Winifred Burkle has posed:
There's chaos in the park today. The massive robots known as Sentinels are hunting a group of Mutants here in the park. Unfortunately, these aren't the 'Gifted' mutants you find among the X-men. These are just kids who had the misfortune to be born with green skin, or tentacles for ears, or hair all over their body, or 4 arms instead of 2. They're young mutants too...the oldest of the group is 15, maybe, and the rest are straight up children.

Also present is noted Physicist Winifred Burkle, who doesn't really see Mutants. She had to spend a long time in Pylea, and she learned that looking different has nothing to do with feeling different on the inside. So, when she tries to protect the youngest kid, who is no more than 8, the Sentinel...fires anyway.

Programmed to not hit humans, the robot tries to shoot the kid anyway. It does have a good targeting system, but failed to take into account the size of its own blaster. The energy blast hits Fred too...and she screams in pain, as it's very clear she's going to need immediate medical attention before she bleeds out. The kid is in even worse shape. Only someone with ridiculous speed can save him now.

Sentinels are not programmed for compassion, so they continue trying to shoot the other 3 mutants, who are screaming for help as they run away.

Superman has posed:
Far in the distance, Superman can hear the noise. The screams of children, the sounds of plasma fire...or was it blaster fire...? could also be heard. Ignoring it at first, the fight that was going on within the very soul of the Man of Steel was visible only to the birds in the sky. The battle that was going on within him was clearly seen on his face.

It was only a battle that took a nano second, however, as the true spirit of Superman won out! Banking at the fastest speeds he could within an atmosphere, Superman pushes outwards, and like a shot from a canon, was heading towards the Park. He would be there in seconds.

From a distance, Superman uses his telescopic vision to see what was happening, and heads there like a shot. Then, it was like he was just there, standing in front of the mutants and Fred, absorbing their fire with a slight grimace at the energy hitting him, and staring at the Sentinels, his eyes glowing red. "Stand down! You have hit innocent bystanders! If you do not stand down, I will destroy you!" His voice brokered no argument.

Winifred Burkle has posed:
The Sentinel, in its usual robotic voice, says, "Our business is not with you, Kryptonian. We eliminate all mutants." And they continue trying to blast them. They do appear to realize that Superman is effectively unblastable, so they actually lay down a fire pattern against the mutants. They fire at different angles, hoping Superman won't be able to block all 3 of them at once.

The blasts are accurate, and the kids won't be able to get out of the way in time with their backs to the blasters. They're not looking. So blasty doom heads towards those 3 kids...

Fred isn't feeling good, but she doesn't ask for help for herself...instead, she just says, "Please...save the children. They don't deserve this..." Never mind she's bleeding out herself...

Superman has posed:
With a final, "Have it your way." Superman unleashes his full might on these Sentinels. It was over in a matter of seconds, as the full might of the Man of Steel was brought to the fore for everyone to see. It was a lesson in power, one that Superman was not scared to share with everyone here today.

This was almost shocking. Using his super speed, he anticipates the Sentinels attack pattern at first. Knowing they will adapt, he demolishes the first of the Sentinels with his heat vision, severing its head from its shoulders and then splitting it in half. This took 1.2 seconds.

While attacking the first Sentinel, Superman was moving towards the second at super speed, launching himself in order to launch that Sentinel into the third with all of his strength, hoping that would buy him time to destroy the third in a few more seconds, giving the kids a respite.

What was so scary was he was eliminating the threat without concern for the fall out or impact to the area around them. There was a look of anger, of rage on his face...was SUperman losing control? As it was, at this time, he was ignoring the injuries that Fred had sustained, but she could tell he had heard her. He had paused, just a moment, to look at her, breaking his anger for a split second. That split second almost cost him, however.

Winifred Burkle has posed:
The Sentinels are no match for the Man of Steel. Robots just can't compete with that kind of power. The heat vision that destroys the first sentinel does pierce the robot and cut a swath into the park itself, a line of suddenly created ditch ripping up the grass. When Sentinel 2 hits Sentinel 3, both of them fall over...unfortunately, these damn robots are so big that they're going to fall on the tentacle eared kid sentinel 3 was going after, as Superman threw it too hard and the force of the impact is actually what's carrying both robots at this point.

Down on the ground, she put two fingers with her good arm on the neck of the kid she was cradling even injured, and said, "Superman, he's not breathing!"

Superman has posed:
Spotting the Sentinel falling, Superman wasn't fast enough to stop it. However, he finishes off the last two Sentinels in seconds, the first with his freezing breath, and a quck punch, shattering it into a million pieces and the last one Superman was pounding the Sentinel into submission with the left leg of the first Sentinel he had demolished, almost with ease.

However, what was the most shocking to everyone watching this display was the look of anger and hate that was displayed on his face as he continued to pound the Sentinels into spare parts and rubble. Angry at these machines and the child that had been injured because of his battle within. Hate...hate at what he had become.

Something was wrong....as Superman hovers above the remnants of the demolished Sentinels he hears a feminine voice say something...what was it...the sounds tried to get to him through his battle within..."Superman, he's not breathing!"

The Man of Steel stops. Blinks. There it was...he was back. The look of compassion, kindness, goodness was there again, banishing the anger and the hate. Hovering above the ground, Superman gets closer and lands beside Fred.

Winifred Burkle has posed:
Fred actually tried to start CPR herself, but she only has one hand to work with and can't do chest compressions properly, she's breathing unevenly, and the amount of air she's able to generate in rescue breathing isn't quite going to cut it. Still, it's possible she might've done just enough for Superman to save him, because sometimes, it isn't succeeding...but just trying can be enough for even a human woman to save someone in need.

"You have to help him...I tried...I don't think I did enough...I'm sorry..." And Fred...looks like she's about to pass out herself, she was mostly fighting to stay conscious for this poor kid's sake. She has a concussion as well as an arm lacerated in far too many places, and she's lost a lot of blood already. And she was still fighting to keep this kid alive.

Superman has posed:
Looking up for a second, Superman's eyes get a distant look. "The Paramedics, Police, Fire and Ambulence are on their way Miss." Superman smiles at her with a comforting look, and moves closer. "You have done enough Miss. Try and relax." Superman looks at her, and frowns. "You have a concussion and significant internal bleeding. You need to stop moving, while I see what I can do for this young man. Then we can take care of you."

Kneeling beside her, Superman puts a comforting hand on her shoulder, moving her to the side, gently again, and concentrates. Igoring the fact that the kid was a mutant, Superman taps his chest as gently as possible, and leans over, breathing into him with a fraction of his breath. Using his X Ray Vision once more, he presses on just the right spot, and with another breath, the young mutant was oncee more coughing and breathing.

Winifred Burkle has posed:
That permission to pass out was enough...and her body more or less just shut down, as she falls unconscious. Maybe the last thing she heard is the kid cough, though, and she passes out with what seems to be a smile. Maybe she did do enough after all. Her skin is pretty pale from the blood loss, and all the other medical problems going on inside and outside.

Superman has posed:
Superman waves the two paramedics over towards the young boy. At first they recoil, but with one look, Superman silences them. "This young man..." he emphasizes that - man "...is in critical condition gentlemen. I expect him to live and recover. I will be checking on him." His eyes told them all they needed to know. If Superman says to take care of it, they better.

Gently lifting the boy onto the whelled stretcher, Superman whispers something secret in the young mutants ear. Something meant only for him. Hopefully, he would remember it. Someday when he needed someone...Superman would be there.

Smiling, Superman then turns to Fred, and gently, with great care, picks her up. With a soft and quick administer of his heat vision, he seals the cuts and abrasions on her body, stopping the external bleeding. Hovering above the ground, he wraps her in his arms, and within moments, they were at the nearest hospital.

Taking her directly to critical care himself, he finds the Doctor, and says, "Doctor. Please take care of my friend here. She nearly sacrificed everything in a heroic act to save several children." Gently placing her on the nearest medical cart, Superman watches as she gets taken away by the Doctors and staff.
