Synopsis: Technological Tools Triumph!
Cast of Characters: Samuel Morgan, Smart Alek

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Over the weekend, the garage has been a hive of activity yet again. Not only staff parking their vehicles, older students going out in twos and threes, but also those few students working on restoring old bikes as a project. One booth has been suspiciously silent for the last few days, a state of affairs so unusual as to be nearly unprecedented... if a precedent can be established in a week. Certainly the Honda Shadow has been standing somewhat forlorn on Wednesday and Thursday, with Bean only doing a few things on Friday.

On Saturday the music started again, and the science lab in the school was turned practically into an industrial electrolysis plant. Bolt after bolt, plate after plate went into the booth rusted, was ground and sanded until clear, and taken away, only to come back with a nickel coating a few hours later.

Today, early evening on Sunday, the music continues. It has, in fact, been playing all day. Inside the booth holding his bike, Bean is power buffing a newly painted gas tank...

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek's own project bike has been disassembled completely, his work is slow but steady as throughout the week, he puts it back together, every piece the way it was put together by the factory so long ago. Any pieces that don't match the specs of the manufacturer and blueprints have reworked or replaced with pieces from the pile of spare parts.

In his minds eye, he can see the rebuilt bike, it's just fulfilling that vision. Even with all of this vibrations from the music, he keeps focused on the job at hand.

As Samuel works, Alek drags his own partial bike to the arc welder.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
There is pleasure to be had in a job well done. When Bean can see his reflection in the glossy black paint, he finally stops buffing the tank and admires it from every possible angle. It's while he's glancing at it from just about table level, that he spots Alek dragging his bike across the floor.

    "Need a hand?"

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek is definitely in a slight built department, he reluctantly glances to Samuel, "Yeah, a little hand would be nice." He looks over to Bean's bike, "It reflects well..I'd love to take a look at it after your done."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"It shouldn't be too much longer, once I have the necessary parts." Bean agrees, trotting over to Alek and his bike. They're surprisingly heavy beasts to move around, even when stripped down. Putting a hand on the handlebar and another on the back of the saddle frame, he starts to help push the thing. "The flywheel and clutch pressure plate have cracked. Everything else I can repair, but I can't just mill those out of a random chunk of steel. What do you have planned with this bike?"

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek says, "Well, the plasma generated from the arc can be used to smooth out and seal the cracks in the various parts. I'm trying to restore the parts to what they were... I like to restore the bonds in the materials." he nods, he looks back at Samuel's bike, "I can help rework the materials.. it just takes alot of precision." He pulls two needle thickness pieces of metal.. "going to attach these to the arc welder so I can do millimeter level work."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
It sometimes takes a moment to process exactly what Alek says, but it clicks soon enough. Bean nods, understanding. "I take it you've already planned the welds? Had to weld up the oil tank and oil pan on mine, luckily the frame is still solid."

Millimeter arc welding? Now that's something that gets Sam to lift an eyebrow. "Can you be that precise? And no offense, but I would prefer to replace the gear interfaces with new parts."

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek sighs, "I can feel the gaps in the material.. but my hands might not be precise enough... I'm going to try my best though. I've planned out all my welds already, just need to make them reality." He nods, as they get the bike into position, he clamps the small metal spikes onto the welder clamp and he grabs a welder mask.. he ponders something and hands it to Samuel, "I only found one welding mask, I don't actually need my eyes for this... if you want to watch, it's going to be brighter then the sun."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Then why use your hands at all?" It's a seemingly rhetorical question, but Bean has a smile on his face. It's a rare thing to see, especially one that seems to actually touch his eyes, making them shine just that bit brighter. Taking the mask from Alek, he goes on with his proposal. "We can build an articulated cradle for the welder and drive it through all three axis with powered servo motors. You and I, we could weld to within the tolerance of the servos without ever touching the controls."

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek hmms, "I was... thinking that using something that wasn't human... but, I didn't think..." he looks over Samuel and he seems to look into the air, "Yeah. that sounds like a great idea." He pauses a moment, "so where should we begin?" He has just a little of joy in his voice but generally Alek sounds like he's reading the side of a paint can most of the time.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
This, of course, requires some thought. Having now given himself a challenge, Bean thinks, leaning against a pillar while notes appear on his phone's notepad. They're easy enough to read for people with certain abilities who might be interested in learning about them, and he casts his eyes around for spare bits and bobs. Hmmm.

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek and Samuel begin the creation of their robotic assistant by raiding the engineering lab for a few servos and joints. They also both search the web for a few circuit board designs which after they assemble the board, Alek downloads a basic control system from the web into the Eprom. His eyes blinking as he programs the circuit with a touch. He slumps back a bit as he marvels a bit at the little side project... "If we keep this up, the mansion is gonna wonder if it was robbed.. were definitely borrowing alot of stuff." he smirks.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Repurposing superfluous equipment to meet a greater need." is Bean's take on the whole 'borrowing' thing. Besides, they had just made the arc welder many times more useful and efficient. Surely there could be no objection to that? Cautiously, he yaws the armature first one way, then the other, before traversing the cradle arm from side to side, testing the limits of its resolution. "This might serve your needs. Do you want to control it, or would you prefer me to do it, and direct me to the spots that need the most urgent treatment?"

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek ponders, "You might be more precise then me.. since well.. perhaps your more physically talented." He nods, "I can let you see it's innerworking.. and direct you." he looks to his feet, "I never mentioned this but.. as I can see inside computers and work with them.. if I can touch someone, I can for a time communicate at the same level.. kinda like internet for thought." He offer a hand, "It's not dangerous.. it'll just let us communicate better."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Bean draws back from the hand, as if it's a loaded weapon pointed at him. Well... perhaps not, since there's no actual violent reaction, but clearly the mutant isn't pleased by the idea of sharing his mind with someone. He stands there, gripping the mask, and decides that he had probably better explain himself. "I... wouldn't want you to get hurt browsing my private servers."

Smart Alek has posed:
Alek says, "I understand, if you can't have privacy up in your head, where can you have it right?" he nods, "I can make this work then for us..." he takes out a cellphone and places it so that Bean/Samuel can see it, "I'll send imagery to this.. you can move the arm to weld the gaps." He lays a hand on the bike and another he touches the cellphone.

The screen flickers and it suddenly shows a rainbow shrouded imagery of the room itself, light seems to take physical form as it ricochets around the room. Alek concentrates a moment, his eyes go bright blue and the imagery switches to what the arc welder would see if it's welding torch could see microscopically. The dust particles go past the 'camera'. "There is sixteen points of welding we're going to do. first one is easy.. shouldn't take us much time at all.. the last one is.. a bit trickier, it's a millimeter thick crack in the piston, we could replace it but... what would be the fun in that right?""

Samuel Morgan has posed:
It is, admittedly, a roundabout way of doing this, but there is absolutely no chance that Bean is going to allow Alek even a glimpse of his thoughts, his memories... He finally had people he could start calling friends, and knowing what he'd done would only drive them away. It was hard enough to know that Shannon had finally realized just what Sam was capable of, he couldn't burden another friend with that knowledge. And so, direct downloading the data from the phone, that is the imagery of Alek as filtered through his abilities from the manifestation of his perception, Bean begins to move the armature. Slowly at first, afraid of overshooting the mark, bringing the welding head close, triple checking the coordinates... weld. It is just as well that he had his eyes closed while doing this, because after all this preparation he had plain forgotten about the welding mask.

He grabs it quickly and slips it over his head, flipping the mask down. See with the part of him that doesn't need eyes, move armature... weld...
