Blackbird 101
Date of Scene: 16 July 2019
Location: Danger Room
Synopsis: Hank McCoy runs a sim of the Blackbird, teaching Jubilee and Pixie how to fly it on autopilot.
Cast of Characters: Beast, Pixie, Jubilee

Beast has posed:
The Danger room is setup for an X-Men lecture this afternoon. Stepping insdie is like stepping into the cockpit of the Blackbird, with the complete array of controls. Dr. McCoy, in a white coat, with hawaiian shirt and shorts underneath, sits in the pilot's seat, with some lab goggles pulled up over his forehead. To his side is a box of leftover Nathan's Famous hot dog nuggets.

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn arrives early for the lecture. As a brand new member of Xmen, she's only too eager to prove herself. Of course that means she can't miss any training sessions, and she's only too eager to learn more about the Blackbird. This should be fuun. Dressed in her x-uniform, she peers over McCoy's shoulder. "So! What's today's lesson, Dr. McCoy?" she asks brightly.

Jubilee has posed:
Jubilee is in a uniform. Of sorts. It's black and form-fitting, and it has a...yellow rain jacket with gears for toggles overtop. She has a pair of brass goggles settled atop her head, and a twisted updo held in place by a pair of red chopsticks. She was leaning on the table, talking to Hank when Megan walked in. "Ohh hi!" She straightens up quickly.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy spins in the chair to face the arrivals. "Jub, Megan, good to see you. Megan, have a seat in the copilot's position here, next to me. Jub you can take the navigator behind me. You've had this lecture before I think." He points to each seat. "Today I'm going to teach how to operate the Blackbird's autopilot, in an emergency, and other basic steps to take in the event otehrs are incapacitated and you're flying in the air with no pilot.

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn smiles cheerfully at Jubes. Like most of the Xmen, she's only really met her in passing. "Hi, Jubilee!" she nods to McCoy sitting in the copilot's position. She's never flown the Blackbird and probably only been in it once or twice if even that. "Wow..This is soo cool.." she pulls out a pen and notepad, glancing attentively at Henry, ready to take some notes.

Jubilee has posed:
Jubilee nods to Henry and slips into the navigator's seat. She slowly pulls out a red vine from her pack and sticks it into her mouth, sucking on it as she opens a notebook. Just in case. If everyone on the Blackbird is incapacitated and Jubilee ever has to fly it...God help us all.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy laughs, and spins back around in his seat. "It is a lot of fun. And it's a lot smarter than most jets. This is custom built for us. Training to be a safe pilot takes many years. But we don't have time for that. So this is easier to fly than that. But let's say Scott is on the ground, I'm incapacitated here in this seat." He winks to each of the women, and pauses to snack on a hot dog nugget. "then the first thing you do is enable the autopilot. Megan, look to the middle of the console, between us, for the yellow button labeled Auto pilot."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn oohs, peering at her console. "Wow, soo many buttons. Yamean this one?" she points at the big yellow button. "Soo if I press this, the jet can fly itself even if we're like, asleep?" she scratches her head, wondering how safe that would be.

Jubilee has posed:
"Let's hope it never comes to that. But it is safer than trying to fly it yourself, if you're not trained. Kind of a last choice option, that still might save everyone's hides." Jubilee is pretty sure that, in the case of an emergency there is a plan in place to lock her in the bathroom.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy slumps back and plays dead, tongue hanging out. Then he sits up again and laughs. "YEs, this is the last resort." He starts pointing to dials. "The plane is now flying straight, and stable, trying to keep itself in the air until it runs out of fuel. At that point... yeah. You want to get this plane down BEFORE then. So the next thing you do is change the course for home." He points back to Jub with his thumb. "You'll then go to the navigational computer and find the heading to get to base. Grab the helm, and turn it until THIS compass reads the same heading the computer tells you. Turn it gently. Try it. We're now off the coast of Delaware, in the simulation."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn nods to Jubes. "Like, totally. I couldn't imagine flying this thing. Even when I was learning to use my wings for the first time, I had to wear a helmet." she chuckles, turning back to Henry, arching a brow. "Oh no, he's dead! We gotta do something!" she feigns shock, peering at the dials. "Erm, ok, soo the plane is flying straight and then.." oh right, fuel. "Drat, that's no good. she peers at the controls. "Nagigation..Heading for base. Gotit." she peers at the compass thingy, rubbing her head. Soo much information. "the helm, right!" she grabs the helm and attempts to turn the steering wheel, peering at the smi on the screen, presumably, "Ooh, nice!"

Jubilee has posed:
"And if those things fail, I will be the one screaming 'WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!' in the bathroom. Make sure you give me a parachute and let me out before you evacuate." Jubilee grins, tilting her chair back and resting her knees against her desk. "Or don't, if everyone takes a vote to let me go down with the ship."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn grins and nods at Jubes, "Geez, can you imagine if Dr. McCoy weren't here and we were the only people awake on the plane? I mean.." she writes down more notes, "If I forget my notebook or something, we're dooomed." her wings flitter a bit though and she smirks, "Of course, I could always..Y'know..." she glances out the exit door. "Aaah, waiit, looks like, ummm...Ehehe, the plane's tilting. Ok, you take copilot. Let's land this thing!"

Jubilee has posed:
"We aren't qualified to land this thing. That is what the training classes are for. We are just redirecting ourselves to home base. If you land right now, we smash a bunch of innocent Delawareans," Jubilee observes, looking out the window. "We're tilting because we're coming about."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn hmms, "I know that.." she makes a face, "Okaay, so we need to follow the coordinates on the navigation computer.." she follows what's on the screen and accordingly types in the appropriate directions into the computer. "Okay, that should work..We just have to um..Pedal to the medal I guess, before the fuel runs out. Looks like we have what, 30 minutes? I hope that's enough time.." she bites her lip, trying to make the calculations.

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy opens one eye, and makes mental notes as he listens to the back and forth

Jubilee has posed:
"The plane knows what it's doin', just relax. See there? Fuel calculations say we have plenty to get back. Just breathe. They aren't gonna put anything on you that you aren't trained for, especially not in a training class. So it's time to break out the lil bags of peanuts and cans of ginger ale," Jubilee replies with a grin.

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn smiles warily, "Oh. That's good, right? Alright.." she relaxes as she watches the landscape on the sim screen zoom by. "Well, I guess you're right. We have what..20 minutes to get back to base? I just hope we don't run into a storm or like..Magneto or something. Can you imagine?" but they'd never toss something like that on them, right?

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy discreetly pulls out his phone, in a way a corpse never could. He's tapping down notes very gently with his thumbs.

Jubilee has posed:
"I have a special weapon in case I ever run into Magneto." Jubilee stands up and starts sliding a hand into her pocket. The pants are tight, so it takes a moment, but she finally fishes out what she was looking for, and holds out her hand to show Megan. "Werther's Originals. They lack the fuzz of Grandma TicTacs, but they have all the integrity, even so. A handful of these babies will distract the old man till we can devise a plan to escape or conquer."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn blinks sloowly at Jubes. "Waaait a minute. You're gonna tempt Magneto with...Candy? The heck?" she scratches her head, glancing away from the controls for a moment. "Oh by the way, soo once we get to the right spot at the base, who's gonna land this thing again?"

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy has his eyes closed, but uses his outstanding hearing to reach out and swipe a Werther's Original, unwrapping it and popping it in his mouth. "Once you're close," he then says, tucking the candy in his cheek," a red flashing light will alert you beneath the Autopilot. "That's the auto-parking feature. Hit it once it lights up, and you will be brought underground."

Jubilee has posed:
Jubilee throws her hands in the air. "Success! And then we can hit the showers. Or the pool. Whatever. And enjoy the rest of our day. Or night. It's pretty simple, really."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn hmms, "Right..Okay, we're like..10 minutes away? Fuel looks good, altitude and all that stuff looks good.." actually she has noo idea what all those other controls mean as they were specifically being taught on the autopilot and autoparking feature. "Oh really? that' lush, I mean, I thought most planes you can put on auto pilot, but you have to land them yourself.." she peers at the light below autopilot, but it wont be lighting up for a bit longer..

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy nods and slowly sits up. "And that's really it. i'd like to see you to go through the motions, for practice. Because having done it before will be good, if you ever have to do it for real. But well done. You've done the hard part."

Jubilee has posed:
"And now...it's pool time." Jubilee grins as she hops up out of her seat and grins at Henry. "Thank you ever-so much for teaching us the ways of the Autopilot. You are a paragon of knowledge and stuff."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn beams and jumps out of her seat. "Hooray! We saved the jet! Soo when do we get to fly it for real?" she smiles impishly, pink wings fluttering more quickly in excited anticipation.
