Cast of Characters: Captain Marvel (Danvers), Supergirl

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
It isn't a place many people get see, or if they do it isn't easily done. No space ship required, no teleportation to multi-billion-dollar space stations in orbit.

No, all Carol had to do was fly up. Up until she felt the air peel away, the pull of gravity so often ignored reduced to nothing. Here she can think.

So that's what she does. High above the atmosphere, the blue-green globe of the Earth beneath her feet, Captain Marvel hovers and surveys the planet all at once. Looking down at several continents and two oceans all at once. It's enough to make someone feel small and insignificant.

If they weren't here, flying above the Earth under their own power, that is.

Supergirl has posed:
It was kinda Kara's super secret hangout spot.

Hanging out at the space where the dark side of the earth matched the light side, and she could actually see the sun start to track along the landscape, her cape fluttering in the... not-wind of space. Up here, she could just... feel, and be. The cold of space, the heat of the sun, unfettered by light and tempurature - that pressure, or lack thereof, pulling at her skin. She sighs a bit.

But who was that? Someone was... hunkering in on her mojo? Was that...?

Kara had joined Alpha Flight, once upon a time. So of course she knew who Captain Marvel was. But did they really meet yet? ... not really. And you know, maybe she was up here too to get away from things.

And so, well. She kinda slides over to the zone of the world that Marvel was watching over. It was... a lot longer than it looked. Lifting her hand in a friendly wave (she was wearing her super suit so whatever), she calls. "Hey, um. It's pretty, isn't it?" she asks.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"It really is," Carol says with a sigh, looking down at the Earth in silence for a moment before glancing back up to Supergirl, "You know, when I first saw it I had about two-hundred and fifty million dollars' worth of space suit between me and everything else. I have to say, viewing it like this? Nothing else compares."

She lets the silence of space rein for a moment, eyes set on the turning Earth far below them. The home of all their joys and sorrows, all of life's little pleasures and all its problems.

"You're Supergirl," she says, turning slightly and extending a hand, "I mean, I know that. Obviously. The 'S' makes it kind of a no-brainer. I'm Carol." No secret identities for her, and introducing oneself as 'Captain Marvel' always comes across as incredible pompous.

Supergirl has posed:
"Carol, like... you're telling me your name name?!" says Supergirl, pointing at the S on her chest with her thumb. "I have a secret identity, but um. I can tell you," says Kara at that, kinda... tucking her arms behind her back as she floats there, turning her eyes towards that slowly spinning globe.

"I mean. We're both in Alpha Flight, you know, so... Captain Marvel," she says, kinda gushing with that name a bit, before she breaks into a fit of giggles.

"I didn't know you were an astronaut, before this though - is that how you got your powers?" asks Kara with honest to gosh interest in her tone.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"I used to do the secret identity thing," Carol admits, holding her hands out and shrugging, "I stopped when I became Captain Marvel. It just didn't seem as important anymore. I figured I couldn't stand for the sort of things I wanted to stand for if I was keeping a secret. Not that there's anything wrong that, of course. But when you're a recovering alcoholic, you kind of try to avoid keeping things from others."

Her eyes go wide suddenly, and she shakes her head, burying her face in one red gloved palm, "Oh my god, I can't believe I'm just spilling my guts to you here. Something about the honesty-inducing effects of space travel, huh?"

She rolls her head on her shoulders, relaxing a little bit: "I was an astronaut, yeah. I suppose it's kind of how I got my powers? Not directly related. But I wouldn't have met him otherwise, and he was the reason so ... yes and no."

A pause. The silence of space surrounding them.

"I suppose you didn't come up here to be riddled at by me, didja?"

Supergirl has posed:
"It must be like... you know. The fact that we're hovering in space. It doesn't feel real. Like a dream. And it's usually so /lonely/ up here..." Kara begins. "Having someone else up here must not feel like... super real, you know?" says Supergirl, casting a wry little grin to Carol. "I still do the secret identity thing. I want to have a normal life where people aren't like... Supergirl! Help!" she says, miming a point and a ready stance.

"...but at the same time, I want people to feel they have help, I just... not all the time," she says, tucking her hands behind her back.

Up here was so quiet. Super hearing made it a little louder, but the world beneath was hardly a buzz.

"I'm Kara. Kara Danvers, I guess," she says. "Or Kara Zor-El if you want to get all weird and Kryptonian on me," she says with a smile, bringing up a hand to tuck a lock of her blonde hair behind her ear. "Just... don't tell anyone, pleasiecakes."

"But as for getting riddled by you... maybe? I usually come up here for peace and quiet, but... you know, sharing peace and quiet with someone is just as good," she smiles.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"Danvers, huh?" Carol says with a grin, lifting a hand and splaying it across the Star of Hala at her chest, "Carol Danvers. Think we're related? The 'Zor-El' part makes me think probably not."

She's still smiling as she shakes her head, "Your secrets safe with me. I know how important it is to have the two separate lives. I guess I kind of gave up my normal one. I do miss it sometimes. I used to actually, you know, have a job that wasn't ... " she gestures around them vaguely, "This. Ever read Woman magazine? I used to be the editor for it."

There's a strange something that makes her want to share these little details with Kara. Alpha Flight's roster is so long, and her attention so divided amongst other responsibilities that she doesn't often get to just talk. It's a pleasant change of pace.

"So, Kara Danvers," she continues, "What do you do when you're not Supergirl?"

Supergirl has posed:
"Danvers," says Kara. "That's actually the name of the human family I decided to hang out with, but... wait. Kara... Carol... Danvers... ahem," she says, kinda narrowing her eyes in play. "Did you steal my name?" she asks, tilting her head a bit to the side, her hair floating around herself as if underwater.

"I don't know. I probably read it once or twice. Woman magazine?" she says. "Nowadays, there aren't many magazines anymore," she says.

"Unless it was a blog or something," she remarks.

"I'm a student, I guess. So I fart around in classes and hang out with my sister, and my friends when I can. Oh, I joined the Titans too!" she chirrups. "So I harrass those guys every so often as well!" she enthuses.

"Which is kinda the same. Hang out, play video games, see how they do things. Get pizza."

"Oh, and I've been helping Batgirl solve crimes, every once in a while. Although I"m not super good at it," she admits.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"Hey, I've probably had it longer," Carol says with a mock frown, "It's the name I was born with, after all. Maybe you stole it from me."

Her own hair, cropped short as it is, doesn't get to do much in the way of defying gravity. Her body is aglow with energy, nothing blinding but one so attuned to the feel of sunlight as Kara will note a similar warmth and shine emanating from somewhere within her.

"That's a hell of a resume," she says, sticking out her lower lip and nodding her head appreciatively.

She extends a hand, pointing vaguely to the west coast of the North American continent below, "I mostly just divide my time between Starling," her finger trails to point now at the east coast, "And New York. Never a dull moment."

Supergirl has posed:
"Well, yeah. You probably did," admits Kara at that, waggling her forefinger just so. "...I had Kara longer though," she says. "But the Danvers name is kinda popular," she says. "I /bet/ you're related to my dad somewhere in his family tree, though," she says. "So maybe we're like... distant cousins. Except I'm adopted, so..."

"Not... really," she says.

And yes, Kara was attuned to sunlight. Yellow sunlight in particular, so that shiney glow of Carol's star... helps.

"Well, I'm kinda finding my feet, really," she says. "I only recently decided to start being a superhero like Clark is, and..." she makes a wide gesture. "I think it's better than sitting at home, when I can lift trucks and stuff," she says.

"Where do you like more? Starling or New York?" she asks.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"We can be distant cousins," she says with a firm nod, as though sealing the deal, "Cousins it is. Nice to meet you, Cuz." She beams brightly, she isn't on great terms with most of her family so the idea of having a cousin of sorts is a welcome one. Who needs to muddy that up with genealogical research?

Carol ponders the second question for a moment, lifting one gloved hand to her chin to stroke it thoughtfully.

"Gotta say New York," she admits after a moment, shrugging her shoulders, "Born and raised in Boston. East Coast Beast Coast. All that stuff. Besides, most of my friends live there now."

"I won't ask who Clark is," she adds, leaning sideways and gently nudging Supergirl with her elbow, "Secret identity and all that."

She sighs after a moment, looking back down at the gently spinning globe beneath them, "I've gotta head back before long, though." A pause, a devilish little grin spreading on her face, "Feel like a race to New York?"

Supergirl has posed:
"Don't call me that!" Supergirl says. A laugh comes from her. "But alright, cuz," she says, crinkling her nose up at the strangeness. That's what she had a lot of. Cousins.

Also, don't tell Kara secrets. She was bad bad /BAD/ at keeping them.

"Oh, okay," she says. "I think I was going to go to New York anyways, umm..." she says, turning red as she realizes she almost gave Superman's game up!! Oh well. Carol was probably safe to tell. Probably.

"I gotta head back too. I got /things/ to handle, you know."

"Super things," she says.

A smile across her face though, and she tilts back earthwards. "Alright then... ready... steady.... GO!" And they were off!
