Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Iceman

Nightingale has posed:
It's been a very eventful few days, and there's finally a bit of peace and quiet. Shannon's keeping to herself for a little while, more accustomed to the solitude than company for extended periods of time. At least the task of cleaning up the stables was simple, familiar, and she could always give Brightwind an apple at the end of it. Animals made so much more sense than people at times, she mused to herself. She's in the middle of clearing out one of the stalls of its... debris, filling up a wheelbarrow to dispose of the material where it belongs.

Iceman has posed:
Bobby walks over towards the stalls as it seems he's having to be the adult around here lately. The blonde mutant sighs to himself as he looks for one specific student and this is where he was told he could find her. Once entering the stable, Bobby doesn't shout her name as he normally would, instead he takes a moment to listen and observe, he seeks to find her in a more, quiet manner, so she can save some face.

Moving in the direction of the shovelling sounds and the sounds of work, Bobby clears his throat when he spots the wings he was looking for.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon's caught mid-motion, the shovel halfway between the ground and the wheelbarrow. She tilts her head and smiles a little bit, nodding by way of greeting. She'd seen Bobby in passing in school, and certainly out in the field, but he'd never gone looking for her. Either something had gone very right--or it had gone very wrong. Either way, she had a funny feeling the answer would soon become clear. "Hi..."

Iceman has posed:
Bobby keeps his chin up as he's trying to do this discipline thing he's heard so much about and experienced from Shannon's end countless times. "Shannon, I'm gonna cut to the chase. Your listening skills need to seriously be worked on. Your behavior the other day down in midtown, completely unacceptable. Not only did you ignore people with far more experience than you, you did the exact opposite of what was said on coms." Bobby says, crossing his arms and fighting to keep his stern face engaged. "I know you're new here, but the things we're dealing with, they're life or death situations, and we don't want anyone getting hurt, especially for stupid reasons like not listening." Bobby's seen that before...that guilt doesn't wash away.

Nightingale has posed:
Ouch. It was worse than she thought. The one saving grace was that the dressing-down was private. Thank heavens for small mercies. However, Shannon's wings droop, and her face goes bright red clear to the tips of her ears. Her head bows, and she takes several deep breaths. "I understand. There is no excuse." There's several long moments of silence, broken only by the soft whickering of the few horses still in their stalls. "I've never had to work with a team before this. It's no excuse, though. If you feel it best I remain behind, then that's what has to be." She looks up, her brows furrowed; it's clear that no matter how hard Bobby is on her now, she's likely to be twice as hard on herself. "I don't know what I'm doing out there. It feels like flying blind, but still... is there some way to help?"

Iceman has posed:
"Inexperience is not an acceptable excuse for disobeying direct orders." Bobby says uncrossing his arms. "I've talked with Sam about it already and he tells me he's already signed you up to work with his group of 'new mutants' and I expect you to do what he says during all the training missions without complaint. I will have him report all exercises involving you to me directly. I want you to be better than you were. I don't want you to have to carry the weight of failure and guilt. Until Sam works with you. I don't want you leaving the property without using the buddy system and always check in with an adult before you go." The Iceman says as he keeps fighting his own instincts to offer a hug or a pat on the shoulder or ruffle her hair, he keeps all this in check, this is for her own safety and everyone else's.

Nightingale has posed:
"Trust me, I've already got one major failure on my list already." Shannon's voice is grim. "And that was -with- trying to listen to orders." She digs hard into the debris left behind by the stall's occupant, hurling it into the wheelbarrow. Though her eyes mist over, to her credit, she does not allow the tears to fall. Maybe somehow this would work out for the best. Maybe at least now she'd have some clue what she was doing, and not put others at risk. Her expression is not of anger, but rather guilt, frustration, and the horror of realizing just how close she's come to having her friends -not- come home, because of screwing up.

Iceman has posed:
"You're trying to do good, but intentions aren't what keeps everyone safe." Bobby says with a nod as he gives Shannon a weak smile. "Welcome to the New Mutants, Shannon, I hope you keep getting better." Bobby notes as he turns around and starts to leave the stalls.

Nightingale has posed:
"So do I. T-thank you." The moment she thinks he's not looking, Shannon leans against the wall of the stall, crying quietly. It could have been worse, but it was pretty clear the message was received. But when she turns to ask him something... he's gone. Just like that. Damn. This was going to sting for a long time, but maybe--just maybe--it was for the best.
