The Elusive Dr. Pym
Date of Scene: 20 August 2019
Location: Backyard, Avengers Mansion
Synopsis: Josh meets Dr. Pym, a difficult patient.
Cast of Characters: Ant-Man (Pym), Elixir

Ant-Man (Pym) has posed:
The medical staff for the Avengers has a certain number of things that they are actively doing. They have files on all of the Avengers, and current, 'high priority' items. Others, like maybe Stark, are probably in a nest of security protocols about what's going on, but Pym's isn't.

Pym has overdue checkins, and is flagged with an army of red glaring marks. Why? The doctor is, like many doctors are, a rough patient. He had been in a coma, nearly dead, with how severe his health had deteriorated. As soon as he was mobile, though (and conscious) he has evaded a lot of the additional tests and treatment.

One of the doctors on staff is frustrated enough by it to vent in Josh Foley's hearing: how can they look after heroes if the heroes resist them at every turn?! Does Foley want to give it a shot? If so, he can be her guest.

Dr. Pym has a lab currently standing in the back yard of the Avengers mansion, looking like some kind of mobile bunker or test facility. It has all sorts of 'biohazard' and similar warnings on the door. It probably deserves a 'NOBODY IS WELCOME' sign, but technically it does lack that.

Elixir has posed:
Josh has been at experiments on the genetic manipulation of pea plants with one of the medical technicians for a few days now. They are going well. He has managed to create a range of specific variations by manipulating seeds prior to planting. All part of the slow, methodical experimental work the medical staff have lined up for him in addition to helping with injuries.

When he hears about Dr. Pym needing someone to follow up with him, Josh leaps at the chance. Mostly because Avengers medical is super awesome, but it's a lot of time in the basement labs and he could use a walk. So he happily agrees to go have a look after thumbing through Dr. Pym's chart.

Outside the lab he considers the array of warning signs affixed to the outside and makes an appreciative face. He pushes the door open to come in.

"Dr. Pym?" he calls as he comes in.

Ant-Man (Pym) has posed:
"/Generally,/" Dr. Pym's stern, reprimanding voice comes, clearly and piercingly, "I request that visitors knock. For their health and mine." The scientist is not working, though: in his sea of arranged and organized lab space with the massive counters and equipment, he is to the left wall, on a small beige couch.

"But I am not actively in an experiment, so I suppose it is a good time." Then his eyes narrow a little bit more, from his reclined position on the couch. He'd had one hand up to his forehead, and he eases the fingers down off of his face to study Foley.

"You're new," he states. It's just fact. "Did they send you at me as part of your hazing?" Pym's lips move a little bit, a bare, subtle flex of smile.

Elixir has posed:
Josh steps just inside the door and puts his hands in pockets. He glances around the room curiously.

"Sorry, Dr. Pym. I'm Josh Foley, new hire in Medical," he says, affirming his newness. Josh's jeans and polo shirt are very nice, but not typical medical attire. At least they match his metallic gold skin.

"No hazing, I volunteered for this mission, sir. Wanted out of the labs. I'm here to calm down the doctors in Medical and get you back in shape," Josh explains and runs a hand through his hair. "This place is wild. What are you working on, sir?"

Ant-Man (Pym) has posed:
"That would be classified, until I confirm your claims," Dr. Pym says, but his tone is somewhat teasing. Still, that's a 'no' about sharing immediately. "Medical? Hmh. I suppose I should get up, and prove how healthy I am, so that you leave me alone," he comments. The tease remains, but the choice of words is not. Surly patient, no doubt. The notes on the medical file were possibly mild.

"The doctors in medical are worried? Have them chase Stark around; I'm fine. Following my prescription of eating and staying out of strenuous missions. Besides, I monitor my own physical health, due to my unique qualities," Dr. Pym gives Foley a more focused look. The skin color was never overlooked, but it also isn't brought up: not yet, at any rate.

Elixir has posed:
Josh nods understandingly about the classified information, but continues to glance around curiously.

"They said you missed a bunch of appointments or something. Actually, I don't know why they didn't send me sooner. If there's anything wrong I can have you fixed up in a minute or two," Josh says and brings his attention back to Dr. Pym. "I'm a mutant healer," he explains.

"That's a tissue printer," he notes. "They won't let me play with one yet downstairs. But they've been getting me to practice growing out tissues from samples. Which is way more interesting than doing the Mendel pea plant thing, which I get and I'm learning a lot, but it's really /rigid/ and boring, I don't care about pea plant leaf shapes and stalk heights," Josh says and blinks. He looks abashed when he realizes he was rambling. "Sorry, sir."

Josh puts his hands back in his pockets. "Um, so are you feeling totally okay or do you, like, want me to help you with anything?"

Ant-Man (Pym) has posed:
Pym aloofly smiled, and then watches Josh look around at some equipment. His brow lifts, but he doesn't interrupt, just allows Josh to ramble. "A little bit," Hank agrees, not one to let someone off the hook for a ramble. His voice is realtively kind, though. The proof of not being entirely unaware of what's in the lab may have been a very smart move with Pym.

"We should get you back to your rigid and boring, yet vital, s tudies, then," Pym smirks. "A mutant healer. What's your mode of operation, then? Does the patient lay back and you lay hands?" He really is asking, but there's a note of skepticism.

"I'm not so stubborn as to ignore an offer to repair at a faster rate. I have some unusual properties to my body, though. I'd rather monitor your healing on a test subject before you touch me," he says. Safety first.

Elixir has posed:
Josh nods. "Yeah, whatever you need, sir. Um, all I need is you don't be vapourized and be within like, five feet. Living optional," Josh explains with a shrug.

"So I'm easy. I'll just wait for you to set up some monitoring equipment?"

Ant-Man (Pym) has posed:
"Considering how small I can go, your vaporized requirement isn't a joke," Dr. Pym answers seriously, but finally pushes his hands to the couch to leverage himself to his feet. There's a physical weakness there; he's carrying around the impact of what happened to him despite the months of time passing.

"Sit for a few minutes. I was in the middle of something else," the doctor comments, and strides back through into his workspace. He swings around several monitors that are attached to the ceiling, moving some other things around.

"An ant work for you as a test subject?" Hank's voice floats back over from behind some equipment.

Elixir has posed:
Josh takes a seat as directed and nods. "Sure, that's fine," the young man says. He waits patiently for Dr. Pym, trying not to be rude by watching too intently. His phone buzzes and he checks it, taps out a quick message and sends it, then pockets his phone again.

Ant-Man (Pym) has posed:
The lab has a hyper-organized feel to it. The owner may have a style of OCD, based on the labeling and neat way everything has an exact place. Little wonder why Josh was told to sit down and not muck with things. In addition to that, there's a little show to be had, as the massive tissue-copier panels suddenly appear to just disappear: Hank shrunk them. He approaches the little box they're now reduced to, moves to a cabinet, and puts it away in a sliding tray. A different one is chosen, set out, and replaced; it jarringly leaps to full size: human oriented medical table, equipment clearly oriented to emergency care or surgery.

The lab may be small, but it's 'impossibly' modular. "For the sake of time, we'll use this set," Dr. Pym says, and then brings a different little box over. It does contain an ant - if Josh gets close enough to see. "Missing an antenna," Pym comments. He sets the small clear box on the middle of the 'bed' zone, and slides sideways to a variety of monitoring equipment.

Elixir has posed:
Josh moves over when Dr. Pym lays out of the box. He looks curiously at the insect. "Never done one of these before," he comments. Josh runs a hand through his hair and then puts his hands back in his pockets so he does not thoughtlessly touch anything.

The mutant lights up with a golden aura and looks curiously at the ant. "They have pretty simple brains, huh?" he says. Then the ant glows golden as well. The missing antenna grows back quite quickly. The ant feels no pain or distress, but does suddenly have the sensory input from its missing member.

Ant-Man (Pym) has posed:
"Interesting," Dr. Pym observes, without much inflection. He stretches one shoulder, and skims through the data quickly, his expert eye moving over the results of it. He gets what he was looking for. The alterations that Pym has made to the ant weren't impacted by the process.

"Fine. I have various muscular deterioration from the forced starvation I was subjected to," Dr. Pym says. He moves the ant out of the way, resets his system. He draws off his coat, and sits on the table without emotion either way. He does rake one hand back through blonde hair on the side, an expression of mild annoyance, but otherwise he's patient.

A review of Pym physically will agree with the issues: his body just hasn't recovered well from the extreme stress of the stasis pod he'd been left in, much like a very slow recovery from a terrible illness.

Elixir has posed:
"Okay. You'll just feel warm and maybe relaxed, but you'll feel fine after," Josh says. "Josh not so sore and tired."

The process repeats itself only more slowly. Josh takes a bit more time in the sensing and then goes more slowly in the healing.

When the golden aura surrounds Dr. Pym, he feels a liquid warmth spread throughout him. It is accompanied by a simple, deep feeling of being well that seems to come up right out of his bones.

And then it melts away with aura. Dr. Pym's body is less tired, no longer weak or sore. He does not feel suddenly rejuvenated or like a million dollars; just feels the way he should in his body.

"Whatever happened to you, your body wasn't taken care of very well," Josh observes. He looks a little tired now but otherwise unchanged. "You'll probably be hungry a lot today and tomorrow, sir. Just go with, your body'll want the energy. How do you check out?" Josh asks with a gesture to Dr. Pym's monitoring equipment.

Ant-Man (Pym) has posed:
Dr. Pym reaches out and rotates the whole arm of the medical bay's data screen around to face him. In that moment it should be very clear that he often works on himself. Dangerously clear, even: a doctor that attempts to treat himself, usually.

"I can see what brought you to the Avenger's staff," Dr. Pym says. That's his version of a compliment. He skims some more, and looks over it at Josh with a thoughtful, penetrative stare. But a smile appears, as if he failed to suppress it.

"You can report that you were able to assist on me," Dr. Pym grants. "I didn't chase you out with a pitchfork."

He surveys the items longer. "/You/ need to rest, too, I can see. Don't go too far with your healing either, Mr. Foley," teases Pym. Pym wasn't just scanning himself.

Elixir has posed:
Josh smiles and nods. "Yessir, I'll let them know and be careful. Sorry to interrupt your work, hopefully it'll be easier now."

With that the young mutant makes his way carefully out of the lab and back to medical to report simply that Dr. Pym is fine now.
