Theseus Fallout
Date of Scene: 11 September 2019
Location: Theseus - Attican Beta
Synopsis: Grail shows up and has a less than plesant conversation with the Legion while they are dealing with the fallout of the incident on Theseus.
Cast of Characters: Mon-El, Invisible Kid, Grail

Mon-El has posed:
Lar and the Legion are still on Theseus, doing their best to try to get the natives to trust them enough to let them help. Which isn't going all that well, unfortunately. Well at least the rain of fire from the CME has stopped, and most of the flames have been put out. However, the damage is rather extensive, as expected.

Normally, Lar would have been the one to try talking to the natives and getting them to trust the Legion enough to let them help, but that wasn't going to work out so well given the situation. So Brainiac's been given that job instead. As ridiculous as that sounds, it was kind of the only option. At present, the Daxamite prince is sifting through charred wreckage, searching for anyone who might be in need of rescuing regardless of species.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Like Lyle is a good choice for diplomatic work... well, okay, no, not really.  Instead, the Invisible Kid has self-assigned himself to assisting in looking for and rescuing survivors.  He's much more likely to have a positive impact that way.  Even if leaving Brainy to himself in a diplomatic task is... problematic at best.

Grail has posed:
The sound is fairly familiar to those in the know. The sound of a boomtube opening up. For some it is a terrifying event. Hnoestly, for those who don't know what it is, it can be pretty scary. It's just generally probably not helping this whole trust thing. Either way, it opens up and stepping out of it is a very frustrated Grail. She had been told to come back later and frankly it was damn near a blood bath when that happened. However, she needs information and not death so she is returning. When she does though, she appears out of it with a frown and her red eyes scan around till she spots Mon-El, than she is in front of him with a burst of speed that is not easily conjured.

"You will make time now." She states and glares at him, "To explain to me where this Kal-El is and why that dirt ball that, for some reason, is named basically dirt, is lacking in a Kal-El..."

Mon-El has posed:
Lar, to say the least, hasn't been in the best of moods, having blamed all of this business on himself. Though he is searching in general for injured survivors, there is one person he is feeling particularly guilt-ridden about--that being his brother Del. "This is all my fault, Lyle." he has probably said this or some form of it several times since the fires stopped.

Therefore, when Grail shows up and again demands explanation, he is none too happy. She's mad she couldn't find Kal on Earth, while these people were worried about their race's entire -survival-?! He glares at the woman. "Look, just because YOU couldn't find him there, doesn't mean he isn't there. Or who knows, maybe he went off-world or something." he mutters with a shrug. Of course, it might have helped if she knew his Earth name was Clark Kent. But he wasn't going to tell her that. Because he sure as hell doesn't trust her. Yet.

Invisible Kid has posed:
"This is not your fault," Lyle says, and probably not for the first time.  "Like most other Legionnaires, you've got a family that's... problematic," he finishes more diplomatically than might otherwise be expected.  Your mom is nuts, Brainy's mom is nuts, my dad is nuts, Dirk's dad is nuts... do you really want the whole list?  I bet we'd have to dig into the Academy before we found anyone, Legionnaire or cadet, who had a normal family."  He grins over at Mon-El.  "Face it, having a not-normal family is normal around here."
He doesn't look at Grail, but it's pretty clear when he's addressing her.  "Available time happens when it happens.  And maybe Kal has things to do that involve not being seen.  I guarantee those kinds of things happen."

Grail has posed:
A finger points right at Mon-El, "You sent me there to meet him. You stated he wanted me found. You made it sound as if he knew where Darkseid was." She growls out that last bit and then she looks over at IK and glares. She grips her hand tightly enough to cause her knuckles to crack before she continues, "From what I can tell, the people of Earth are not even aware of a Kal-El amongst them." She looks back at Mon-El, "I feel as if my time has been wasted and I do not care much for wasted time." She shakes her head, "Perhaps it is time I go to Apokolips and see things for myself." She turns and then looks back to Mon-El, "Oh, and your people had better avoid me from here on out." She chuckles.

Mon-El has posed:
"I didn't send you there, -you- said you -wanted- to go there!" Lar retorts. "I don't even know if he knows where Darkseid is, he just mentioned you, that's all." he groans, not really wanting to think about -that- whole problem on top of the problems he's dealing with right now. "Listen, if you're not going to help us out here, then go find something else to do, since you're so -not fond- of wasting your time. Maybe you should do a bit more digging instead of just expecting him to show up in front of you the second you appear out of your boomtube."

He sighs at Lyle. "I know, but none of them have lain waste to entire planets like this either, have they?" He shakes his head, and goes back to moving a half-demolished building. "I just can't help but wonder if I hadn't alienated them so much maybe they would've been more open to listening to me..."

Invisible Kid has posed:
"I don't think my dad has, or Dirk's... I don't want to guess about Brainy's mom.  She might have, she's a Brainiac too.  Closer to the skull ship and shrunken city type than our Brainiac," Lyle remarks with a shrug.
Hey, be a Legionnaire for a couple years, you'll be amazed what you can dismiss with a shrug.
He glances back towards Grail, then gets back to the work of searching for victims.  "If they don't know he's there, he might not be there.  I haven't been on Earth in a couple years, I couldn't tell you who is and isn't active right now, but Kryptonians are pretty zarking hard to miss."

Grail has posed:
Her right eye twitches a little at Mon-El and then her eyes glow slightly, "You presume much." SHe then looks over to IK and nods, "I figured that would be the case but that hardly seems to be it." She growls and turns to walk away from Mon-El and shakes her head, "At the very least I had fun killing Daxamites here but then I hardly knew they were something I'd enjoy killing so I suppose there is that." She chuckles and nods, "Your people are almost a challenge." She says over her shoulder to Mon-El, "Either way, I have no more use for this world."

Mon-El has posed:
Lar sighs. "Whatever, it doesn't matter what they have done or not, the point is that I could have prevented this." He says finally. "That's what makes it my fault, not whether or not someone else's family has done worse or not."

Oh and then Grail has to go and gloat about murdering his people. His eyes blaze dangerously and he clenches his fists, but manages not to lash out at her just yet. "Get. Out. Now. Before you make me do something we'll both -regret-." he says with a clenched jaw.

As Lyle returns to the piles of rubble in search of survivors, he'll pick up on another Daxamite lifesign rather similar to Lar's. It's at the center of a rather large crater and seems to have been smashed down pretty hard into the ground--hard enough to be partially buried.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle remarks very, *very* quietly, knowing perfectly well that Lar's super-hearing can pick it up, "Or something she'll regret and you'll tell yourself you shouldn't enjoy, even if you do."
And then, clearly and loudly, "I have a life sign here.  Too much debris for me to move any time soon."  He glances up at his teammate.  "Daxamite."

Grail has posed:
"Oh, I doubt I'll regret it, Daxamite." She grins, "I love a good fight...got my lineage to thank for that." She grins darkly before shaking her head and then holding up a hand. She punches something in and a burst of sound follows as a new boomtube opens, "Well, this place holds no further interest for me. I will see you at another time." She looks back at Mon-El, "Perhaps then you will be in a worse mood." She chuckles and then starts into the tube.

Mon-El has posed:
"I doubt that level of confidence is exactly appropriate, especially if you think I'll only hit as hard as they did because if that's the case you'd be -terribly- mistaken." Lar points out, still glaring. He resists the urge to snark back at her that she'd best hope that if there -is- a next time, he'll actually be in a -better- mood.

But before he can fall prey to that temptation, he hears Lyle and turns around as his teammate provides the perfect distraction, immediately beginning to scan the area for the aforementioned lifesign.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle glances briefly at Grail, mostly to make sure the departure is actually happening.  This is a distraction the boss doesn't need right now, under the circumstances... and besides, mind games are his job and he doesn't appreciate amateurs poking their noses in.
That taken care of, he's back to business.  "I'd say right about here, three-point-five meters down.  Maybe just a *scootch* to the left of this spot, chief.  Please do me the favor of not asking me to specifically quantify a 'scootch'."  He grins at Lar, whom he suspects could use a lightening of the mood.

Mon-El has posed:
Yeah...Lar really could use a mood-lightening. But given the circumstances, it was probably going to take more than a funny little jab like that. He just sighs and gets to work moving debris and pieces of the ground away until someone who actually rather resembles a slightly older version of himself is revealed, looking rather battered and quite like he's been hit by a piece of a star. Because he kind of did.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Well, he can but try, but certainly Lyle understands why Lar isn't going to be in the best of moods right now, and he's not going to push it.
Instead, he pulls his trusty Omnicom out, scanning for... well, anything, really.  The victim's injuries and state of consciousness, and any other relevant data.
He glances between the unconscious Daxamite and Mon-El a couple times.  "Close kin, chief?" he asks quietly.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar stares at the individual on the ground for a few moments, then sighs heavily. "It's...my brother." he finally admits. "He attacked Grail earlier."

The Omnicom indicates that the subject is unconscious, and has suffered some pretty severe physical trauma. But there is also something else in his systems, something not unlike the XY-4 serum Lar uses. Except someone's messed with it, so it's wreaking all kinds of havoc on his internals.

Invisible Kid has posed:
"Ooh."  Lyle lets the monosyllable hang there a moment.  Mainly because he's not sure where to start.  "You're going to like this even less than I do," he finally says by way of trying to lead into it delicately.  "He's got an anti-lead serum in him... but it's been messed with.  I'm trying to get a fix on what effect it's having, but his vitals are all over the place."
He makes a grumpy noise in the back of his throat.  "It's *almost* the one you use, but not quite.  I'm probably going to need a blood sample and lab time to figure out what the differences are."  He twiddles setting on the Omnicom fussily.  "Except I'd rather know *now*."

Mon-El has posed:
"Grife..." Lar mutters. He -really- doesn't like the sound of this, because he already has an idea of exactly why this happened. "That's probably why he seemed to attack without provocation." he shakes his head, remembering how the serum had had a similar affect on others previously. Others who were at Takron-Galtos now.

Invisible Kid has posed:
"D'you know anything about an altered serum?" Lyle asks, moving a little closer to Lar's brother to get better readings.  "I mean, I know you won't have detailed chemical analysis, but effects, how long it lasts, any known countermeasures...?"  The question ends on an optimistic, but not very optimistic, upward inflection.

Mon-El has posed:
Unfortunately, without a blood specimen for more in-depth analysis, that's all the information the Omnicom can offer. Lar shakes his head. "I have no idea, they must have made it recently. If it's similar to mine, they probably got it from those crazy extremists who came to Earth looking for it a while back."

"I...can't imagine my parents forcing any kind of experiment on him like this, so I can only guess he must have insisted...."

Invisible Kid has posed:
"Or someone offered it to him and didn't tell him it was altered," Lyle says unhappily.  Because he can't rule that possibility out.  "I can't say I'd be *happy* to take him back to the cruiser to see if I can figure out what's wrong and if I can counteract it... but I'd be willing to.  If you think we have the appropriate countermeasures in place, just in case."  Very nearly the last thing Lyle wants tearing through Medical is a rampaging Daxamite.
Never mind what the last thing is.

Mon-El has posed:
"I suppose." Lar admits kneeling to examine his brother a bit more closely, though he doesn't sound that convinced on Lyle's conjecture. "My guess is they tried to 'fix' it, because it drove those other guys insane. But they hadn't quite managed to, when he just went and took it." he sighs. "...Del was always....jealous of me." He says, standing back up. "He never understood why our parents decided they wanted me on the throne eventually instead of him." He folds his arms, staring off across the charred, still-smoking landscape. "Frankly neither did I, but."

Invisible Kid has posed:
"We-e-l-l-l-l," Lyle says slowly, "I'm hoping that if I can flush the bad serum out of him and the good one in, that should go a long way towards calming his mental state... although I don't know that it's going to do anything about jealousy.  If we can keep him below enraged, I *think*," he finishes a little dubiously, "the maximum restraints will keep him out of trouble until we can talk him down further."
He glances down at Del, then back at Lar.  "I hope, anyway.  Unless you have a better idea... or a better set of restraints."

Mon-El has posed:
"Yeah, I guess. But it will take some time to come up with a 'good' one." Lar replies, sighing again and looking tired. "I just hope it'll be enough. I mean, maybe I can talk some sense into him once he's calmed down, if that's even possible." He rubs his forehead. "Ugh."

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle inches a little closer for better readings -- and really, if Del were to wake up right now, he probably couldn't get out of the way fast enough... but hey, Legionnaire.  This is the crazy stuff we do.  "I can try to talk to him first," he offers, "at least if you think it's even remotely possible he'll listen to a Terran.  Or will he hate non-Daxamites more than he's jealous of you?"
He sighs, and pinches the bridge of his nose.  "You have no idea how much I envy Gim and his non-dysfunctional family right now.  Even moreso than usual."

Mon-El has posed:
Lar groans at that question. "Grife, I don't even know!" he exclaims, an air of frustration in his voice. "He definitely won't be pleased to see either of us, that's the only part I'm sure of."

Ugh, let's just get him up to medical. As much as he's dangerous wherever we take him, at least we have countermeasures. These people -don't-, and their lives are in pieces as it is."

Invisible Kid has posed:
"Done and done," Lyle says, already tapping away on his Omnicom, sending orders up to Medical on the Cruiser to prepare an isolated, appropriate, and appropriately reinforced bay.
Before keying the final 'commit' on the orders, he glances up to Mon-El.  "Last chance to change your mind," he offers.
Because, you know, just in case.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar nods in affirmation. "Besides, as crazy as they are, and as much as I wish I had a different one, they are still my family." he sighs, picking up a pebble and chucking it into the sky. It exits the atmosphere, and therefore doesn't come back down.

"I never should have...gotten involved with Kara." There it is again. Yep, not the first time he's said that one either. And yet, every time he sees her, he still can't seem to help himself. What a terrible dilemma.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Without comment, Lyle sends the commands up to the cruiser, and gets out of the way so Lar can extract his brother from the rubble.
He keys another couple commands, and a gate opens behind him; through the glowing field, the Cruiser's medical bay can be seen.  He stops before stepping through.  "If it made her happy, and you happy, yes you should have," he offers, and hops through the gate.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar moves to pull Del out of the ground as soon as the portal opens, taking him through to the other side. "Happy isn't the most important thing in the world. Especially if it doesn't last very long." he responds. "-And- especially if it leads to all kinds of problems. Like burning planets and berserk siblings."

"I...need to think." Lar says once inside, and leaves the new patient on a berth for Lyle and possibly Brainiac later to puzzle over.
