Lanterns... in Space... well, a Space Station
Date of Scene: 13 August 2019
Location: Lvl. 3 (Security, Mackenzie King Station)
Synopsis: Carol and Kinsey get to know each other on the Mackenzie Station.
Cast of Characters: Star Sapphire, Kinsey MacKenna

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire has decided to visit the new Blue Lantern that's in the system. She's curious as she approaches the station. Keeping a respectful distance, she sends a message requesting boarding to see the new Lantern, identifiying herself as Star Sapphire.

Kinsey MacKenna has posed:
On board the station, perimeter alarms go off, silently blinking on manned consoles. One Tom Jamieson catches the blinking, and responds to the call:

"Good evening, Violet Lantern, please advance to docking bay 3 where we'll have a security team waiting. Just a routine check, and we'll have you on board proper in no time. We'll inform Dr. Kinsey that you're on board."

Which is exactly what security does, interrupting Kinsey's supper break - though at this hour it's more a cup of cold tea washing down half a sandwich than a proper supper. She'd let paperwork grab her attention and hadn't surfaced until wall past decent hours for raiding the kitchen. Not that the kitchen was limited to earth standard hours with rotating shifts of staff, but still, Kinsey always felt just a little guilty about making a meal past bedtime, even if she wouldn't see her bed for several hours to come.

Even less likely now that she was being called to security, over, she was told, a Lantern visit. Which makes her chuckle and harken to 'if you build it, they will come' - only this was more like, if you wear it, they will come.

"On my way," she tells security. And, indeed, Star's wait won't be too very long before Kinsey shows up.

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire sighs softly at the thought of 'security'. Whatever. Not the first time - her 'day job' has high security. But when you're in Bruce Wayne's or Tony Stark's league money-wise, it's a necessity. She heads towards the docking bay and floats inside, landing. Her life-support aura is still fully up, for the dokcing back, doors open, are exposed to vacuum. She stands there waiting for them to get to her, patient.

Kinsey MacKenna has posed:
The seals at the docking bay are a smoothly co-ordinated effort. No sooner is she 'on' the station than the field behind her closes, and the system cycles through, allowing the field between herself and the station proper to be lowered.

Of course there is security there. A pair of them, male and female, who offer to escort her to wait for Dr. MacKenna. Of course they're pretty much for show, because, let's face it, Lantern! However, it is their job, and they'd be remiss for not doing it.

Kinsey isn't too much longer, stepping into security at the docking bays and looking about to see why she's been summoned, even as Kibou fills her in on details, leaving a smile hovering on her lips as she draws nearer to her guest. "Ah, welcome aboard the MacKenzie King Station, Violet Lantern. We don't see many of yours this way. Is there a name you'd prefer to go by, and how might we help you today?"

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire just follows the guards, keeping her aura up, but lowering it to minimal once the atmosphere refilled. She smiles. "I go by Star Sapphire. Yes I know, it's the name of the Corps - but I was the first to have this title, before the Corps, and I keep it." She then moves to sit down. "And you, Blue Lantern? Do you have a preferred name?"

Kinsey MacKenna has posed:
Kinsey laughs softly, "I guess I stopped being a secret some time ago, didn't I?" Not that she's been a Lantern for so very long. "By the time I knew I could keep it a secret and had any idea how, well, everyone on station had figured it out. It's likely simpler this way."

She considers the other, and gives a nod, "Star Sapphire it is, then. And you can call me Kinsey. I'm afraid it's really Brother Walker who insists upon calling me Sister Kinsey." And even that had taken a bit of an effort, the other seeming to enjoy formality to a degree many we less comfortable with.

Not that Kinsey was uncomfortable with formality; it just seemed to her easier to ply her trade, so to speak, without certain labels. Other than when she needed that extra ooomph, and then she was merely Blue Lantern, or Sister Kinsey of the Blue Lantern core -- much like mothers would call their children from back stoops using their full names, only turned upon perpetrators.

"I was just enjoying some tea in the mess, if you'd like to join me? I can put a fresh pot on."

Or some can be brought. She's easy like that.

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire nods. "Saint Walker is quite an interesting person. I would love to meet him again - I only saw him like once." She hmmmms softly. "You can just call me Star. I do believe strongly in keeping my 'day job' separate from this. It's... complicated." She smiles softly. "I just wante to meet the new Lantern in town. And some tea would be lovely, thanks."

Kinsey MacKenna has posed:
"Well, you'll note, they called for Dr. MacKenna. Which is my day job. However, of late it seems that all our visitors are on account of my other job." She smiles as she says it. "A lot of curiousity. I guess when there aren't so many of us, and someone new enters the stage, everyone wants to meet them."

She gets up and calls over a security personel, asking them to send for someone to bring tea, and cookies.

After, she returns to sit with her guest.

"You'll have to forgive me if I don't know your day job. Mine, however, since we're sharing stories, is lead Xenobiologist and Scientist on station. In fact, up to a couple months ago, I was a truly sedate and boring person."

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire nods slowly. "I am... I have a high status on Earth. Which is why I prefer to keep my two lives separate. It'd be just endlessly complicated if people down there knew what my other life was. It's just easier to keep them separate." She smiles as she sees the tea and cookies and gets up to pour a cup of tea. "One lump or two?" she asks, eyebrow raised, doing her best British accent, winking.

Kinsey MacKenna has posed:
"Clear, and black," Kinsey returns easily. Much like she enjoys her coffee. "Ah, Earth. Now, see, I was entirely too busy with my head stuck in my studies to follow most relevant news. I truly wasn't kidding when I said I would have been considered very boring."

She thanks Star for her tea, and holds the cup, one hand at the handle, the other cupping it with the palm of her left hand, where, yes, her ring is very visible should you know what you are looking at. "I honestly thought that science was the most exciting thing that I could possibly consider. I remember losing myself in equations, and then in genetics. I came to Xenobiology late in life, though now I begin to wonder if maybe it wasn't as happenstance as I thought. But you, high status?"

She smiles at Star over her teacup. "Business, or Entertainment celebrity?"

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire smiles faintly. "Business. I'd rather not say more." She nods slowly. "Xenobiology? That's a tough subject - well - not as tought as it used to be with all sorts of alien species around here. Kryptonians are the flashiest with their godlike powers, but there's so many. Hard to tell sometimes if someone who looks unusual is an alien or a mutant sometimes." She hasn't scanned you. No reason to.

Kinsey MacKenna has posed:
"Well, it got me an interview for the position here. I'd had thoughts of perhaps pursuing virus technology - you know, applied genetic engineering? I didn't actually imagine I'd be putting it to such intimate use as this."

A gentle wave of her left hand. "Funny things happen."

There's a knowing little nod about who is or isn't alien, but she doesn't say anything. Kinsey is barely at accepting it herself, and the circle of those who know it rather small. Then again, when would it ever be necessary for the circle to be large? Especially given what her heritage is.

Kree were not exactly the most.. congenial of sorts.

"I met Superman. I have to say he wasn't at all like I expected. Very Midwesten charm."

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire nods. "Yeah - I've crossed paths once. He is very charming. If he wanted, he could be the ruler of this world and few could stop him. Instead, he is content being a hero. Very admirable in all respects." She nods slowly. "I was trying to get into the Justice League but... I don't think they want me. There is some... hsitory of past indiscretions, even though they weren't all my fault."

Kinsey MacKenna has posed:
"Ah, yes. Well, I suppose that they have standards they must uphold." She does smile at Star, then, offering, "Of course you can continue to prove to them that you are worth their concern. My mother always said that nothing ever came of not trying." She shrugs. "At the very least, there is nothing to be lost living a life they'd be proud of including as one of their own. I have no doubt that great things are in store for you, regardless of your past."

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire sighs softly. "Yeah - but since I've started my quest - I've met with many of the League, but Superman's just so _busy_. It's hard to make time to connect with him." She shrugs. "Batman wasn't very impressed when I turned his Bat-Signal violet to call him. I think I impressed Aquaman - but I know how to play the royal game. Being a princess does have its perks."

Kinsey MacKenna has posed:
Kinsey chuckles. "I wonder if you were why Batman was so curious about my own ring. He's a gruff little sort, isn't he?"

Her tea is sipped.

"I don't know. I don't think Superman is the sort you connect with that way. Not if you're trying to impress him. He's much more than that, I think. Very much a man who sees past the glamor and to the heart of what's beyond it. And, as you say, terribly busy."

She smiles over antoher sip of her tea. "I've not met Aquaman, to be honest. And you're talking to a girl from the projects. I can't even begin to imagine the life of a Princess. I think it would be very restritive. Mind you, a little of your money wouldn't go amiss."

Star Sapphire has posed:
Star Sapphire sighs softly. "Being a princess or a CEO is... about the same. A lot of responsibility - but most of your power is based on what others do for you. It's a strange oxymoron. But it's the life... lives... I have, so I'm playing the hand I've been dealt." She decides not to comment on the money part.

Kinsey MacKenna has posed:
"I imagine so," Kinsey agrees. "And now that you've found the place, it would be lovely if you dropped in again. Running the station is about what I do now. And you caught me on my way to settle in for the evening. But this was lovely."
