well with you." He offers the other man his card. Well, one of them, one with a school phone number.

"Doctor McCoy is in the bus," points out Roberto, mentioned maybe the most famous of Xavier's acolytes. "We were in the neighbor on a, hmm, goodwill charity run, I suppose. If you need any help do not hesitate to call us, please."

Magik has posed:
"Blagodaryu vas.." Illyana says to Kitty when handed the drone, "Thank you." Hoisting it to indicate for what, "We talk later, da?" The answer will have to wait or she just assumes it will be yes. She teleports before it comes and reappears with drone in hand. "I have drone." She tells everyone into the comm unit she fixes to the back of her right ear beneath one of her braids. The machine is set down on the ground and looks to find the on switch. "How do you make this turn on? Does it beep like microwave oven?"

She really doesn't like technology at all.

"Cyclops?" She repeats it, taps it, then sighs... Rather than wait around she snatches up one of the comms units and teleports to where he's watching from a hedge. She is very quiet when she speaks up from right behind his shoulder, "You hang up. I bring you ear piece." Which she dangles in front of his face. "Why do you look like your heart is attacking? Should not be so red in face.. bad for blood pressure." Pause, deadpan.. "Good to see you."

Cyclops has posed:
"Contact without setting surveillance first? Contact with no plan whatsoever? Ignoring team leader directions? Not waiting for comms gear so half the team is out of contact? Burning off half the team? No idea why my heart is attacking, Illyana," Scott grits out at a whisper. He takes the earpiece and fits it in place.

"Thanks. Get eyes on the southeast and approaches. And... Good to see you, too."

Scott folds his arms across his chest and waits, trusting Hank to salvage the situation.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty's voice can be heard over their comms. "I can turn it on from here, Yana," she says. And sure enough, the drone's quad propellers start up, the thing quiet as a dragonfly as it takes off into the night.

Meanwhile at the door, Michael takes the card and says, "Henry McCoy? The Nobel winner?" He's definitely familiar with the mutant, Michael peering out and looking around for the vehicle and finally spotting the bus down the road.

Michael frowns. "Someone coming here, you said?" He looks back into the house, expression that of a father who just heard his children may be in danger. "Everything's been fine. Quiet night. Someone called but it was just a wrong number. Nothing unusual really. Do you think it's safe for us to stay?" he asks.

As Scott gets his gear and Illyana helps him avoid a heart murmur, Kitty's voice comes back over the comms. "Pretty quiet out there. There are three vehicles in the neighborhood. A sedan heading away. A minivan to your east, and, another minivan to your west, both heading down your street that way," Kitty says.

About then the lights go out. All of the house lights on the block, and the street lights. "Um, minivans are /both/ accelerating!" Kitty says into the comms.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy hears that talk is going on, and that there's trouble from Kitty, so he hightails it across the street, jumping over Michael's lovely yard and onto the path. "Mr. Jovich. Hank McCoy," he calls out. "I don't know who's angry at you, but someone else. If you have any kids at home with you, wake them up, and get them onto the bus quickly. This could be an urgent matter. We're here to help in any way you need."

Cyclops has posed:
"Copy, Kitty," Scott says. "Illy, take the van to the east. Stop it. If they don't retreat, make them. No bodies, if you can avoid it please," he says, the last with a wry smile.
hen Scott drops to one knee. He fires a very narrow shot toward the center of the van's grill with enough force to melt half the engine. Then he puts the hedge between himself and the van and sprints while hidden to cover closer to the van but out of the line of fire of his last spot.

Sunspot has posed:
"I suppose so, Metropolis is..." Roberto was going to say it is Superman's city, and probably much safer than New York. But then the lights go out and he winces. "Lets assume the worst, please gather your children and lets get into the bus," as Hank appears, the young Brazilian adds, "we have a teleporting volunteer we can use to get you all to safety."

Through Hell. But he will avoid mentioning such small details.

Magik has posed:
"You should not stress." Illyana is quiet, watching the front where Sunspot is talking with their target, but pats Scott's shoulder reassuringly. It is very robotic, with no feeling behind it. She is not known for her motivational speeches or empathy for peoples plight. That is someone elses domain.

Her domain begins when the lights all go out and Kitty informs them that the vehicles are accelerating. Her presence changes, the air around her grows just a little warmer, but she doesn't rush off without being given word to do so. "Would you like me to intercept one of vehicles and correct them on the legal speed limit in a residential zone?" She murmurs quietly, one of her hands is already starting to radiate with something sinister and firey.

"No bodies." She says it kind of like, IF I MUST, then disappears from behind where Scott is crouching. To appear in the street directly in front of the approaching minivan. They've got time to stop, but not much. She's also carrying a flaming sword in one hand and a ball of fire in the other. Now, the sword wont do anything to that vehicle and she cannot actually throw the fire, but they don't know that.

She is also grinning.

Unpleasantly.

Shadowcat has posed:
Michael sees the shadow jumping across the lawn, though even in the dark he is able to tell that sounds like Henry McCoy, with that distinctive deep and well-spoken voice of his. "Oh, oh no," Michael says. He turns back into the house. "Kids, kids come here, now!" he calls to them. The middle child, a daughter is there right away. The boys are taking longer, though they can be heard complaining that the power being out means they can't play their video game. Michael yells at them again, seeming to spur them towards the front door finally.

Meanwhile, Cyclops's optic beam punches a hole into the van's engine. It immediately shudders from the impact, and flames start up under the hood when oil hits a hot spot on the engine. The doors open and four figures in dark clothing emerge. One has a submachine gun in hand, another a shotgun but it would be a long shot to Cyclops with the latter weapon. The other two both have a sword jutting up over their shoulder.

Meanwhile, Illyana appears suddenly in front of the minivan, her flames making her stand out as one of the only sources of light on the street. There is a moment the van's brake lights come on, instinct, but then they go off and the sound of the engine racing can be heard as the person floors it, steering right at her!

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy grabs the girl and one of the boys, one in each arm. "Thank you Mr. Jovich. Right this way, into the bookmobile. Our friends and associates are working right now to assure your safety. And don't worry kids, we have plenty of books and games in the bus." Once in the bus, he'll contact the team. "Family is out of the house. Getting some distance." And at that, he'll seek to drive a distance away.

Cyclops has posed:
Scott crouches again and touches his visor. He fires out as wide a beam as he can toward the people who bailed out of the burning van. He amps the power down to enough to do serious injury but not likely to kill. Then he ducks behind cover to avoid any return fire if they do not go down.

"Contact west. Van out. Submachine, shotgun, two sword," he updates over comms. "Kitty I'm in cover, damage assessment on my targets."

Sunspot has posed:
Roberto watches warily for more approaching vehicles or people, and helps taking the children into the bus, taking the driving seat since Hank is taking care of the kids. "I'll get them all out of here, McCoy. Send Magik to pick us up when she is free. And please, don't let anyone run her over. Kitty would be quite upset."

And so would he. But Roberto knows the Russian girl is quite able to handle a speeding van or three. Jovich and his kids, not so much. So as much as he wants to fry the vans, he stays at the wheel, hits the gas, and drives the bus away as fast as the vehicle allows.

Magik has posed:
There is a moment where she is very disappointed that the driver did not rise to her unspoken challenge. The flash of those breaklights is a signal that they've not the stomach for Illyana's calling out, but then the minivan accelerates. "Oh good." She says genuinely pleased by this developement. The sinister nature of her grin only grows wider the faster the minivan goes and she, in fact, starts walking in their direction as well.

She has no intentions of being struck by that vehicle, however.

Not in the manner which they clearly intend and certainly not in a manner they are going to appreciate.

At the last possible moment, she steps out of the way and brings her hand up to let her fingers dance across the door as it passes. If even one bit of her makes contact, she will teleport the van into the exact same spot, but at a different angle. Their tragectory pointing them directly at the thickest tree lining the sidewalk.

Shadowcat has posed:
Scott's shot takes out two of the armed assailants, one with a sword, and the one with the submachine gun. They get blasted backwards, rolling down the street and laying still. Kitty's voice comes over comms. "Van is catching fire, looks like you got two," she says to Scott. The remaining to start running at Scott, weaving and zigzagging, totally unlike Rickon Stark. One pulls his sword, and throws something ahead of him which billows out smoke, making it tougher for Cyclops to spot them in the dark.

Hank and Roberto run with the kids and Michael towards the bookmobile bus. As they do, Hank suddenly turns a beautiful shade of purple. He looks like he could accessorize Betsy like that. The little mutant boy giggles at the change and claps his hands, not really catching onto the danger. Roberto peels out, leaving Hank there to help.

Illyana manages to teleport the van, though her fingers are going to be sore tomorrow. It slams into the tree, the horn starts going off as the driver's head is resting on it. The doors open and people fall out more so than climb out. One raises a pistol and begins firing wildly. Another pulls a sword as he tries to stagger to his feet.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy looks at himself in the rear view mirror... then back at the laughing boy. "You, you're funny. I think you're going to be in my Biology class one day. See you kid, I have to try to wash this off." Slapping Roberto on the back, he hops out of the bus, and tries to group up with Scott.

Cyclops has posed:
"Copy, moving. Call them through the smoke. Update Illyana? Hank?"

Scott uses the cover of smoke to sprint back between houses in a straight line. He uses the corner of a house as cover, kneels and if anything steps through the smoke he unloads on it.

Magik has posed:
"Minivan has hit tree. Poor driving conditions with darkness. Looks like they live. Give me second to check on their medical condition." Said as Illyana shakes her hand after the Van teleports and flexes her fingers even though she barely feels the pain. They very well may be broken, but her expression doesn't change at all, not with the spectacle of the minivan smashing into a tree to keep her warm. It is rewarding and pleasant to her soul when the metal crunches against bark and then lets out a long blurting horn blow from head upon steering wheel.

Her feet turn beneath her and angle her steps in the direction of the doors being shoved up open with bodies tumbling out like so much refuge. The Soul Sword is gone now, she wont be needing that, but she has other weapons at her disposal. A throwing axe, for instance.

it comes up as she walks and whistles across the distance towards one of the armed thugs spilling out of the vehicle. The most logical target being the individual with a pistol. Scott said no bodies. So she aims for his gun hand rather than his face.

She has good aim.

Pale blue eyes full of dark humor turn on the goon with a sword, "Put down sword. I hope you do not do that... but you should. I will hurt you."

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty calls over the comms, "One moving around your left side of smoke, Cyclops, and one waded right into it up the middle. Looks like two people are bailing on foot and running from Magik's van."

The flying axe hits the man's arm, cutting deeply at the wrist, but not severing it. He cries out and drops the gun, cradling his badly wounded limb and pulling out something to tie around it as a tourniquette.

Two other men make it back to their feet. One pulls a katana and goes after Illyana, rushing towards her, his footwork showing he is a competent swordsman.

The other man spots Purple Beast coming to assist Illyana. He throws a pair of shuriken, mainly to occupy his attention as the man closes the distance, pulling his own sword to try to slash at Beast.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy is attacked. "Scott, I'm under attack, going to hold them off as well as I can." His tie is snapped in two by one of the thrown weapons, and a fluff of purple fur floats into the air. That was close! Beast keeps on moving. When you're a big target you haveto be fast, leaping into the air at the man. If all goes well, Mr. Ninja Stars and Swords is going to have two fists hammer into his back and slam him into the ground. "Illegal forward pass, offense, five yards from the spot of the foul."

Cyclops has posed:
With Kitty's guidance, Scott readies a wide beam for where he guesses the two will come through the smoke. As soon as he sees them he will take his shot from partial cover.

"Nice work, Illyana. Moving up toward you, Hank," Scott says. If he gets his shots in he will sprint toward Hank. Otherwise he will hold to deal with the immediate threats.

Magik has posed:
Illyana is not afraid of much, certainly nothing born of Earth.

More to the point, she delights in the thought that this human might present her a challenge.. or maybe just finding it amusing that they think they will. "One of them is going to learn to text with his other hand." She says, making certain Cyclops knows that she hasn't killed anybody yet, "He is alive."

She stands with her hands out at her sides as Katana rushes towards her with his fancy foot work. Never once is she not grinning. Even with a broken finger, which she is only marginally aware of because her fists look awkward with a pinky jutting out at the wrong angle, she's waiting for something.

That something comes when the Katana wielding human is close enough to feel like he's safe and too close to expect what happens next. From either side, directly out of nowhere, a pair of teleportation discs open and six Imps dive out like ravenous hyennas. Practically leaping over one another, three on each side, to grab at and maul towards the goon as if they fully intend to rend him down to his base parts.

Her head slowly cants to one side, eyes staring at this little display with her smile fading. Just a second. Then she turns and starts walking back towards the van to check on the driver, "I want him to live. I do not want him to enjoy it."

Shadowcat has posed:
Optic blasts from Cyclops send the two men flying, knocking them out cold and lying in the street. Meanwhile, Beast's adversary is good, good enough he nearly eludes the blows from the acrobatic mutant. But only nearly. He goes down hard, no match for Beast's strength.

The man fighting Illyan reacts with skill as the portals open beside him. Two demons are cut through before they can even fully clear the disk. The others manage to jump on him and overwhelm him, though two more die in a testament to his ability. Clearly this wasn't just some street punk.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy communicates. "Attacker down. Finding my way to you now, Scott. Need anything?" At teh very least, Hank will make him self a wall that any ambusher will have to make his way through.

Cyclops has posed:
Scott slows to a stop and crouches to minimize his target in case he missed someone.

"I have four down, Hank. If Illyana and the package are clear, let's check these guys quick for clues and get out."

Magik has posed:
Illyana glances back to make sure the street thug is down and nods seeing that the two remaining Imps are swatting at him where he lays mostly alive, if a little worse for ware. "Stay until we are gone." She says to them, poking her head in to check that the drive of the minivan survived the crash. "Another is not dead." She says in comms. If the drive moves, she'll slam his face against the steering wheel. "Two are not dead."

Then she'll start going through pockets, but expects to find very little. Someone is giving them orders, however, so she'll focus on finding cellphones or some form of radio. "They are using katana. Very skilled. For humans..." That much she knows.

Shadowcat has posed:
The men refuse to talk, and are taken in hand by the police, who have begun to respond once neighbors started spotting optic beams and car crash, plus the one minivan which is now a roaring fireball after the engine caught fire. The team has a chance to search them first though. They note some tattoos on them which later investigation will reveal to be gang signs from the Black Dragon tong. One of them also has a receipt from a place in New York, which after digging further, is a restaurant right beside what is suspected to be a Black Dragon business front.
