Interview with a Beast!
Date of Scene: 12 July 2019
Location: Unknown
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Beast, Supergirl

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy normally only surprises the people who haven't heard of him. But being a bright purple at the moment, instead of blue, he's surprising even the people who know him. But regardless, he ties on a new blue tie and heads down to a Manhattan-based university to give a talk. The thesis: Terrorism against mutants will backfire and bring decent people onto the side of mutants. "Most humans, of any color, are decent. Decent people just don't stand for that. Thank you, and be kind to each other." Smiling to the applause, he steps off of the stage.

Supergirl has posed:
And Kara Zor-E... oops. Kara Danvers had been covering this talk as part of her class. That, and the fact that she found it interesting. And relevant to her struggles currently. And so she had traveled all the way down to New York City (and dealt with the whole passport thing, you know, like a human! Instead of zipping over there). Adjusting her glasses, she spent half of her time tapping away at her phone, and the other half scribbling down notes on a page.

And when the time comes, and the purple Beast steps off the stage, Kara was one of those that step up to intercept him. "Dr. McCoy, Dr. McCoy!" she calls out.

"Kara Danvers, Journalism student - do you have time for an interview?"

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy was starting to make his way into the back to snag a snack, but then he's called out. Raising a hand, about to give a friendly brush off, she introduces herself. "Ms. Danvers, hello. I'd be happy to help. Perhaps slip out into the hall, where it's a bit quieter, and not full of happy lunch eaters?" Assuming she'll follow, he will lead her on out, and indeed grabs a sandwich on the way. Which vanishes in about three seconds.

Supergirl has posed:
To be honest... Kara did snatch a sandwich too along the way, even if she tucks it into her purse as she goes along.

But as she was, she settles by one of the sides of the hall, looking up to Henry's features. "You're purple, Dr. McCoy. Is this a bug, or a feature?" she asks, even as she starts to gather her things - old-fashioned notebook settled over the crook of her arm.

One might get the implication that the interview hadn't started yet, with the way that her voice lifts with that question.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy laughs. "That's a complicated question, Kara. I was born just... big. That's my mutation, or a large part of it. An experiment gone wrong turned me blue and fuzzy." He looks down at the fuzz all over any part of him that exposed. "The purple... is temporary. One of the children I Was talking about, that i saved from an attempted terorrist attack, decided to use his mutation to turn me purple. It's temporary... and it is what it is. None of my clothes are chosen to work with purple. I had to get a whole new tie."

Supergirl has posed:
Laughter comes from her, sparkling and honest.

And the hidden Super journalist taps her pen against her pad, making notes. "I really appreciate you taking the time for this, too," she says, crimson-painted lips lifting in an honest smile. "I have to ask, though - did he think he was helping you? /Is/ purple your favorite color?" she inquires.

Before starting on the interview proper. "It's the terrorists that I have to speak about - for every Beast, there's a supervillain wanting to use their powers for evil - what would you say to people who might say 'if the terrorists get rid of both the good and the bad superpeople, that's alright'?"

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy grins. "You're welcome." He looks around, and steps up to one of the flavored water dispensers, filling himself up a cup. With a sip, he shrugs. "I was just about to get out of the bus to go make sure the terrorists didn't get to the kids house, after we pulled the kids away from their video games, when I saw in the rear view mirror I was purple. I can't say it's my favorite color, especially this bright. I'm probably more of a red, white, and blue man." Humming as he considers the other questin, with a big sip. "Oh. So you're saying, the ones who go after people even more broadly than mutants? One-off powers, technology, aliens? That's even worse. I take a very expansive view of humanity, dignity, and rights. I have to."

Supergirl has posed:
"I understand, I think - what you consider to be humans are people of all sorts; not just mutants, but even ... say... sorcerors and magicians and things like that," Kara says. Jotting down what he says, there was a smile that springs back up to her lips. "Red, white and blue - very patroitic colors, especially coming off of Independance day," she says, lifting her eyebrows and smiling a little wider.

"So. You probably have heard of the X-Men. It's said that they run a mutant only group - with a thought that everyone is human, would you agree, or disagree with the X-Men's stance to have mutants only in their roster."

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy rolls his shoulders in his suit, and smiles. "Ms. Danvers, I'm one of the original members of the X-Men." He leans forward, looks around as though he's telling a secret, and stage whispers "They call me Beast." Then standing up straight again, he laughs. "Most of what the X-Men are and do are secret, and I can't tell you those things. We don't exclude non-mutants, so much as when you're dealing with killer robots, you need some sort of extra powers to keep up. If, say, Superman wanted to work with the X-Men, I'm sure we'd make it happen."

Supergirl has posed:
"Is that on the record, or off the record, Dr. McCoy?" asks Kara, leaning forward just a bit at the stage whisper.

"Because this whole thing is just for my school project, and I don't want to really drop a bombshell like that on the Riverdale Community College!" she enthuses, grinning wider. "But it's good to hear you say that about Superman. Even if his focus is... super broad, it seems, being involved with the Justice League. What /are/ your opinions on the Justice League, after all?"

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy nods "It's on the record, Ms. Danvers. I've been fortunate enough to do a lot with my talents, and to be recognized for it." He then starts bragging about his accomplishments, counting them off on his thick fingers. "Two PhDs, one in in Biochemistry and in Biophysics. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the MacArthur Grant. I'm fortunate enough to be able to be an example of what mutants can do as productive members of society. So I'm open with my alias, these days." Re-filling his water, he continues. "I think the Justice League has done, and has the power to continue to do, much good for the world."

Supergirl has posed:
A nod of her head at what he says, the bespectacled Danvers bringing up her pen to dart over the page, taking note after note. A grin on her lips. "Which of those awards do you consider the most... well, while valuable isn't the best word, but which one of those awards has the most meaning to you, and why?" asks Kara, blonde hair sliding over her shoulders as she tilts her head just so to one side.

"And not to get away from the main thesis of your talk - which terrorist group do you feel has the most danger held for current American society - or the world?"

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy smiles. "The scientific awards are gratifying, as, well, after my mutation led to ostracism, my athletic ambitions were instantly over. I've put much more time into science since high school. But the civil award, from the President of the United States, means the most to me. And I wear it every chance I get." Chucking his twice-used cup into the bin, he nods. "I think the biggest threat is the formation of small splinter groups of the Friends of Humanity. They might go after mutants, go after folks like Superman and the Justice League, you name it."

Supergirl has posed:
A nod of her head, and Kara gives a smile. "I think that's the major questions I meant to ask you, Dr. McCoy, and I really appreciate your time in answering them - tell me, is there anything that you'd like me to pass along to the up and coming class of bright young minds at my school?" she asks, tilting her head just so to the side.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy folds his hands together, taking a moment to gather himself. These are the questions he lives for. "Never hold back from trying, because you don't think you have the talent. Hard work matters more." Nodding. "Walk with me to lunch, if you have the time? How are you enjoying journalism?"

Supergirl has posed:
A swish and swoop of her pen, and Kara immortalizes that quote in her school notebook. Clicking her pen off, Kara tucks it away - with that notebook, into her purse. "I'm actually enrolled in an intensive biosciences program up there - I take journalism as kinda a..." she considers this, lifting her chin as she purses her lips. "Steam valve? It's fun. And not at all stressful. Sciences can be that, at times," she says.

Bringing up her hand to adjust her glasses on her face, she looks back to him. "What made you..." A pause. "Sorry. Still in interviewing mode," Kara says with a laugh. "But I am curious as to why you got into sciences in the first place."

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy chuckles. "Biosciences! Yes, we must have lunch, my treat Kara." The interview is over after all. "Great pizza place just across the street here. And I just have a knack for it. I had intended to be a professional football player. But that wasn't going to happen. So I had to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. And well, that I'm a mutant, gave me an interest. Which is how I ended up with a Nobel for studying the self-mutagenic properties of X-Recombinant-DNA. Or, the X Gene."

Supergirl has posed:
"Oof," says Kara, again with a laugh. "Well, I don't think I'll be quite at your level, Dr. McCoy, but I hope I can keep up with it, at least. And I always like pizza," she says, smiling ever brighter.

"So you knew that you were a mutant when you decided to start studying the sciences. How far did you get in the whole professional football field?" she asks. A beat. "If I can ask, that is," she says, adjusting the strap of her purse over her shoulder.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy holds the door open to let her out, before leading the way across the street. "Of course. It was high school. I was already a top prospect for top schools in the SEC. The scouts would call me a freak of nature, and they meant that endearingly. Until suddenly they didn't." He laughs. "So what led you into Biology?"

Supergirl has posed:
A smile for the door being held open. "If I'm being honest - mostly my parents," says Kara.

Brushing her long blonde hair over her shoulder, she looks one way, then the other, before crossing the street, the mild-mannered Kara Danvers vaguely anxious, after all. "They're both scientists at STAR. I'm not sure what I want to be when I grow up, though, to be truthful," she says, half-jokingly. "So I'm broadening my mind. With a journalism class!" she says. "I uh. Have family in the journalism business, over in Metropolis."

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy grabs the door at the pizza place as well, and winks. "Really, I was just in Metropolis. I turned purple there. Hoefully that's not common." Once inside, he orders a while pie, "Pepperoni and Sausage fine? He checks before going on. "STAR. Good people there. Can be dry, but I think if you get in with the right group, you can work with the Justice League. If that would interest you." He pauses. "Designing a new cape for Superman?"

Supergirl has posed:
"I'm sorry?" Kara asks at the last thing said. "What's that about Superman's cape?" she considers. "But yes - Pepperoni and Sausage is fine," she says, stepping into the pizza place with not too long past Henry. "I haven't ever lived in Metropolis, so you might know if there's purple people running around better than I would," she says to the Beast.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy gets a coke for each of them, filling his own with cherry coke, and letting her choose for herself. "I mean, if you worked at STAR, you could help design a new cape for Superman. They do work on super equipment. Perhaps apply his unique biological needs into designing it." As his coke fills, he sings softly "One eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater..."

Supergirl has posed:
Kara does go for the cherry coke as well, lingering until after Hank had finished filling his. "I guess that might be part of their research. I know..." she lowers her voice, "I know they worked with him many times before," she whispers. "But uhm. I personally haven't been on any STAR projects for him," she says. A beat. "Have you helped... you know, Superman?" she says, making an awkward, broad gesture.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy shakes his head as he pulls out a chair for Kara before sitting himself. "I have not met any of the Supermen and women. As I said, they'd be great allies to have. But they have their own enemies to worry about. If that guy at LexCorp decides mutants are as bad as aliens, then maybe we'll have to talk."
