Training makes perfect
Date of Scene: 18 August 2019
Location: Gymnasium, Watchtower
Synopsis: J'onn and Powergirl discuss a bit of phylosophy while training.
Cast of Characters: Power Girl, Martian Manhunter

Power Girl has posed:
The Watchtower's gymnasium, one of the few places that Kara Zor-L could cut loose a little. It wasn't exactly common to see the blonde woman in a gym planet-side for the risk of breaching her cover. At the moment however, the woman herself was working at the field-enhanced weights, lifting the insanely magnified burden above her with an exhale of effort and a smile on her face.

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn doesn't train very often in the traditional sense. He spars, trains his reflexes and his speed, but considering his muscles are not exactly real muscles or, more precisely, he can shape them as he wants, the intricacies of what is physical training escape his comprehension. Then again, being shapeshifted often into a human, and wanting to try all of the relevant aspects of human life, he thought that training might as well be one of those things to try!
So it is that the martian enters the gymnasium, currently shapeshifted into an ebony skinned athletic human wearing just a training suit. "greetings!" he speaks, as soon as his eyes spot the image of Powergirl training, and then his steps lead him to a nearby bench, on which he lies down, placing his hands on a bar floating above his head.

Power Girl has posed:
Truth be told, Power Girl didn't have any idea if this was going to make her stronger, or even if there was a means to do so. Whenever she'd watched Kal? Her cousin had always seemed as strong as he needed to be, could she say the same about herself? Ironically enough, it was more a case of enjoying the mental side of the physical training where she didn't have to be quite so careful about controlling what she could do ever moment of every day.

The arrival of another actually had her pausing for a moment, bending her knees a little under the distracted strain before she straightened up once more. "J'onn," she greets, giving a little smile. The man was a shapeshifter, but it -was- still a safe bet that was who she was talking to regardless of form or attire. Even she herself wasn't in her noraml uniform, instead having swapped out for rather 'normal' looking active wear pants and a tank top.

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn turns slightly to smile at power girl, then a bit of telekinesis is what he uses to turn the dial on the control panel of his training machine, setting the initial weight to a respectable, 80 tons. He makes sure to shift his muscular structure so to be able to lift that much weight, and indeed as the metal bar starts to drop on him, he stops it, starting to lift it up. "how is your day so far?" he asks, conversationally, as he slowly exhales while lifting the weight again, and then a third time.

Power Girl has posed:
"Can't complain," the blonde answers with a little grunt of effort, shifting her own weight for a moment before she finally presses it upwards and out of the field, giving her a moment to tap the deactivation and end the routine without sending something impossibly heavy slamming into the floor. 'Dusting' off her hands together she exhales a longer breath before making to lean against the wall for a moment and watch the martian work. "Just...kinda quiet really. Suppose that's a blessing."

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn nods slightly, telekinetically turning the dial to increase the weight up to 100 tons, his eyes closed in concentration. Regularly, that much weight is not really that much for him, an effortless task to lift them. But that's because he uses a mix of telekinesis and strength, whilst right now he is trying not to use telekinesis at all. "I won't complain, to be honest, if I don't ear blaring alarms and the computer announcing an impending attack upon us or the planet below." he comments, lifting the weight again, then another time, and finally hitting the stop button again telekinetically to stop the machine. Sitting up, his legs swinging off the bench, he stretches his back a bit before slowly standing up.

Power Girl has posed:
"I think," Karen speaks as she moves to another bench, albeit herself only making to sit down rather than continue her workout, "that even with as many of us as there are. If we tried to intervene with every single thing, every street mugging and bar brawl, we might never rest...and we'd be bordering on a police state I suppose."

A shake of her head, the woman glances towards the doorway in thought of the planet below. "Do you ever wonder what about what might have happened? If a martian with worse intentions and ideals had come to us instead of you? Tangling with Zod and his like, how different this world would have been if it hadn't been superman that arrived here."

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn moves to sit on a bench in front of Karen, setting his hands on his own knees "we could intervene, sometimes. But then, there are others down there, other, heroes, that deal with muggings, robberies and similar threats to humanity. Maybe, though, being so worried with protecting them from what those heroes can't deal with, to avoid that something bigger fell on Earth, we stopped worrying, a bit, about the smaller things humans have to deal with on a daily basis." he pauses, closing his eyes in a thoughtful expression "I, one of my identities, is a police officer. I see crimes, I see humans dealing with them, and I would lie if I told I don't want to intervene sometimes to stop them from happening. But then, for one you stop, two rise, somehow, and sometimes I think humans are indeed a bit hopeless, they'll destroy themselves if someone else doesn't manage to do that"
Opening his eyes again, J'onn shakes his head "well not really, I mean there's really no reason to think about what it could've been in my mind, since it is nothing I can control. Probably the world would've been worse if superman didn't come, if the last martian was a bloodthirsty criminal, but since that wasn't the case, why worrying about it?"

Power Girl has posed:
"Humans are...something. But there's good as much as bad. Maybe -more- good than bad, which is probably why we do what we do. I can't say that Kryptonians were perfect, but humans have plenty of flaws....and yet, they still do amazing things. Plus, they invented icecream, pizza..." she trails off with a little laugh before tilting her head to the side.

"I suppose thats the problem with coming from another 'universe' like I did," Karen muses, shrugging her shoulders. "It gets you thinking about what other ones might be. What other different versions of some people are out there."

Martian Manhunter has posed:
"ah, I agree, icecream and pizza are great. Oreos are better though!" J'onn exclaims, smiling brightly at the thought. "as for humans, that is true I guess. There are good, evil ones, and probably the good ones are more in numbers. But then there are those who choose the path of non action, some calling it neutrality, and, well." he shrugs "I know their minds, some have justifiable reasons not to act, some don't though." he adds.
"maybe, in another universe, Mars is still a great civilization, maybe in another universe, I am no longer alive but every other martian is. I think of that, sometimes, then though I remind myself that this is the universe I live in, and so, this is the universe I should worry about."

Power Girl has posed:
"Seems a lot more simple when you put it like that," Karen muses, pulling one knee up to rest against her while they speak and resting her chin atop it. "Worrying about the here and the now..." she shakes her head, giving a little laugh and then glancing back towards the shifted Martian. "I'm sorry to have been bothering you with phylosophical points when you're trying to work out. You must get enough of people's musings just being the resident telepath."

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn chuckles slightly, grabbing one of the weight and lifting it with his mind, then bouncing up and down "I can work out and talk at the same time!" he exclaims, smiling at the woman "plus, talking is always a good thing, the sharing of ideas, thoughts, and opinions, is growing and discovering new things not only about others, but about oneself as well. So!" he grins "do not ever be sorry about sharing your ideas with me, I will always be glad to ear them and provide my own" he sets the weight down, still smiling. "as for the worrying about now being simple, well, it is just a matter of where you want to put your mental energies. You can live in the present, learning from the past to make your future better, and while it is generally good to plan for the future, doing the, what if, applied to tomorrow, it is not very useful, objectively, to do it about the yesterday. I can say, what if tomorrow I meet this person? Then I can say this this and that, and if I don't? Then I can do those things. But if I say, what if yesterday instead of talking with Karen I talked with Batman? Maybe I would've learned something in place of something else, but then again, what would change?" he pauses, shrugging "nothing, because I still talked with you, and can't change my past."

Power Girl has posed:
"That is...a good point...and one more thought out than I was expecting." There's a shake of the blonde's head and she shrugs her shoulders while making to stand. "I can't promise not to get caught up in the same thoughts now and then, but you do make sense." Moving towards the man, she reaches out a hand to pat on his shoulder and gives a light squeeze. "Either way, I do appreciate you listening."

Martian Manhunter has posed:
J'onn chuckles his head, shifting his face into a clearly fake expression of surprised pain "you mean you wern't expecting me to form these thoughts? Poor me, what else could I've done in all those centuries if not making my own phylosophy!" he smiles then, lifting his own left hand to lightly pat on the hand Power girl is using to give his shoulder a light squeeze "you're welcome, I'm always here, for you all." he simply replies, still smiling.
