Quiet night...
Date of Scene: 25 August 2019
Location: Breakstone Lake - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Kaydin and Shannon enjoy the quiet summer evening by the lake, with a snack of mac 'n cheese. They discuss life, their mutual hero, and become fast friends.
Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Kaydin LeGraize

Nightingale has posed:
It's early evening and the sun is just going down. Crickets are chirping, peep frogs are singing their high-pitched croaking song somewhere in the distance, and the whirring of cicadas is just dying down as their creators rest from the day's heat. It seems idyllic and serene, as if nothing could disturb the stillness.

Wrong! From out of the sky, Shannon comes diving down, laughing and whooping as she revels in the joy of flight. For a few moments, it looks as if she might hit the water, but at the last possible second, she snaps her wings outwards to go skimming the surface of the lake, and swoops upwards again.

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"Well looks like someone is having fun." Kaydin says as he watches the woman fly about the place. He zooms out and comes back with a bowl of macaroni and cheese, home made like the stuff she made before. He watches and offers her a bowl full.

Nightingale has posed:
It takes Shannon a few seconds to slow down her ascent as she hears Kaydin, to change course and backwing to a landing near him on shore. She cracks a smile as she sees the stuff he made, the smell of it reaching her and making her dab at the corners of her mouth. "Yeah, I am actually. Guess that's one thing I've picked up from Kurt, having fun with your abilities." She gratefully accepts the bowl from him, plopping down on the ground cross-legged to dig in. "You want some of this, too?"

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"I am going to have some of course." Kaydin says as he smirks at her. He begins to dig into his own bowl and he smiles at her. "I can run anywhere on the planet. I can circle the globe in about thirty minutes or so, and thats not my top speed." He says as he watches her.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon can't quite keep back a little giggle, her pale blue eyes twinkling. "Or to France and back in... what was that, a minute or two?" She smiles, enjoying the gooey, cheesy treat. "Wow. Did you make this? This is seriously good. It's like, the ultimate mac 'n cheese!"

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"My mom made it. She is the cook in the family. She taught me a few recipes." Kaydin says as he smiles at her. "I could take you with me. We could see the eiffel tower together." He says as he watches her. "And have us back in time for class." He says with a grin.

Nightingale has posed:
"Wow. My compliments to your mom, this is incredible! Wonder what recipe she uses?" Shannon blushes a little bit as he mentions seeing the Eiffel Tower, peering over at him curiously. Wait... was he actually serious? There was nothing about him at the moment that said otherwise, but she'd seen so little of him but for their rare meetings, that it was hard to know for sure. "Maybe we could," she muses, glancing back out over the water, and nibbling on the mac 'n cheese. "Or fields of lavendar somewhere in the countryside... or some of the ancient ruins in Athens or Delphi..." She smiles a little, gone a bit shy for a moment. "Where would you go, if you could pick anywhere?"

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"If you want my personal opinion, I was happy back on the reservation. Mom said I should see the world, but I just dont think visiting something will inspire me greater. Still it could." Kaydin says as he shrugs as he eats. "I try and help people."

Nightingale has posed:
"It could. But where you're happy counts, too." Shannon twirls her fork in the bowl a little bit, seeming to think this over. "Visiting something -can- inspire you. When I shadowed Josh on a trip to Salem Center Hospital not long after I got here, there was this really cute little girl there in the lobby. She just ran right up to me, and asked if she could have wings, too." She smiles warmly at the thought, looking out over the water. "It made me want to help people even more, and find some way to show them they don't always have to be afraid of mutants, that we've got more in common than we have different."

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"Humanity fears that which is different. My people lost our tribal lands because we tried to work with the government. As much as I enjoy my friends, sometimes I think magneto is right...They will try and wipe us out unless we can strike first." He says calmly.

Nightingale has posed:
"I wish I knew for sure what to think on that," she murmurs softly. "Things aren't always so black-and-white, there's a whole lot of gray in between." She cups the bowl between her hands, letting the contents warm her palms, sighing a little bit; half with contentment born of simple pleasures, and half with worry, an odd juxtaposition of emotions. "I guess we're lucky to have the time we have here, to at least enjoy our gifts a little bit."

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"Worrying is a misuse of our imagination." Kaydin says with a smile as he eats. "At any rate I am willing to support Xavier's dream." He says as he watches the woman. "Were you born with those wings? or did they just poof appear when you hit puberty?" He asks curiously.

Nightingale has posed:
"The healing showed up first. It was the summer I turned fourteen. The wings grew in a few months later." Shannon smiles and extends them to their full span, one of them extending across Kaydin's back. "What about you? Were you born with your gift, or did it come in later?"

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"Later. I was struck by lightning and the next thing I knew, everything was super slow." Kaydin says with a smile. "They are impressive. And you are naturally pretty so it is easy to mistake you for an angel." He says with a nervous tone.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, blushing profusely at the compliment. However, she does smile, drawing in her wings close to her body, and ducking her head. "Thank you. But I'm not all that pretty." Though she is quick to dress down others for being hard on themselves, it is a failing she is not very quick to address in herself, apparently! "I can't imagine what that's like, everything being so slow."

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"It can be very annoying. Especially when I am waiting for everyone to catch up to me. Thankfully sound has the same speed and thus moves like it always does." Kaydin says as he watches her. "So what do you want to be once you finish school? Be a superhero?" He asks curiously.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shrugs slightly, tilting her head as she considers this. "Part of me wants to heal. Part of me wonders if I actually -could- be a superhero. A huge part of me wonders if I'm even good enough for something like that." She bites her lower lip again, ruffling her wings a little bit. "Every time I catch myself thinking like that, though, I remind myself of someone like Captain Rogers. He was the little guy when he started out. For the Army, he was nowhere near good enough. But that didn't stop him from trying, and doing what was right. So I've got no excuse to -not- try."

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"I have a criminal record for vandalism. I had spraypainted a captain americal mural on our recruiting office wall. Thats when I got struck by lightning." He says as he watches the woman. He then nods. "I dont know what I would do if I actually met him. My grandfather served in world war 2 and vietnam

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon just gets this huge grin on her face now, and laughs softly. "I didn't know, either. Then I literally ran into him in Salem Center, as I was coming out of the music store. Startled the heck out of me, but I just wound up talking to him like you would anyone else. He's really nice... and I had no idea had a common interest in music. Plays guitar, I believe." She rolls her eyes and laughs. "Then I wound up feeling like I got hit by an oncoming freight train when Mr. Stark showed up. He's pretty nice, too, but very intense."

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"Yea I met tony. He does work here at the school. Him and Xavier work together." Kaydin says as he eats. "I want to join the avengers. Though I am not sure how. My ability is to move super fast. No strength, or endurance, or fancy serum or suit." He says with a shrug.

Nightingale has posed:
"And all I've got is flight, and a healing gift that needs a lot of work so it harms me less and helps others more. You'd stand a better chance than I ever would at joining any team." Shannon smiles ruefully, reaching over to gingerly touch Kaydin's hand. "And think of it this way. When Captain Rogers was starting out, all he had was heart. No strength, no serum, nothing like that. But he had heart, and did what was right. So that counts for a lot."

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"Still alot better then running fast." Kaydin says as he finishes his macaroni and cheese. He then smiles at her. "Lets make a promise. No matter what, we stand for each other." He says as he holds a hand out to the girl. "I would gladly support you no matter what."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles and holds out her hand. "Always good to know someone's got your back out there. And hey... don't count running fast as less than a gift. There's a lot of different ways it could be a huge help."

Kaydin LeGraize has posed:
"Well there is an ability I researched I can potentially do but it hurts people when used on organics." Kaydin says as he slowly grips her hand and holds it tightly. not too tight but not too loose either. He then lets go and smiles. "I should head back to my room. See you around." He says with a smile.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles and finishes up her mac 'n cheese, and gets up, offering to take both bowls back to the kitchen for cleaning. "See you around. And please... don't put yourself down. You're more than you give yourself credit for."
